  • not sure about the pricing tho checking it against carsdirect is a decent indicator...but just curious, they are offerring laminated windows again? That wasn't an option for the 06...is that factory installed option or can the dealer put it in? I'd really like to do it on my 06 s40 2.4i...ideas on cost?

I'm looking at a special order on a 2007. The list price for laminated windows is $300.
  • I just got a quote for everything I wanted in my previous post, plus Medea wheels.

    $32,480. :)

Does anyone have any experiences purchasing in the Boston area?

Also seems like a lot of people are going with the T5, but can anyone share any pricing experiences on teh 2.4i? Thanks!

I'm as much pro S40 as anyone else on this forum is but I have to be honest. If you have the funds to plunk down 31-32 grand for a volvo......look at the BMW 3series. I was barely able to pay 21060 for my 2006 2.4i and darn happy I did I might add. It kind of gets me that I here some of you waggle around and ask I 32,000 is good for a S40 T5 awd...my answer is no when that price puts you in 325xi range. I love my car and figure it's a great, great bargain considering a base 325 would go about 31 or 32 for me. I think 21000 thousand is a phenomenal price for a Swedish engineered, Belgium built sports sedan when identically equipped VW's are being built in freakin' Mexico.

Did you guys know that the rear seat room in the s40 and xc90 is almost identical. just thought i'd throw that one out there .

On a more serious note guys...I have a 7 yr old and a 13 mth old. Do you all think for children that age that an S40 will serve as an adeqaute FAM hauler for the next few years. I know I should post this on the ordinary S40 page , but it's too late and I don't feel like writing this over. BTW I have an CRV also

My wife and I looked at a BMW 325xi similarly equipped as the Volvo. First, we didn't like it especially the set-up of the interior and more importantly, it was pushing $40K instead of just over $31K.
  • mrrk47mrrk47 Posts: 104
Well okay, maybe the xi is pushing 40k. I know the base 325 is around that range...maybe not as eqipped but it's still a BMW....well in that case I know A4's are going for about 31k right now. My point is and mindset is to get the best car you can afford. The S40 is an awesome car for 21-24k, but not too awesome for 31-32k.
  • I purchased an '06 demo T5 AWD with climate, premium, and geartronic. It had 9700 miles on it. Got it for $23,300, which I'm fairly confident was a great deal, but obviously not confident enough.
  • GREAT DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!! =) no need to 2nd guess
  • Thanks for the reassurance. The whole process just hasn't been as smooth as I had hoped, so I keep wondering if I made a mistake. The Volvo buying part was easy, but the selling of my previous car has not been.

What were they asking for originally for the car? It's a great deal any way you cut it , but if you haggled more off then it's really great. To basically get the top of the line model with a "few" miles on it for that price is great.
  • They were originally asking $26,900++, so I haggled them down. After talking back and forth for awhile I finally said I'd do it if they could get me out the door, tax and everything, for $25,500. If I could do it again I'd try to get them to throw in tint.
  • There's two Volvo dealerships here in Sacramento. I've been dealing with one. I'm looking for a base S40 2.4i with Manual Trans (this is a must) and he offered me one for $19,995.

I refused to go in as I was showing strong interest in the body kit which I believe is $1400... no? I did a little bit of bending the truth. I told this dealership that the OTHER one is offering me the same price on one, but they're including the body kit.

He told me he'd match it but it would come unpainted.
Does this sound like a good deal?
  • I've been discussing with a dealer over an a 2006 white s40 2.4 w/ leather seats and an MSRP of $25,935.00. He said the lowest he can give it to me for is $21,860.00. Now after reading some of the posts on this board I feel it can much lower. Considering its September what is a good price for me to try and get?
  • The invoice on that S40 would be about $21,500 (just leather not the premium package.) Considering that this is a 2006 already built and on the lot, I would think that you can get a little more off of that price depending on how bad the dealer wants to move it to get to the 2007 models.

Wow! I thought I was cheap. I can't really blame you for trying to get them by the nuts, on second thought go for it! They are offering you 4075.00 off MSRP, I got 5400.00 off, that doesn't mean everyone can get it , heck I wanted 6,000 off because I read on here that someone else got it. I say keep trying for at least 5,000, but then you have to be able to see the writing on the wall and tell that he can't go any lower. Is it an auto?

SOrry , you posted it was a manual trans...oops
  • I'm thinking about purchasing S40, 2007 model costs more than 2006.
    Are there any differences ?
  • Can anyone tell me what is the best lease I can get on the 2006 S40, No money down on a 36 month. I will take the basic just want a low monthly.
Also the same on the X90, a friend got $550 per month no money down, can I do better?
  • I just bought a 2206 s40 2,4I with auto, lthr,premium & climate for $5400 less than MSRP.....still wonder if I should have soent the xtra$ in the T5

Wow, what NBA team did you sign with....2 volvos !!!(at the same time!)
  • I like the laminated windows and the dual booster cushions seats. However, I was told by my dealer that these are no longer offered for the 2007 S40 models. I am curious which dealer you are using. Thanks.
  • When I contacted a stateside dealer, I was told the same thing. However, I placed a special order overseas and it is on my purchase order. I don't know where the difference is but will be sure to take a copy of my purchase order when I go to the factory in Sweden in November to pick it up to ensure that it has everything on it.
  • dobrovod, are you doing the Overseas Delivery method? I having been looking into that and trying to figure out if it is worth it. If you wouldn't mind sharing, can you advise on how the pricing works with that? I'm just wondering if you found you are getting a better price by doing overseas delivery. It seems like there are a lot of people on here saying they are getting around 4-5000 off MSRP through US dealerships and the overseas program you get 8% off MSRP right? Sounds like a great experience and I was planning on being in Europe within the next few months but if I was saving a few 1000 by buying it in the US I'd probably just get it here. Do they give you any bartering room or do you basically just take the base price add all your features in and that is the price? Also, not sure if you have a trade in but I'm just wondering if they allow you to keep your car until you actually get delivery of the car (since it takes 5-6 wks, I'm in Boston) and then trade your car in when you get the Volvo?

For pricing information, go to www.flyvolvo.com - they do lots of overseas deliveries.

You get about 8% off the base MSRP and pay MSRP for your options. Volvo also throws in 2 tix to Sweden and one night's stay. You cannot negotiate a better price as the dealer gets a flat amount from Volvo for processing the order.

You typically can do better buying locally due to incentives unless you really want to take the trip to Europe. Also, you have to pay for your vehicle before you go and pick it up. So you'll be making payments on a vehicle you may not drive for a couple of months.

As for your trade, it's up to the dealer. Some might give you an amount today less an allowance for so many miles. Some might want it today. Some may not want to value it until you actually trade.

    Good Luck.
  • Thanks robr2. Seems like I'm probably better off getting it locally but thanks for the explaination!

    You're welcome.

My wife and I hope to do the Euro Delivery some day. It may not be cheaper but it's an incentive to go there.
  • I am interested in a 2007 S40 T5 and have located one with the Premium and Audio packages, Sirius radio, Bluetooth option, Sagitta wheels, and metallic paint. The MSRP is $34,160 and the dealer has given me a price of $ 29,796.00.
Is this a good price for such a car purchased in California? This is a big investment for me and I want to be sure to get the best deal possible. I am willing to contact out of state dealers, as well. Thanks for the help!
