    alcjew,

I am not sure if they are available for 2002. I need to ask GMC Dealer about that. As to the moon roof option, it cost 800.00 according to my order form. Priceline also list that as well.

I was assured by my dealer that there are no back order parts on the Envoy.

    Hi all,

Those of you interested in the new 2002 Olds Bravada may want to check out the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada Brand Specialist Discussion topic. The Oldsmobile Bravada Product manager from GM, Kay Jorboe, is there for just this month to answer any questions that you may have.

    See you there!

Anyone else been to this board? Oldsmobile taking a lashing on 2002 and brand extinction.
Hey, I feel that if your going to mess with the Bravada knowing where Olds is headed, your a person who likes conflict. Those folk over there need to "move on" and buy the Envoy or Trailblazer. Get a life.

I was at Tustin GMC, CA today. Envoy will be available by 1st week of March. This dealership will have at least 15 units in stock.

    Oh boy!! :)

They had a great piece on the new GM SUVs on Auto Line Detroit (Detroit PBS). I saw it via satellite on my dad's dish. These vehicles are very impressive.

As for the Bravada, GM will likely move it to another division. A quick change to the front and rear and it could easily pass for a Buick or Cadillac. Mechanically, it's the same at the Chev anf the GMC models so parts are no issue. If you like the Bravada, but it. Probably better deals than the Envoy.

I have a preference for regular glass (just a little tint) in the back and sides and am looking to buy a domestic mid-size SUV. I believe consistent glass helps in the split-second scans to the side and back before a lane change, for example, and differing tints will result in less accuracy making those decisions.

Called Ford and the new Explorer/Mountaineer no longer will be made without the dark tint in rear doors and back. How about GM?

Am I the only one who wants regular glass? I've heard an argument that barker tint keeps people from seeing things to steal - That's weak. A lot of us live where sun and heat season isn't very long.

How about crash stats? I wonder if anyone has compared statistics within each make and model to see if there is a correlation between crash rates and the windows.

I took a spin in the new Bravda. This is it folks GM has really pulled out all stops in the new SUV game. Everything was well thought out at least from my point of view. Power was smooth just like the luxury suv's. The trailblazer drove completely different than the Bravada/Envoy. The Bose system was unbelievable. If you crank that thing up more than 3/4 your brain begins to shake. Room and comfort was perfect for a 6.2' person. The smoothness of this car was outstanding. Every little bump was felt just enough to let you know that a pot hole was there. I activated the heated seat and within 60 seconds my but was toastie. Drive this car and see for yourself before you buy anything else. Fit and finish looked great. The rear styling was really sharp, however the front was boring. I still would go with the Envoy for resale.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
Don't think re-sale will be a big issue on the Bravada. It shares all the same parts as it cousins and the model itself will almost certainly be moved to another division. If you want luxury, Bravada is the one.

My wife currently has a 95 Chrysler LHS which is one of the most comfortable cars I have ever ridden in. Unfortunately it isn't really great for camping and the interior road noise has increased quite a bit in the last year. I would like to have a car that is extremely quiet. Was wondering what your impression of the road noise was.
  • jimxojimxo Member Posts: 423
I would say it was as smooth as a Toyota mini van that I recently drove. If you opt for the air suspension you wont regret it. I have a 2000 maxima and a 95 Lexus. Bravada was better than the maxima and slightly less than the Lexus but not by much. The leather seats were the best I have seen in a GM so far. Go drive one for yourself.

If Olsmobile is going out of business, why would you buy the Bravada? I believe this is a O's product right?
  • eagle30eagle30 Member Posts: 28
Thanks for the info, on the Bravada. Yes I am like you I drive mine until the thing does not start any more. I have own only 3 cars in my life(early-forties). I have never own a new one, this will be my 1st, this baby (whatever it is) had better go for 250,000 miles with no issues. Thanks again

Yes, actually it is in the owners manual. But why read through an owners manual when you can ask questions on a forum like this.

I'd say the tire itself might be the issue. The same issue came up in the subaru boards a few weeks back. A subie owner put on new tires (good year triple treads???) It had good traction going forward, but he couldn't back up a small hill with only a few inches of snow.

Tire tread and traction is directional in many designs.

As for 10" of snow, I've drive through much more (17"+) with my old S-15 Jimmy with no modifications. It just depends on the type of snow. Light and fluffy (dry) or heavy wet stuff. The light fluffy snow pushes out of the way easily.

Went to the Toronto Auto Show and saw / sat in all three of these vehicles. The Bravada is definitely the most luxurious. They had a medium metallic blue one and it was getting more attention that the other two for sure. A beautiful truck! Unfortunately I probably won't be able to afford one so the Trailblazer was what I took a closer look at. The GMC interior was not as attractive to me as the Trailblazer, but that's personal preference. I got a 4 page brochure which gives all the standard/ optional equipment for Canadian models. Base price for an LS was $34,400 CDN for the 2WD and 38,500 for a 4WD. All in all a very impressive look at GM's SUV future. Pathfinders were also fine, but no 2WD version available in Canada. Bummer!
  • jimxojimxo Member Posts: 423
    Hey kids,

Its really simple. Unless Olds is ready to offer some great financing or rebates on the 2002 for get it. The Envoy is better from a 4wd standpoint (low range and full time all wheel high) and polished wheels. If both cars are within 500.00 of each other, then there is no reason to buy the Bravda. The styling is not that different. From the drivers seat it will be the same. Don't be a sucker and let your emotions put in a Oldsmobile. Your buying a piece of equipment, just like a riding mower. Its your money at stake here and resale is important.

I looked at a 2002 Envoy at my local dealership. They had 3 on the lot. All were loaded to the tune of approximately $37k. The dealer had nerve to comment that they were selling them above sticker. Although I thought the vehicle was beautiful, I would never pay over sticker for something from GM until they've proven they can build quality into their vehicles. Overall...Nice truck. Maybe they'll come down on the price when the 2002 Explorer hits dealerships.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
I wouldn't pay over sticker for anything period. People who do clearly have too much money and don't know what to do with it. 2002 Explorer is ok, but the new GM models are just more attractive. I would sooner get an Escape than an Explorer. Ford took no chances at all on the redesign and it really shows.

As far as I know there are only a few models available with "clear" glass. You will have to move up into a slightly stripped Suburban, or Chevy Express passenger van, or down into a Chevy Astro passenger van. Other that what I listed I know of no other suv/van with regular solar-ray glass. Sorry.

I took one out for a quick spin last night. being a gadget-freak, I loved the programmable computer (which among other things can be set to move the seat down and back for easy exit when you take the key out, light delay, auto lock etc.)
Dual climate control, I think EPG was 16/22. Very attractive dash. Loved the signals on side mirrors. Driver/passenger climate controls very nice. Outside temp, compass,

The brakes were "right there" (vs. a longer push in my '97 JGC;) the engine was very responsive.

Seemed taller (6' 2"-ish guess) than reported ?70"? Stance seemed broad, ride was stable. Excellent turning dia. ?37'?

I6 had a nice buzz to it, good power.

Didn't have a chance do play too much with hatch, fold down seats etc. but remember driver seat being comfortable. Noticed it had flip up rear glass similar to my Jeep and the Yukon.

Love to hear any feedback after 2,500 miles. Got to run...

Just picked up my 2002 Trailblazer last night. fyi. Chevy dealers are receiving pretty good quantities upfront. I was aboe to negotiate invoice price for a loaded LT. I picked it up for $31,900 with a sticker of $35,200. I'm happy with the deal. As far as the ride, it is night and day from my 98 Tahoe. The trailblazer is very smooth and tight. The I6 is absolutely killer. I am thrilled with this vehicle. Now....hopefully it will turn out to be reliable!!!!
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
Where do you live? I was told not to expect and Trailblazers for at least another month or two. I know Bravadas have been hitting show rooms, but Envoys/Trailblazers aren't suppose to be out yet.

Looking to buy a Trailblazer or Envoy. Never owned a GM vehicle, but I have been reading other discussions involving GM and reliability seems to be suspect in many people's opinion. I know things go wrong with autos... but overall how would GM's reliability measure up?? Thanks!
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
I have owned 2 GM cars since my Accord and had no major issues. GM trucks are generally very good and these new SUVs are beauties.

Dealerships in St.Petersburg, FL have received TrailBlazers LT. Saw them as I drove by Sunday, February 25th.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
I think I read somewhere that Texas, Florida and California are often the first states to get new GM trucks. Not sure if that's true.

I will pop into my local Chevy dealership tomorrow and see what's happening.

Roadracer - I have owned MANY GM vehicles, most recently a 98 Tahoe and 93 convertible Corvette. I have had absolutely fantastic success with all of my vehicles, with the exception of a bearing in a tranny going out on an 85' Vette some years ago. My wife drives a new Lexus GS300 and I have to admit that the build quality far exceeds that of GM. However, if you want a reliable vehicle at at sane price, I vote GM.

Does anyone know the ETA for the extended version? I hope to buy my new SUV this summer but would wait a little while longer to take a look at the extended Trailblazer/Envoy.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
The sales rep at the Toronto auto show told me late summer for extended versions. May be a little sooner in some areas where needed.
  • roderacerroderacer Member Posts: 311
thanks for the input. I am looking into buying a Trailblazer as the Envoy is a bit too pricey for me. I live in the Souther burbs ( Bolingbrook ), but the dealers out here are saying that it will be some time before they get any real inventory. Demos for now, and people are buying those! hopefully I can get a similar deal when I am ready. Maybe I'll check out that dealership this weekend!

    Thanks!

    dindak,
Sounds great if the ext versions are out this summer. I'm also waiting to buy the ext Envoy, but Motor Trend says that they don't expect to see them until the 2003 models that will come out next year. I'll check with the dealer or send an e-mail to GMC customer service to get any word on this.

Drove the first and only Envoy at our local GMC dealer. Just threw me the keys and let me go!
Nice ride and good power. Transmission shifted poorly, unusual for a GM product. Rear seat kneeroom is ridiculous for a vehicle weighing 4800 lbs! Getting in was rough to as the bottom of
the door is very narrow. No reclining seatback either. Front seats great, but many smaller vehicles have more back seat room. Price was decent though at 32K for a SLE. I've seen Toyota Highlanders going for 36K in this area. Unfortunately, GM needs a vehicle in the Highlanders size range if they want to be competitive.

Called two GM dealers today asking about taking a TrailBlazers or Envoy for a test ride and they both thought I had missed a gear. I memtioned that others were test driving and even purchasing the 2002s in other parts of the country. Of course the sales person was clueless about details and said they did not expect either Blazer or Envoy before April. How can someone in the midwest have 30 to choose from and little ol us in Southern MD have not-a one?
  • svmansvman Member Posts: 25
I can top that. When I called my local Olds dealer about when they'd have the 2002 Bravada in, they said next December! - but to call back in October, just in case. When I told them Oldsmobile has said the Bravadas would be out in the next several weeks, he just said "they can say whatever they want, it doesn't mean it's going to happen." Needless to say, I don't have a lot of confidence in that dealer!
  • babramsbabrams Member Posts: 8
can you email me at babrams@centurytel.net I want to ask you about your 2002 Trailblazer. I had a 98 Blazer (3rd One) that got totaled on Sunday. I'm from Louisiana and will drive to St Charles to get one. Please email me so I can contact you. All I've seen so far is the brochure.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
From what I have read there will be no extended version on the Bravada. Who told you 2003?
  • jim4444jim4444 Member Posts: 124
If the dealers where I live have 10 TB's, 6 Envoys and 3 Bravadas GM must be in full production.

Anyone hear about the I-6 going into other GM vehicles? I know the 4.3 is headed for the retirement home soon.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
I'm sure they are in full production, but still nothing at the local Chev/Olds dealer here. The service manager said he thought some Bravadas might show up later this week.
  • jbossertjbossert Member Posts: 38
Bill Kay Chevrolet in Downers Grove Illinois has over 100 Trailblazers in stock!! It looks like Illinois was on the top of the list of shipments.

Debating between the 2, have driven the MDX twice and husband has driven both vehicles. Any opinions on the 2?
  • lyndellwlyndellw Member Posts: 31
My local dealer has a Bravada and Envoy. I wanted to order an Envoy with the 3.73 axle, but after driving the Bravada with 3.73,and the Envoy with the 4.10,I changed my mind. There is a lot of difference in accelaration! The 4.10 axle is only available with the Premium Preferred Equipment Group. Since I wanted a black one, my dealer found me one 100 miles away. Due to arrive in about 2 weeks. The best deal I could make was 3% over invoice.

Which will give better gas mileage? Which is better for towing? Performance is important, which is better?

    Comments PLEASE!
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
Buy whatever you like better. The Acura is a nice vehicle and so is the Envoy. Personally I would go Envoy, but both will probably do what you need.
  • lyndellwlyndellw Member Posts: 31
The 4.10 axle is the one for towing and quicker at the light if thats your choice. The 3.73 axle will give you a little better MPG, probally 1 to 3 MPG, depending on your driving style. I don't plan on doing any towing, so my preference is better accelaration if I need it. The big disadvantage to the 4.10 axle is the cost to get it. To get it on the SLT 4WD, you have to opt for the high dollar pkg which gives you all options except runningboards and sunroof.
  • timberwolf4timberwolf4 Member Posts: 3
Note that the 4.10 axle is a _no charge_ option on an ordered Bravada......

I was driving down the highway this afternoon and saw the first 2002 Bravada I've seen here in Delaware. It was at First State Chevy-Olds in Georgetown. I guess it must have arrived during the day because it wasn't there in the morning. In the magazines I thought that they looked kind of goofy but in fact they're not that bad. The one I saw was a very deep blue color and I think it had the gold emblems option. I currently drive a five month old 2000 Chrysler 300M that at a little over 5,000 miles rattles and creaks all over. Previously I had a 97 Grand Voyager and before that I only ever had GM cars. All of them were trouble-free. Two different Chrysler dealers and three visits later no one can find a problem in my hunk of good-looking metal. I've seen, read, and heard good things about the new GM utes. Maybe I should test drive one sometime.

I probably would be more interested in the Trailblazer or Envoy but what kind of deals has anyone been finding on any of the three? Is there any good discounts on the Bravada yet because of Old's death? What's the build quality like? I really can't stand constant rattles, creaks, and misfitting pieces.
  • baddestbob1baddestbob1 Member Posts: 96
There is an earlier post of someone buying a Envoy (I think) at 3 % over invoice. I think that is a great deal this early in the model run. Saw the CM and Chevvy models at AC auto show. Envoy was touchy-feel, couldn't get in TB. Quality looks excellent IMO. I tried to compare apples etc. to Explorer and I think the GIs are a little (under 1K) pricker but you have a lot more under the hood.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
The models at the auto show looked solid. My past two GM cars have been rattle free. If you like the Trailblazer, go for it. Chrysler is one of the few makes I will probably never buy again.
