    Hello,
I'm right up above you in the Upstate. A colleague at work commented recently about Phil Hughes Honda over in Athens, GA. They beat out the Upstate dealers on price and he was very satisfied with the experience. He's pretty sharp with money and I know that he did his homework. Most Hondas around here come from Piedmont in Anderson or Breakaway in Greenville. I've never heard anything really bad about either but I don't know how they are on price. I had an 89 Accord many years ago and used Piedmont and Vic Bailey in Spartanburg for service and was happy with both.

Someone mentioned East Coast in Myrtle Beach. I believe that they are owned by the same people as Piedmont in Anderson. not positive though.

As far as small towns go, in my experience there has been a lot less sales pressure. My worst experiences have been in the bigger towns.
The two places I visited a few years ago in Atlanta were snake pits; I wouldn't go back to either if they were $3000 less.
IF you do your homework, you will get a good deal most anywhere. The big difference in my opinion is the culture of the dealership and the BS you have to endure to get there.
In 1996, my FIL bought my SIL a new Accord. There was a $200 difference between the Florence dealer and the Bennettsville dealer. (Bennettsville is tiny. They must have had the franchise since the 70's. Smallest town to have a Honda dealer that I have ever come across.)

Let us know what you find out. I don't have a local dealer here. GSP, Anderson, Augusta, Columbia, and Athens are all about the same distance away from home. I might be in the market for an Accord next year and would be interested in what you find.

I got the deal at Hardin Honda in Anaheim. They are really cool to deal with. Check there website and get in contact with the guy from the Internet dept. There is only one guy in the internet dept there so it should be easy.

    Hi MVperez,

We just received an offer for a 2008 Accord LX-P/Automatic, OTD for 21,750.00. We live in East Stroudsburg, PA; we contacted Route 22 Honda in NJ and best they could do was 22,100.00. Does this deal seem fair?

Could anyone help me with buying an Accord in Houston,
Best offer I got from Houston dealers is still high compare to what others got
    Accord EX V4 Sedan $22,200
    Accord EX V6 Sedan $23,500
is that the best I could get in HOUSTON area?
    please help
    Thanks

    2008? 2009? You didn't specify.

By the way, the 4-cylinder isn't a "V4", it is an "Inline-4" or an "I4." Using the proper terms may influence the dealer to take you a little more seriously. Just trying to help. :)
  • veneetleveneetle Member Posts: 6
Thanks for your input, I'm looking for 2008. I though that all EX engines are V-Tech for Honda Accord.
I that price seem fair in Houston?
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
VTEC refers to (Variable Timing with Electronic Control).

The "V" in "V6" stands for the Vee shape of the cylinders, in 2 banks of 3. In a 4-cylinder, they are all in a row, or "inline" 4-cylinders.

Here is a V6 engine block, you can see where the pistons go, in a Vee formation.

    image

    Here is an "inline-4" engine.

    image

    I hope that helps!

Regarding prices... did those quotes include all taxes and fees? Details would help. :)
  • veneetleveneetle Member Posts: 6
    Thanks for your fast respond

The price include every thing except TT&L
    so it would be
    2008 Accord EX V4 Sedan $22,200 + TT&L
    2008 Accord EX V6 Sedan $23,500 + TT&L

    I got a quote by accident from a dealer out of CA for 2009 ($22,800 + TT&L)
It's even lower than the quote I form from Houston dealer for 2008 accord

What am I doing wrong? please help

see my following quotes: i am going to be brief, as i tried to post all the info as possible, but aftere typing like 2 pages of dift tips, the internet explorer stopped. The best quotes were 21700 from garden state honda, route 22 honda, and kay honda. now, that could be way much better for u, if you: don't have a trade in, because you live in PA becuase you only pay 6% vs our 7% taxes ($200 less or so). You don;t have to pay the mandatory 4yrs registration like in NJ ($200 less or so). so you do your own little math, all the other dealers were close like 21800-22000OTD. in your case, don't pay more 21-300-21500 OTD, becuase again, you may pay some sort of registration fees here, but if you are going to pay $22000 OTD get the 09 with a remote starter or so. That's way to much for an accor, i have seen the 21800-22000 OTD in NJ for the most part. so, there is not only one dealer in the States, try another one. good luck

The deal I got was from internet, so if u go directly u may not get it. Mine was 4 cylinder. 2008 Accord sedan EXL with Navi, price quoted $24,539.00 plus tax, tags, and $95.00 dealer doc fee. Good luck. Now I think you should get better quote as the clearance event is going on.
  • sactownsactown Member Posts: 5
I was quoted $23,800 + TTL for an 08 Accord EX-L I4 sedan from Mel Rapton of Sacramento, CA. I was wondering if that's a reasonable quote? Considering the 2009's are around the corner, I felt there was more room? Does anyone know when the 2009 are going to be in the dealers?
  • mplshondadlrmplshondadlr Member Posts: 409
The '09's have been available for about 30 days or so.
  • kendirrkendirr Member Posts: 8
So I have been looking for a 2008 Accord Sedan EX-L Manual 4-Cylinder with Nav in the Tri-State area of PA/NJ/DE and found that there are basically none available anymore. So I have turned my attention to a 2009. My lowest quote has been for $26435 ($700 over invoice+destination). However, I was told that this Accord configuration has not been produced yet and will not be produced until October (for November delivery). Does that ring true to you, mplshondadlr? I thought in a previous post that you stated there were some of these 2009's available in your region.

I am hoping to get down to at least invoice pricing on this car when the deal is made.

I just ment '09 Accords are available. Not a specific trim and transmission. Sorry for not making myself clear.

I just checked my build status for my dealership and we have one with a build date of 10/12 - 10/16 and that one is already sold. So yeah, that seems right to me.

Now to inject some persective from a dealer: I doubt you'll be able to buy at it invoice. When a dealer gets a limited number of vehicles to fill orders, there really is no incentive to discount it to invoice. $500-700 over is reasonable for both parities (IMO). However, I can not speak for dealers in your area. Just my .02.

I bought a '09 white diamond accord sedan w/navi last Friday. Paid 30,381.00 (without taxes). It also has the mud guards, paint sealant, pin striping, visor deflector, rear wing spoiler.
  • kendirrkendirr Member Posts: 8
Thanks, I appreciate your information and your insight. Just curious, would I be able to request a particular color combination or do dealers just get sent a random assortment?
  • macrodomemacrodome Member Posts: 6
Picked up my '09 Accord Sedan EXL V6 w/out Navi today.

Paid $27,060, includes destination ($500 over invoice + destination $670) Dealer threw in wheel locks.

Added one additional dealer option for $99 (guaranteed loaner car for service plus 10% discount on services)

Tax (7%- $1894), registration ($334), documentation ($219) extra. NJ charges $334, but that's for 4 years registration and inspection, which won't need to be done until 2012. There were some other minor fees that were under $20 so it wasn't worth arguing over.

Was not looking for the lowest rock bottom price, as I wanted to have the car serviced locally. Guaranteed loaner car for service over 1 hour was important. Was just looking for decent deal.

I really had to have an '09 and most dealers were pushing '08 inventory.

    For the OTD folks- $29,621.40.

Since so many of the folks on this board were helpful with what they were paying and being quoted, I thought I'd return the favor.
  • csr67csr67 Member Posts: 58
Why did you "have to have an 09"? Identicial car to the 2008 model. Dealers could care less where you bought your Honda, and they won't treat you any differently. I bought the same car as you last week in an 08 model for $2,205 less (Price including Destination). The two grand will rent a lot of cars for the very rare case where my car may be in the shop for other than a quick oil change. I can get a mid-size rental for $35 a day, so there's 63 "loaner" car days right there. I'd be shocked if my Accord needed 63 in-shop days during its' lifespan.

Here in northern CA, my friend was offered a 09 I-4, EX for invoice. So, they are already here!
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
My experience has been that you never know, even if you get a great deal from a dealer today, you may not be able to get the same deal from the same dealer a week from now. They operate based on various factors such as inventory, incentives, contests, quotas, etc. I would just email all the internet managers within a radius that you are comfortable with to travel, and get your best deal based on that.
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
There is still some room in that. Currently, the easier to find 08's are going for about $500 below invoice in Sacramento area. BTW, the 09's are already out. Elk Grove Honda offered an 09 I4 Ex to a friend of mine at invoice, he opted for the 08 because of the 1.9% financing and also got $400 below invoice.

    What dealership in PA?
  • viktervikter Member Posts: 2
Purchased August 16,2008 from Russell & Smith Honda in Houston TX

2008 Honda Accord EX-L V6 without Navi (no additional accessories)

    MSRP $28,730
    Price $25,339.82
    Sales Tax $1,583.74
    Dealer Inventory Tax $53.39
    Inspection and Title Fee $56.75
    License Fee $72.30
    Documentary Fee $50.00
    Drive Out $27,156.00

I showed the dealer a printout of the Honda Care extended warranties on https://www.myhondawarranty.com They offer 8 years / 120,000 miles extended warranty with $0 deductible for $995. The dealer refused to match it stating that $995 is the dealer's cost. The dealer offered it for $1095 and I offered to split the difference. I ended up buying this for an additional $1045. Honda Warranty code is D82.

I prepared by reading this forum and so here is my contribution back to this forum. I encourage everyone who beleives that they negotiated a better deal because of this forum to please post the final sale price, taxes, fees, and drive out price. Good Luck on buying your next car!

I've been driving a '97 Infiniti I30. I got an internet quote on an '08 for $24355 + $670. I could have purchased the '08 and as soon as I drove it off the lot, I'd have a one year old car. If I'm going to have it for another 10 years, I want the pleasure of driving a new car for at least the first year. I decided I was going to buy a car in June but I wanted a new model.

It may not make sense, I admit it is an emotional thing, but as I said, I was not after the lowest price. The loaner car thing was only $99 and I listed it in case someone was adding up the numbers. I just posted for folks that might be looking at '09's.

I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that will make better deals. I just decided what I was willing to pay to get what I wanted now, made an offer and bought the car. I can now enjoy driving what I wanted- totally emotional- not economic based, I'll admit.

All automatic, and like i said, anyone should be able to get better prices, as the trims and colors available for the 08 are limited by the dealers, is the end of the month and another quater, so they need those cars out of the lot ASAP

I am going to a dealership today and didn't know what was a reasonable amount to pay for the lx or lxp. The dealership said they have 18 of these cars.

Should I go with the 2008 or 2009? Aren't they basically the same?

This is my first post and I've never bought a Honda so I'm not exactly sure what I should do to get the best car for the best price.

    Thanks,

    Michelle in Tx
  • csr67csr67 Member Posts: 58
    Michelle,

Personally, I would never set foot into a dealership without having first obtained an internet "quick quote" from several dealers. That way you'll know what your price is without all the back/forth games, and it's highly likely that you won't be able to beat the internet offered price. No difference between the 08 and 09 Accords. If you're ok having an 08, you'll save about $1k and have better Honda finance offerings as well. For the v6 I bought last week, they had 0.9% on 08's only...Rates on the 4 cyl will be higher.
  • goosey111goosey111 Member Posts: 4
Thank you for the info. I'm ok with the 2008 because I will use it as my work car. I travel about 100 miles a day round trip. I am just looking for a car that is reliable and will last me for at least 200,000 miles.

I will email several dealerships in my area for prices. Do they actually give you amounts via email?

Again, thanks for your help. I was pretty much clueless! :)

Absolutley! I emailed six area dealerships, and got quotes back quickly, often within the hour. Just be careful to compare apples/apples. Make sure that their quote includes the destination charge. They will all start calling you to follow-up, but just say you've decided on something else. The price they give you should be the car plus destination. The other tax, title, license fees should be the same for all dealers. I found my best price, picked the dealer, did the test drive and was done. No stress, no games, no B.S.

    Macro,

I get what you are saying. I'm sort of in the same boat. I'm driving a 2000 accord and almost pulled the trigger on an 08 this week. I changed my mind and decided to wait for a 2009. I too keep my cars for 8 plus years and didn't feel like buying a new 08 and then knowing 2 weeks later my car is already considered a year old.

The only difference with me is I'm going to wait to buy the 09 until I can get it for around invoice price.

Part of the extra $$ you paid now for a 2009 you will get back on the back end when you can sell it for more than an 08.
  • sactownsactown Member Posts: 5
Thanks for the info on Elk Grove Honda. I went through their internet department and was quoted $23,700 for the same car (Accord EX-L 4 cylindar sedan). But they don't have my color. The info on an 09 at invoice was helpful.
  • dazz87dazz87 Member Posts: 19
so youre telling me 4 yrs from now if I want to sell my 09 I will get 3k more then a 08? the 3k (invoice and fin %). The only different between the 09 vs 08 is horsepower, which is 3. The 09 and 08 both look the same. I believe you may get $1000 - $1,500 more if you sell a 09 vs an 08. I was going to wait for the 09 but after doing the math I ended up saving 3k on my 08
  • csr67csr67 Member Posts: 58
You're spot on for your evaluation of the buy 08 or 09.... If you keep the car for a while, it will have little if any affect on the resale. Buy the 08 now, save a bundle compared to an 09, and it will always be a "low mileage" 08 compared to a higher mileage 09.

I good one quote of ACCORD EX-L 4 CYL. factory equipped
    08 EX-L 22,750 ,
    09 EX-L 23,250
The dealer told me OTD price for both are all around 24,500. My tax rate is 6%

It's my best deal so far. All the ohter quote are all 1000 higher for 08 model and 3000 more for 09.

    I think it's a great deal if I go get a 09, isn't ? :lemon:

I have always bought the current year when buying this late in the year that way I have a real low mileage 08 instead of a no body wants my 30,000 miles more car than anybody else has 09. I drive alot and that may make a difference.

Heck yes!! The 08's are going for well below the Edmunds TMV and invoice prices. Got my 08 EXL v6 for $1231 under invoice last week. Here's a comparison 2008 Accord Sedan EXL v6 w/o Navi.

    MSRP: $28,730
    Edmunds TMV: $27,048
    Invoice: $26,086

    My price on 8/22: $24,855.
