Here's an accessory query:

Has anyone found a custom mat for the rear of an MPV that fits with the third seat DOWN? We need the cargo space a lot more often than the 3rd seat, so it would be great to have a mat that covers the whole area behind the middle row!

These guys aren't cheap, but I've heard of folks buying a mat that fits perfectly for the MPV. I use a large mat with 3/4" sides, and a pattern similar to the weathertech one for our MPV. I got it at Walmart for about $20. It is not a perfect fit, it's only about 3'x3', but it's great for tossing gear and junk onto to keep the carpets clean.

I've commented before on these. They're NOT cheap
yet, very good quality & quite functional. I have
their mats (incl. the "well" liner) throughout my 2000 MPV ES. The mats for 2nd & 3rd row are trim-to-fit type. They overlap each other so there's no exposed carpet. If you have the factory carpet mats (not very functional), I suggest you leave them in place and put the Weathertechs right over them (to help save the permanent carpet below). The liner is custom fit (I think $79) and has a 3.5 inch lip so, if anything were to spill back there it would be contained. Since it's a perfect fit, there's no prob "tumbling" the 3rd seat.

I goofed. I thought you were inquiring 'bout the "well" liner. W/tech also makes a larger flat
mat that covers entire area behind the 2nd row (when 3rd seat is "tumbled/flat") up to the rear hatch. I didn't buy it since 3rd seat is usually up. I may reconsider once the weather breaks (in Chgo) and we start making trips to the landscape nurseries. I'm not sure if it's a custom fit or if it's trim-to-fit style. If you decide to get one, PLEASE let the rest of us know how it works out.

Thanks to BRMUDA and Javadoc. I'm thinking. I spent the first four weeks or so with the van with the 3rd seat down (we don't have kids and haul a bunch of junk regularly) but for a change I put it up and am kind of loving the well behind the seats--it really is great for groceries, smallish boxes, etc.--so now I'm flirting with the well liner. My wife says, "Buy both!" But of course then you have to store one, etc., etc. I have a weathertech liner in the back of our Explorer, along with front mats, and they sure do the trick.

So if I can figure out what I'm going to do I'll leave a report...

Yeah, I really like the Weathertech trunk liner and mats in our 850...they fit perfectly (also came w/car, so free), but wife wasn't ready to spend that on her van, so we went with the cheaper mats, which seems to work great also, but don't offer quite the amount of total floor coverage, so it's a trade-off. We leave the 3rd row down most of the time, and slide the mat up/back as needed. It's great for just about anything you want, and like brmuda said, it worked awesome for when we needed new plants for the gardens last spring.

The well is also well proportioned. It easily swallows our mammoth stroller with room for either gear for the kids activities or a number of bags of groceries (that won't slide around in the well either).

Darn Mazda for making the MPV so convenient! ;-)

I'm all the way down in Park Forest. Far south subs. May be relocating further north within the next couple of years tho. New casino in Rosemont WILL happen.(keep your fingers crossed) The old home area isn't what it used to be....

We just wanted protection for the existing mats, so we went to Home Depot & picked up the cheap, clear rug runner they carry on rolls @ $.98 per running foot (27" wide I think). Cut to fit & my wife is very happy.

Hi MPVers, As you can probably guess by my user name, I am a father of four. Five counting my better half. Plus a dog. I am surprised I haven't seen this request already listed. I am looking for inexpensive car seat covers that I can take off easily and throw in the washer. With four kids ranging from 5-12 and a wife who likes the drive through, my seats get dirty quickly. The tan is a hard color to keep clean. I have been to K-marts and Ames so far. Plus Walmart internet site. Haven't seen any thing appealing. Problems, either to expensive (lambskin), One piece that covers the adjustable headrest, or made of a polyester fuzz that I had once before that created enough static to take care of Calif. rolling brown outs. Any suggestion. I was thinking of buying some material and having my strife sew in some elastic borders but prefer factory made stuff

Seat covers are great to keep the factory fabric clean and new looking. A word of warning though. If you have the MPV with the Touring package, or an ES model, you do not want to put any seat covers on the front seats. This is because your van will be equipped with Side Impact Air Bags, and covering or altering their effectiveness can cause serious harm if you are in an accident. There are, however, covers out there that are made for vehicles with Side Impact Airbags, but I know none in particular.

If you're unsure if you have the airbags, look at the on the side of the seat back, up at the top, and there will be a label saying the seat is equipped with an airbag. Just wanted to make sure everyone's safe. :-)))

Does anyone know where a cargo net for a 2000 MPV lx can be purchased?

I'm looking for something that can attach to the inside cargo area, while the 3rd row bench is 'tumbled-down' into the well.

I've surfed around at JCWhitney and other similar websites, but am currently unable to confirm if their cargo net products would sufficiently fit my MPV.

I know that Mazda didn't offer a wind deflector for the MPV (the only Mazda vehicle which didn't have one) when I purchased mine. Does anyone know if they have added one? or if there is one that will fit the van that does not require any taping?

Has anyone purchase a MPV with a factory installed entertainment center. This would include a VCR and Flip down TV screen. If so, where is the VCR located in the Van? Thanks

The VCP is installed under the 3rd seatbench by the dealer. This is not that good because when you flip the seat over you will end up with VCP sticking out so you will definitely put the plywood you tow right on top of it. Some aftermarket installers put the VCP under the passanger seat in the first row. LX and ES models will loose the under-seat storage bin but I guess it's pretty useless anyway (never used it for 8 months, maybe later...). Someone suggested that it should be possible to move the VCP under the passanger seat yourself. Anyone did this?

I am also looking for a good Mazda accessory site on-line to purchase a rear bumper step guard before we scratch up the bumper. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am a programmer, too (C and RPG and now Javadoc - I mean Java) (hehehe). See... we have much in common.
Did I mention that we have 6 dogs now. They jump into crates in the back with the seat down. So far, I've been able to keep them from scratching, but it is only a matter of time. You can imagine how important this is to me.

My wife's '01 ES came with the step plate, so I won't get in the bidding! However, I've had luck emailing the seller (in my case speaker system & some software) to ask if they will sell me one at the same price of the previous hi bid. Usually, they have said yes.

Cinka, you're prolly watching the auction too, but the bid's to $27. None of the bidders is my neighbor, I checked. Smart money lies low till the closing bell is near, heheheh.

Since yesterday's edmunds exchanges were erased, I'll post what I've gleened from the ebay seller of the bumper step plates. According to this seller, they're actually a Mazda/Kia dealership, and they're trying to sell their accessories to the masses via ebay, only they've just gotten started (the story goes, anyway), and don't have enough positive feedback points to start selling using the "Buy Now" feature, and not enough for Dutch Auctions (I think you need 60 feedback points), or (so they say) they'd be doing more auctions.

At any rate, they claim to be able to have access to all available accessories for the MPV (and other Mazdas)...I've asked him about an RSES but haven't gotten a response yet on that.

He did say that they are willing to sell for 20% over cost, or 20% below list, which ever is lower, and that they only want to get at least $25 for the rear step plates...which says there's a helluva markup on those things, as list is like $90, I believe.

Anyhow, that's the story, although this guy could just be some parts employee stealing from a dealership...who knows, right? Just had to throw that out there, sorry, but "buyer beware" for online purchases.

I'm wanting some accessories from this guy, and am going to open more of a dialog, if anyone else is interested.

Does anyone know of any kind of pad that fits over the top of the dashboard? The glare coming off the dashboard, both into the cabin and back into the winshield, is something fierce. Really cuts visibility on a sunny day.

I have had both color interiors an never had a problem with glare and this is in fact "sunny southern California".

Did you oil your dash with "Soul-Glo" or something? I have noticed that the new-car plastics tend to make the windsheild hazy, but thats just a matter of Windex.

I've not noticed a glare in the tan interior of MochaVan, but then, it's dark half the year here (not exactly).

I think that weathertech might market a pad, you could try them?

I've got the Sand Mica with the beige interior, and the glare bothers me more than any other car I've ever owned. I'm getting so I'd almost rather have Seasonal Affective Disorder from overcast days than a spring sun.
I don't know what the problem is that I seem to be having with it when none of you seem to be bothered. And no, aside from a weekly wipedown with extra virgin olive oil, I don't do a thing to it.

Many thanks for the Whitney Link. I found exactly what I was looking for--$45 with shipping. They also, FWIW, have the Clutter Catcher, though it's 2x what Walmart would charge if they had any (both my only closeby store and their website are Out Of Stock)

My wife's purse is always too full to bring with her, so I end up carrying her keys and phone in my "cargo" shorts(nearly year round, BTW).

I worry that if I put a Clutter Catcher in our MPV, it will end up like her purse. (nice work in of the MPV, eh Steve/Drew?)
