The Aveo or any other car as a value edition comes with a radio standard.

I think the Aveo5 is a nice looking car,but radio or not,it's not worth $2,000 more than a stripped Versa.

I suspect this is an example of GM "old think"...since gas had shot up,raise the price of the gas sippers.....Meanwhile, Nissan finds a way to lower a Versa by $3,000....No matter how stripped this $10,000 Versa may be,it still is a great value...

GM is alot like Microsoft, they can't turn on a dime - in a few model years we'll see GM's answer to the 10K Versa (201x ?) ;)

They used to have a value model priced at $9,900 or something like that. The Hyundai is the least expensive now.
  • Well I bought one, 2007, and drove many many miles in the two years--70K

You have to change timing belt @ only 60,000--$400 from dealer cost me $40 for Gates belt & 2 hr work. If you don't no motor warranty on belt break and it's an interference motor.

Cooling fan shroud wears through radiator you need to add washers and padding if you don't $600 dealer fix after it fails and it will ! I got after market radiator for $124

Went through 2 front wheel bearings--100,000 warranty covered both.

If you air bag light comes on its the side air bag plugs under the seat wiggling loose. Push them together light will clear it self no need for scanner to clear codes.

The dealers put GM power steering fluid in and it will leak and make noise some day. They were supposed to use Dextron VI--works much better. You can't mix them.

Seats are made for 100 pounders will rip if your 200 plus.

Stock tires mega suck, you wont believe how much quieter and smoother it drives on $500 worth of tires

It drives as nice as it did when new and I don't think it's all that bad, realizing it's not a VW Golf but dose not cost $16,000 ether. A little buzzy @ high speeds 75+

    I got 36+ mpg on hwy 65-70

Use KN oil filters with the 1 inch wrench thing on the end. They are easy to change from top. Run 5-30 Mobile one synthetic. Starts great @ -20 F

There is a cabin filter that filters the air coming out the heater blower motor under the glove box which just pops off--change it. Google for one $46 from GM.

Car is very easy to work on all kinds of room under the hood @ other areas.

Hopefully I'll get another 70K out of it with little trouble.

It's hard to say. There are three versions of this car with one being SUV like. I believe this is a smaller car in the micro car size.

That car (the Spark) looks small, like a 4-door Smart car, with no trunk space. I like my roomy Aveo hatchback with adaquate trunk space.

The Versa hatchback loaded, costs more than the Aveo hatchback, and the Aveo has a moonroof.

The Spark is supposedly a hatchback, so yes no trunk space (grin) - the Aveo has a (OEM or aftermarket) moonroof (big grin) ?
  • I have a 2004 Chevy Aveo Hatchback. Today my temperature gauge stopped working and there was no heat blowing either. I live in Calgary, and it was appx. -22C today, but it normally takes about 10min for the car to heat up. After driving for 45min today, I still had no heat. I am clueless about cars - Anybody got any suggestions as to what I might need to look into? I don't want to get ripped off by the dealership.

check that your engine coolant is topped up. i have a 2007 aveo5 hatchback and had heating problems, and finally noticed the temp gauge had shifted. i checked the engine coolant level and found it below 'min'. i topped it up with the prescribed 'dex cool' (50% water/etc) and heater has worked great since. mechanic says the engine coolant system is more tied in with the heating system than the air conditioning. strange 2 me but i'm no mechanic. had the mechanic check the engine coolant system with no pressure problems? now i just check/top it everytime i fill it up. wondered how it uses/loses the coolant till i noticed a lot of cars in traffic pour lots of 'water'/liquid out their tailpipes...guess this is where it's going..other than a few other problems covered by warranty i am continuing to enjoy the car...
  • I had the very same problem. Heat did not work and I noticed the car was running a little on the hot side so I checked by coolant. It was low and I had to add some to get it up to the right level. I check it more often now and found that I have to add some about once every 2-3 months. I don't know if it evaporates or if it goes out the tailpipe like you said but adding a little when it gets low seems to solve the issue. Other than that, no problems and love my car. BTW, I have a 2007 hatchback and LOVE IT (so far).
  • Thanks for your responses. I will start with a coolant check/top up and go from there. Hopefully that solves my problem. The car is not running hot...I don't think -> cause the gauge does not move, so, can't really tell. lol.
I will write back and give some feedback as soon as I give that a shot.
  • Sorry this has nothing to do with your post, but I seen in another post you offered to sell your stock radio to someone. If its a double din let me know at thanks.

I am surprised that you did not know the Aveo has an OEM moonroof.
  • Thanks for your suggestion on simply adding some coolant. The coolant was slightly below the min. level, The mechanic said that sometimes a air-bubble can get into the systems and cause it to malfunction. He added the coolant, and revved the engine with the lid off the coolant reservoir for about 5min. And there we go > heat! Awesome really....considering it has been -38C here the last few days. Having no heat really wasn't an option.

The antenna on the 2006 was a bit crappy. I just changed it.
  • We chose to buy this car for our daughter to use over the next 5 years. Own a 5 year old Honda, Altima and 3 year old Corolla but decided to keep the profits in the US, even if this one was made in Korea. New ones will be made in Canada and Mexico, and I would rather support those economies. I'm much more interested in where things are made now.

I know what you mean. The Aveo may not be an American made car but the company that sells it stands to profit and that is an American company, unlike Toyota where they take their money and bank it back home in Japan.

It's interesting of the millions of American citizens who never think of who they support when they purchase a high dollar item like a car. That is why they say especially the new generation of people only care about themselves, etc.
  • I have a 2009 Aveo5 2LT. Is there a way to disable the horn honk when locking the doors with the keyless remote? This is really annoying. Just the lights flashing like my Yaris does is just fine. Thanks.
