  • Hi I have an 01 eclipse gs and i was wondering if anyone knows if i can swap the 4cyl motor out with the gts v6 engine or know a place where i can find out? i know theres alot involved but i would love to do it give the car some more power and maybe get an engine with less miles on it i only have 106000 now but i still want less lol.
  • Hi,

I am complete noob when it comes to cars. I need your help in making a decision. I am a student looking for a car on a budget. I saw a 02 Eclipse GT Coupe 2dr with 107k miles for $4750. I am not sure if this is a good buy. My concern is I want a reliable car where I spend $$ only for regular maintenance(I had a Mazda protege before and I took good care of it). I would like to use this car mainly for commute to work which is about 42miles each way and hopefully use for another 2 years before I get a new car. My biggest question: is 107k miles a lot for an 02 eclipse and how many more miles can you expect for it to run with my usage? And typically how many miles do they run for before you get major issues with the car.

I would appreciate your help and insight on this issue. Please feel free to mention any other issues that I need to be wary of before I make a purchase.

    Thanks for your help!

How do you get at to replace the 35W front fog light/lamp bulb on the 1993
    Eclipse.
The outside front of the lense has 3 Phillips head screws, two on one side
and one on the other side.
They are very difficult to try and remove and I worry I will strip the soft
    metal of the screw heads.
I wanted to try from underneath or inside the engine compartment but there
doesn't seem to be any access to the bulb.
Also, anyone have a bulb number that I can look for?

    Thanks!
    Walt

Not sure if its related but in my 2005 Eclipse, the display went blank (radio still worked) when the cigarette lighter fuse was blown. Check you fuses.

I have a 2002 Spyder. We first had a small leak on the passenger side after it would rain and it would run down the door and into the speakers. About a year ago, my daughter locked the keys in the car and called the insurance company who sent out Pop a Lock to open the car. Since that time the car leaks like a seive. After heavy rainstorms she has found as much as a half inch of standing water in the floorboards as well as all the upholstery is wet. It has shorted out the electrical system which we had replaced last week. We were told that perhaps the drainage system (?) was blocked but it was recommended that we replace the convertible top as all the stitching has worn away in the hot south FL sun. Does anyone have any other suggestions or know how to unblock this supposed drainage system? We have no idea if the pressure from the Pop a Lock experience might have caused the worsening of the problem or not but this whole idea of the car leaking at the seams has me freaked. This car only has 50,000 miles on it and is being driven by a college student.

what weight engine oil is suggested for a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse with a 4G64 engine
  • i have a 1995 eclipse and it is making some strange and alarming noises from the valve cover it is a dohc and i was wondering if anyone here could shed some light onto what it could be.thanks
  • I have a 1995 GST and truly enjoy this vehicle. Its very reliable and I have not had many problems with it. With the right maint. the car will truly be good to you.
I have not had a problem with oil or any of the problems I've read. changing the timing chain is a must. If it's a turbo check that out. but all and all I totally luv this car.
  • My clock/radio display recently went out on my 2002 mitsubishi eclipse gt spyder. When i turn the car on u can hear the cd player cycling through discs and you can put in and eject cds, but no sound comes through the speakers at all. i tore it apart and the speakers are hooked into the clock/display. Anyone know where i can get a replacement part or what to do to fix the problem? thank u so much!
  • That happened to me on my 2005 GT and it turned out to be a fuse on the side panel of the dash. A good garage can pull up the list of fuses and their location.
  • Did you ever get an answer to your wet floor boards issue and if so would you please share with me. I can't afford to pay what the dealerships want to charge to check it out. Thank you!
  • Hi everyone! This is my first post here so hopefully I'm in the right forum.

This is very remote and so far I haven't got much luck trying to find out what's going on so hopefully you'll have some idea's for me. My daughter brought her 1999 GSX with 28,000 miles on it in for a routine oil change to a very large well known discount tire store and basically immediately after getting the oil changed oil started spewing out of her valve cover( except we didn't know that's where the oil was coming from at the time ) so we returned to the shop to find out what was going on. First they said that there was a hole in the cover that didn't belong there, then they said no wait it does belong there and it's some sort of breather type hole. Today I call there and the managers is mysteriously out of the shop in a meeting the whole day. Feel like I'm getting the run around. I called a couple different Mitsubshi dealerships and they said that it sounds like they overfilled the oil creating too much pressure causing it to blow out the hole.
My question is have you ever heard of or experienced anything like this
Thanks in advance for any help or insight you can give me to this problem!
  • So I have a 95 automatic eclipse that I love. Recently it has been acting up my RPMs will jump up and down and if I hit the gas pedal my car will jerk bad. The engine light comes on and then when I slow down it will stall my break pedal locks and I can't stop unless I pull the ebrake. I don't have the money to buy a new car I want to fix this one up. First I need to know what the problem is I have been told many things and I have replaced many things like spark plugs and wires including the distributer coil pack. When I had the code read for the engine light it goes back to the coil pack but i have replaced it 2 times in the last month it can't be that anymore. Someone please help me this car is my job and my life im 20 and its all I have anymore.
    thank you,
    Andrea Lynn

Look it up in the blue book to see what it's worth first. I have a 2001 eclipse and I have a wet floorboard on the driverside every time I use the airconditioner or go through a car wash!

It is located on the driver side of the air box behind the radio. Look from the top of the gas pedal up at a 30 degree angle to the fire wall, at the edge of the carpet is where it goes though the firewall. The air box is a black plastic box that fills the lower part of the dash behind the radio to app. 2 inches above the floor. The drain line is at the bottom corner of the box nearest the gas pedal exiting the firewall. The drain tube is fixed and is not removable. If it leaks the whole box has to be replaced or a new drain made and the lower part of the box modified to redirect the condensation to the new drain. In the engine compartment the tube barely comes though the wall, maybe a quater of an inch and can only be seen from underneath on a lift. Personally I thought this was poor design due trash accumulation in it from the road and cracking due to not having any flexibility filling the floor board with cold clear water while driving. I have since modified mine after pissing away $100 on two shops(one was the local mitsibishi deal repair expert) that would not listen to the issue I descibed and tried to tell me it was ok and I had a leak from rain and car washes. My floor has not been wet since my modification.

  • Our son Jason's eclipse is running rough at idle and the transmission forward motion is almost non-existent. reverse is great. Engine speeds above idle seem fine. I am interested in any input or comments concerning overhaul vs used replacement of transmission and if there is any relationship between the tranny and rough idle?
    :) jro
  • that sounds like the throttle body. what you need to do is go get the throttle body cleaner and just clean it all out its very easy. I had to do that to my Eclipse last year and it worked. :) Hope it helps!
  • I just bought a 1990 eclipse GS it has an after market turbo and it is idling really rough. I tried to adjust the idle and it seemed to work for a little, I also changed my fuel filter and it still seems like my engine is starved for fuel. It does not like starting once I let her sit for a few hours I have to have my foot on the acelerator just to warm it up enough for to keep it from shutting off. Also when I am driving the check engine light comes on and my boost gauge stops reading, yet my turbo is still working properly. The other thing I have noticed is when im driving it feels like im trying to shift when im not and like im about to stall the car. Does anybody have any helpfull hints on this. I know nothing about this car and I cant find anything on alldata or any of the tech books I have or school books.
  • Hey everyone i am experiencing some major water problems.
I have a 2000 eclipse GT and every time it rains water collects on the floor of my passenger side. This just started happening about a month ago when rain season had begun. I am thinking it is from the sunroof but i am not too sure.
    Please help!!!!
  • I have a 95 GSX that i bought recently... finding out too late that it was an old street racing car. I think the rear right axle may be ready to die on the car. I can't find the part new/used anywhere to buy it. Is it possible that the axles are the same for front and back bc it's an all wheel drive model? Also, anyone know where to get a cheap wheel bearing assembly?

    Thanks
  • Hey guys... Ive got a mitsubishi eclipse GSX 1995, AWD no ABS.... the rear axle is shot and the wheel bearing sucks. Finding parts for a car that was manufactured for ONE year is tough.... bc they're in high demand. Should i find a part and fix it... (around $1,000) or junk it for parts?

    thanks
  • I know you posted this a while ago, but i am experiencing the same thing with mine. Were you able to find the solution yourself? If so, would you be so kind as to share?

    Thanks!

I wanted to let you know that I had the same problem with my 99 GSX and I found someone that can either rebuild you current one or sell you another one. Contact axles unlimited in Charlotte, NC I spoke to Dave at 704-399-6746. He rebuilt mine for $140.
