Is the 3-month waiting period imposed by Mazda?
I was also a little concerned with potential long-term mazda reliability, and with only 3500 mi. the jury is still out, but so far 0 problems. I value Consumer Reports as well, but with limitations- I had a 2000 Paasat (a CR best pick) and it was by far the worst new car I've ever owned. Just now CR is catching up with VW quality issues. I don't expect the Mazda to be as overall troublefree as the Honda, but it boiled down to: love the way the M6 drives, like its looks much better than the Accord sedan, and the hatchback is awesome. I think the 6 will be a decent, mostly troublefree vehicle- certainly more so than anything German or American made. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours!
Best of Luck

I see this from a different forum. The girl said she re-finance in couple weeks without any problem. What I don't get is, Hoe she get the title if the car is not paid off?
Her message:
"I did take the $1000 off by financing thru Mazda which they gave me a percent of 7.9. However, as soon as you pay your sales tax and get your title you can go and finance thru someone else. Thats what I did. I Went thru a credit union and got it at 4% and I didnt even make a payment on the 7.9%. It did not cost me a penny and I did get an additional $1000 off for doing it. Thats how it is in St. Louis MO, I am sure its probably like that in other places.
Kind of in a way. It wasn't a few days later. To finance thru someone else you have to have your title first. To get your title you have to pay your sales tax. I paid my sales tax, two weeks later I got the title in the mail and then that day went to finance with a credit union. The person that told me to do that was actually the salesperson. I had a very honset sales guy and apparently alot of people do that to get that additional $1000 dollars off. Of course since I am a girl and don't know alot about that stuff my dad checked it all out for me and said it was worth it. So I did it. I guess really it depends if you already belong to a credit union. I already did but I know some credit unions make you pay like a $5 fee for joining. If it goes as smooth as mine you shouldn't have to pay anything unless you don't belong to a credit union already. Good luck!"
I've never heard of getting the title to a car you don't own! And I imagine it's tough to refinance the car without the title, unless you go the home-equity route.
Basically, enough time to have all the title work completed etc.....I think I will pick up my Mazda6 tonight.
Good Luck.
Whether you get the title or not probably doesn't really matter, because as long as the vehicle has been financed there is a leinholder either in posession of it or named on it, and I'm sure you would have to payoff their loan before you can have anything done with the title. The specifics may very from state to state, but you probably need to get your refinancing deal approved first, then have the new bank make a payoff on the original loan, so the original lienholder will release the title to them.
If you have ever refinanced a mortgage, it is a similar process.
My situation was a little tricky because I was in the middle of a lease on a Jetta and I owed $16,500 on it. The trades were going for $13,000. I looked at releasing it, selling it, and finally after all my investigation, trading it in was my best option - outside of keeping it.
However, I figured that since I knew I wasn't going to buy the car at the end - why spend another $7,000 over the next 2 years on a car I will never own.
Anyway, with that in mind -
MSRP: $23,115
Invoice: $21,500
OTD Price: $21,350 with all rebates being used to cover the negative equity on the car, and the sales tax etc.
However, I also got them to throw in tinted windows - for $50, and a sports grill that is on order right now.
It took me forever - but I am happy. Shoot, I also look at it as getting rid of my Jetta just in time because it had 19,600 miles on it, and at 20,000 miles there is some major standard maintence due on it for about $350.
None the less - using the MAC financing, I am going to refinance in a month to a good rate of 4.49%.
Anyway - through all my searching, I basically had to decide on my trade in value that I would accept, and learn that it wasn't worth it to sell it. (I would have had to pay sales tax twice).
However, I am already confused on how to work the damn heater. It doesn't seem to want to do what I want it to do...oh well. Hopefully I can figure something out.
oh....plus, they threw in some free detailing for the next 3 months.

As soon as the paperwork is filed, the deal is done. So, from what I understand, as soon as I get my license plates I am going to start the refinancing process. By then there will be a title.
I can understand where you got the 3-months though. The sales lady said that to me and I challenged it, and she didn't really have an explanation.
So, I read the contract pretty carefully and nowhere in there is there any stipulation on when the car can be refinanced. I also asked my bank, and they didn't have a stipulation.....you may be able to refi sooner than you think....
I tend to think that it is merely a rule of thumb that they sort of mentioned to the salespeople to make the buyers believe they had to keep the car that long before re-financing.

I purchased it at Russell & Smith Mazda in Houston. I was a walk-in. There was a little haggling on the price - but nothing too high pressured. Additionally, the finance guy was reasonable. He didn't try to sell too many add ons. I have been to places before where they automatically put the add ons in the contract and you had to have them redo the thing beforehand.
This place simple laid out 4 options - well 3 options and a do nothing option. Gap insurance, etc.
Anyway, what I am starting to become most impressed with is the after purchase service so far. I noted an ever so slight dimple in part of the door I didn't originally notice and I mentioned it to them and they just told me to bring the car by to have it fixed - as they should. But you know how it can be sometimes - the second the sale is done, it is like they don't even know you.
Anyway...I went to 4 different dealers and them and Gillman seemed to be the nicest and least amount of BS....well, a little BS, but not as much as in the past. The difference was Russell & Smith is more in town, so they could offer me more for my trade in on my car.
I bought my fully loaded 2005 M6s today @ invoice - 2500 rebate. The closer told me the 1000 MAC rebate require 4 payment before it can be payoff. The closer told me if I payoff early, MAZDA will charge them back, and they might ask me to pay the rebat back.
I qualify for the S-Plan (never used it before however). The model I am looking at is a 2004 Mazda 6s V6 with sports package. With the S-Plan and current incentives, what price can I expect to get on an 2004 6? Can I find a better deal without using my S-Plan? Thanks, any insight would be appreciated.
Anyway, I will look at my contract again before changing it over.
However haggling is not very hard. Just search the websites of dealers in your states and newspaper ads. Somebody will offer good prices. Take it to your favorite dealer tand they should match.
I am looking at 04 Mazda 6 s 5-Door with luxury package and wheel locks, MSRP $25,285. Since I have just begun looking I have no access to either invoice pricing or incentives that may apply. It is my understanding that dealers "claim" them on unsold vehicles prior to their expiration so they should apply on this car. They are advertising discounts of $4000 on 05 models so the 04s must be greater. Could someone take a shot at a reasonable offering price for this car? I live in the plains states and I graduated from grad school in 72 so I am not eligible for college grad, lol. I do own a Tribute if owners loyalty may apply. My thoughts are that if they are offering $4000 from MSRP on 05s they should be looking at about $6000 on 04s. I would appreciate any thoughts.
I have heard anything from 1-month (just to allow enough time for registration etc.) to 3- months, and now 6-months. I don't know what the contract actually says, but mine doesn't even elude to any prepayment penaltys or, the fact that I have to not refinance for a while. To me it is open season if it doesn't say anything in the contract.
I just bought a 2004 wagon with Sport package and 5-speed automatic. It had a sticker price of 24,451. The advertised price in the Washington Post last Sunday was 15,993, excluding freight. The total discount was 8,000 from sticker, including all incentives and dealer discounts. This should give you a good target price. The dealer I'd bought my 2003 6 from couldn't match this price; they said the selling dealer was taking a loss. So be it - they do this sometimes for the sake of getting people into the showroom.
Thanks for your input. I have been finding prices that are about $6000 off of MSRP. I started out looking at 05 Mazda 3s and sort of switched after I drove a 6. Anyone else have any recent experience I am sure several of us could benefit from it. I am now planning on waiting until the 31st to try to close the deal. The only problem that I may have is if they sell the car I am interested in. As they say, "when they are gone they are gone".
Thanks,
Alisha
THat seems like a fair deal to me. I got mine for about $17,000 without any options but the Sports package, but I had a trade in, so my sales taxes were only $250 - I would imagine you are paying closer to $1200 in sales tax. So, in essence it seems like you are paying about $3,000 for all of those options.....I think each of those options is something like....$700 H/B + $700 Auto + $550 Bose + $550 Moonroof + $450 Airbags = $2950.....
$21,300 OTD price for V-6 hatchback, auto, Bose, sunroof, deflector, auto dim/compass mirror, side airbags, and wheel locks. With the $3,000 rebate + $1,000 financing rebate (I plan to refinance immediately at lower credit union rate), I figure I paid about $100 over invoice. I had a tough time even finding '04s in the DC metro area, so I guess this wasn't too bad a deal.
if you dont have any special incentives...I would be suspect of the price you were offered.
I have no other incentives such as those you mentioned. I did confirm with the dealer that the quote includes destination but not the $134 doc fee.
They are aware now that I have a possible trade, but the price was quoted before I mentioned that I had one.
