I need a radio code for a 2002 Daewoo Nubira. My radio went dead after my battery died. All I see is code.

    2000 Lanos
My check engine light is still on after changing spark plugs and wires. Now the code says to change out the speed sensor. Where is this thing located at?

only guessing......on the transmission output shaft?
  • i need to know which valve tool will work to extract my valves.
  • I have a 2000 nubira wagon. I have spurt leak every 5 or 10 seconds from my valve cover. Do you think I might be able to tighten it down some to stop it? About 57K on the motor from a junk yard so no real historyon the engine. the timing belt and small round parts with the timing have been changed out though.
    I am in NC, usa.
I will probably change the gasket when I have time. I haven't changed a new type rubber gasket only the old type in he 60's and 70's. apparently I buy some gasket maker or sealer (silicone) and place that where the corner curves are in the gasket plus around the spark plug holes.

best type of gasket sealer or maker to buy?

What brand is a good gasket to get?

or should I pay premium and get the gasket from the dealer?

Any unusual things to know about to valve cover gasket replacemt on the 2000 daewoo nubira? :)
  • I don't have a Nubira, mine is a Leganza. I think the motors may be similar.
Oil may leak from the valve cover, but should not "spurt". Tightening probably won't help since the bolts should be torqued. (Leganza is 71 inch pounds--IMPORTANT).
I would check crankcase ventilation hoses; looking for collapsed, soft or tightly bent hoses coming from the valve cover.
If you do change the valve cover gasket, I have found one is about as good as another and have even used the old one if not broken.
I put a heavy coat of Mega Grey on mine and cut the heads off four long bolts to screw in as a temporary guide when re-installing. Clean everything thoroughly and dry.
Look in the spark plug holes. If there is oil in them, the gasket is leaking and the engine won't operate properly. Hope this helps.

My 2002 Lanos has broken 4 thermostat housings in the last month. I have been getting the replacement parts from a local parts dealer that specializes in import cars. His shop also checked the engine and can't find anything wrong with the engine that might be causing the cooling system to get too much pressure in it.

Does anyone know if there has been a run of bad parts or what else I should look for?

    Thanks
  • hi i have a 1999 daewoo lanus with 1.6 engine i'm wonder if i can put a biger engine like 2.0 or 2.2 and still pass California smog test tk

You can upgrade (put in a newer engine) but not downgrade (put in an older engine). Also you might have to go to a referee and/or get special registration.

Best to first discuss this with a smog specialist to see if the computer will automatically kick you out on the test, before you go to all this trouble.

Also (and I don't wish to be discouraging, just helpful), this will be a fair amount of work and probably you'd be much better off just buying a faster car.

My opinion is that for mods and speed equipment, working on a Japanese car is so much easier and gives you so many more options than a Daewoo.

Of course, if you have time + money + skill, you can put any engine in ANY car.

I think we got the problem solved. It turns out that the Chevy Aveo uses the same thermostat housing but it is made of metal. It cost a lot more but at least the glue won't separate because it's bolted together.
  • Why would it do that and how can I repair the problem?
  • kiawahkiawah Posts: 3,666
Start measuring some voltages, to see what is really going on at the starter connections.

Makes no sense that a starter would only start at a lower "too low" voltage.
  • I have a 2000 Daewoo Lanos my transmission went out. The guy that looked at says this car has a nonrepairable transmission. Is this true? If so where can I find a transmission for it. Are there any repair shops that sell them because I know the online Daewoo company will cost an arm and a leg?
  • When filling up my gas tank, the gasoline pump at the station keeps shutting off within a few seconds as if the tank is full. At times the gasoline spurts out forcefully. What could be causing this to happen. I need to know where and how I can obtain a repair manual. Thanks. EM

Not true. Find another mechanic. This is a GM transmission used in Sunfire, Cavalier, etc.

No such thing as a "nonrepairable" transmission. Well I suppose if it melted in a fire....

  • My 2000 Lanos is having problems shifting. I start the car and it idles fine. Then the moment I try and put it in drive the engine cuts out and dies. If I apply the gas sometimesw it sputters nd other times it goes like it should. Once I get out of first, it shifts fine. This is an automatic. Whats my problem, besides it's a Daewoo?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright CaliforniaPosts: 44,855
This doesn't sound like a transmission issue, but rather a driveability issue. If there are no codes stored (car should be scanned) best thing to do is look for vacuum leaks, and also clean the MAF sensor--two relatively simple DIY procedures.

  • My passenger electric wondow on my 2001 Lanos, is not working. I had to manually pull it up and I'm holding it up with cardboard, I believe it's the regulator but I understand there are 2-3 other possibilities - does anyone know if I can to it myself? Or does anyone know the cost of the part and repair?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright CaliforniaPosts: 44,855
It's not necessarily the regulator, but that's certainly a good possibility. The regulator could have loosened from the window channel that it normally lifts up----or a weld could have broken. You'd have to pop the door panel off to investigate.

Replacing the regulator is shown in the books as $55 parts and one hour labor, so that's not too bad at all.

have the same problem with '99 leganza. has anyone answered Please help out there
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright CaliforniaPosts: 44,855
Next time it won't start, someone needs to put a fuel pressure gauge on a T fitting into the fuel rail.

Or a cheaper faster way might be to squirt some starting fluid into the air intake---if the engine kicks over, you have a fuel delivery problem. If it doesn't start, it's probably an ignition or sensor/module issue.
