Perfect. This is exactly what I wanted to hear. Last night MAC approved me at 10% and I walked out saying I needed 6%. This morning I got a approved from my credit union for 4.74%....although, it is only good for 60-days...but it shouldn't change too much by then.

One question about the 3-months. Where does the 3-months come from? I called Wells Fargo and they said there wasn't any waiting period.

Is the 3-month waiting period imposed by Mazda?
  • fitguyfitguy Member Posts: 220
    svalley-

I was also a little concerned with potential long-term mazda reliability, and with only 3500 mi. the jury is still out, but so far 0 problems. I value Consumer Reports as well, but with limitations- I had a 2000 Paasat (a CR best pick) and it was by far the worst new car I've ever owned. Just now CR is catching up with VW quality issues. I don't expect the Mazda to be as overall troublefree as the Honda, but it boiled down to: love the way the M6 drives, like its looks much better than the Accord sedan, and the hatchback is awesome. I think the 6 will be a decent, mostly troublefree vehicle- certainly more so than anything German or American made. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours!

    Best of Luck

I see this from a different forum. The girl said she re-finance in couple weeks without any problem. What I don't get is, Hoe she get the title if the car is not paid off?

    Her message:

"I did take the $1000 off by financing thru Mazda which they gave me a percent of 7.9. However, as soon as you pay your sales tax and get your title you can go and finance thru someone else. Thats what I did. I Went thru a credit union and got it at 4% and I didnt even make a payment on the 7.9%. It did not cost me a penny and I did get an additional $1000 off for doing it. Thats how it is in St. Louis MO, I am sure its probably like that in other places.

Kind of in a way. It wasn't a few days later. To finance thru someone else you have to have your title first. To get your title you have to pay your sales tax. I paid my sales tax, two weeks later I got the title in the mail and then that day went to finance with a credit union. The person that told me to do that was actually the salesperson. I had a very honset sales guy and apparently alot of people do that to get that additional $1000 dollars off. Of course since I am a girl and don't know alot about that stuff my dad checked it all out for me and said it was worth it. So I did it. I guess really it depends if you already belong to a credit union. I already did but I know some credit unions make you pay like a $5 fee for joining. If it goes as smooth as mine you shouldn't have to pay anything unless you don't belong to a credit union already. Good luck!"

I financed thru MAC a year ago to get an additional $500 rebate. They told me the same 3-month deal to qualify for the rebate. I made two payments, then on the third payment I paid off the loan. A couple of weeks after that I received the title from MAC.

I've never heard of getting the title to a car you don't own! And I imagine it's tough to refinance the car without the title, unless you go the home-equity route.
  • escortownerescortowner Member Posts: 132
well...I have heard quite a range of information and this is what I have found from the Mazda people. The sales lady told me 3-months. The Fleet Manager at another dealership said about a month.

Basically, enough time to have all the title work completed etc.....I think I will pick up my Mazda6 tonight.
  • svalleysvalley Member Posts: 30
Please post your MSRP price, final price, and model year once you done tonight.

    Good Luck.

In my state, the owner does get the title when the vehicle is registered, but there is a leinholder listed on the back if the vehicle was financed. However, the loan must be paid and the lienholder must certify that it has been paid before transfer of ownership can take place.

Whether you get the title or not probably doesn't really matter, because as long as the vehicle has been financed there is a leinholder either in posession of it or named on it, and I'm sure you would have to payoff their loan before you can have anything done with the title. The specifics may very from state to state, but you probably need to get your refinancing deal approved first, then have the new bank make a payoff on the original loan, so the original lienholder will release the title to them.

If you have ever refinanced a mortgage, it is a similar process.

Well - I have been looking since about the middle of October, and when all is said and done, I ended up with a 2004 Mazda6 s with the sports package.

My situation was a little tricky because I was in the middle of a lease on a Jetta and I owed $16,500 on it. The trades were going for $13,000. I looked at releasing it, selling it, and finally after all my investigation, trading it in was my best option - outside of keeping it.

However, I figured that since I knew I wasn't going to buy the car at the end - why spend another $7,000 over the next 2 years on a car I will never own.

Anyway, with that in mind -

    MSRP: $23,115

    Invoice: $21,500

OTD Price: $21,350 with all rebates being used to cover the negative equity on the car, and the sales tax etc.

However, I also got them to throw in tinted windows - for $50, and a sports grill that is on order right now.

It took me forever - but I am happy. Shoot, I also look at it as getting rid of my Jetta just in time because it had 19,600 miles on it, and at 20,000 miles there is some major standard maintence due on it for about $350.

None the less - using the MAC financing, I am going to refinance in a month to a good rate of 4.49%.

Anyway - through all my searching, I basically had to decide on my trade in value that I would accept, and learn that it wasn't worth it to sell it. (I would have had to pay sales tax twice).

However, I am already confused on how to work the damn heater. It doesn't seem to want to do what I want it to do...oh well. Hopefully I can figure something out.

oh....plus, they threw in some free detailing for the next 3 months.

I love my Mazda but the climate control system isn't the greatest. I found I have to have it up higher than I would normally set a heater to have it work right. Also on wet days the auto control doesn't defog the windows quickly enough so I have to turn it off and set it manually. And yes, the air conditioning light is always on even if it's 10 degrees outside. But, hey, the rest of the car is great so far! Enjoy.

From what I know it is from Mazda yes
  • escortownerescortowner Member Posts: 132
You may want to check your contract carefully. I asked the fleet manager at Mazda yesterday and he said there was no limit on the contract.

As soon as the paperwork is filed, the deal is done. So, from what I understand, as soon as I get my license plates I am going to start the refinancing process. By then there will be a title.

I can understand where you got the 3-months though. The sales lady said that to me and I challenged it, and she didn't really have an explanation.

So, I read the contract pretty carefully and nowhere in there is there any stipulation on when the car can be refinanced. I also asked my bank, and they didn't have a stipulation.....you may be able to refi sooner than you think....
  • slickdogslickdog Member Posts: 225
I've heard of loans requiring a certain amount of time or payments before making a payoff, but I've never had one. It makes sense though, because the lender probably won't make much profit if they pay for your car then you payoff their loan and go to another lender for refinancing right away. They want that big interest from your early payments first!
  • escortownerescortowner Member Posts: 132
That makes sense to me. However, when I looked over the loan papers, there wasn't any stipulation on the car. In fact, my first payment isn't for 6-weeks. That should be enough time to get my loan converted.

I tend to think that it is merely a rule of thumb that they sort of mentioned to the salespeople to make the buyers believe they had to keep the car that long before re-financing.

Suydam: If you don't want the AC light on, can't you just hit the AC button and turn it off? That's what I do in my 6s.
  • suydamsuydam Member Posts: 4,676
Yes, but then the auto climate control light goes off, so it's unclear if that is working the way it's supposed to. I notice others are confused about the system too.

This is just a followup on the car I recently purchased.

I purchased it at Russell & Smith Mazda in Houston. I was a walk-in. There was a little haggling on the price - but nothing too high pressured. Additionally, the finance guy was reasonable. He didn't try to sell too many add ons. I have been to places before where they automatically put the add ons in the contract and you had to have them redo the thing beforehand.

This place simple laid out 4 options - well 3 options and a do nothing option. Gap insurance, etc.

Anyway, what I am starting to become most impressed with is the after purchase service so far. I noted an ever so slight dimple in part of the door I didn't originally notice and I mentioned it to them and they just told me to bring the car by to have it fixed - as they should. But you know how it can be sometimes - the second the sale is done, it is like they don't even know you.

Anyway...I went to 4 different dealers and them and Gillman seemed to be the nicest and least amount of BS....well, a little BS, but not as much as in the past. The difference was Russell & Smith is more in town, so they could offer me more for my trade in on my car.

I bought my fully loaded 2005 M6s today @ invoice - 2500 rebate. The closer told me the 1000 MAC rebate require 4 payment before it can be payoff. The closer told me if I payoff early, MAZDA will charge them back, and they might ask me to pay the rebat back.

Being in the market for a new ride, the current incentives on the 04's got me researching. I've seen some people post on here about what they're paying for the remaining 04's, but I wanted to see if anyone had some advice for me.

I qualify for the S-Plan (never used it before however). The model I am looking at is a 2004 Mazda 6s V6 with sports package. With the S-Plan and current incentives, what price can I expect to get on an 2004 6? Can I find a better deal without using my S-Plan? Thanks, any insight would be appreciated.
  • escortownerescortowner Member Posts: 132
Thanks for the info. I will check into it more carefully, but everything I signed didn't show any restrictions. I will doublecheck to see if there is anything on the backside of the contract preventing it; however, if it doesn't say anything written on the contract, they can't come back because they told you verbally. There would have been some sort of section on the contract stating that you understand you can't refinance for x amount of time.

Anyway, I will look at my contract again before changing it over.
  • escortownerescortowner Member Posts: 132
S-Plan is basically invoice pricing. Right now there is also a dealer cash incentive of $750. I am not completely sure on this, but when I was negotiating before, they were saying that if you use S-Plan then you aren't entitled to the Dealer cash....not sure if that is true, or just smoke, but in essence, using the S-plan is an easy negotiation because you just tell them you qualify for S-plan. IF you work at it, you can probably get a couple of hundred lower and dig into their holdback. Especially on an 04. One thing you may try to do is go to a dealership where their lot is overfull....remind them that the 05's are going for about $1000 over invoice, whereas an 04 is selling right at invoice (less any incentives). Note to them that even if they lose a couple hundred on this one car, it will open a spot on their lot for more 05's where the margins are bigger at this time of year....not sure if that will hold water to them, but it is sort of true.

The answer to your question will mostly depend on where you live. Under S plan you are entitled to a preset price (almost invoice) minus rebates. In certain areas (at least gulf states) there is a 2250 rebate plus 1000 financing rebate plus 750 dealer cash. You would not get the dealer cash. S plan is a loser here because you can easily get the car cheaper on your own. In other states (central states at least) there is a 3000 rebate rather than 2250 plus 750 dealer cash. Since there is no dealer cash here you will do pretty well. You might still beat this price by about a couple hundred but if that is not worth haggling than the price is pretty fair.

However haggling is not very hard. Just search the websites of dealers in your states and newspaper ads. Somebody will offer good prices. Take it to your favorite dealer tand they should match.

I own a 2003 6 sedan that I've already put 54K miles on, and its been the best car I've owned. Because of the deals that are going on now on 2004s, we decided to get one for my wife too. We got her a 6 wagon (all wagons are 6 cyl) with Sport package and 5 speed automatic. The price was incredibly low; 15,993 (advertised in Wash. Post), plus taxes, tags and freight. It was 17,901 out the door, including a 100.00 processing fee.

Thanks to all of you for the education! We just bought on Wednesday here in OK and got 2500 Rebate plus 1000 MAC cash and 800 over blue book (1800) on our blue book purchased Explorer for trade. I think...if I am understanding yall's talk about S-plan that we beat it? MSRP was 25.5 and we financed 17.4 with 2500 down. I almost walked when they raised the interest at the finance table but took 7.4 with plans to refinance. They told us we had to wait 6 months before we could. I will be scouring my contract and get back to everyone. Zoom-Zoom

I am a newbee to this forum but I am not a newbee to Mazdas, had a 626, 929, and currently have a Tribute.

I am looking at 04 Mazda 6 s 5-Door with luxury package and wheel locks, MSRP $25,285. Since I have just begun looking I have no access to either invoice pricing or incentives that may apply. It is my understanding that dealers "claim" them on unsold vehicles prior to their expiration so they should apply on this car. They are advertising discounts of $4000 on 05 models so the 04s must be greater. Could someone take a shot at a reasonable offering price for this car? I live in the plains states and I graduated from grad school in 72 so I am not eligible for college grad, lol. I do own a Tribute if owners loyalty may apply. My thoughts are that if they are offering $4000 from MSRP on 05s they should be looking at about $6000 on 04s. I would appreciate any thoughts.

I tell you what....I bought mine just over a week ago, and as soon as I get my registration papers I am going to refinance.

I have heard anything from 1-month (just to allow enough time for registration etc.) to 3- months, and now 6-months. I don't know what the contract actually says, but mine doesn't even elude to any prepayment penaltys or, the fact that I have to not refinance for a while. To me it is open season if it doesn't say anything in the contract.
  • loupieloupie Member Posts: 17
    billsbuddie,

I just bought a 2004 wagon with Sport package and 5-speed automatic. It had a sticker price of 24,451. The advertised price in the Washington Post last Sunday was 15,993, excluding freight. The total discount was 8,000 from sticker, including all incentives and dealer discounts. This should give you a good target price. The dealer I'd bought my 2003 6 from couldn't match this price; they said the selling dealer was taking a loss. So be it - they do this sometimes for the sake of getting people into the showroom.
  • mitchjackmitchjack Member Posts: 2
billsbuddie: $6,000 off 04 MSRP's is not unreasonable, if you include the $3,000 Mazda-sponsored cash rebate to dealers; and also the $1,000 additional rebate for financing through Mazda (which you can pay off at will without penalty). That's about the deal I got two weeks ago. You should be looking at $18,000 or so for a Mazda6 "s" with basic sports package, or a little more if other options are incldued, But nothing anywhere near $25,000 (or even $20,000 unless the car is loaded). Good luck. Mitchjack

    Loupie and Mitchjack:

Thanks for your input. I have been finding prices that are about $6000 off of MSRP. I started out looking at 05 Mazda 3s and sort of switched after I drove a 6. Anyone else have any recent experience I am sure several of us could benefit from it. I am now planning on waiting until the 31st to try to close the deal. The only problem that I may have is if they sell the car I am interested in. As they say, "when they are gone they are gone".
  • escortownerescortowner Member Posts: 132
That is the problem I came into when I bought one....they sold the one I REALLY wanted, and there was only one left that I pretty much wanted (different interior color) - so I figured I should get it now, instead of trying to save another $200 or so, or I would end up with one that had completely different options on it...
  • billsbuddiebillsbuddie Member Posts: 41
I am replying to my own message with an update. The final offer was actually $6000 off of INVOICE not MSRP on an 04 Mazda 6. I did not "do the deal" because the 6 is actually more car than I wanted. It is difficult to accept that the larger more expensive car actully can cost less to buy. If anyone is interested in this car now is surely the time to make a great deal

I'm in the Wash. D.C. area and a dealer is offering me $21K including taxes, tags, etc. for a new 2004 V-6 hatchback, automatic, Bose CD changer, sunroof, and side air bags (no luxury package). My original plan was to by used, as I would rather let someone else take the first year depreciation hit, but the used V-6 market is pretty thin here. So, should I take the deal or wait for some good useds to come onto the market? Thankfully, my '94 Altima w/ 100k miles is holding up ok, but it's time for something newer.

    Thanks,

    Alisha
  • escortownerescortowner Member Posts: 132
You are right about the market being pretty thin on used v6 models. I am in the Houston area and I found that I was able to get a BETTER deal for a new 2004 than a used 2004 right now. Anyone that gets one used isn't able to offer the $4,000+ rebates that the new dealers are getting.

THat seems like a fair deal to me. I got mine for about $17,000 without any options but the Sports package, but I had a trade in, so my sales taxes were only $250 - I would imagine you are paying closer to $1200 in sales tax. So, in essence it seems like you are paying about $3,000 for all of those options.....I think each of those options is something like....$700 H/B + $700 Auto + $550 Bose + $550 Moonroof + $450 Airbags = $2950.....
  • escortownerescortowner Member Posts: 132
To amend my statement earlier...I bought mine about 2 weeks ago, so assuming the incentives havne't changed since then, it is a decent deal to me.
  • carshopper8carshopper8 Member Posts: 3
My Mazda 6 sport wagon, bought Saturday. Gorgeous. Loaded - Bose, leather, moonroof, supplemental air bags (still an option on 04's), etc. With the $4,000 year-end rebate, $7,331 below sticker MSRP. As far as I can tell, approximately $5,086 off the invoice! Ended up NOT using S-Plan, as my price was better (just about $20,000). The 2004s left in Cleveland, OH area are loaded, and dealers are anxious after the bad weather in January! I'm watching for the police in my rearview - I feel like I stole it!! ZOOM ZOOM

Hi everyone, i am new to this board but highly interested in buying a 6. I was wondering what a good price would be (OTD) for a Mazda 6i in Honolulu, Hawaii? Also i want it to be 5-Speed preferably, the 5-Door one, and also the body kits i seen that come with it. So please post anything that would be helpful. Also are there any deals right now, like rebates and stuff like that? Thanks in advance.
  • mslishmslish Member Posts: 4
Well, I bit the bullet and bought the new car, even though it goes against all my principles about how wasteful new cars are...but the new car smell is nice. :)

$21,300 OTD price for V-6 hatchback, auto, Bose, sunroof, deflector, auto dim/compass mirror, side airbags, and wheel locks. With the $3,000 rebate + $1,000 financing rebate (I plan to refinance immediately at lower credit union rate), I figure I paid about $100 over invoice. I had a tough time even finding '04s in the DC metro area, so I guess this wasn't too bad a deal.

I'm very close to buying a new 04 sport wagon GS with AT and a sport package. I thought I had a fairly good price but am now starting to wonder when I see what they are going for in the states. Does anyone know what the canadian (Edmonton Alberta) invoice price for this vehicle would be and how much I could reasonably expect to pay below that? That is, what sort of manufacturers rebates are canadian delaers getting for these vehicles?
  • gosoxgosox Member Posts: 12
I have an e-mail offer from a dealer about 1 1/2 hours from me (I'm in eastern MA, the dealer is in Central MA) for a 2004 6 Wagon, 5 speed manual and only the Sport package and LEV emissions for $16,499 (MSRP is $23,615). I'm currently in the process of verifying if this includes the destination charge. If it does include it, this seems like a screaming deal, but with all of the dealer cash and rebates out there I still wonder if it could be beat. What do you all think?
  • audia8qaudia8q Member Posts: 3,138
I think know the car your talking about.(steel gray?)..do you qualify for any special incentives like college grad? owner loyalty coupon? you including a trade in in that number?

if you dont have any special incentives...I would be suspect of the price you were offered.
  • gosoxgosox Member Posts: 12
    Yes, it is Steel Gray!

I have no other incentives such as those you mentioned. I did confirm with the dealer that the quote includes destination but not the $134 doc fee.

They are aware now that I have a possible trade, but the price was quoted before I mentioned that I had one.

It's a great deal, go for it...but it might be too good.
  • gosoxgosox Member Posts: 12
It does seem like quite a deal the more I look at it. Since you're familiar with the car, are you familiar with this dealer? If so, should I be concerned?
