Thanks a lot. Very very helpful.

    Michaell,
Can you explain this a little more? My current car is paid off and worth about $14k trade-in. I was thinking of just putting that down on the lease so my payment would be very small, then paying off whatever was left in a check (just to avoid the hassle of paying the bill for 3 years). Apparently, this is a very bad idea?!

Am I better off just agreeing to whatever the payment is, ($573/mo), putting the cash in an account and then auto-paying from that account for the next 3 years? I was thinking there would be interest and/or tax advantages to just paying it off all at once but certainly don't want the risk of it being totaled and losing the whole thing. Thanks for the info.

Thank you so much for your timely response. One follow up question. when i have had this conversation with dealers they have really refused to agree with these rates and questioned where I was getting my info from and questioned its credibility. I am getting MF quotes of .0011 (10x what audi financial is really charging). I don't mind the dealership making a profit but this is $3-4k of extra lease payments. Any suggestions on what to tell them? Where do you get your data? Just trying to make it clear that i really do have the dealer's cost info just like i have the dealers invoice on the car.

The way I understand it, money down on a lease does reduce your payments by reducing the cap cost, but if the vehicle is totaled, the GAP coverage only covers the difference between the value of the car and the outstanding obligation to the financial institution (the remaining lease payments).

Here is a good article at Edmunds that explains this:

    Hi
I'm looking to lease an A6 2.0 Premium AWD in Northern Virginia.
The dealer told me $579/month on a 42 month lease with $2000 cash due at signing. This also includes Audi Care. The MSRP is $52,735. Is this a good deal?
I don't know what MF and residual he is applying.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you

The base MF is .00038 and the residual is 50% for 42 mo / 10K miles per year. MF can be marked up by the dealer, but the residual cannot be changed.

We would need to know the selling price and how much of the $2000 is for start up fees and how much is cap cost reduction before we can comment on this deal.

"When you say that's not the money factor, are you saying that isn't the buy rate from Audi? Or, are you marking it up for extra profit? I'd like to know exactly what you mean."

If they say the former, then say: "Well, then I'll have to check my sources, because someone isn't telling the truth.." Then, walk out the door.. If they say it's the latter, then say: "I don't lease cars with marked-up money factors".

At least, that's how I do it... Sometimes, I don't make a deal.

When I plug your numbers in with the residual of 53% and MF of .00015, I get a pre-tax payment of $512.17. 8.5% sales tax takes the payment to $555.70.

Is the $45,000 selling price after the $4500 down payment? If so, I would try to negotiate a lower selling price - you should be able to get a few percent off.

Hi, The dealer is also including Road Hazard Warranty which costs $650 and Wear and tera warranty for $600 as well in suggested price . Does that make this deal better?

I'm not familiar with either of those options. Only you can decide if they are right for you, based on your driving habits and environment.

If you decline them, will your payment be lower?

Ok. This is the deal I got. An A6 2.0T FWD Prem Plus . MSRP 50,870. Negotiated down to 45,227.30 INCLUDING Audi Care.

Total out of pocket is $1908 due at inception, consisting of first payment, tax, tag, title, registration, dealer fee, and bank fee.

    Monthly payment on a 10K/36 month lease is 486.94 + interest of 10.68 + tax of 37.32 = $534.94 monthly.

    All in.

Does this sound like a good deal. I'm a little worried because there was no negotiation. They just agreed to it.

My calculations work out just a bit different, but not so much to matter - my pre-tax payment works out to $490.11.

If you're happy with the selling price - and, with over $5K off sticker, why wouldn't you be - then it looks like a pretty good deal.

My dealer gave me 45% Residual Value on an A6 Prestige (MSRP = ~$63K, Residual = ~$28K) for 15K miles & 36 Months. Seemed awfully low to me, have others had similar experiences?

    I'm showing 48% for 36/15 on the A6 3.0T Prestige, 49% for TDI.

It could be this is not an Audi Finance lease program.

.00011, are you sure? I thought MF was interest rate / 2400. If the MF is .00011, that suggests that the APR = 2400 * 0.00011 = 0.264%.

Yes - I'm looking at the April numbers from AFS, and yes, that does translate into an interest rate of .26%.

Gotta love those subsidized leases - at least, on the MF side. Audi doesn't tend to inflate their residuals like, say, Infiniti or MB.

With the base money factor of .00007, I get a payment of $609/mo. + tax.. Assuming the $1500 is 1st payment, and acq.fee, title/license fees, that looks to be pretty close.

I ended up getting a fully loaded A6 AWD 2.0 Premium Plus (MSRP $53,935) with Audi Care from a dealer in Maryland for $549 (42mon/10k) with all tax and tags rolled in. No money down.

I couldn't have done it without the great folks on this forum.

Is this lease through Audi Finance? I ask as the MF (.00018) and residual (53%), when used with your MSRP and adjusted cap cost, get me a pre-tax payment of $571.02.

Base residual is 50% - add 2% for 12K, and another 1% for AudiCare.

You should ask the dealer to provide the numbers they are using.

Yes, this is through Audi Finance. The MF they used was 0.00057. The total monthly payment plus taxes was $551. However, after adding the Audi Care, Term Care and Excess Wear and Tear it came out to be $586 after- taxes ($542 pre-tax).

Does this sound right to you? What questions should I be asking them?

There are two possible reasons why the MF is marked up:

    1) Extra profit for the dealer

    2) Less than tier 1 credit score

I would find out from them which it is.

The numbers I quoted originally should be the ones your dealer should be using - $571.02 pre-tax payment.

Residual cannot be modified by the dealer.

@rajz said: just to clarify 52403 + 695 (acquisition fee) brings total to 53098.. I have 607.28 + tax bringing it to 652.83?? is that accurate?? I don't know exactly what 1500 covers?? I am assuming 1st mnth and DMV title registration

any thoughts onmy earlier questions..Thanks for the help..need to close this one today..

My co-host answered this .. he calculated $609/mo + tax using the base MF from Audi. So, pretty close to your numbers. If you're comfortable with the selling price - and, at invoice, there is no reason not to be - then you should be good to go.

I assumed the acq, fee was paid in the $1500. I got the $609/mo, just from the selling price you provided.

Could you provide the April MF and residual for an A6 Premium Plus 3.0 TFSI and Premium Plus 2.0 TFSI? 12000 miles/36 months for both. Thanks.

Looking at leasing a 2014 A6 2.0 w/Premium Plus package. Wondering what the MF and residual % would be. Trying to get it for $550/mo. $0 drive off for 36 mo. @ 15k miles/yr. Sound feasible? Thanks!
