Mitsubishi Eclipse - 2006 and Newer

  • I seem to have a similar problem hearing the motor.. seems sometimes I'm enjoying the sound of drive and other times it catches my attention as being noisy. I've especially noticed, thanks to a friend of mine for bringing it up!, that it seems there's a leak in weather stripping a window is open?
But my main reason for jumping in is this: a sound I will never forget and certainly sounds a lot like "motor noise" - I had a wheel bearing needing to be replaced. Could that possibly be the issue? THAT was a noise you couldn't drown out.
  • I have the 06 gt and its a special pearsceant color. And the paint chipped on the front bumper and the rear bumper. Not on the flat places but where the bumpers curve
  • I have owned my 2007 Spyder for 2 yrs now and I still smile everytime I turn her on!
I have had no problems whatsoever with this car,and that includes winter driving in New England. The car was a 50th birthday present from my entire family and she has brought me a great deal of joy. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a sporty convertible with lots of cool options. Mine is the Still Blue color which was only run during the 07 production year, so I have only seen one other one like her in the 2 years I have been driving her.I wasn't sure I would get much top down driving time in our climate, but with the heated seats I often drive her top down into the I will today since its going to be 68 degrees this afternoon! :shades:
  • i just got my GT last month. Runs great. My only concern is the front lamp, its only light up 10 feet on front of the car, makes me turn on high beam all of time when i am driving at night.
Anyone has the same problem? Anyone knows how to fix it?

"...its only light up 10 feet on front of the car..."

The Eclipse is fairly low to the ground so it may seem that the headlights don't reach that far out. What did you drive before? A SUV for example would have better throw because it's up higher.

That makes me think, the 2009s have new HID headlights which are supose to be brighter. Anyone know if you can put HID or halogen bulbs in the '06-'08 models?

  • Anyone out there ever put tire chains on their Eclipse? Owner's manual for the 2006 says you can't use them but I'm going to be in ski area and may need them to travel. Please advise if you have used the chains and, if so, how they worked.

"...ever put tire chains on their Eclipse?..."

If the owner's manual says no I wouldn't do it. Might void your warranty. Besides, would you ever forgive yourself if your chains threw a link and you had to listen to it banging up your nice ride?

If you really HAVE TO put chains on I would call your dealer service tech and ask why the manual says not to. Might save you some trouble. There's plenty of clearance in those wheel wells so I don't know why chains wouldn't fit.

My advice is to rent an allwheel drive car for the trip, the eclipse sucks in the snow! It's a warm weather car/

"...paint is chip'n off rear bumper under hatch..."

Is that on the plastic bumper or the metal? That sucks that the dealer won't stand up. What's his excuse? :(

We own a 2003 and 2007 mits eclipse spyders. Anyone know anything about cabin air filters? Where are they located in these two cars and how often should they be changed?

I know on older Eclipse/Spyders it is located behind the glovebox. You will see the fan blower from underneath. I Don't know if there is a recommended mileage. It probably depends on your climate and how many hours you run the blower which I know I'm not keeping track of.

Here is a link showing replacement filters/options:

Here is a link showing it done on a 2000 with pictures:

YAY! warm weather. Finally got to put the top down today :)

  • Got the Sun-n-Sound pkg. on my 2009 GS with Rockford/Fosgate, Sirius, 6-CD in-dash changer, subwoofer in trunk... NICE, but really wish satellite radio display would show artist/song title. Called Sirius, Mitsubishi, even R/F. Was told by local dealer that artist/song title will not display on Sirius satellite radio in certain '09 Mitsubishi models b/c they have the old analog type satellite receivers (due to space constraints in dash) instead of digital receivers. (One step forward, two steps back).

Anyone know if this is accurate info? I just want my artist/song titles!

I know it sucks but you won't get the info....I was surprised when I got my 08 GS that it did'nt show it too
  • Happy holidays everyone,

My daughter have requested for a Mitsubishi Eclipse for about two years. She will have her license next year. So, I'm going to shop a Mitsubishi Eclipse for her pretty soon.

I was told there are some "issues" with certain model of the Eclipses.

Which year and model you guys recommand? Any safety related options that I should get for her (We live in NY, lots of snow)

    Thanks a lot

"...I was told there are some "issues" with certain model..."

I'm not sue what issues you are referring to; performance, safety, reliability?

I have a 2008 GT and it has given me flawless service. The Eclipse has been slammed by the auto press as not being a "true sports car" but that seems to be a matter of prefference. The Eclipse won't handle like a BMW but why would you expect a $20K car to do that?

The GT suffers from some torque steer when you really push it but you'd be crazy to give a car that fast to a new teen driver. The GS has enough power for a new driver and handles as well as any modern car.

The only thing I might worry about is the lack of good rear visability due to the fastback styling. Like many sporty cars the Eclipse is a littly tricky backing up.

Post 2009 model came with stability control as well as traction control which could help NY winter driving.

Wish I had traction control, the winters really suck in NYC, I don't even take it out when it snows. I selling my 08 GS w 22k miles, love the car but i've gotta get AWD car, I go back and forth to PA & Long Island and if there's snow in the forcast the car does'nt go! A great deal for someone, $12 with 22k miles and 38k left on warranty!!!!!! Have'nt been able to sell it for 4 months,I don't get. Getting 28mpg with 2.4, only issue has been that the car takes forever to warm up in the cold, talking 20 mins at 30 degrees and dealer has'nt found anything wrong!Needle does'nt even make it to half way, just little below the middle mark. Have you herd of this?

okay so heres the deal ..I bought the first 2006 sunset pearlescent in our area..straight off the truck.June 2005..about 5 months ago the clearcoat on top of the car started to fail and is failing fast all over the car now..also had some fading on the rear trunk area..but having been in the retail paint for 25 years..assumed it was the color as some colors are more apt to accepted the fading paint and still got compliments on the I have 8-9" areas..more than one and other spots all over the car that are just coming off ..appearing more and more..had heard mitsi had had problems with paint failure and had settled a lot of cases..and I had read some of them were sunset..called dealership..they said they don't deal with them anymore
and gave me number of company..which virtually told me the problem was with the black cars and I was told them since they weren't cooperating how do I go about getting something started..all they said was they would note my problem..wondering if other people had this problem..only other complaint is my driver window has a scratch from raising and lowering it and they told me that was just something that happens with them and was to be expected..would appreciate your thoughts..

My paint is fine but I have Rave red and I keep mine in the garage. It is out in the summer sun at work all day so I don't know what to tell you. Yes I've heard stories of the black cars having clearcoat problems but I've seen black cars of many brands do the same.

There are some stories on the net about the previous generation having problems with clearcoat failure, especially on the black ones.

That's a shame that the dealer is giving you a run around.

Appreciate the input..I had a red 2000 eclipse that I traded in for this one and the paint held up good..everybody loved that one also..this one held up until the paint warranty was gone and then failed..was thinking it was something I had done until my son told me about the other cases and I did some research.anyhow my next step is that I have a new paint rep that used to be on the automotive side and is bringing a mil gauge next trip here..said sounds like skimped on the paint..anyhow wish me luck
