Have you noticed any problems with the front bumper on your Bravada sagging and becoming very loose. My dealer says that compared to other Bravadas on their lot this is normal (2-3 inch gap between bumper cover and grill and driving lights pointing at ground approx. 6 feet from front of truck). I've had the vehicle in their service dept. for about 2 weeks due to tranny problems (would not shift from 1st to 2nd), so I refused to accept vehicle until all repairs are performed to my satisfaction. I ask you this because it seems you've had the most experience dealing with the service issues of the Bravada.

I have to agree with your decision to stick with the Bravada even after all the problems you've encountered, I would've done the same.

Thanks for the order imfo. apparently my salesman is to lazy to look up my order number.I called and asked about a week and a half ago about a build date, said he'd call me back with the imformation, never got back to me.I called him yesterday and left a message on his voice mail he was busy when I called. I asked him to call me back with a build date, never called me back.So that is why I was asking anyone on this board how long I should have to wait.

Thanks for the input, re the LTZ - it doesn't really have anything I want (don't like the 2tone that much, don't want the 17'' wheels or the rain sensing wipers). So for a couple grand less, I'll go for the LT, I think.

When I ordered my Envoy, the package I got (1SH) has the rain Sense wipers in it. Frankly, I thought it was the dumbest option I had ever heard of. If I don't know when and how fast to have my wipers on, I should quit driving, or so I thought. Of course, we are in the middle of a severe drought here, and have had only one rain to drive in since I got the Envoy a month ago. After that one drive, I have done a total turnabout on the wipers. It was SO nice not to have to keep reaching up and changing the interval on the wipers. I drove 150 miles that day in varying rain intensities and never touched the wiper control once. Faster for heavy rain, slower for light rain. It would even wipe when someone went by and sprayed the windshield after the rain had stopped. So, I humbly retract any negative thoughts or comments I ever had or made about rainsense wipers or their owners. I will never want another vehicle without them!

PS to the guy waiting on his Indigo Blue/Medium Pewter Envoy-mine is the same color combo and took 2 months from order to delivery.(5/16-7/19) Allow 2 weeks after built for delivery. The color combo is awesome! We get compliments every day on how attractive the vehicle is. You will love it.

I have a black Envoy SLT and love it. A problem has developed with the wipers. Since we have had little (no) rain in my area they had not been used much. On one occasion they stopped working, but after moving the switch many times they started again. Last night they stopped again. It took about 5 minutes to get them working again, which included turn the key off and on as well as the wiper switch. When the switch is turned all the way on you can hear the relay click in for continuous use. The truck is scheduled to go in for this issue on Monday, but I though I had seen a post about a similar problem. I quickly check all listing last night and could not find it. Has anyone else had this problem and what was the repair?
    Thanks

First things first... I have had my Envoy for 5 weeks and it currently has 1700 miles and it is the best vehicle I have owned. Love it and don't regret buying...

However, I took my Envoy to the dealer because one of the redundant controls on the steering wheel does not illuminate when the lights turn on. Get this... the service dept told me that the dimmer switch was not turned up all the way. Duhhhh, how come the other 7 are visible and one is not. Instead of arguing with the service idiot I went home and called the service manager. Fortunately, he has done a great job to calm my anger and I expect to take my Envoy back to get it fixed right this time. I just don't understand why these jerks never even looked into the problem in the first place or even called me to ask me questions regarding the problem.

I have one big favor to ask the other Envoy owners out there... I would like to know if the dimmer control is supposed to illuminate when the lights are on. I find it strange that all the other switches in close proximity do and the dimmer does not. The service guy told me that it is not supposed to but for some reason I don't believe them. I guess I could go to a dealer and look for myself, but thought I would ask here first. Thanks in advance for your help!!

    vaguy,

I have noticed that the dimmer switch does not light. Kind of funny isn't it...everything but the dimmer. By the way...The cabin truely lights up like a Christmas tree doesn't it. I love how it looks at night, and its easy to find everything. I have, in the past, owned vehicles where the controls on the wheel and the controls for the windows did not light. I'd always be putting down the wrong window, lol. But everything is well lit on these trucks...even the over head controls...just love how it looks at night. Good Luck getting the control fixed.

I haven't noticed anything but I will look when I get home.

I still do love my Bravada although I've been driving my STS more lately. The Smart Trak is just great in the rain and while going around corners while wet. I almost got a 2WD but noone had any. I'm glad I didn't! I do wish I would have waited until the package with the Rainsense wipers was available though. My STS has them and they really are convenient if not totally necessary.

Looks like boards4less.com has aftermarket fiberglass/aluminum running boards for the 2002 trio. $319 unfinished or $419 painted to match.

I would beg to differ on the build time. I have read it's about 2 weeks start to finish to build any car or truck. Think about it, would take a few days just to prime and paint the body. Once you have the assembly pipeline full they come off the end few minutes or so. That means your car or truck spent a few Mondays and Fridays at the plant :)

I was hoping you could explain your problems with your tranny not shifting out of 1st, It has happened with my TB about 4 times in the last month and when I took it in for service they could not find nothing (surprise, surprise).
Was yours constantly stuck in 1st or every once in awhile.
appreciate any info on this matter.

Picked up my peuter Bravada last Friday. I decided for the heck of it to test my front bumbers. They do move. Now I ain't sure if this is normal or not. Are they supposed to have give in them, or did the boys just forget to tighten the screws. I'll place a call into my dealer tomorrow...Rod
  • pureevilpureevil Member Posts: 28
my bumper wiggles around too...wierd isn't it? Tim, does your bumper move around in front?
  • r22549r22549 Member Posts: 42
Yeah that's the ticket,"wiggles"...I wonder if the other other sisters "wiggle" as well.
  • imototoimototo Member Posts: 22
Just checked...my bumper wiggles, too. (has only 230 miles on it). I'm not concerned...think it might have something to do with impact absorption in an accident. BTW, the floorboards taken from the Envoy look great on it and are working great. So far, the car is a dream. It'll take me forever to learn how to use all the capabilities of the radio, though!
  • tlaurotlauro Member Posts: 504
No, my front bumper is as solid as a rock?......just kidding ;) Mine moves around a bit too. Not sure why. Bet they all do though.

I saw on a test somewhere though that they didn't fair too well in the 5mph test. Like $750 or so in damage. Rear did fine as the hitch is there. Perhaps I should push a little more for the brush gaurd or something?

Anyone have a brush gaurd? I've seen some nice ones on the Envoy's...I really don't want all the bars across the headlights, just the main one up front.
  • r22549r22549 Member Posts: 42
Called my dealer today. Indicated it is normal and is a covering over the bumber that has some "wiggle" room. Said even the 01 covering moves abit.
  • pureevilpureevil Member Posts: 28
Don't like how they look. I have seen a few with them...takes away from the looks of the vehivle. If you do a lot of off-road in woodsy areas it is a must. My offroading is limited to unpaved roads in northern Maine...not much plowing up there...but lots of great snow mobiling and skiing :). Hmmm...only two more months till we see some snow up there

I took a test drive of a Bravada today and had a couple of questions for owners of the Escort/Bravada group.

Once while during the test drive and once when I came to a stop when I parked I heard a short hissing noise from the rear area. Sort of like a sound a bus makes at a stop. Is that common to hear? Is it from the rear air suspension?

Is anyone annoyed by the cupholder situation?

Do any tall people, like myself, hit their head on the rear liftgate when its up and you are loading things or under it?

It's a solid feeling SUV and I like it. My main complaints are what I posted above, and a small entry to the second row seats and smallish exterior mirrors.

    Thanks for your comments.

I recently parked my Bravada where the curb was just high enough to scrape the bottom of the bumper cover. When I backed out, I heard the scraping and worried about tearing of the plastic. However, because of the "play" in the bumper cover, there was not damage except for light scraping of the bottom surface where it contacted the curb. If it were rigid, the mounting points of the plastic might have been torn or cracked. I was glad about the "play", especially since the plastic covering is mostly cosmetic (like a mask that can flex and bend and not tear off your face if it should get caught on something).

robz - I think that hissing is the rear air suspension adjustment going off. It hisses when it is releasing pressure from the rear air springs (to lower the rear height). I suppose sometimes when one stops, the vehicle dives some in the front (rises some in the rear). If the height sensing is sensitive, this might be the cause of the height adjustment (trying to lower the rear in response). Probably afterward, it kicks in and pumps the air back in when the rear has settled and the sensor indicates it is a bit low (but is not as easy to hear the pump as it is to hear the air being released).

The rear seat entry is very tight because of the way the wheel well cuts into the door opening. It is even tight to get kids in and out.

The cupholders in front: one is useful but too close to the console, the other is useless except for the ashtray insert that comes with the Bravada (which I use for coins because I don't smoke). The floor shifter makes this cup position useless except for the smallest of cups.

Besides this, the Bravada wraps you in luxury that makes up for the quirks.

On the hissing noise noise. It is normal. I traded in my 98 Bravada for the 02. It's alot more stable then the 98. It ain't a sports car, but thats not why we bought it. Brakes are also better and the turning radius is great. We all know how great the engine is. I am having a slight probblem with the radio reception, and will eventually have it checked.

Do have one question though that my dealer was unable to answer. This is listed in consumer guide...>> Standard front side airbags include HEAD/TORSO PROTECTION FOR THE DRIVER, Torso only for the passenger <<..Don't quite understand this. There is a side airbag for the passenger, no..?...Why does the driver get head protection and the passenger doesn't..? Any help would be appreciated..Rod

I went out of town today in my Envoy. Not a long trip about 70 miles one way. Notice that my average gas mileage was only 14.5 miles per gallon. Then when I was almost home, about 1 mile, the Service Engine Soon light came on. I called the dealer from home, as advised, push the onstar button for a diagnostic check. They checked it three times, with engine on and engine off. They couldn't find a problem with it. The gas cap in on tight. All guages read normal. But the light stays on.

I know you'll say take it to the dealer for a check. But that's kind of hard when they are all on strike in St. Louis. The strike is expected to last until October.

The Envoy only has 3,500 miles on it. I need it everyday. Any ideas? Should I call General Motors and see what I should do? Do I take someplace else to have it checked? If I do, I think GM should pay for the service. If I do take it somewhere else does that effect my warranty?

Or should I just drive it until the strike is over and use Onstar if I break down.

    You've all been discussing problems/solutions, likes/dislikes, comparing/criticizing...
Well, here's my experience. Love this ride! So much so we got two of them. Wife finally tired of cramped little sports cars.

    Anyways, top this.

After just three weeks of driving my new TB, some uninsured-suspended license-POS, rearends me at a stop sign. My indigo blue LS has a smashed rear bumper, 1300 miles and not even a license plate!

I wasn't sure how to react. Never had an accident, thanl goodness for good insurance though.

Hey, I just wanted to share my pain...any sympathy??? Thanks all.
  • imototoimototo Member Posts: 22
r22549, I don't think we have head protection from the side airbags for either the driver or passenger. The cars I've seen that offer head protection airbags are installed in the roof, not on the side of the seat like in the Bravada. (I'm assuming the same goes for the TB and Envoy.)

rdh, you have my sympathies. Only reason I have a Bravada now is I was forced to buy it. The only accidents I had in my old Olds were rear-enders, each time. One was like yours, except stopped at a light. This last one was slowing down to make a left turn into our little cul-de-sac. NOT another car on the street! And this stupid young woman hits me. Car was considered too old to repair, so insurance gave me a paltry sum. And now I'm trying to sell the car. $80 for a 3 line ad in the newspaper! It all has been such a hassle. Hope the girl has had a lot of sleepless nights.

In my case, she got the ticket; then the cop spent a bunch of time telling her how she could get her points reduced. Insult to injury. Sigh.

sostrouble. You should still be under warranty. Doesn't sound like you will have to pay for anything. Sounds like a faulty light/sensor which the dealer should take care of. Call GM, they should do right by you.

I am interested in getting some ventvisors for my Envoy and I was wondering is anyone out there has had any experience with this product. Being that they stick on, how difficult are they to remove if you ever had to?
  • 02discovery02discovery Member Posts: 47
    Absolutely love the GMC Envoy BUT, I sincerely hope that all interested in this vehicle are aware of the super flimsy fenders on the front of the Envoy. Before you plunk down your hard earned money for this truck, reach down into the wheel well, grab the fender and pull ever so slightly. Observe the flexing and warping which occurs! If a child on a bike were to loose his balance and accidently fall on one of these fenders,you WILL have major damage. If an out of control parking lot shopping cart were to hit it, you'd come out and think you were just hit by a semi truck! (if it weren't for these fenders, I'd have an Envoy in my driveway}
Or, if you don't want to perform this simple pull test,
purchase one and then when you wash it for the first time, when you get to the fenders, see if your stomach wont sink to the floor!
Otherwise, this is an excellent truck! Fix the problem GMC!
    Regards To All,

I know the dealer could take care of it, but all the mechanics are on STRIKE. I don't think that I should have to go out of state to get it repaired. I've been told that even going into Illinois, it will take several days just to get it checked out. In St. Louis, St. Louis county and St. Charles, and close areas all service department for dealers are closed and not just General Motors. The word is that they will be closed until at least October.

rdh559: I feel for you. I have only had two accidents and both times I was rear ended. Once at a stop sign, and once in traffic.

Just read in the paper that a Red Trailbrazer was stolen off the dealers lot the other day.

Hi fellow Envoy owners. Just wanted to say how much I am enjoying my new Envoy. I have the 4WD SLT model, SF package with Sunroof, Bose sound system and Air suspension. One of the things I like the most about it is how comfortable it is, and how quite the ride is.

I am still learning about the many features that this vehicle is packed with! One thing I learned is that if you hit the small buttons labeled 1 or 2 on the drivers door panel, you will change all the driver preferences from driver #1 to #2, or vice versa. I was driving down the road the other day and I accidentally hit the #2 button when the radio went off and the climate control system changed to the manual mode. The vehicle will automatically adjust everything (power seats, mirrors, radio, climate control, etc.) to the setting of driver #1, or driver #2, depending on which remote was used to unlock the vehicle, or which button on the door panel is pushed. Hint: read the portion of your manual relating to the driver information center. There are numerous options for how you can program the different features. Nice job by GMC designing this vehicle.
  • akajoeakajoe Member Posts: 69
Maybe you can call GM customer service and ask them if they have any recommendations about independent repair shops in your area that have the necessary equipment to diagnose and repair your vehicle. Are all mechanics on strike, or just the ones working at dealerships?
  • sostroublesostrouble Member Posts: 65
As far as I know just dealerships. But when I have taken the Envoy in for work, the service department always asks "Has anyone else worked on your Envoy?" The answer has always been no, but it makes me wonder if I did have someone else work on it, would it void my warranty. I have heard of that happening before. Some fine print we all miss when reading the documents.
  • mgrcmmgrcm Member Posts: 53
Hello again I just wanted to add that my salesman called me back on Saturday.Says my Envoy was shipped to them and should be at there dealership in a week and a half to three weeks(ordered on 6/27).
Now I,ve been reading some of the earlier post's here or should I say complaints(up to #751) and I can't believe some of them. Now mind you I only have test driven the Envoy so far,but I will be trading in my 98' Durango with 318 engine and 3.92 gears and everything but leather.
Now for the people who complain about poor gas mileage, cheap looking interior, wondering where the 270 hp.is, noise, ride and handling, apparently have never driven or owned the Dodge Durango.I was test driving the 2001 Durango and shopping around when my GM credit card sent me an ATM card that if I test drove an Envoy I would get 40.00 dollars. So I went to nearest GM dealer drove one and fell in love with it.The power, ride, handling and options are far superior than my Durango and if I do better than the 13 to 14 MPG.that I'm getting now it will just be another plus. And after owning my last two GM's a 92' and then 94' Yukon I swore I would never own a GM product again show's how much that test drive of the Envoy impressed me.If it wasn't for the 40.00 that I got to test drive the Envoy I would probably would have done something stupid and bought another Durango never knowing just how much better the Envoy was.
    Just my long .02 cents.

    Rick.

looking for some advice---does anyone have an envoy with 2 wd and tration control--is it worth the extra money to get the 4 wd? will not be going off road with the vehicle but want to know if the 2 wd will be ok for winters? any responses would be great.

My wife and I recently test drove a TB. The one thing both of us noticed (which I have not heard anyone else talk about) is that the gas pedal is too far right. In order to press the gas, your foot is right up next to the carpet on the side console. Has anyone else noticed this or are we both going wacko. It seems like the pedal should be a little more to the left. Just wonderin'...

I was up in cottage country this weekend, 2 hours north of Toronto. Whoo ahh, lots of 02 Trailblazers and Envoys. These trucks are selling well. Didn't see many 02 Explorers out though given the dull look of the redesign, I simply may not have noticed.

I agree completely...I almost have to angle my foot sort of sideways to use the pedal comfortably.. Thankfully, Cruise Control keeps it from being a problem on long trips.

sos, I'm a reader of small print and I read manuals. Your warranty won't be voided if you have someone else work on it as long as you have meticulous records. I'm not sure about major things, but if you change oil, filters, etc., the warranty is in effect if you can prove that the recommended/required services were performed.

But, my question is, what is GM telling you about this? You have called them, haven't you? The service dept. may not being helpful because you are just another face in a long day. Talk to the mgr.; if no results there, then go into the showroom. The salespeople just love having disgruntled customers talking "up" vehicles in front of prosepective buyers!

Hello folks...wife's new Bravada was delivered to dealer on Thursday, picked it up Friday. Man, what a BEAUTIFUL vehicle!! Polo green, camel (or oak, whatever they are calling it today) interior, heated seats, Bose stereo, 6-disc CD changer, and DVD entertainment system. This thing looks and rides like a dream! Too bad it is hers everyday...oh well, I get to drive it to church on Sunday.

    Dislikes and concerns:
Turned off those goofy tilting mirrors. I do not want to look at the ground while I am backing up,
I want to see what is behind me. Any good driver has walked around their vehicle prior to backing up...I already know there are no tricycles, skateboards, shopping carts, etc. behind me. What I want to see is my truck parked in the driveway and what is in the street. Just my preference.

Everytime my wife pulls into the garage, I hear a sizzling sound like cold meat hitting a hot skillet...I am sure this is the A/C condensation dripping onto the exhaust manifold, but it is still annoying. Anyone else noticed this??

No one that I am aware of has ever addressed the issue of child car seats in the triplets. I went to install my daughter's car seat in the Bravada, and found that the seat belt on the middle of the back seat does not lock down to hold a car seat. Read owner's manual, and lo and behold, you are not supposed to use a car seat in the middle position of the back seat. Now any idiot (and GM's engineers are the biggest idiots of all) knows that the safest position for a child during a collision is the middle position of the back seat...why would GM design the back seat to where you cannot use a car seat in the middle position?? Morons!! Well, I got the metal locking bracket-thingy that came with my daughter's car seat and proceeded to thread the lap belt and shoulder harness through it. I tightened the lap belt as tight as I could, and it seemed to be fine using this seat belt locking bracket. Car seat also has an anchor strap, which is attached to the tiedown behind seat in cargo area. I am sure that this arrangement is okay, and my daughter's safety is not compromised near as much as it would be if she were sitting in one of the outboard seat positions. Any one else have this probelem? What are your thoughts?

Other than that, so far so good, for the whole 60 miles it has been driven prior to this morning.

I called the dealer, They said to take it out-of-town to a GMC dealership, but that most were backlogged because of the strike it could take a couple of days before they even look at it. I'm just worry about what the Service Engine Soon light means. Onstar did a system check and couldn't find anything.

I'm going to call GM Customer Service today.

WeatherTech is making a ventvisor for the TB.They had the proto type and they're now being made in Germany and should be ready the second week in September. These can be puchased thru MacNeil. They are very clean looking and don't stick on.They lock inside the window channel leaving a clean appearance. They also have a small video file on their site with mounting instructions.Good Luck,

Congratulations on your new Bravada. It sounds really great. Your the first individual I've heard from that has the DVD Player. My Envoy is on order with that system. It's being built this week. So far, there has been little information on it, so I don't know what to expect. Could you can please elaborate on this system. Exactly where is it located on the headliner? Is it just behind the console that houses the homelink and sunglasses. Also, where did they place the parental switch(s)? I have the repair manual and it lists two parental switches, one power and one mute. It only states they're by the front drivers seat. Do speakers come with it? If you put down the screen, can you still see out the rearview mirror? Any other info will be appreciated. Thanks, will be waiting for reply. acl1966

You can turn the tilt mirrors (and many other things) on & off through the driver's information center. I found that I was a lot happier after I took a couple hours and went through the owner's manual...there were too many things on this vehicle to try to figure them all out myself. Enjoy!

BTW, I heard the water hissing too, but after a few days I guess I got used to it.

As I posted earlier, this is my wife's vehicle, which I have driven one time, so my knowledge of all the systems is still very much limited. All I know is that this vehicle looks S-O-O-O good!

    1) As I recall, the homelink transmitter is on the rearview mirror with all the OnStar buttons. Some of the other posters probably know more about this than I do.

    2) The DVD screen is located on the headliner approximately midway between the front seats. It is the third item in line on the roof, behind a large storage compartment and a sunglass storage compartment. The screen (IMHO) probably does interfere with looking in the rearview mirror, though we have not driven with it down yet.

3)I do not know about any parental controls in the front seat area (I have not seen them). We have not operated the DVD system yet, but I will convey what I know. There are some A/V plug-ins (video game system ??) on the roof console holding the screen. All of the other DVD controls are on a hand-held remote...looks just like the one you would have for your home entertainment system. DVD system also comes with two wireless IR headphone sets...I am assumimg you can also hear sound through the rear seat stereo controls, though I do not know that for a fact. I do know that front seat occupants can listen to the radio/CD while rear seat passengers listen to DVD through the headphones. There are also plug-ins at rear seat stereo controls for hardwired headphones.

That's all I know about the DVD system for now...I will give it a test drive this weekend, then report back when I know more about it.

Welcome to the fold Childs57! I also love my Bravada.

Here is the ideology of the tilting rearview mirror(s) - by the way, the Bravada is the first vehicle I have seen with dual tilting ones. Most just have them on the passenger side. The idea is that when you are parallel parking they are a great resource for seeing exactly how far you are from the curb. I also like it because I have a very long driveway that curves and it makes it easier to keep from running up on the grass as I back out.

So you see, the mirrors are not tilting so you can see what is behind you (of course we all know that mirrors are not the best source for safety reasons), they are tilting so you can see the ground by your tire.

As someone who drives in the city often and has to parallel park, I find them indespensible for saving my tires/wheels from the granite curbs here in Atlanta that are murder if you get to close to them.

Regarding the homelink, the buttons (on the Bravada anyway) are at the frontmost portion of the overhead console (with the sunroof, anyway) and are to the right with the left buttons being for the Travelnote.

    Enjoy!

I thought I read here once that there has been a TSB for the console. Does anyone know where to find this or the number? I have had my Bravada in twice because the console makes a high pitched squeak while driving over bumps and/or leaning on it. Of course these moron service guys just say "All the Bravadas we have on the lot do that". Like that means it's "OK"????

Also, I get the same response to the headliner falling down being the sunroof. Does anyone know about a TSB for that?

    Thanks in advance.

mfullmer: My Envoy console squeaked too. (And I got the same worthless response from the dealer). Fortunately, my squeak was easy to fix. I put felt between the console and the metal bracket on the floor that the console mounts on. I used Loctite on all the screws when I put everything back together. It didn't take long to do it and it was easier than arguing with an idiot service manager. The TSB doesn't cover the squeaking. The TSB adds a metal striker plate and a new latch so the console closes more securely. (Why wasn't it that way in the first place??) I don't know the TSB number offhand. GMC sent me a letter, so you should get one. Can't help on the headliner, since I don't have a sunroof.

    I hope this helps,

    Dennis

I'm looking hard at the 2002 Trailblazer or Envoy. I travel quite a bit and am interested in real world gas mileage numbers.

Anyone that owns one, please comment.

    Thanks.
