2003 silverado 5.3 v8 - At about 1800 to 2100 rpm, a high pitched chirp sound is heard. Sounds like a muffled telephone ringing. Goes away over 2000 rpm. 97000 miles. not heard below 1800rpm.
  • in front end of my 1998 gmc 2500 4x4 have a bad roar in front end i have already replace pittman arm, both hubs what is the problem please some one help been to two diffrent places no mechanic can find the problem
  • i had same problem on my 2008 Gmc Sierra. Ended up being cv shaft was snapped. I started to noticed it when backing up and turning either way i'd get a knock. and then it eventually got to the point when i would be pulling into a parking spot.
  • Hi, I have a Silverado 2500HD Truck. I recently encountered a problem with my truck. I will be driving down the highway and as soon as I reach 50 mph my truck begins to shake. I took it to get the tires checked but they said tires good. Then i took it to get it check by mechanic he said I had error codes saying their was a misfire on cylinder 6, 7, 8. I replaced all the spark plugs and wires but continue to have the same problems. Now the mechanic says It can be several things but we wont know until he replaces each thing. I read several people with the same issue. Has anyone solved it?? I would appreciate any advise.

    Hi,

    I have a 2003 chevy silverado1500 ,

I have a pop/ kock noise in the dr side weel when i come to a stop. i jacked up the frount of the truck and found out that my inter tie rods had some play in them so i replaced my inter and outer one on the left and right side, figerd that would fix it , it fixed the noise that i had when i turnd, but not when i brake, i can make it do it when i stop hard or if i hold the brake all the way down and put it in drive or to back up and give it a lot of gas it will do it one time, then if i swich gears and do the same it will do it then , but it dose it every time i stop hard, i can feel it in the floor or brake when it dose it and i can hear it over the radio as well. i checked to see if i had play up and down on the weel and it did not feel that it did. as if a ball jont would be bad, dose any one have a clue as to what it mite be?
    Thanks Dan

I have a 2001 chevy silverado 1500 LS. I was driving uphill one day and my truck was losing power and was not shifting to 3rd gear. At that time, a loud and schreeching noise came from the undercarriage. Thats when the truck stalled on the hill and died out. I restarted the truck again, it starts up and idles for a bit but then dies out. My truck was towed back to the house for further review. I used a GM scantool to scan for error codes. The codes that pulled up were p0300, P0101, and P0135. I know the meaning for all of these codes and replace everything except p0300. The scantool also showed 1, 3, 5, 7 of the enigine side was not responding. I was told it could be the catalytic converter. Where do I begin with this? I am not looking for the "quick" fix, but just the right fix. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi We have almost the same problem, except we are eating mid-grade life time brakes within 9 months to a year,we changed rotors and brakes and now the noise is worse then ever, My brother said he had the same problem and it was the hub,and that the axle can slip right out, we are going to the chev dealer Wednesday, and will now then, wish me luck, If you have found out anything differnt please let me know/ thanks

Hello, sorry to interrupt the thread...my issue started 1 week ago with vibration/growling noises at about 10 mph as I let the gas go and almost stopping. Thought it was a heat shield but no go. This week it has become louder and happens at 40 mph. Also when I turn off the engine, it does a "clunk" noise. When I take it to an auto shop - murphy's law - the vibration is not as loud so the mechanics can't really hear it. They also said the "clunk" noise is normal. I don't think so! The truck has 78K and has always been taken care of. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks so much! S.
  • I TOO HAVE A NOISEY 6 SPEED THAT I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED IF I KNEW THIS WAS THE DESIGN .My truck downshifts when i slow and each gear it clanks and pops from the driveline, and of course when you are on/off the gas at any speed and it leaped forward when i came to a stop twice like it was stuck in 2nd-it downshifted into 1st and it gave itself throttle!!!,I almost rearended someone. My first brand new vehicle and I cant stand rattles and noises,I have owned a 90&97 which had some play in the suspension/driveline after many miles ,but this truck is literally driving me nuts. Took it to 4 dealers and nothing, they are all deaf and the sounds I hear are normal and thats the charictaristics of the 6 speed.I'm pissed because it started around 400 miles and I called and took it in,"its learning-keep driving" so I drove. Another 3k and its still banging away, bring it in and the same answer, keep driving. Then after 6k another dealer, same and the 4th was back to where I purchased it , now she is pushing 10k. We dont hear anything, normal charictaristics, so I went into the showroom to see what I will get for it,what a loss. The salesman had no interest in helping me, but bending me over on a 4.8 model without the 6 speed,he said he needed to call Ally to see what I owed to make a "fair"deal??just tell me what you will give me and how much for this one, not what kinda payment are you looking for-sir.I gave the guy me info to make him happy ,then he adds $500 on to what I owe because I gave him a estimate ,I went online on my phone while he called!! I called customer service and went back and forth to get at least some kind of Xtra compensation on a trade above bluebook considering they told me to keep driving,it will go away and it has severly depreciated. Customer service reply---sorry,we dont warranty noises

Hi folks, I had a bad grinding noise in my transfer case. I brought it in and they said the TC is shot. The local gm dealer found one and I had it installed a lone with a front ujoint and yoke.. The original unit was np261hd the reman unit only has a gm part number on it 24228435 and when I searched the number it comes up with nv261. I would think there still the same though new venture or new prosess...Now I have a hum-vibration right at 60 then it kinda goes away then at 70-75 it get real bad. I can feel the hum/vibration through the floor board steering wheel seat, it like sitting in one of them vibarating chairs at the mall :-)... Im thinking the driveshaft might be un-balanced....
Has anyone been through this ??
  • I have a 02 Silverado that has 151,000 and does the same thing. It is a defect
in the skirt piston length, and over time it builds up carbon on pistons.

It sound like a knock and tick on start up on cold mornings. No harm donel

Run 5-30, quiets it down, if your really want to go to all the effort, pull the spark plugs, put Sea Foam down in the holes, let it soak overnight,
cold crank the engine a few times to push the foam out, put the plugs back in
It will smoke like hell. Change the oil soon after, as it may be contaminated.

Should get rid of most of the noise.

    royva,
Did the dealer perform the repair? If so, I would definitely recommend calling them and letting them know of the vibrations that were not previously there. Please keep me updated.

  • I have a 2011 Silverado and it has the same issues. I have purchased GM vehicles for over 30yrs (This is my last one !!!!!!!!!). The last GM vehicle that I had that gave me excellent service was a 1992 Silverado new $17,000 and I had it almost 10 years, purchased a 2000 Silverado new $30,000 (engine knock and cheap design),2008 Avalance new$34,000 ( cam had to be replaced @ 45,000 miles and when the transmission down shifted it felt like the rear end was moving to the front of the vehicle, 2011 Silverado ext cab new $34,000, the doors rattle, transmission does not allow you to be an easy driver it is either to slow or you have to floor it to make it move. Some of the issues GM has had them for years and they still have not improved the quaility that the customer is looking for since we paid a lot of $$$$$$$$$$ for their product. I have an old 1983 Silverado that my Dad purchased new and he gave it to me and in many ways that old body is better than a new one. I know there are issues with other trucks, but I will not take a chance on GM ever again. Spent over $90,000 in the last 10 years on junk GM vehicles!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've pretty much had it. I bought a 2010 Sierra Crew cab and within weeks the vibrations started at 65-75 MPH. The tires have been balanced 3-4 times, the alignment keeps going out, all 4 tires were completely ruined at 25k. After several alignments and tire balances, the dealer replaced the front tires with new ones but they put the old fronts on the back. Within a week I ran over a nail and brought it to NTB to fix as the dealer was closed. They said I had severe tire chop. Brought it to discount for a 2nd opinion...same thing. They both said there was something wrong with the front end. The dealer has tried and tried and gave me BS answers like.."its road noise". Truck is in the shop now and has been for 1 week. This is the 3rd GM I've bought in 4 years and I'll be going lemon law if they can't fix. I'm almost ready to got to Ford. I should not have to go through this crap for a year after spending 40k+ on a truck.

    tcritty,

My 2011 GMC Sierra 5.3 6 speed has pulled right since new (April 2011). It also has a very "choppy" ride. Selling Dealer aligned it within weeks of purchase. Still pulled.

At my expense, had a diffrent Dealer rotate and balance the tires within a few months of purchase (that was tough pill to swallow considering the truck was practically brand new).

Recently, had same Dealer align truck. No change. Truck still pulls and has a choppy ride.

District Specialist states "operating as designed!"
