    Unfortunately I am again dissapointed. The last fix did make the leak a little better but it did not fix it. I called the dealership Monday to let them know there was a little water still coming in on the headliner so they asked me to bring it in right then because it was still raining. As I was driving to the shop I heard water rolling around above my head and it started dripping out of the 3rd row lights again. This time they got me a rental and called today to tell me that my car is being sent an hour away to a "water specialist" because they still cant figure out where the water is coming in.

  • Good Luck! I see you were asked to contact the media customer service by email. I contacted them and they were of no help, btw. Still worth putting a claim in, but they basically told me they were of no authority and that the district manager (or some similar title) was the only one that could actually help (and of course, he was of no help).

    I was just wondering if you were able to get your Acadia in for that TSB yet? I finally got mine back from the water specialist on Thursday afternoon. For some reason the paperwork got messed up between them and the dealership so I dont know everything they did exactly but the dealership said the main problem this time was that the drainage hoses from the sunroof were kinked up and they had to seal glass (the dealership said they think it was a part of the windsheild)I plan to go pick up the actual paperwork tomorrow morning. Anyhow, between friday night and saturday morning we had over 8 inches of rain and off and on rain again today and so far so good! I'm still hesitant to let my guard down after dealing with this for such a long time but it was nice to drive in the rain without needing my rain gear. Now to figure out how to get my carpets cleaned or replaced because that nasty smell is still there :( I wish you lots of luck and hope your car is fixed quickly!

    last night was the first rain since i got my truck back on friday and shockingly enough the leak is still there, nice to have a pool in a 40k truck. I called my dealership over 5 hrs ago and still have not heard back from them.

    I know exactly how you feel. I took my 2008 Acadia in many times just for them to tell me there is no leak. Now I live in Italy and every time it rains I have a downpour in my truck. I can't find anyone here that is willing to work on a GMC. I will be moving back to the states next year and will be at the dealer as soon as my truck is shipped and arrives. So frustrating....I also paid 40k! I don't understand why GMC doesn't recall these vehicles. Very disappointed to say the least and will never buy another one!
  • We're throwing in the towel.

    It leaks non-stop. We've had it in for service 4x and no luck. I was relentless in talking to customer service and finally, after multiple phone calls, I was told that yes there is an issue with the drain pipes being easily blocked in 07 Acadias. That this is a significant problem in areas of the country with lots of trees and rainfall, but that they have no solution for me other than to suggest I use covered parking. Considering I do not have a garage at home or at work, this is impossible. The manager had the gall to suggest that the car is not the problem because if I lived in an arid state I would have no trouble. I take this to be the reason why they haven't recalled them. The majority of owners live in dryer areas, with fewer trees, or have access to covered parking.

    Honestly, just hearing them admit that their car was poorly manufactured was enough for me. I asked if they could send me a car cover, free of charge, and they said no. They did offer to give me $1,500 towards the price of a NEW GMC. Considering a brand new Acadia costs like $40,000, I politely declined.

    The manager, Max, also kept telling me that since I bought it used there wasn't nothing he could do. I said, so what would you do differently if I bought it new? ... Nothing. It would be comical if we weren't talking about a $30,000 used vehicle.

    Ah well. We're selling it back to the dealer and buying a Hyundai. If I hadn't been treated so poorly by GMC I would have considered buying a newer model, but they have lost a customer for life.

  • i understand that a leaking roof is not an excuse, but to alleviate the immediate issue, why not simply use some duct tape and cover the moonroof seams- i know you won't be able to open roof- but what are the priorities!
  • I finally picked up the paperwork for the last repair but it only has the credited bill to the water specialist, no details of the work done. I did ask the technician at the dealership what exactly was done and he told me they did several things but the main stuff was that they re-routed all of the rear hoses completely so that they were angled in a proper way to drain. They also had to re-seal a corner on each of the sunroof seals, front and back. It has been extremely rainy here for the past 2 weeks and so far I havent found any water inside the vehichle. I do not have covered parking either so my car has been in all of this weather.
    I really hope that you have better luck with your next vehicle! When I was considering trading my car in I was actually looking at the Hyundai Veracruz and the Mazda CX-9. As much as I love the Acadia and the other GM equivalents I think they have a lot of work to do to gain trust back from all of us that have had these issues with our vehicles. I am still not sure if I will be keeping mine as my daughter has severe asthma and I dont feel that the car is safe for her with the huge probability that it is ridden with mold.
  • the large (fixed) sunroof on my '07 Acadia started leaking about 3 years ago. I didn't realize at first that this is what was letting water into my AC fan housing (which eventually caused the fan to corrode and I had to have it replaced; you could actually see the water line inside the housing where the fan sits!) . Finally, the drains got plugged up, and I began to hear water sloshing around in the overhead, which would get so bad that it would leak out around the windshield, and who knows where else; at this point, I checked this forum , and found out the amazing extent of this defect. After contacting GM customer service, they told me I would have to take it to a dealer for their 'evaluation' (at my cost!) - and even though I had proven with duct tape, that it was the sunroof, and even which one was leaking, 2 dealers I called said it could be well over a hundered dollars just to confirm that it was a leak from the sunroof! I then checked with Hiester (GM dealer in Holly springs, nc) - and they said they wouldn't charge for an estimate, so, I took it in there, and GM customer service authorized paying for the " repair". I . There it sat for 2 days, despite an appointent for the person they have come in to do these 'repairs'. When I picked up the car, I could see that they had put silicone around the glass. Not the way to fix it, I later learned. The next time it rained, the water got in again, and leaked into the interior, soaking my floor board . so obviously the drain was open again, but the sunroof is still leaking, and now is draining into the car, as it was before. I have been down to Heister, and called several times, but no response. Now I had to get back up on the car, and put on some more duct tape. I'm ready to buy a new car, and this experience with customer service and GM dealerships have me looking at buying a Ford.
  • mtlwiz1, if I were sure it was the moonroof I would contemplate doing that. Since I've seen it come in through the windshield too I'd rather not do potential paint damage to my car, thereby reducing the re-sale value.

    I traded it in for a Hyundai Sonata. We'll miss having an SUV, but we put all our money into this car and can no longer afford one.

    My recently purchased 2008 GMC Acadia SLT2 with dual moon roofs has developed a leak. I noticed the smell a month ago and thought it was the AC. So I bought some ac cleaner and the problem seemed to go away. We have had rain the last few days here in New Hampshire and the smell is starting to return. After running an errand today, I turned off the ignition and removed the key, the car kept running almost like it was dieseling and finally shut off after a few min. I noticed some other electronic issues, radio turning on by itself, dash warning lights, etc. I looked around the car and noticed the passenger floor under the mat was all wet. So I am assuming I have a sun roof drain problem.

    The sunroof drains were fixed under warranty before we bought the truck several years ago. I looked in the sun roof drain pan and the drivers side was dry, but the passenger side was wet and had a puddle. Of coarse this all showed up after the 90 day warranty from the dealer I purchased it from expired and the 10 year/100,00 mile GM warranty expired on 7/31/2012. Just my typical luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Car is starting & shutting off properly this morning and all warning lights are gone. Pull the passenger side kick panel & pulled the carpet back. The back of the carpet is soaking wet & there was water sitting on the floor pan. Cleaned up all the water I saw and I have my heater in the truck to dry out the carpet as much as I can. Planning on going to the dealer on Monday to discuss my water leak problem. After reading all this and other forums, and since all my warranties have expired, I am not very optimistic at all.
  • Dropping my acadia off at the dealer this morning. $90 to find the leak & then from there who knows.....

  • Well, just got off the phone with the dealer. The sun roof drains are working properly, & they are still looking. Said they might have to drop the headliner & if they do it will cost me more than the $90 fee to find the leak...lovely....

    i had the same issue i dont have a sun roof ..but i did have the situation with me taking the key out and the car still running ,,there was a leak in the front under the dash they said the windshield was not sealed properly and water in on the passanger side and wet the circuit board they replaced it and also it came in through drivers side so make them check the circuit board and see if it is getting wet

    "water tested vehicle, found no water entering vehicle. checked sunroof drains. Drain not blocked. Checked AC drain. Drain not blocked. Could not duplicate concern."

    Lovely, Have to make another appointment so they can dig further into the car & look for the leak. My problem started after I went through a large puddle. And it definitely got the ecbm wet as the car wouldn't shut off and I got all kinds of alarms. Once it dried up all those problem went away. So next visit they will look at the ECBM area......So $90 and a day without the truck and no answers yet.... :(
  • Going back in a week from Thursday to have the dash taken apart to see if it is getting in back there. I'm sure it got the BCM wet since the car wouldn't shut of and I got a ton of warning lights & alarms. They all disappeared after the car dried out a little bit. Another $90 to get it check, hopefully this time they will find something. I am 100% sure now that this started after going through a big puddle around 25mph.

    I had the same issue with the Acadia running and several electronic issues. I also got a "engine hot a/c off" message. Also a severe battery drain. Have your dealer check the Fuse Block. Mine was corroded and needed to be replaced (I had a leaking sun roof). Call GM and complain. Get an incident #. Make some noise. You might be able to get all your money back. I got all but $180 back.

    I had the same issues with the leaks, it took the dealer 6 visits to finally throw in the towel and send it to a water specialist. I am now a couple of months out from getting it back from the specialist and am still leak free as far as I know. They re-routed the drain hoses and had to seal both sunroofs in different places. They did not give me a detailed description of the work since it was paid for by the dealer but the service tech told me as much as he knew. I am thankful that I had such a great dealership to work with and after the 2nd visit was not charged more and was even provided with a rental on a few of the occasions. If you are not happy with the service you are getting I would recommend finding a new dealership to work with or going straight to someone who specializes in water damage and sunroof leaks since that is who they ultimately sent me to anyway. I wrote all of my updates on here in a post titled "so dissapointed" and it goes through my whole process with the leaks, I was hoping that it could help others out eventually as to what helped and didn't. I know how frustrated you are and hope they are able to resolve your leaks sooner rather than later. I had to have my BCM and Fuse Block replaced in the process and I can tell you that it is not an inexpensive repair. There are lots of TSB#'s online for the Acadia that relate to different leak issues as well. Oh, and that smell never goes away, even now, there are no leaks (that I see) anytime it is rainy or even humid my car smells like a wet dog wearing stinky running shoes. I would imagine the entire carpeting and interiors that have gotten wet will need to be replaced eventually to get the smell out.
  • Floor was wet again today when I dropped it off at the dealer this morning. Here's to hoping they find the leak this time. I e-mail Sara/GMC customer service a week ago and never heard back anything from them. I am sure they could give a Rats [non-permissible content removed] about me as I am not the original owner.....ughhh

  • It's really frustrating, as I love the Acadia, but I can't afford to be throwing $100 a week to the dealer to try and find the leak. I have owned 3 GMC s-15 Jimmy's & and a GMC s-15 pickup before this and never had any problems with them. I have loved all my GMC's, but that being said, if I can't get this resolved soon I will be looking to get rid of it and move onto another brand :(
  • Well they dropped the headliner and found the leak. the rear sunroof is leaking. $500 to repair...yay me...not! :banghead:

    Well don't know what I was expecting, but GM called this morning and offered me a $100 voucher towards any future work. Can't do anything for me as it is out of warranty & not a Certified used GM. Not happy at all, not that I was expecting much any anyways, but a little help with the bill would have been nice, since I already paid it they said there was nothing they could do. So I am out $590 and my truck smells like a cross between garbage & a wet sock. Thanks for nothing GM. :lemon:
  • We bought our 2008 Acadia at the end of Feb 2012. I live near Seattle, WA.... SO you all know where this is headed.

    Within 4 months of having the car we had water pouring into the passenger side front headliner area AND in the back near the rear seats. We found this just a day or so after it started having problems turning off. So I documented it with a video. We could take the key out of the ignition and the car wouldstay running for a couple minutes until finally dying. We took it to the dealer and they said that they fixed the water leak as it was a faulty door seal. THat was what cause the electronics to go haywire. Thankfully we bought it Certified Pre Owned so we have a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. Summer came and gone being one of the dryest ever.

    Now this week it started pouring!!! Yesterday I got in the car and there was about an inch of water on the driver side floor. Couldnt believe it. Checked the passenger side and it was not as bad but still very wet and water was coming down the same exact place near the above handle of the passenger side door. So we called the dealership again and set up an appointment for today. Well the wife had to get cookies to the school yesterday so she jumped in the car since I was at work and when she got there the car never started again. Last night we had to have it towed to the nearest dealership. (same one as before) and they were hesitant on even giving us a rental car. I was persistent as we have 4 kids and I am at work most of the day so the wife needs a vehicle, and NO our Mini Cooper won't cut it.

    So as of today we have 2,000 miles left until our warranty expires or about 4 months. I am already looking at trading it in but dont know what to do. It totally sucks that we will have basically wasted $8,000 to use this car for 8 months if we get rid of it because I doubt we will get more than what we owe on it currently.

    I will be reading every single post on this and sending it to our dealership for them to read. Yeah like they will. Hope you all get your issues fixed. Wish i would have read all this BEFORE we bought our :lemon:
  • This sounds like our old Acadia. We had the EXACT same issues with our 2008 that we had purchased back in the summer of 2011. We are from Portland area...I sure hope you weren't sold our old one. =( By our third time taking our car in we had had ENOUGH! I was headed to our local news station to have a consumer report story done. Finally, the dealership took the car back and we swapped it for a 2009 Chevy Tahoe. Best decision we've ever made. I have stayed on this forum since and read complaints almost weekly of other victims of GMC Acadia's. I hope your dealership will make it right with you as our dealership made it right with us.
