I just ordered a 2001 Wrangler Sport on Friday the 13th. I ended up paying $200 over invoice. After the $500 rebate, I'm paying $300 under invoice. I was told it was going to take about 4 weeks. I can't wait! Here is what I ordered:

Silverstone Metallic w/ black soft top & half doors.
    D package
    5-Speed manual transmission
    30 inch Tire/Canyon Wheel Pkg w/ Dana 44 & 3.73 ratio
    Trac-Lok Differential
    Air conditiong
    Floor Mats
    Fog lamps and tow hooks
AM/FM w/ CD player and subwoofer
    Sentry key
    Bodyside steps
Metal Add-a-trunk (not the plastic one)
    Tinted windows

I just ordered my new 2001 SE. White bottom / Tan top. I drove the SE and the Sport...couldn't justify spending almost $3,000.00 extra for what I'd get, so I ordered the SE at factory invoice less the $500.00 rebate ($500.00 under invoice). Hope that is a decent deal!?!?!

I was undecided about getting the hardtop, but went ahead and got the dual top package. Really, I test drove both and the soft top made a little more noise at highway speed but not enough to justify the dual top price. I went ahead and ordered it anyway.

And, I hope I did the right thing by getting the 4-cylinder. I drove both and true, the 4 is a little sluggish, but I'm not Jeff Gordon anyway! Any comments on the above, please respond. Equipment is as follows:

    Quick Order Pkg. N
    Convenience Group
Full Steel Doors w/Roll Up Windows
    AM/FM CD
    Spare Tire Cover
    Body Side Steps
    AC
    Spend Control
    Front Carpeted Mats
    Nomad Cloth Seat Trim
    Dual Top
    Hard Top
    Auto Transmission
    Full Size Spare
    Deep Tint Glass

Twinkles: I wish my jeep would come with "spend control," as I'm likely to spend a little bit of money on the extras! (just kidding, I'm sure you meant Speed Control)

Anyway, I order my 2001 Sport and will take delivery in late July/early August. Here's the info on me and my jeep:

    Name: Marcus
    Age: 28
    Occ: USAF
Location: Okinawa, Japan (soon to be Colorado Springs)
Happily Married, 2 kids, 2 dogs

2001 Steel Blue Sport, Soft Top
    Quick Order Package D
    A/C
    Fog Lamps/Tow Hooks
    Tint Windows
    ABS
    Trak-Loc
    Full Metal Doors
    Sentry Key
    Add-a-Trunk
    Bodyside Steps
    Subwoofer (No CD)
    Total Price: 20,686 + TTL

Can't wait to get it. Only about 100 days to go!

We are buying a 1999 Wrangler Sport (10k miles on it) for our son for graduation. I would like to move to a larger tire/wheel combo (it has the standard wheel/tire). What is the max size I can go to without getting into the lift business? Any specific recommendations on brand names, wheel offset etc???

    Thanks in advance?

You seem like a fine addition to the Wrangler board! Your grandpa is a very respected member here, but I may have to differ with his opinion about your "best dog" status. You see, one of my children is a black Lab. Her name is B.D., which stands for "best dog". :-)

I was posting on Jeep Wrangler-IV (SUV Board)
    I just bought a 2001 4.0 Sport.
    It's pretty basic except for:

    Dana 44 rear end
    Canyon wheel group
    Dual top group
full metal doors w/roll up/down windows
all windows tinted (except soft ones)
even the rear view mirror is tinted.
    rear defroster/wiper
    5 spd trans
colour is .... sienna w/black top

I am in the process of breaking it in. The one thing I can think of that needs to go is that "shifting arrow", it is annoying.

The owners manual is a little short in break in info. other than "don't go over 50 for the first 100 miles and not over 55 for the first 500 miles"
It dosn't say much about RPM. The shifting guide goes by mph..... this seems to be lugging the engine down at their "recommended" speeds.

Are they going by speed to break in the running gear? I only have 200 miles on it.

My Jeep: The steel to make it has not yet been mined. The other raw materials are not even in the process yet. For you see, I plan on waiting to order the first 2003 I can get my hands on. Yes it will be a long wait, but I am a patient person. I'll have plenty of time to decide color, options, accessories and extras. Please don't offer pity, I'll be OK. I still have my stack of brochures and reviews to study. One good thing about being almost 50 is that they always say as you get older time goes faster!

    Hello everyone.

I am a prospective Jeep buyer and I am a bit lost in the process of decisions. C, Y, and J. I am a BIG guy and I know I can fit in the 94 variety (which I believe is a Y). I have been in a 97 (NJ?) and was a bit cramped- knees pressed hard into the dash. I am fairly sure I want the in-line 6 cylinder with a straight axle(?). I don't care about the ride quality. I am looking for a dependable transport and the ability to go just about anywhere. Hard top seems to be a must.

Care to share your opinions with me?

    I would appreciate any guidance.

How big do you call "big"? I am 6" tall, overweight, but fit very comfortably into my 2000 Wrangler (TJ). I commute an hour each way to work daily, and I don't feel cramped or uncomfortable. I had a 98 Sunfire that was fun and fast, but I couldn't sit in it for very long without feeling cramped. (Plus, I couldn't do any 4 wheelin' in it!)
The TJs (97 to current) feel "bigger" to me than the previous YJs (square headlights), although I don't know specs off of the top of my head. Feel free to post over in the "Jeep Wrangler IV" board - that is where the majority of the people here post, and you can get answers to your questions much quicker.

  • wheelshighwheelshigh Member Posts: 30
Ok, from 87-95 the wranglers which had the square headlights were called YJ's,(I'm still not sure what it means), and from 97-2001 they are called TJ's. The YJ's have a leaf spring suspension and have a stiffer ride than the TJ's which feature a four corner coil spring suspension( it also has more axle articulation). All jeeps older than those are called CJ's(civilian jeep). I do not think there is any difference in the amount of room inside, but better for you to check out the difference. I think some people refer to there jeep as an NJ for "new jeep". I would go for the straight six if you've got the money, but the four banger isn't bad either, especially the YJ's which have 4.10 gears standard with the four. All jeeps have straight solid axles except for the new liberty which has an IFS axle in the front(I don't like it at all). Check out a few prices and take a few out for a test ride to find out what you want and then let us know how much if you want and we will be able to let you know if your getting a good deal. Well hope to see you in a jeep. Have fun!!!

    Hey fellow Jeepsters!

For those that don't know me through the Wrangler chat, here's some personal info:

Debbie Gilmer (my friends call me Deb)

    -I'm 38 (as of June 21st)

    -Single

-Currently working in a print shop in Maryland Heights Missouri-hoping to either get certified to teach art and/or get my masters

-1 dog (Annie {miniature poodle}I know, I've heard all kinds of cracks about poodles, but I live with my parents who are both disabled and Mom laid down the law...NO BIG DAWGS, ESPECIALLY NONE THAT SHED! I still love her though. When I do(see I'm thinking positively)get my Jeep Wrangler, she may fight me for the first drive. I have to fight her to drive my 95 Firebird (I usually win).

-I want to get as close to a Sahara as I can without paying that much for one.

-I envy all of you that already have your Jeeps, so that's why I tell everyone to hug their Jeeps for me.

-I've driven Wranglers on several occasions and love the feeling of freedom they give. I can't wait to be a true fellow owner.

Hug your Jeeps today for me! ;o)

...of having my own Jeep! Hi, I'm Kara, and currently my fiance and I own a '98 Bonneville and '01 GMC Sierra Z71. The Bonneville is a beautiful car but it is NOT me. It's also known as "The Mommy Car." ;>

I'm 32 years old, an avowed non-mother, and am finally bowing to my instinct to ride with my head 'out the window', as it were. Our dogs are also eager for us to bring home a Wrangler, so we can give them the ultimate wind-in-their-faces ride. (If anyone's curious, my username is my favorite cartoon character, Buttercup from the PowerPuff Girls!)

My fiance's vehicle is the Sierra, and we're very pleased with it. It replaced my previous dream machine, a Ford Bronco that turned out to be such a bucket of sorrow that I was glad to be rid of it. I don't think he's as thrilled as I and my grrlz are to be looking at all these Wranglers because he's 6'4" tall, and his legs are just a bit too long to get comfortable with the clutch & accelerator.

I want a Wrangler more than I want to draw my next breath (so I can take the top and doors off from the beginning of April to the end of November!), but am undecided if it's a good idea to buy used. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to watch out for when purchasing a used, late-model Wrangler?

I figured that a group of dedicated Jeep fans would be the best people to get advice from...and I'm determined to get a Wrangler at one point or another. It's just that buying used would make it SO much easier to buy food and continue making the house payment!

Good to meet all of you, and I'm looking forward to the day when I can say I'm a LEGITIMATE member of this club!

Hi, I'm a new member and a new Jeep Wrangler owner. Here's what I got:
2001 Jeep Wrangler - Solar Yellow/Black Top and Interior
    Dual Top Option
    CD/5 Speaker
    A/C
    Dana44 with Trakloc differential
    30" Wheel Group
    Body Side Steps

I love it. I try to drive it with the top down at any opportunity. So if you're ever in MA and you see a guy riding a Yellow Jeep with the top down wearing a jacket and the heat on full because it's 40F out - that's me!

I've taken it off-road twice in 2 months - but not for long. I'm still tentative given that it's so new. I wash it every week.

My buddies at work love to volunteer me for a lunchtime ride once and a while when it's nice out.

This is "the big bird35", real name is Phil, and I live in Gaithersburg, MD. Just bought a 2001 Wrangler Sport. Paid $200 over invoice, and got the $500 cash back too. Bought from Tate Jeep in Glen Burnie, MD, and they were great. Some details are: Patriot Blue, black soft top, full doors, 30" tire/wheel group, automatic, a/c, CD player w/4 speakers (wanted subwoofer, but will have to upgrade later), fog lights/toe hooks. I love all outdoor activities. Favorites are fishing and jeepin around Civil War battlefields. I'm a history buff. I'm married with two sons, 11 and 9, and they love the jeep too. Would love to get into off roadin, but right now, I'm just getting used to the fun of it, and the jeep subculture. I read every posted message before buying, and they were a great help! Thanks to all!

    Hey Y'all,
    Here are the details:
Cameron is my name; born, raised and live in Raleigh, North Carolina.

I Jeep vicariously through my wife's '98 Sahara. She even lets me occasionally take it out and muddy it up. We bought it while we were in Chicago.

I feel pretty lucky. A Wrangler was her dream car. Could have been a Maserati or Range Rover. I ended up buying new because it looked to me like the Wrangler really held it's value.

Am enjoying reading everyone's posts in the Wrangler Section. I will try to keep up on Wrangler speak, because my car is sold and I'm heading overseas for a while.

Look forward to chatting with all of you!

My name is Nancy. I was on Edmunds.com to check out some info on 2002 Wranglers and found this group. You sound like a fun group of people. I owned a little red Wrangler for about 3 years and loved it. In short, I traded it for a minivan. Well, the prospect for trading back to a Wrangler is getting closer. Even if I love my new Jeep, nothing can ever take the place of that little red Wrangler in my heart. It was a treasure. So, now I'm looking, and not being a super-technical gal, would love any insights on the difference between the X and the Sahara. I'll get back when I've got more to tell.

Welcome! This section is for introductions, which you did very nicely, by the way. You also asked a question, but you'll get more responses if you go to the main discussion, "Wrangler IV." Please post your question there, and I know people will respond.

    Once again, welcome!

Now that the Club has opened up for all jeeps I thought I'd introduce myself.

I live in Winnipeg, MB, Canada and I drive a 2001 Cherokee Sport. It's pretty much loaded for a Sport and I've been slowly armoring it up with skids and hooks. I have a 2" lift coming soon and can't wait to replace the stock tires with something larger. Most the 4x4s around here are all fullsize Fords and Chevys with a handfull of lifted TJs and YJs.

I've never had more fun in a vehicle before and can't wait to get back out onto the trails once the temperature rises a little.

    Hello everyone.
I live in New Jersey (USA) and this is my first Jeep. I have come over from a fairly long line of Cadillac Fleetwoods & Lincoln Marks. Reason for the Jeep was I was tired of getting stuck in snow and slipping on ice in my rear drivers with too much torque for RWD. My Jeep will never see "off road" duty. If it does go off road, it will be a mall parking lot where it will be pressed into action climbing Speed Bumps! The only "trail" it will be on is my residential street, named Cleveland Trail, a paved 2-lane! I don't pull a trailer, a boat or a camper.
The purpose of it is to be able to get out when necessary in snowstorms and blizzards to get to work, shopping, Dr appointment and the usual stuff we all have to do.
So that I'd not notice I was in a JEEP (wife said "heavens") I ordered it from the factory with everything they could throw onto it. My dealer (who is just great) was petrified over the $30,215.00 window sticker for a XJ Cherokee!! He had Grand Cherokee Laredos in stock for cheaper! So among much more, it's a LIMITED with dual power, heated, leather seating, Cassette & CD & Graphic Eq. & Infinity Premium Audio & 16" wheel & tire Pkg & and sunscreen glass and cruise & tilt & a 25-piece black~burlwood interior trim kit & a tranny fluid oil cooler (dealer installed) and everything else that could be added except the Up Country & Heavy Duty packages.
It's Silver with dark grey interior. I like it very, very much. I realize that I am not using it to it's fullest potential, but it's delivering what I bought it for! Nice compliment to the Sixty-Special & the Mark VIII. It was built on April 26th, just 55 days prior to the final unit. 1984-2001 = 17 continuous years.

My name is Michelle, married to Joe, with a 13 year old daughter, Sacha. We live in Anchorage, Alaska but North Pole, AK is home. We have two dogs, a rottweiler and a husky mix, and a bird.

We are a two jeep family, starting with a gunmetal blue Wrangler Sport in 1999. We get a fair amount of snow and ice in the winter and I have never had a problem in the Wrangler. We don't even use studded tires because they just are not necessary!
Our Wrangler came with the dual tops, full carpet, a/c, cruise, 5 speed manual. We added a cd/cassette player and a speaker bar, passenger assist straps and running board/tubes.

I just got my Grand Cherokee two weeks ago, trading in my husband's 1997 GMC Sierra truck. I love it. It has every option available except the moveable pedals. My favorite is the heated power seats. It rides very smoothly, even over some of Anchorage's roughest roads! It is graphite metallic with a dark gray interior.

I could not pick a favorite between the two, it depends on my mood. I am very thankful to have one of each. Now when my daughter turns 16, maybe we should get her a Liberty... to complete the family! :-)

Hi Michelle, nice to meet a fellow Alaskan in here. My name is Jolie and I live south of Fairbanks, near Healy and have 2 children. My husband and I are a one Jeep family. We own a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee that we purchased from Anchorage Chrysler in November. Its been a wonderful Jeep, doesn't give us any trouble. Its a Laredo SE in Light Driftwood Satin Glow. My Jeep currently has 64K on it and is happiest when going offroad. I am so glad to have a Jeep again, I really missed owning a Jeep after I sold my 94 Grand Cherokee in 1997. In addition to the Jeep we have a 2002 Dodge Ram V-10 that we bought in April. We also have 3 cats and 3 horses. I hope the weather is better in Anchorage today than it was yesterday when I was there.
