I don't know about the prices, though there may be some posts in past pages, but as for the manual shifter on the Accord, it's like butter. It's so smooth and very tight. I personally love it. My only gripe is that the clutch is a bit long but not nearly as long as my '85 Escort I drove in college with an oil IV. So yeah it's a sweet stick!

Here is the deal I have worked out.

2005 Silver EX-L with XM Manual Tran & added protection package sedan
OTD is 23000 so it brings actual sale price to about 211XX. I live in Southern Cal and tax here is about 7.75%

What do you guys think? Should I play with this more or walk away?

    Thanks

Can anyone recommend a good Honda Dealership around the Miami area?
Looking for a no-nonsense straight up type of dealer (if there is such a thing).
Willing to travel outside the area for a great deal/service.
    Thanks in advance.

Okay, anyone else think this quote is a bit on the high side?

Looking at an '06 Accord coupe EX 4-cyl/auto in graphite. Dealer is quoting $500 over invoice (which is about $21,500) plus destination, 5% MD tax, tags. I'm getting body side molding, mud guards, pin stripe and wheel locks added. Price out-the-door is just over $23,900 (which is the actual MSRP on the sticker).

I was hoping to get the car for a little closer to invoice. Maybe just $100-200 over. And I haven't even contemplated an extended warranty yet. I really can't see spending nearly $25,000 total for this car.

    Thoughts?

I can't say enough about this forum. The information that I leaned help us in so many ways. We ended up getting a good deal, with a competitive loan rate, and a very competitve extended warranty. I strongly urge that you take the time to go to the extended warranty forum for hondas. What I learned from that alone saved us at least a thousand dollars! We did opt for the extended package because of all the electronic equipment on the car. So thanks again and happy car shopping1

What dealership in So Cal? I have a quote for an 05 ex v6 for 22973 (to be exact). It's an automatic. Sounds pretty decent to me, what does everybody else think?

The dealership was family honda in rancho santa margarita. Is the 22973 OTD? Sounds like you got a better deal.

Not OTD, I still have to add ttl. I think it will be around 25000 if I do it. So basically 2gs more for the v6. Thanks for the dealership info.

I have received several (5) internet qoutes today from various dealerships in my state. The lowest quote I received was $25718.00 with a total OTD of $26771.00. What do you think? The price looks higher to me than what others on the board have been receiving in quotes. I recently totaled my car so I will be purchasing soon. I would really appreciate any input you have. Thanks!

I have a price (before fees and taxes) of $20,300 for a new 2005 honda EX. This is new, but a model year old vehicle. The MSRP is $23500 on this car. What is about the best I should be able to do pricewise on this car?

    blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    smcclenahan,

Since $23,500 is not a listed MSRP for any version of a 2005 Accord EX, it's impossible to answer your question without you providing more information.

Are you buying an EX sedan or coupe?
Are you buying an EX with four or six cylinder engine?
Are you buying an EX with a manual or automatic transmission?
Are you buying an EX with a cloth or leather interior?

A friend of mine owns a Honda Accord with low miles and in relatively good shape.
She is not sure what to expect when she goes to the dealership to return the car.
Is there anyone here with some personal knowledge of turning in a lease car that might be able to give some tips? She is concerned that the dealership will try to charge her bogus fees etc...
Your input is greatly apprectiated. Thank you.

got some valuable info from this board and just wanted to share that i paid $17,900 incl destination for a 2005 Honda Accord LX SE Coupe AT. also had an offer of $17,699 from another dealer. initial quotes ranged from $18,999 to $18,049. this is in the philadelphia area.

I paid 17,796 (including destination) at Airport Marina Honda in Los Angeles. Total, out the door, was 19500. CA tax was 8.25% plus title and DMV fees. Seemed to be a good price, and they had the color I wanted. A lot of dealers in this area only had the beige color left, which I didn't want. Price was also the lowest I received via online quotes.

I am thinking of buying a Accord LX AT Sedan 05 to save some money as compared to the 06? are there any significant disadvantages to this? (I am OK with somewhat different backlight style and other cosmetic differences)

Also now that the 05s are not the latest accord models - would a price of $17, 900 justify buying an older model? My friend bought the same config for $17, 300 a month back but I can't get that price any longer.

All the price are pre-tax and pre-fees

    Thanks

Just recently I read an article about whether buying leftover '05 models were financially a better decision than getting an '06. It laid out several scenarios and in most situations, buying the leftover model wasn't a significantly better deal.

Here's how I look at it- the '06 Accord is significantly different looking than the '05. Technically, though they're both brand new, the '05 is really a year old. If you tried to sell or trade in two years from now, the '05 would be three years old and the '06 two years old. The '06 would be worth significantly more money both because it's a year newer and it's a "refreshed" look.

You should be able to get an '06 LX AT for $19,000 or a little less. That's about $1000 more than the '05 you mentioned.

If you're going to keep the car four years or more, I'd say go with whichever car you like better. The difference in payment will only be about $25 a month. If you don't think you'll keep it that long, go with the '06. Another plus for the '06 is that you'll be able to get it in any color they offer as opposed to just what they have left (if that matters to you).

    Good luck shopping!

    Thanks for the quick reply.
Could you elaborate - '06 Accord is significantly different looking than the '05? I just recently started researching cars and the only difference I noticed was the redesigned rear lights in the 06.

Also if you have a link to the comparison article - please post it.

    Thanks

The rear is the main change, but it's significant in my opinion. The '06 is a better looking design.

I can't recall where I read that article, but I'll keep looking for it. I don't remember if it was online or in a magazine. If I find it in the next few days, I will post a link for you.

I'm looking to buy one soon and was wondering if anyone has direct experience with this specific model. I've already found some good info here, but it's all been for automatic equipped cars and I'd like to know if I can expect the same type of discount. Minneapolis area would be great!

    Thanks!

My advice to you is to wait until a couple dealers have one you would want to buy. I purchased a 6-speed coupe (in Mpls) back in February for a couple hundred over invoice. Not a bad deal, but i didn't really have any room to negotiate, since the car i was dealing on was the only one in the state with a manual (luckily it was the color i wanted). When i went to buy a new CR-V this summer, i waited until Brookdale & RBHonda both had manual tranny models in stock. Then i was able to get it at invoice with accessories thrown in. I didn't like dealing with RBHonda, I ended up working with a guy at Brookdale who was real straightforward. You may want to call the dealers in Chicago to see if they have one in stock, unfortunately even they didn't have one back in Feb.

There are actually some in town and a few more on the way in so I've got some nice choices out there. However, not every dealer has them. I also ran into a nice sales guy at Brookdale as well as at Buerkle. Only sales guy that really turned me off was one at RB.

Best price I've been quoted so far was $25,395 including destination. But I was also told afterward that they have some room (of course...)

    Thanks!

    Anyone else?

The wife and I have been shopping for a new 2006 Accord 4 door v6. Thank you to all of you on the forum board for your help. I have been lurking for a while now and you guys are full of great information on what model to choose. Finally after deciding what car to buy, we decided to go shopping around town, with plans to buy that day (Saturday). We went to the Honda dealer in Oneonta, NY (Scoville) and were treated terribly. The wife and I could not believe how rude the salesman was and he barely seemed like he even wanted to sell us a car. He didn't take us seriously, I guess because we may not look like we have a lot of $$$. Not everybody wears a three piece suit when they are on their day off or not on call. We did finally get a price from the salesman. What a joke. The wife and I left the store after being insulted by the rude manager that tried to talk us into the vehicle at their "best price". I was so upset that we immediately drove to Miller Honda in Vestal, NY to see what they could do. Completely different experience! The salesman greeted us in a friendly manner, and gave us a complete demonstration of the vehicle, he actually knew more than me about the car, thats alot! We went on a nice test drive, came back and I thought, here we go, time to get insulted again. Not so, our salesman was polite, got all our information, then he asked us what we were looking for in terms of a discount, I lowballed him and then he went to the manager, and came back with a reasonable counteroffer. We made another offer, and he came back and we had a deal. Great deal on the car I wanted, no hassle, nice people, and a great car. I may sound like an ad for the dealership, and thats right. I had a great experience and I'll tell everybody I know.

The price difference between them are $2000 from my research.
The best OTD prices I got are $19,000 for '05 and $21,000 for '06.

The other differences between 2005 and 2006 include: tail light looks ( I personally like 2005 much better! ), engine ( 06 gains 6 hp more than 2005), and daytime running light ( for 06 ).

That's what I know for their differences. Hope it helps!

Actually the 4 cyl. engine has gained about 10 more hp. Honda, along with some other companies are using the new SAE standard for measuring an engines hp. The engine in the 2006 has had upgrades to the intake and exhaust to allow more hp and have the torque peak about 500 rpm lower. :D

It was Honda Village in Newton, MA. They have $258 doc fee. They didn't have it in stock but managed to get it from another dealership. Bernardi Honda offered $200 less (+198 doc fee).

I had to make the same decision between an '05 and '06 LX Sedan AT in Minneapolis. My choice was easily decided because I was quoted $17,500 for the '05 (incl doc fees + all dealer fees) before tax & registration and $19,400 for the '06. To me the one year upgrade was not worth the $1900 difference. For as long as I plan to keep this car, the resale value for the year difference shouldn't be too different. I may have felt differently if they didn't have the color that I wanted in the '05 but they did and I am very happy with the '05. Even though the design is a year old, I still got a brand new car with 15 miles on it.

    1) I'm talking to a dealer who is quoting the following for a VP (no options) in the Seattle area:
    $18,995 (=MSRP)
Is this a good price? The dealer refuses to go down. Do you folks know of others that paid closer to invoice for 2006 models?

    2) Sales tax in our state is 8.8% but this dealer is charging 10.8% citing "state auto tax add-on". Does this sound reasonable to you?

    Hi,
    I got a quote of $19,409 from Carsdirect.com for 2006 Accord LX/AT/4-Door Sedan.
Most dealerships that are not dealing with Cardirect.com are quoting about $500 more. Being a first-time buyer, I am wondering if the dealership which Carsdirect.com points me to, for the above price, will make up for the seemingly lower price on Service Agreement, i.e. post-purchase maintenance.
So, I wanted to ask the experts, what is a reasonable service agreement? Any pointers? What is a reasonable price to pay for such maintenance?
I ask, since, the price that Carsdirect.com is promising will cover only Price+Tax+Vehicle Registration + Documentation + Inspection. It will not say anything about after-purchase service.
I have no idea what is reasonable. Please help. Thanks a lot for your time.
    Tunku.

I wanted to clarify that the $19,409 price is only the base price, on top of which, there will be the rest, i.e. Tax+Vehicle Registration + Documentation + Inspection.
My post may have been unclear on that.

    Thanks a lot.

    1) No, from what I have read, you may be able to get a price closer to invoice.
    2) "state auto tax add-on"? BS in my opinion

I personally wouldn't buy a service agreement or extended warranty through the dealer, and purchase of such an extended warranty should not become a condition of the sale. If you want an extended warranty, get it from Honda or a well rated independent provider such as Mercury Insurance (I have no affiliation with them).

What I did was to get the dealer to agree to a final price before tax, including all fees that they charge, before even heading over to see the car. After negotiating the price, I persisted and got them to waive all other fees. All I paid was registration & tax on my price of $17,400 for my '05 LX AT and I told them up front that would be no deal if I had to pay a penny over. It doesn't hurt to imply that you have other options or that another dealership is matching their offer. In my case I did have another dealer who had offered the same in another state so I was negotiating from a position of strength but was relieved that the local place matched it as then I didn't have to make a trip to get the car.
