Any comments or first hand stories that would effect purchase of a ford truck or dodge truck?

I am looking to buy my second truck, my first was a hand me down from a uncle (1992 F250) i am looking now at others from 1990-2006, mostly 250s, i have also seen plenty of dodges i like and it seems that they are only worth buying if you get the diesel engine. I was wondering if anyone knew some helpful stories on ford trucks between the years for what i should look for and if theres any stories from dodge users on what to look for, Thanks!
