ehhh... that's about right. 2 automatics with 76k miles each his $32k. The lone 6-spd with 78k fetched $35k.

    Your friend's has lower miles.

BUT, I'm sure a Porsche dealer is looking to pay a few thousand less on a trade.

    Thanks for the quick answer!
My friend is not looking to trade -- he just bought the car from a dealer in Chicago. He paid 35 thousand dollars for it. It sounds like he got a great deal.

    Cheers -Mathias

Dang! I was hoping to get an insider deal..

I have to say, that's pretty cheap for a 7 yr old 911...

You know the story from the CCBA forum - hit me with the reality on a trade for (in Denver):

    2013 Hyundai Veloster
Blue, base model with auto trannie. No additional option packages.
5k miles. Condition as you'd expect - practically new.

Possible candidates (auction and what say you for good price offer):

    2010 VW Jetta SE w/auto
Blue exterior/Black leatherette. 30k miles. CPO at VW dealer.

2011 VW Golf base model w/auto
Gray exterior/black cloth. 28k miles. CPO at VW dealer.

    2005 Acura TSX non-nav w/auto
Light Blue exterior/Gray leather. 33k miles. At an Acura dealer, but obviously too old for CPO.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hyundai ~$15k
    Jetta ~$10.5k ... CPO? $14k?
Golf 2-door?? about the same as the Jetta.
TSX I can't help much with given the crazy low miles. Best ones with ~60k sell for $10.5 as well. sooo... I dunno... $12k? $13k? Retail for $15k?

I wouldn't pay 15K for a 2005 TSX. Heck, you might get a new leftover 2013 for 25K. They can barely give those things away now.

2013 Acura RDX (wife's), 2007 Volvo S40 (when daughter lets me see it), 2000 Acura TL (formerly son's, now mine again), and new Jetta SE (son's first new car on his own dime!)

Awesome - thanks for the reply. Pretty close to what I figured. $15k on the Hyundai would be a 10% loss - I can stomach that.

As much as my wife and I like hatchbacks, my stepdaughter actually likes the sedans more, so I think a jetta will be the answer. Plenty of them out there, so that's easy. We'll have her look at the tsx too, but I'm kinda with stickguy - unless they come way down on price, I feel better about the 3 year old VW than the 8 year old Acura, given the same cost.

    Thanks again.

Those are crazy low miles on the TSX, but you're also dealing with that crazy high Honda/Acura resale value. I think the first gen TSX also has a pretty dedicated following.

Well.. in my experience, Jettas are always driven by hot chicks..

Not sure you want to put that stigma on your daughter... ;-)

Well, shoot, if I tell her that, then the deal is probably all but done on a Jetta! : )

For whatever reason I've observed the same thing.

That's probably just the impression you got after seeing me drive around in my Jetta in the mid-2000's. :)

    Oh, that was you? ;)

Yeah, and it ended up just being too much awesomeness in such a small space, so I had to balance out the universe and get a minivan.

So the lesson here is...let your hot daughter drive a Jetta and she'll be knocked up in no time? Marketing genius!! Why do you think VW started selling minivans?
  • stickguystickguy Posts: 14,170
That is why my little blond princess drives a Volvo. Who wants a woman that drives a Volvo?

2013 Acura RDX (wife's), 2007 Volvo S40 (when daughter lets me see it), 2000 Acura TL (formerly son's, now mine again), and new Jetta SE (son's first new car on his own dime!)

  • I don't know if its a coincidence or not, but my now-wife was driving was a 2004 Jetta when we started dating. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

Whoa! Knocked up?!!? Definitely not going the jetta route! : )

    Okay Q,

One more, maybe final candidate (as discussed on the CCBA forum):

    2008 Audi A3 2.0T FWD automatic (s-tronic)
    Blue exterior/beige leather
    37k miles
Premium package, cold weather, pano sunroof.
Overall good condition, though it does have a small scrape on the front bumper.
    Clean, one owner carfax.

At an Acura dealer, so not CPO.

Deal on the table (that we walked away from) is the Veloster plus $1,000. Figuring the $15k value on the Hyundai, they're at $16k for the Audi - I guesstimated a trade value of $13k on the A3, and pushed for a straight swap, but dealing stalled at the $1,000. Uncharacteristic of us, we walked away to think about it, but are strongly considering it.

Thoughts on the A3 pricing? Thanks!

I'd go for this vehicle personally, but the kid has told you and you keep asking...her answer is always the same here. Methinks y'all want the vehicle and aren't listening here,,,make the kid happy and get her what SHE wants because trust me, in a few weeks or so y'all are going to find something else to purchase. Or better yet, purchase this for yourselves and get her what she wants and then cut an older one from the herd. It is time to move on this already!
