  • I have a 2010 Acadia slt-1 and drive roughly 25-30 k a year. I have gas receipts to show that the Posted MPG from GM is 16-22. When i got the car with 25k on it, i was getting 21 highway and 17 city. Now i get ,even in the winter (different blended gas) 13-14 in the city and 17-18 tops on the highway. I got the engine/transmission software updated and have new tires. the command module doesn't work right (keeps on the radio when you turn off car and open door with out key in ignition) heat and cooling doesn't work right, but the dealer says everything is OK. And lastly the growing problem with the Power steering that you cant turn into a street or a parking space without the steering power lost. Dealer of course wont change or fix that power steering pump issues. I know that all these power steering problems are now fixed on the 2013/2014 versions of the Acadia. Good car for what you can haul in it, but GM hiding behind the almighty$$ to not put out a recall for all the Lambia products is disgraceful. Hyundai Santa Fe or Honda Pilot is looking good lately.

Who can i send a report to to show that I don't even come close to the posted GMC's MPG for the Acadia? They should see real world information instead of relying on Dyno.

  • The Acadia gets an A+ for interior bells and whistles, and it seemed great when I tried it out at the dealership. May 28 of 2012, I bought a 2008 Acadia with 81,000 miles on it, because an addition was coming to the family and it seemed to fit the bill. On a limited budget, I had to buy used...I paid $21,000 for the SLT model. In 8 months I've had numerous little problems, but then the power steering and rack went out. $2400 was the estimate to get it fixed, I can't afford that, and this is the second one for my Acadia. This is a well known issue by GMC!!!The power steering issue has nearly killed me twice. I can't trade the car in, because the best I've been offered by a dealership is $13,000 for it, because they know the trouble these models have and they won't touch it. I feel duped and scammed with no one to help me. I called GMC customer service, opened up a case, and was offered a measly $1,000 credit toward the purchase of a new GMC. Really??? This vehicle has ruined me and my family and I have four more years to go! I thought I would take a chance and buy American, but what a fool I turned out to be. This is not right! The GMC mechanic and service advisor told me that this vehicle was nothing but trouble that I need to get rid of it. That's right, the GMC employees at the dealership. I asked them what they would recommend in regards to other GMC vehicles if I were to hypothetically be able to purchase something else. The advisor looked me square in the face and said "I'm not going to lie to you........nothing". I told him I appreciated his honesty. This is 100% true!

So like many others here my 2008 Acadia has the stabilitrak issue. The first visit to the GMC dealer and they could not find anything wrong. The second visit and they replaces the mass air flow sensor $1k, 3 weeks later its back again. This time the dealer calls the GM Tech and they say its another $1k to replace a part with a new design, but cannot confirm this will fix the issue. I opened a case with GM 71-1161670477. I get the District specialist to call me back and Michelle says that because the dealer does not have record of all my oil changes that its due to poor maintenance. Really! I get the 15K maintenance from the dealer regularly and have my oil changed some where else and this is why the stabilitrak is failing? C'mon! So I call Michelle back and ask for a written resolution from her as well as documentation on where in the owners manual it states lack of oil changes will cause stabilitrak to fail, and guess what.....no response. Imagine that. I'd also like GM to provide documentation of how many 2008, 2007 vehicles have had similar stabilitrak issues. I asked Michelle for someone at the next level and she said there wasn't a higher level. So, if your looking for the new owner of GM, just call Michelle, apparently she's at the top.
Hey GM...make it right for anyone that has this issue and quit hiding behind email and phone calls.

I'm also having problems with my steering. we have a 2010 SLT 1 and complained to the dealership about a whining in the steering column about 6 months ago. The dealership reached out to GMC and we were told that it was a cosmetic issue and not covered by warranty. Over the past few months the steering started to lock up when turning into parking spots. Just recently it became a normal occurrence and we brought it back to the dealership. They replaced the steering rack and left ball joint. When we got it back it drove great! That was 5 days ago. Now, the steering has locked up on us again! I'm very disappointed in the Acadia for this and several other reasons. If you read this thread, DO NOT buy an Acadia! I'll be trading mine in as soon as this issue is resolved.
  • Yea it is frustrating that you cant turn into a parking spot or a safety maneuver. I did get something changed in the ball joint , but this has to do with power. Of course the service tech or even manager of dealer couldn't replicate it. I too am going to sell the truck as i know they fixed this issue on the new 2013 Acadia, but I will not buy a GMC. Ill loose my shirt because of the complete depreciation of this American car.

My family's story is so very similar to yours. We feel in love with our used 07 Acadia, but less than a year of having it we have spent $3,400 of ours and our relatives money to replace the transmission. Our family too, is on a limited budget and in addition to making the monthly car payments, we must now pay off the loans for repairs. I wish this was the end of our troubles but currently (less than two weeks since last repair) we are having issues with the stabiltrack system.

As I type, my family is on vacation (800 miles ) away from home and received the stabiltrack, traction off, engine reduced power within 150 miles of our destination. We have three children traveling with us and it was very unsettling traveling through MD/DC traffic with little control over the speed of the vehicle. We have called GM but as before we must take it to a dealer for diagnosis (WHICH COSTS)! We are on vacation with an itinerary that includes prepaid tours, etc so there's little time to be on the phone, locating dealers in unknown areas , driving a vehicle that is unsafe. We plan to call the dealer that fixed the transmission for some type of idea on what this will cost us. We have no extra money and feel we should not be having these major issues on a vehicle that is not that old.
I am soooo disappointed with the GM brand and afraid I will only be able to drive this car locally (work and back), when and IF we get it home. GM needs to understand the position many of us are in, traveling and transporting our families in unsafe, unpredictable and unreliable vehicles. We are not sure what to do to get our family back home except pray it holds up until we get back. I wish there was an immediate answer.

  • I cant agree with you more... i'm done with Gm products my 2009 had nothing but problems. i just bought a 2013 Accord last night and i'm hoping to forget about my Acadia.
  • I bought my 2009 Acadia slightly less than two years ago, it had almost 48k.
    - Immediately after purchase the battery died, no big deal I thought, I bought a new one. I'm now on the third purchased battery. I don't know why this vehicle kills batteries (it's not the alternator), and it's still not resolved,
    - At nearly 70k, I had the A/C evaporator core replaced (it failed/leaked) - $1200.
    - At 77k, replaced coils on #1, #3 & #4 cylinders - $800
    - Now the power steering has intermittent issues, my wife refuses to drive it as it's hard to handle in tight spaces when it 'acts up'. I'm not seeing anything on this board that makes me feel there's going to be a happy ending to this
So, with all that said....I love the vehicle, but it's a lemon.
Is there any suggestions on where I go from here?

We almost have the same things going wrong with the acadia!! Our power steering would cut out while trying to park or in tight spaces. The dealer replaced the steering rack, but that wasn't the problem. There is a repair bulletin, that states a less than normal output from the steering pump. The dealer replaced that and solved that problem.
  • tiretekman,
do you know the number of the repair bulletin?
i would think the GMC woman who watches these posts should know about that issue, I think the NSTB should know too.
  • I have moved recently, but was almost in accident because of the power steering issue. I went onto NHTSA website and brought up complaints to my surprise of all the power steering problems. Why don't you (GM) just admit to the issue and fix the problem, but that would cost too much for recalls. Its sad that its all about $$$.

People should go to this link and type in car information, then Hit the "Complaints" Tab.

  • Scott,
2010slt posted the info about the repair bulletin. I've tried to look it up on the internet, still trying.
I'm getting ready to dump my Acadia, with mixed emotions. The vehicle really fits my needs, but I've got $2k invested in repairs due to poor quality/design, and now I'm facing a power steering unit replacement. Does anyone know how much expense I should expect on that one?
I'm surprised the GMC Customer Service folks that browse these sites haven't responded too.
