Cargo space in Honda CR-V versus Crosstour

How is the trunk space in Honda CRV measured? to the top of the back seat? to the top of the head rest? I own a 2003 CRV. I like the trunk space of the CRV but don't like the road noise. I love the Accord because it rides better, less noisy but the trunk space is small, so I'm thinking of the Crosstour. On paper, CT seems to have significantly smaller trunk space compared to CRV but I don't know if CRV has more because it's measured to the roof. Anyone have experience comparing CRV to CT?

the toal space is typically measured ot the roof. OS it's likely the useable space in the Crosstour is similar to the CR-V. The laod floor is probably slightly larger, but you can't stack items as high.

There's still a big difference is purchase price and fuel economy betwen the 2 as well.

If you're looking at a cross tour, you might as well cross shop the Pilot, and other vehciles like the Highlander, Murano and maybe even the new Kia Sedona V6.

If you like the CrossTour look, maybe the Venza, as well...

Thanks. We were thinking of Crosstour because it's a Honda and so far, we've had reliable cars from Honda. I thought of Venza as well. It has a better gas mileage compared to Crosstour. I like the CRV, but loading it up for a camping trip and going up the mountains have us thinking a stronger engine might also be nice. So if CRV comes in V6 and can have a little less road noise, it would totally win hands down. Anyone drove CRV and RAV4? How do they compare? is RAV4 less noisy? or other suggestions for something with the cargo space of the CRV, similar (or just a little worse gas mileage), stronger engine, less road noise?

RAV4 4 cylinder has a significantly buzzier and noisier engine than the CR-V. It feel very unrefined. Similar experience with the Rogue.

We did not test drive RAV4 6 Cylinder, since it was not on our radar.

CR-V does fine with its engine, and there is absolutely no need for a V6, other than "I wanna"

Look at it this way. IF the CR-V needs 3800RPM to maintain lets say 65mph up a mountain pass at 3/4 throttle... that would equal around 110HP.

A Crosstour in comparison weighs about 500lbs more but has slightly better aerodynamics, so lets say it needs 115HP. It will instead be 1 gear higher at around 2700RPM. and in some cases, because of the added weight, at lower speeds, it might be in the same gear as the CR-V.. so we're only talking about a 100RPM difference or so.

So is that extra 1100RPM's worth spending more money, and giving up some cargo room.

On a slightly less steep grade... the CR-V might be at 2700RPM... while the Crosstour would be able to stay in 5th at 2000RPM. Again... is that really a big deal?

Not really in my opinion.... especially as smooth and refined as it is.

the 4 cylinder does give up 90HP at the top end. But in most driving, it's just a matter of the 4 cylinder needing another 500-1500RPM to get the job done. The V6 doesn't even out muscle the CR-V until it's at about 5000RPM if you include hte diffrenec in gear ratios. So where the 2.4L is near redline, the V6 is still needing about 5000RPM to keep pace.
