Ford is recalling 196,639 2010-'14 Ford Taurus sedans because a potential corrosion issue in the license-plate lamp could lead to a fire risk.

On 2/7/15 we experienced a fire in the rear bumper of our 2014 Taurus. We were being followed by by friends when they called us to advise that our taillights went out. They them immediately called to say there were flames coming out of the top of our bumper. We stopped and immediately started packing snow in to the hole were the flames were coming out and were able to extinguish the fire. The vehicle had been at Facillo Ford in Waterloo, NY in June of 14' for routine service when we were advised of the recall. They said parts were on back order and would notify us, never telling us the severity of the recall. They have never notified us. If it had not been for us being followed, the fire could have easily reached the gas tank, would have probably exploded and four people would have perished. This is a very serious recall and more emphasis should be placed on it. When the dealer was notified they said it was a Ford problem and they could do nothing. Said to call Ford.

In February 2016 I had noticed that the license plate lights were not working on my 2011 Ford Taurus and took it into the dealership for service. I was notified by the dealership that the wiring harness was corroded and that the original recall was done in 2013 so the part would not be covered. It is a shame that the recall part only lasted 2 1/2 years before needing to be replaced again because of corrosion. I have contacted Ford on this matter and they refuse to do anything on it. I have also send info on to NHTSB regarding the wiring harness from the recall is still corroding. Watch out if you buy this model!!
