  • Ok so I'm one of those dorks that rented "Who killed the electric car." Great movie anyone who hasn't watched the movie I highly suggest it. Any ways In the movie there was also a EV Toyota RAV4. Hmm? I thought, wouldn't the Element Be the perfect platform form for a EV? Or even hybrid with fossil fuel being secondary. Just a thought.

    The Element is heavier than the CR-V, so I think the CR-V would be better. Batteries add a lot of weight and subtract from an already limited payload.

    Sorry for being so practical about it. Just ignore me. :P

    I think (know) that the hybrid concept is a flawed one, and a set of systems that will NOT provide the energy solution. The first down fall is that two nearly fully independent propulsion systems plus management computers have to lugged all over the place. They need to be pushed up a mountain and then again controlled on the down side; - they need to be acacceleratednd slowed down again, over and over again. This CANNOT be economical just at the face of it!!! If vehicles were to be built smaller, lighter, with functional engineering through use of high tech materials and composite structure, a simple small combustion engine can be as efficient as the cumbersome hybrids. The hybrids only exist because there are govt. incentives / mandates to introduce them to the markets. I will NEVER own a hybrid!! In '86 I bought a 3cyl Chevy Sprint (Suzuki), with a primitive cacarburetorunning on unleaded 87, and got me a consistent 40+ mpg even with a perpetual lelead footnd shift points north a 5000 RPM. I am dawggone if there isn't a way to improve on 'p'promisingprimitive' 20+ year old technology.

    A-ha! I owned one of those Sprints as well. 5 door model, with a whopping 48 horsepower! :D

    It was a tin can, though, and would not come close to meeting today's safety standards.

    It did get me 45mpg during the first Persion Gulf war, though, just when gas prices spiked.

    What Would you guys choose between a '06 CR-V or a '07 Element?

    No kids? Element. Back seat is seldom used and you gain all the flexibility.

    Kids? CR-V is better suited, and the old model doesn't have the underbite of the 07s.

    I have an '05 CR-V EX 4WD but would rather prefer the utilitarian Element. It really depends on the individual's perception and desires. My wife refused to approach an Element, thus I got stuck with the tighter CR-V. The Element has a much larger cabin and is MUCH stronger built. Check out those door jambs, - they would look fine in any 60s Cadillac. The Element is shorter and heavier than the CR-V the drive trains are very similar, ththeeating position in the CR-V is more carlike.... Your pick, both are good at what they want to be...

    Appearances can be deceiving - those door jambs didn't help in side impact crash tests. The CR-V fared better, for instance. With side air bags standard that's much less of a concern now.

    The door jambs may be beefy, but remember, they had to remove the B-pillar.

    I just signed up for Consumer Reports and guess what their articles on small SUV's had in the Feb mag.; 2007 Honda Element. They said the payload is only 650lb. have any of you guys had a problem with this low payload? I was also wondering, they said it had a visibility problem because of chunky pillars. Do you owners of Elements have any complaints with visisbility? With the rear seats strapped to the walls, is there any visisbility problems there either? After today, here in Ohio, I'm making sure I have a 4wd vehicle. In just two hours we got almost 2 in. of snow. A couple of frieds of mine that owned cars could not make it up the hill in Cadiz where we were at for a meeting. My friend and his wife made it up with no problems in their '98 CR-V, Will a 2007 Element do the same?

    I came from a 06 civic coupe that had lousy visability. I'm happy with the visability on my new 07 Element SC. However, the visability is far less with the rear seats strapped to the walls, so one has to be more careful. Cannot answer the payload question since I'm the only one in the car and do not load it up.

    I almost forgot, will the Elements 4WD do well on dirt road, muddy back roads and ect. I will be on these every once and a while, so this will be needed.Also what is your guy's insurance rates every 6 months? I don't want to invade yourprivacy but a general idea to me would help. thanks

  • Help! Went in to look at the '07 CRV (currently own a'98 CRV-EX 71,000 miles, no problems just thinking of changing up) and instead fell in love with the Element. Now I can't decide which to go with, the SC or EX. Like the allover body color look of the SC, the console, those wheels, and the urban chic look it's got, but I'm wondering if the EX will hold up better to road debris flying up and hitting the vehicle with the black trim around it(dings and paint chipping)? Also how does the black vinyl trim hold up to fading? I'm going to the dealership Wednesday to test drive the SC and EX again to check out wind noise, etc... Thoughts anyone?

    Only had mine for 4 weeks now, on my second tank of gas, got the Root Beer color. Had the 06 civic coupe, and only one liked it in my neighborhood. With this new Element SC, I have gotten many looks and comments on how much better it appears over the LX or EX with the solid color.

    Don't have any first hand knowledge of the road debris so far, nor seats fading either since this is a brand new veh. Only got 17.56 gallons per mile city driving only on the first tank. Now working on the second tank and seems it will be the same thus far. Road noise is noticeable, but not an issue.

    Interesting thing noticed, is that the windshield wipers are thinner than on the civic I had, but can hardly hear them turned on. The civic coupe was very noticeable thumping sound, which I did not like. Civic windshield wipers did not clean the glass as well as the Element. Guess I don't need to install an upgrade for it as I would have with the civic.

    One thing I would change is the seat height adjustment knob. Too close to the door and some what difficult to turn. Like the pump action one better. Would have liked a dead foot pedal as well, not to mention a Navigation system

    I own an '06 EX 4wd. In my case, I like the looks of the new SC, however, it is only available in 2wd, and is not available with the sunroof.

    If you are ok with 2wd, I would go with the SC, and get the optional mud flaps on it, which would probably help protect the lower panels from chips.

    For the life of me, why in the world would Honda put the sunroof in the back. The darn driver paid for the thing. Let the driver have the sunroof, not the baggage :confuse:

    The purpose of the sunroof in back is to allow people to stand up through the sunroof while changing in and out of their wetsuits - at least that's what the original commercials showed.

    I bet that with the suicide door the safety ring around the passenger compartment would be compromised by a sunroof.
