Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra Climate Control

  • I forgot to mention that I did a radiator flush and I've kept checking the coolant levels and it is topped off. Still no heat coming out.
  • I'm having the same issue with my 2009 Sierra. Passenger side holds steady but the driver side keeps alternating between hot and cold on mine, even if I just have the vent on with no blower running. Sounds like the same issue you're having. Did you ever find out what it was because I'm stumped? Has to be a temp sensor somewhere that keeps triggering on and off. Do you have Dual Climate Control? Also, did the GM Rep ever get back to you?

    As your Sierra is a 2009, this may still be covered by the Bumper to Bumper warranty. We can let you know the specific parameters of your warranty if you were to send us an email with your name and the last 8 digits of your VIN.

  • I think I found out on my 06 what it was, there is a connector just below the dash (easy to get to if you don't have the full center console) next to the driver side floor vent. It was loose like someone had stepped on it or pulled at it. I disconnected it while the truck was running, made sure it was clean and then firmly reconnected it. So far heat has worked on both sides for three weeks.
  • on my 2011 Sierra 1500 crew, I have had heat distrubution problems since day one. Plugged off center vents to get more air flow on passenger side. Helped a little, seems like to much is going to defrost or vents are to small to passenger and drivers feet. Its 30 below zero here in northern Montana again, so it makes the problem very noticeable. 100 miles from dealer have'nt had time to take it in yet, purchaced in Jan now have 27000 mi on it. Unrelated problems, gravel has beat out rear back up sensors, passenger wiper leaves last three inches of windshield not cleared, and fabric on seats is impossible to get lint and hair off. Want my 06 back! I've owned GM for 35 years, currenty have 6, this has been most disappointing purchase ever.

    I am sorry that your 2011 Sierra isn't currently satisfactory for you. I see that you may be looking at taking it in to the dealership for the heat distribution concerns you described - please keep us posted on how this goes. If you are not satisfied after the visit, we'd be happy to help follow-up with you and your dealer and continue seeking to resolve it.

  • 2006 silverado..dual heat control...heater works but goes out when the truck idles for any length of time. then heats back up when the truck is back in gear heading down the road.
  • Thanks for the reply. Took vehicle in to Bennett Motors on 1/25, no problem with heater was found, they're going to look into it further next appointment. The other reason for the last visit was evap system was plugged and haven't been able to fill with gas. They ordered in canister, but forgot to order solenoid, so my day off work and a 100 mile trip was wasted, they did apologize. As you probably know this is a chronic problem with pickups and suv's forever. I've spent a 1000 dollars on my two 06 pickups for new canisters and solenoids. Van Motors in Conrad Mt has been smart enough to reroute hose to front of vehicle, so it won't plug again. Bennett told me GM is coming out with a reroute kit sometime. The other problem with rear backup sensors being beat out by gravel could not be fixed under warranty. I guess pickups are not to be driven off highway! GM really needs some protection for these sensors. Oh and windshield wiper problem, they put on new wiper and discovered it does not touch last 2-3 inches of passenger side either, so they went out to their lot and looked at other 2011's and discovered none of them touch. I can't believe I'm the first one to notice this! I hope you take this note as constructive criticism, I do like the power, the handling, and looks of my 2011 Sierra 1500 crew, and have owned GM vehicles for 30 years and would hate to switch to the F word.   • I need to know the name of the gear or part that switches the defroster to vent and so on it knocks every time i start my truck, and wont allow the heater to switch to vent from defroster or any of them just blows out the defroster vent. it knocks behind my gage cluster wear its also located.can anyone help? I have a 2003 silverado 1500 4.8L thanks Mike
  • My problem with with heat distribution is still not solved. Have heard from other owners in my community, one with a 2011 silverado, one with a 2011 yukon XL, having same problem. We discussed that unless temperature is around 0 degrees or below the problem isn't as noticeable. So vehicles sold in middle of US or in the south are not aware of problem. Apparently the system was engineered this way, not enough air velocity to floor vents and too much to defrost vents on windshield and side windows, when selector is on dual mode. On the silverado, Bell Motors in Cut Bank MT told the owner to bring it in and they would re- program the heater. I told Bennett Motors in GT. Falls about this, and the had no idea that this was possible. It will be interesting to see if Bell Motors can solve problem.
  • I have an 06 V-6 Sierra
    When I drive my truck with the recirculation button light on and my A/C button light off, I hear my A/C compressor turning off? Also when my truck is warming up in the morning in heat mode I will hear the auxiliary fans turning on and off?
    If I turn the recirculation button off ( light is off) then no compressor no auxiliary fans are kicking in? I was under the impression I could have the the recirculating switch on and the fan control on any setting and would only be circulating the cab air?

    The compressor will definitely come on if you're using the defroster, as the compressor and evaporator work to dry the air - otherwise, moist air will freeze on the inside of the windshield once it's turned off. Check your owner's manual to see if the defroster is automatically activated below certain external temperatures upon first-start./warmup.

  • I have a 2005 Silverado 4X4 Crew cab. During warm up first thing in the morning with the truck is at or about 210 degress the climate blows cold until I start driving and then blows hot air. Also at temperature stopped at traffic lights/stop signs and at iddle the climate control blows cold air, while driving I have heat.
    Further info... recent tune up less than 3500 miles, out of warranty, current mileage 87,050, 2nd owner of truck I bought it 2007 at a dealer.
    Any help would be great. I would kind of like a idea before I spend too much for mechanic's diagnosis of the complete front end. No offense to any wrenches...

    I too am having unresolved intermittent dual climate control trouble with my 2004 Silverado. Last time in the dealership they said there was a TSB released for this problem. I've been looking for it on the web but I cannot find it. If someone has it I would appreciate a copy. Thanks.

    This reply is for reteils on post #363. the info you are asking for is NHTSA #10012173/ TSB #040138008. I have replaced my instrument cluster and heater control module at my own expense due to mileage and poor timing on recalls by GM. However, I am still having the most common problem as everyone else here on the A/C unit blowing hot air on the driver side, etc.... Sounds like this has been an issue for over 10yrs now. I'm a full blown Chevyholic, but I am not impressed with these issues not being addressed in a decent amount of time. If anyone can pinpoint me an answer w/o taking my 2004 Silverado to a shop I would greatly appreciate it. All repairs have been not so cheap, but have easy so far.
  • Sounds like you might be low on coolant, which would not allow enough pressure to build up to open you thermostat to get your heater core warm enough at idle. Also you may have an air pocket caught in the system. Google how to bleed the system if your mechanically inclined enough(not saying your not) but i have ran into similar problems on my older Chevy. Plus both are pretty much cost free to check yourself which makes it even better
  • My 2000 GMC did this I could not find replacements so I simply cut away the plastic and hooked the hoses directly to the heater core. It has worked fine for several years now
