2010 Chevy Equinox

    I also purchased a 2010 Equinox LTZ in Colorado Springs in Oct 2009. I fell in love with the way it handled and the comfort and design. After having it a few months we started having issues. The first issue was with the DVD Player. It would shut off during the movie and no one had touched the controls to stop it. Had this check 3 times so far and hope it is working properly now. We are going on a trip so we will check it out then. Then we had to take it back for several recalls. A few months later the car would not start. Got it back and next thing I know the car will not start. Turn the key and nothing wait try again after several tries the car starts. Took this to the new issue to dealer three times each time saying they could not find it. Finally on the 3rd try they found that a wire end was not making proper contact and loose. They replaced the wire end and tightened it, so far no problems. Still when I get in the car I wonder if it will start again. Next, the driver’s back passenger window would not go up. Took it in and they replaced the motor. Then I hear a clunking sound around the driver’s side. Had this looked at several times finally they found out that the strut went bad. So they replaced it by taking out a strut from a new car on the lot, as it would take to long to rebuild one I was told. Get it back and then the passengers back window’s motor goes out. Had to wait a week for part to come in and in the mean time problems with the backup camera appear. I was backing out of driveway and the camera would not go on. Stop went forward and then went back in reverse nothing. Park the car, shut off engine and then restarted car and backed up again, Nothing! Went to work, called dealership and they would look at it when I took the car in for the back window. A few days later I went to airport to pick up a guest and after reversing and putting in drive the camera would not turn off. The camera stayed on for several minutes before it shut off in the drive mode. The dealer reprogrammed the camera and so far it is working OK. The first time I called Chevrolet HQ I was assigned a great person to deal with my case. They called me back if I left messages and took the time to take care of my concerns. This was when after the car did not want to start. At this point I was asking Chevy HQ for an exchange of vehicles as I no longer had confidence on the car. They declined and offered a couple of oil changes to me, which I declined also. Then, when we started having additional issues, I called Headquarter and was assigned an individual named Regan. The customer service I have received so far from this gentleman is atrocious. I have left numerous messages for him, with instructions to call me on my cell phone and each time he has called my home and left a message, when I am at work. Each time I have called him back and all I get is his voice message, but still have not been able to reach him. I called the customer service desk and explain my problem. Each time they assure me they will give him the message and have him call me back on the cell phone. This has yet to happen. The last time I called Chevrolet(June 16th, 2010) I asked for a supervisor and explained why I needed one. I was on hold off and on for over 45 minutes with no resolution and still did not get supervisor. I asked my service representative and other Chevrolet employees at the dealership, if they have had or seen any other Equinox’s with this many problems. They all stated that they have not seen or heard of any other vehicles and did not know what else to say. One employee made a comment that they truly believed that there is always that one car off of the line that something goes wrong with it and that I had gotten that car. Needless to say, I have come to know the people at service department and other workers rather well. Since, I am always there for one issue or another. Even the sales person who sold me the car stated he felt bad. We have two other Chevy vehicles and have had no problems with them. All I am asking is that Chevrolet please exchange this vehicle for another Equinox. We have less than 10,000 miles on this car and the problems started when we had less than 5,000. I have talked to the dealer also about exchanging this vehicle for another one with no encouragement given that it will be done. I have posed the question to the Service Manager “How would you feel about this situation if it was your car and the amount of money it cost?” He stated the same that you are feeling now. Everyone knows that what is going on with this car is wrong but no one is willing to fix the problem. I really am getting disappointed in this product and the customer service I am receiving for Chevrolet. It starting to appear that there no one who cares.

    I let mine expire last November. GM just arranged a 2 week trial which ended last week and now they are offering $20 for 5 months plus tax an licensing fees. I may take them up on it.
  • Been a Chevy buyer for 30 years.Bought 7 new chevys over the years.All had problems except the 2 Cav's.I dont know why.But I thought I would look at the Equinox.I own a 01 Impala now. Nothing but money problems.Im not a big driver on miles.Maybe 8000 a year.
    The question is.The people on this forum have any thoughts on this SUV?Good or bad.I read a lot of this forum already and just thought if someone read this they might over something.I never owned a SUV so Im not sure what to expect.
    At this point Im looking at a 6 as I just cant see a 4 on a SUV. Thanks to all who respond.

    Wow! That's disappointing. I'm considering buying one of these things (an LT1 most likely) sometime in the next 6-10 months, but maybe I should look more closely at the competition now. A bad DVD player is not surprising, though. My sister bought a fully-loaded brand new Odyssey and has all kinds of problems with her DVD player. She said she'd never buy a vehicle with a DVD player ever again. You know they get you for something like $1500 on that DVD player! I figure I don't even own a $1500 TV in my house ... I'm certainly not going to buy one for my car! The door motors failing is highly unusual. Really wonder if it was something simpler and they just told you they replaced the motors. Those things normally last forever. I just replaced my first motor in my '97 Taurus at the end of last year (~180k miles). And to have it happen on BOTH the REAR door motors is even MORE unusual. My failure occurred in the driver's door - the window that gets used (and banged around) the most, typically.

    But other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how is the rest of the vehicle???

    Greetings,
    I have a 2010 Equinox 4 cyl, 2 WD and I'm completely satisfied with the vehicle. Last weekend I pulled a trailer that weighed right at 1500 pounds 280 miles, and the vehicle did great. Gas mileage was 24.6 MPG with the trailer. I'm approaching the one year anniversary with this car and have not had the first problem. I would recommend one based on my experience.

    First off they are not SUV's. They are crossovers. There is a real big difference. A SUV is built on a frame and can ride more like a truck, whereas a crossover is built on a car platform which don't have a true frame and rides like a car. My wife was interested in either a Equinox or a Fusion Hybrid. We drove both AWD Equinox's with both the 4 and the 6. Around town the 4 was peppy but I just couldn't see it as a highway car because I have a HHR with the same engine. Only difference is mine is a 4 sp. auto and the E is 6 sp. auto. My biggest complaint was the constance down shifting in both the 4 and 6 do to the 6 sp which has to many overdrive gears. The least little touch of the gas and you wait for it to downshift. Maybe now that they have been out for a while they have corrected that problem. A number of mags also complained about it for that reason. I don't see anyone here complaining about it though so maybe it is fixed. At that time neither wife nor I liked it and went with the Hybrid. If I didn't have the HHR we would most likely bought the AWD V6 Equinox over the Fusion. But even now there are times when I could have used the extra room of the Equinox over the HHR.

    I have a 2010 Equinox with the interface package. I wanted to listen to music on a flash drive. When I put it in the usb, it states that it recognizes no data. My son has a 2008 Cavalier with the same package. The flash drive will play in HIS car. I tried another type of flash drive with no good results. Is there something else I need to do?
  • This has been an issue since I bought my new Equinox 3 months ago. The car typically shifts very hard between 3rd and 4th gears. So hard at times that it feels like something hit my car or even fell out of it. It has been in the shop 2 different times to no avail. The dealership can;t diagnose it cause the check engine light does not come on and they claim they can't get the car to repeat it. My car started running very rough a week or so back (just as I was leaving for vacation). The engine light came on and the problem was a cam sensor. It was replaced and the running rough problem is solved....but still having the shifting issues. I love my Equinox except for this one major issue. It is frustrating that the dealership is unable to figure out what the problem is, almost as if they don't believe me.

    Tell them to check to make sure you have all the latest calibrations (computer software, basically) for the ECM and TCM systems. It should take them ten minutes to do this, then if any need to be updated another fifteen minutes. No guarantees, but this might solve your issue.

    Just clicked 10k. We were loaded up going on vacation, 100 degree heat, going through the Berkshire mountain section of the Mass Pike in a 4 cylinder AWD LTZ.
    Aside from a few downshits at 72 mph going up hills, this unit really is a nice ride. Darn close to perfect. My wife likes it much better than her 2005 Caddy SRX she traded in.

    We averaged 26 miles per gallon, 650 miles round trip with some stop and go mixed in.

    As for the bad news; vacation is over.
  • If you check on ebay, there are several listings for a wiring setup for the NOX. I purchased mine along with the hitch. Took maybe 10 minutes to install.

    I have a 2010 2-LT Equinox that I want to add some wiring to. I will be towing the car behind a motor home and need to run some wiring into the car for the Brake-Buddy. The wires will consist of a break-away cable connection and a 12V power connection for the Brake Buddy. Both of these wires will fit through one 1/2" hole.

    I have not been able to find a suitable place in the firewall for using an existing opening or making a new opening.
