I have a 05 and the gauge has not worked for almost a year now and it only has 66k. And I did run out of gas on the interstate with my 3yr old in the car not a fun time. I have had test run on this problem but they just say it needs new sensors. I have friends and relatives with envoys and they have the same problems. Sounds like it should have been a recall.

    Hello Kreed2384,
I am from GM Customer Service. When you said you took the vehicle for a test run, did you mean that you have taken the vehicle to the dealership already? Can you please email me with more information, so I can look into this further? You can access my email by clicking on my name. Thank you,

    Mariah,
What're you doing here anyhow? Do you get paid to "Passify" everyone on any/every forum regarding a problem that should've been a RECALL to begin with? This has been an ongoing problem for 9-10 years now ...and after reading this entire thread from THE BEGINNING almost everyone has fixed this FUEL SENDER PROBLEM OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKET either from the extortionistic STEALERSHPS or like myself....ran the tank empty....jacked up the driver side of the vehicle...snapped a rusted fuel tank retaining strap, and either replaced the sender or sender and pump?
Myself being a handyman mechanic, got off easy with a $68.00 (replacement sender) and 3+ hours labor (free) of my weekend.
You are not part of the solution...you are merely a representative of the problem who has no authority to do "the right thing" and demand a RECALL.
It's nice of you to visit us and provide useless information, but IMO. you have done nothing to resolve this problem, nor have have the authority to do so.
What is your annual $$'s? I'll take job any day.
    jon

    Hi Mariah,
I am having the same issue with my 2007 Envoy gas guage. My low fuel light comes on and bings for what seems like forever. Who would I contact in Canada from GM? I assume I have to take it to the dealership again? Do you extended warranty for it to get fixed? I know it is probably be different in Canada.
    Thanks
    Jennifer

    Hello Jennifer,
You would contact this number: Customer Communication Centre:
    1-800-263-3777 (English)
    1-800-263-7854 (French)
Customer Communication Centre hours of operation are:
    Monday to Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. (E.S.T.)
    Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (E.S.T.)
    Closed Sundays
You will speak to an agent who will most likely tell you to take it to the dealership to have it diagnosed. As far as the warranty I am not familiar with how it works in Canada, unfortunately I can only assist U.S. customers with warranty questions. However, your agent should be able to address those questions with you. Thank you,

    Hello Jon,
I apologize that you take my presence here on this forum to be offensive. As you well know I cannot issue a recall simply because you request one. One of the main ways that recalls happen is by customers reporting issues. I do document those issues as I hear about them. So yes, I would like to think that I am part of the solution and not the problem. I am here to assist our customers to the best of my ability. Thank you for your comments Jon, and have a wonderful weekend.

    Hi Mariah,
Not "offensive"...just typical, rhetorical, bureaucratical "Customer Service" uselessness.

People come here to see if other's are having the same (or similar) problems ... find the answers (solutions) to their problems and to see how to go about fixing them. All this has been addressed from the beginning of this thread since i started it on Sep 24, 2006, and pretty much now the issue has been diagnosed, answered and repaired by everyone.

Now 3 1/2 years later, you chime in with "call your dealer to diagnose it"

    Your rhetorical:
"....contact this number: Customer Communication Centre:
...speak to an agent who will most likely tell you to take it to the dealership to have it diagnosed..
Have you taken the vehicle to the dealership to have it diagnosed?
...we can have one of our agents look into the situation for you. They are going to request that you take the vehicle to the dealership to have the issue diagnosed.
I will document your concern and pass that along to GM., blah, blah, blah..."

    ....is too little/too late.

I know you're just doing your job, but hands-on knowledge of this problem has already been discussed here and it is now pretty much a "dead issue".
I think your services could be used and much more useful somewhere else..... (possibly the beginning posts of a new problem in a NEW thread?)

Looks like you can add me to the list of people who have their gauge stop working. I have an 2007 Envoy with 41000 miles on it. Just filled it up from being empty and the gauge and light have not shut off. I do not want to spend hundreds on this problem since it is out of warranty and numerous people are having issues.

    Mariah,
Do you have any info. on TSB:
    #99-07-30-022A Info - Shift Stabilization and Tow/Haul Mode Feature for Hydra-Matic 4L60-E/4L65-E and 4L80-E/4L85-E Transmissions - (Jun 5, 2003) ????

I think I've narrowed an intermittent "whine" down to the Tow/Haul Mode Feature on my 2000 Envoy, VIN.- 1GKDT13WOY2234397.
If you could elaborate on this TSB #, that would be great since you might have access to inside knowledge?
    Thanks in advance,

I got online hoping to find help with my driver's side door's "power" not working and wow, I can't believe that a lot of the issues I've been having with my 06 envoy, so many others have been having. I was hoping and assuming the lack of power to the door was due to rain yesterday. No, it didn't get completely soaked but did get some light rain. Now that's the least of my worries. I, too, have been having issues with our gas gauge all of a sudden not working. Fill it up and it goes on E. Been doing this for about 3 weeks now; guess I'll try the new gas cap. Because I can assure you I will not be suckered into buying a new one when all I have to do is reset my tripometer every time I fill up; granted it's a royal pain but it beats forking over $500+ for something so many others are having issues with. And my service stabilitrack light comes on at times but goes off when I restart the truck. Man, this is very frustrating. I love my truck but after stumbling upon this site and seeing that so many are having the same issues, makes me wonder how much is just "little" things...seriously!

My 2000 Envoy door window switch had the same problem. I cleaned the switch (actually I just removed it and reinserted it) and it cured everything. Just clean the switch with some electrical contact cleaner.

thanks Jon, I'll try that. And I'm going to sound like an idiot but where would I find electrical contact cleaner? And you're talking about popping off the control panel, right? where the buttons to control everything is at, right? I popped it off last night and just let it hang, hoping it will dry, if that is the problem. But it's like my door has absolutely NO power, at all.
    Thanks again
  • jonnyringjonnyring Posts: 74
    Electrical cleaner= auto parts store/spray can..or try WD-40 first.

Yes, pop the button(s) off and spray in behind them AND where they plug into, to get a good contact. If it's gotten wet over time they tend to corrode and the connections become bad/intermittent.

Thanks Jon, I will go to autozone now and pick some up...hopefully it works :)
  • jonnyringjonnyring Posts: 74
If that doesn't work....check the fuse for the power windows. If it got wet, it could've popped the fuse. The fuse for power windows is usually a 30 amp (large ampereage), but just check your manual or the fuse location cover may tell you what each fuse is for.
  • raederzooraederzoo Posts: 4
that was the first fuse I checked, both are fine...and the electrical spray didn't do the job so I guess I need to find me a new module thing.
Thanks again for your help :)

I had no idea that the fuel gauge issue was reported by so many people, the fact that GM/GMC won't do anything to fix this issue is simply amazing!

I currently have about 53,000 miles on my GMC 2007 Envoy SLT (bought new) and for about the last 10,000 miles the gauge hasn't worked consistently. I believe that this issue started early in ownership. I have never ran out of gas on a vehicle until I owned this one. The reason I say early failure is because at about 20k miles my low fuel light came on and I figured about 1-2 gallons more of gas, at minimum 16 miles. Within 7 miles i was sitting on the side of major highway with no gas. At the time I thought it was odd but thought lesson learned and I won't wait so long to fill up, but now looking back I see that i probably had this issue from the day I bought the vehicle.. It wasn't until the last 10k miles that this has become a major issue with sensor and lights coming on.

I have contacted my local mechanic and he indicated this was a known issue at that the dealerships are uncooperative in fixing this issue even for people just out of warranty.

The total cost to fix all issues, $1,000 ($500 fuel pump, $300 throttle assembly, and $200 for dealership to re-program).

I will be putting in a complaint with NHTSA through safecar.gov. I encourage EVERYONE with this issue and others to use that site as well.

The problems I have with this NOT being a recall item:
    1. known issue affecting model years prior to 2007
    2. extreme cost
    3. *safety issue* - leaving motorists stranded on highways or even worse in the middle of highway!!
    4. *safety issue* - i have a young family and being stranded on a highway or in traffic with an empty tank of gas with two young kids, one infant and one toddler is most certainly a safety issue - one that i will not tolerate.

At this point i will pay the money to get this fixed, more so for SAFETY of my FAMILY...but i won't be buying another GMC as i have sunk more than just this in the vehicle! I suppose until someone/or family is killed this won't become a recall, and i hope this never happens, but if it does I wouldn't want to be the GM/GMC representative who passively responded to these posts!!! Ethically and morally there is a responsibility to have this recalled, i'm just sad that it most likely won't happen until someone is killed.

I won't even get into the issues of the economy, the USA vs. Foreign made cars, but let me say that as a person who buys American Made, i'm thinking twice VERY hard!! I believe that if you buy a 40k dollar vehicle there are some expectations that should be met, no matter what country! But in the USA if you don't take care of your own...what is that really telling us?!?

    Thanks-
