Hi Michael what is current money factor and residual for 2016 MDX with tech and accuwatch package for Miami Florida (33178)? They originally quoted me .00063/59% for 36 months/12K. I think I can do better on the residual.

I am working on invoice price but this is the structure.

MSRP - $48,210 ($920 fee included)
Invoice - $46,025 (based on research) How much below do you think I can go?
MF - .00063
Residual - 59%
Florida tax - 7%
36 months/12K
No money down

Standard fees for tax tag title separate and will be paid at signing which amount to $1,395.47 and is composed of $798 dealer fee, $325 tag, $135 filing, tax. Going to negotiate dealer fee of $798 out or down. If i cant I will try and have them subtract from invoice since I pay taxes on that portion.

I confirm the 59% residual and .00063 MF. Residual is set by the bank and cannot be modified.

I get the same payment the dealer does ($572.75) with those numbers.

I don't track selling prices, so can't tell you if you have any more room to negotiate the price down.

The dealer fees in FL are a killer, for sure.

I'm new to this and feel a bit stuck. I am trying to lease a 2016 MDX SH-AWD with Tech and have two dealers competing- currently the lowest is $45,500 based off of $50,210 MSRP. MF is .00063 and Residual is 59%. I live in NYC and am working with NJ dealers. Lease term is 3yrs/36K miles.

1) What should my monthly payment be based off these numbers?

How do I get the dealer to tell me what the fees will be? There was a $300 govt fee listed on the offer sheet and also a $395 doc fee. What is a "government fee"? For NYS legally the "doc" limit fee can be no more than $75 so that will be adjusted.

2) What is my next step now that I'm in the price ballpark I want ($45,200-45,500)...

Ask the dealer what you want to know. $300 is probably the registration fee for NJ.. That may be different for NY. Since you are in NJ, they aren't limited by NYS doc fee regulations. Don't expect an adjustment.

2) Get a detailed offer, with all of the numbers you want. If they won't give that to you, find another dealer. Once you have a detailed offer, then you can offer less, knowing what you are working with.

5) Tax: $1646.31

I am rolling the tax into the lease, so cost is $45,600+$1646.31= $47,246.31

Dealer tells me my monthly payments are: $558.68 after putting $1084.68 down (259+267+558.68)

Do those numbers seem correct?

Can I ask the dealer to email me an offer with ALL the fees listed? Will they do that? Am I still going to get the hard sell when I show up at the dealership?

Also, there is no mention of a "bank fee." The other dealer who has yet to give me numbers said I will have first month, bank fee, and doc fee as an upfront payment... Am I missing something as one has DMV fee and one has a bank fee, but neither have the same 3 fees?

With those numbers, the payment would be $538/mo. That looks pretty detailed except for the exclusion of the acquisition fee. Add that in and the numbers should even out.

The next step is to ask for a lower price. You can usually find out pretty quick if that's possible.

The first dealer I visited, asked me a seemingly innocent question after the test drive which was, "How much do I think I might want to put down?" I shrugged and answered probably around $1500 (This is my first lease and I thought I shouldn't put much down but a little should be ok). I now realize that giving them a figure is giving them room to manipulate their fees/your money. I have asked this dealer since that meeting to please breakdown for me exactly what the fees are twice (both times he has deflected). I was given a printed up piece of paper with some of the lease numbers when i left the dealership, but only a $395 doc fee and a $300 gov't fee was listed. I don't know what a "gov't fee" is and can't really find anything definitive in my searching. So there are $695 in fees listed and when I asked him to be specific about all the fees in an email i sent, he responded, "Don't you remember the sheet I gave you? You monthly payments are $550/month with $1500 down."

We had already negotiated a $45,500 final price for a lunar silver/ebony MDX AWD with Tech. So what I am guessing is that my $1500 covers all the fees plus some and he doesn't want to break it down anymore because it will cut into his profit. It's annoying!
So...

1) What are "government fees"?
2) What exactly are the fees I should be paying upfront? Besides taxes (which I'm rolling into the lease), There's DMV fees (which cover title and license and anything else?), there's a bank/acquisition fee, and a doc fee. Are there any others I need to know about?
3) Should I walk away from this dealer or is $1500 down and $550/mos a good price on this lease (3yrs/36K) and whatever extra he is keeping for himself nominal and just the cost of doing business in this seemingly shady industry?
4) Does his $550 monthly number seem accurate with a $45,500 sale price, .59 reside, .00063 MF, 8.875 NYS tax, and a $50,210 MSRP?

1. I would think the "gov't fees" include the tags or license cost
2. DMV, bank and doc fees are the most common
3. Probably - see #4
4. With those numbers, I get about $532/mo - pretty close to the dealer quote, but there may be some things hidden. Ask the dealer what the 'net cap cost' is - it should be the selling price plus the up front taxes. If it's more than that, find out what else has been added.

Could you guys please check the numbers and let me know if they are correct?

1) MSRP: 50,210
2) Sale price: $45,500
3) Doc fee: $259

7) Residual: 59%

I am rolling the taxes into the lease and paying the fees upfront. So 259+267+595+538.47= $1659.47 down.

Are the taxes right?

Dealer is saying $538.47 as a monthly payment. Does that sound correct?

And could you give me the monthly payment numbers if I ran the fees into the lease?

I get that payment, to the penny. 

Adding the the fees to the cap cost will increase your payment $46/mo.

Yes I test drove mine on saturday and signed the lease a few minutes later. All my numbers from my research and getting advice on here matched up with theirs! Thanks again for all your help, I couldn't have felt better and more sure about a purchase.

That disposition fee is a tough one to get out of Ive read.

Nice deal. You can't negotiate the disposition fee, but it's usually waived if you lease another one of the same make.

Leased my SH-AWD with Tech MDX today. 3yrs/36K. Paid first month and rolled everything else into lease. Monthly payment = $571.98. Live in NYC and used a dealer in NJ. I'm very happy with how everything went (especially the dealer I ended up using- no pressure, no hard sell at the end or anything) and owe a lot of it to these boards, especially kyfdx and michaell. Thanks so much!
