    Thinking that the CR-V is pretty plain looking and in an effort to personalize mine - I have added the following accessories:

    * OEM Rear Spoiler
    * OEM Hard Spare Cover (painted to match body color)
    * OEM Side & Rear Sports Trim
    * OEM Muffler Tip
    * Manik Stainless Steel Tail Light Guards
    * Stainless Steel Head Light Guards
    * COBRA Bull Guard
    * OEM Tweeter / Woofer / Coaxial Speaker Upgrades
    * OEM Full Alarm System
    * WeatherTech WeatherFlector window guards
    * Tinted windows all around
    * Passenger Arm Rest
    * OEM Nose Mask
    * OEM Cargo Cover and Mat
    * All-Red Tail Lights

    Some of the eTailers sites I've frequented which are not in any specific order):

    1) http://www.hparts.com

    2) http://hondapartsforyou.com

    3) http://www.HandA-Accessories.com

    4) http://www.hondago.com

    5) http://www.partscheap.com

    6) http://tops4less.com (specifically COBRA Side Bars / Grill Guards)

    7) http://www.autostyles.com ( specifically Manik - tail light guards )

    8) http://www.macneilauto.com ( specifically WeatherTech brand WeatherFlectors )

    9) http://www.ebay.com ( search under both CR-V and CRV - for various products & 'goodies' )

    10) http://www.creverything.com

    11) http://www.jjproducts.net

    12) http://www.autodynamic.com ( look closely - tends to be 'OEM-like' vs. true OEM quality product )

    13) http://autoseattle.com

    Keep in mind that a lot of these sites have very competitive pricing, so Customer Service and no Shipping & Handling can be the determining factor !

    Just my $ .02 - god knows that's all I have left from all my accessorizing !

    has anyone tried the rear ground mirror
    from autodynamic.com ???

    where else can i buy them ground mirror?

    i'm really interested because city-parking
    requires skill and excellent distance judgement.
    i want to learn how to get out of a 1" space
    between front/rear bumpers... =)

    You can try creverything.com. There is also a chap out on eBay selling 'rare Japanese' accessories that if you open one of his auction pages it has a link to his home site with this item listed....supposedly less than retail. I noticed that all the pics he has look awfully familiar to autodynamic.com. Beware that autodynamic.com sells a lot of 'OEM-like' products with some of the members over at the CRV-IX (hondasuv.com) being displeased with the lack of quality and customer service. This mirror is kind of a cool novelty item that I have considered - glad to see that someone can actually use the functionality.

    Good Luck !!

    A couple of years ago, when I was shopping for my CR-V, the high brake lights of this vehicle were a discussion topic that was floating around. Some commented that some drivers may miss them, leading to a rear-end collision. Anyway, I think I've somewhat addressed this by mounting a couple of additional brake lights beneath the rear bumper (in virtually the same lateral axis as the tailpipe). Of course, I realize that I couldn't stop all the stupid drivers out there even if I had the Vegas Strip hanging off my tailgate. :)

    Here is what people behind me will see now when the brakes are applied:

    (Hey, I'm the first to post a pic in this discussion too! )

    She looks good. Mind me asking how much?

    As long as were sharing pics... These are the latest mods to Buster. Silly, but fun.

    Total cost for me was about $35. (The lights by themselves were $15 from Pep Boys.) The bulk of the rest of the cost was spent on mounting hardware (nothing special or custom), wire and tap/slide connectors at Wal-Mart (possibly overpriced, but I didn't feel like driving into Houston to my favorite hobbyist store this week). If you are the type that just happens to have spools of 14 gauge wire lying around and doesn't mind soldering everything together, then you could do it for cheaper than I did. I opted for slide connectors so I could readily undo the wiring if I had to.

    How much were those nozzles again? The cost of shipping would probably mean I'd save money by locating them locally. It's still possible to have a little fun and still meet the vehicle code. :)
  • dudkadudka Member Posts: 451
    did anyone try to put those driving lights in the back? firstly for backing up in the dark, secondly to blind people who don't have enough decency to dim their high beams when coming up behind me. I was thinking of cheapie K-mart, wll--mart brand. how did you mount the lights?
  • varmitvarmit Member Posts: 1,125
    Thanks. I may look into a set of those myself. I like the UK-style ones (in bumper mounting), but it's too expensive. This would be a nice way to get simialr function without all the cost.

    The silly wiper lights were about $20-25, but you can probably get something like them on E-bay for less. I spent another $7 on in-line fuses and a dash switch.

    Typically, these are installed so that they light up with your head lamps. I didn't want mine on all the time, so I installed the wires through the fire wall and put a switch in the dash (with its own little light).

    This way I can drive in stealth mode and sneak up behind those slammed Civics before I zap 'em from behind. My next project is to install one for the rear wiper. :-)

    Here they are in action...

    image

    They are pretty expensive (total coat was appx.$250.00) and require that you cut the bumper to install them in the original location. However I think that they look great and I love the fact that they are original. Wiring is easy as you can hook them up to the trailer harness located behind the d/s rear speaker.

    Any questions feel free to e-mail me...

    I had considered the trailer harness for the hookup point, but the wires running to the stock tail lamps seem to work just fine too.

    So here's my question... Anybody ever install this stuff? I was planning on doing the front floors and doors, but I'm wondering if anyone else has suggestions. Thanks!

    Can anybody tell me how to remove the distribution rotor from my 1997 cRV? I bought a replacement part but could not take the old one away.

    how much did you pay for the tweeters, and where did you ge them from?
    I am thinking of getting the whole speaker upgrade package from www.handa-accessories.com the front, rear and tweeters are like $130 or something.
    i already have installed the subwoofer system, bing should post the write up soon on www.hondasuv.com , now i am ready for the mids and highs.
  • barnonebarnone Member Posts: 118
    i purchased from www.handa-accessories.com... i just
    opted for the tweeter kit instead of the whole
    package upgrade coz i'm low in budget.

    i would strongly recommend that you review the DIY
    instructions/illustrations from www.hondasuv.com
    *thoroughly* to spare you from a lot of grief.

    Hi Folks,
    I recently bought a 2001 CRV LX but without
    keyless entry. It costs an extra $350(?)from
    the dealership. I've seen handa accessories.com
    selling it for $66 (apparently, the receiver in
    the car is factory-installed in all CRVs). All
    you need is to buy the transmitter and program it.
    Is this true? I wonder how one CRV will be uniquely unlocked by a generic transmitter. Thanks
    for any help!! - Robert
  • varmitvarmit Member Posts: 1,125
    Yep, it's true. All you need to do is program the receiver.
  • dudkadudka Member Posts: 451
    i have seen the FOB's going for $20

    Does anybody has an instructions in programming the factory transmitter/key fob for the keyless entry of a 2001 CRV? Could you please post it here? Thanks a lot...
  • theracoontheracoon Member Posts: 666
    http://www.handa-accessories.com has the instructions online in Adobe Acrobat format:

    The programming instructions start on page 3 of the document.

    Hi folks,
    I have a 2001 cr-v se and am looking for an add-on remote starter that will work happily with the existing remote entry system. Does anyone have any information on this? I'm going to install it myself and want to use the same key fob that came with the V. Is there a place where I can find the wiring diagram for the factory remote entry module? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

    I just purchased a 2001 CR-V. Has anyone installed a retractable cargo cover by themselves?
    I'm thinking of attempting this...also is the retractable worth the extra money over the non-retractable cover?
  • dranoeldranoel Member Posts: 79
    Recently installed a manual rectractable CRV luggage cover--a piece of cake and it works fine. Personally I can't justify the more deluxe cover.
  • varmitvarmit Member Posts: 1,125
    I think it comes down to personal preference. Here's one man's review of the retractable.

  • dudkadudka Member Posts: 451
    i am thinking of getting one my self as well, but the instructions call for the panel removal in the back and cutting holes into it. i am kind of put off by that, but still interested. also the price is a big factor, $140 or so for retractable versus $70 for regular cover. just installed the most important mod on my V, one of the holidays gifts was a "CRVIX" sticker. now it is proudly displayed next to my"WOW" sticker, lol

    The Canadian version of the 2002 CR-V has an outside air temp readout on the Odometer. The temperature sensor is located inside the front bumper. I live in northern Minnesota and sometimes knowing the outside temperature can be important.

    Does anyone have any idea whether it would be possible and practical to try to get this feature working on my American V 2002?
  • varmitvarmit Member Posts: 1,125
    I suspect it would be easier to to install an aftermarket version. I know that it may not have the same integrated look as the OEM temp gauge, but I'd guess it's worth the difference. To install the OEM, you may need to either modify or replace the gauge cluster and run wires through the firewall. Aftermarket devices are designed to make install easier.
  • jlyonmnjlyonmn Member Posts: 8
    Being the eternal optomist, I was hoping that the wiring was already in place, and just required the addition of a thermocouple in the bumper or some such easy fix.

    Happy new year!

    I ordered a front tower brace for my 2001 CRV. The company charged my credit card but never sent the order. And it is impossible to get hold of him. Maybe he has caller id and for those he chooses to screw over he doesn't answer the phone. I've left messages, faxed, but still no answer, no confirmation, receipt, or UPS tracking #. The only time I talked to him was the day the charge posted to my account and he said that the order had shipped 'yesterday' and that I would get it in 3 days ground UPS. But it never came. I filed with the Better Busines Bureau and disputed with my credit card company. And according to some people on Hondasuv.com he (Jon Mandel aka Manb) has done this before. So do not do business with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Does the EX come with Leather seats? I am (strangely enough) getting different answers from 2 different dealers. The specs do not mention either. Thanks.
  • rburnardrburnard Member Posts: 28
    No, the US 2002 models do not come standard with leather seats and they are not available as an option. Only the Canadian EX-L has standard leather.
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
    Swpe8 - Rburnard is correct. Here in the US, The EX comes with cloth. The dealer that is telling you leather is an option is probably trying to sell you aftermarket leather (which may be better, but could also be more expensive).

    Just thought I'd give some feedback on ordering accessories on my 2002 CR-V. I rejected the high priced accessories our dealer wanted to sell us for the CR-V. I went to www.handaacessories.com and they had every original Honda Accessory for the CR-V. I ordered the metal look dash trim kit, cross bars for the roof rack, hard spare tire cover, cargo cover, cargo tray and a cargo net. Their price was 1/3 of what the dealer wanted and significantly less then Honda's list price. I received the order in less then one week with ground shipping with everything correct.
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
    HandAaccessories has been a strong supporter of the on-line CR-V community. Other aftermarket suppliers like Hparts.com and even dealerships have sponsored a number of CR-V meets around the US. Edmunds even donated t-shirts that have been used at several events. The list is long.

    Get yourself to some of our upcoming meets and share your experience with the rest of us. You may even win more accessories for your 'V. =)

    I purchased the factory keyless entry system from Handa-Accessories and I am having a little trouble getting the dashboard pocket out. I have sent Handa 3 e-mails asking if they had any advice and they have not responded (I am very disappointed by their lack of customer service). Has anyone here tried installing this?
  • moretjmoretj Member Posts: 13
    I'm new this board but I may be interested in purchasing a 01/02 HCRV. I have a bike carrier which attaches to a hitch and can carry up to 4 bikes. I understand the HCRV will only accommodate a CLASS 1 Hitch. I'm getting different feedback from the dealerships - ie. Class 1 hitch is too small for my bike carrier whereas others indicate a Class 1 hitch will carry 1,000 1lbs. Does anyone have any input on this subject. I don't want to buy roof mounted bike carrier due to inconvenience.
  • theracoontheracoon Member Posts: 666
    A generic Class 1 hitch can tow a maximum of 2,000 lbs, although the 2002 CR-V in the USA is only rated by Honda for 1,500 lbs (1997-2001 US CR-Vs were rated at only 1,000 lbs).

    What you're really asking about is "tongue weight", how much weight the tongue of the trailor can press down onto the hitch. I don't have the exact numbers handy, but it's probably in the 150-200 lb range. The total weight of the bike carrier and all the bikes shouldn't exceed the tongue weight.

    The other thing to be concerned about is that Class I hitches use 1 1/4" receivers. If your bike carrier is a 2" it won't fit.

    Good luck and let us know how it goes.

    I want to carry my kayak on a 2002 CR-V and noticed that my usual racks won't do on the V. Has anyone found any aftermarket racks which will fit this vehicle?

    Installed this accessory in just minutes. The first time I tried to pull out the dashboard pocket I tried with two hands but it didn't budge, then I put one hand in the center of the pocket made a fist pulled out evenly and it popped out.

    Hello People,

    Please forgive me for the 3 long questions:

    1) Honda says they can install an engine disabling alarm for $459.00. I have co-workers and friends who have gone to alarm places and gotten ones that also autostart their vehicles. Honda told me this would violate my Warranty should an electrical problem occurr. What are your experiences with this?

    2) Also, has anyone looked at the Mechanical Breakdown Insurance that Geico offers? It's $12-14 every 6 months with a $250 deductible per repair. With honda's good records this may be an acceptable safety net.

    3) What is everyone's experience with the Honda Subwoofer's & Tweeters? This is, again, a case where Honda warns me about violating warranties.

    Thank you,
  • theracoontheracoon Member Posts: 666
    Anytime you make modifications to something on your vehicle you run the risk, however small, of damaging the vehicle. For example, if you install an alarm (or have someone else install it) and you then have electrical problems, Honda may not honor the warranty on electrical components and blame the alarm installer for the problem. They would still be required to honor the warranty for non-electrical problems.

    I'm with GEICO and have the Mechanical Breakdown Warranty. I hope I never need it, and probably won't with my CR-V, but with my last vehicle the "computer" shorted out just before I reached 90,000 miles and also destroyed the fuel injection system. Because I had the GEICO coverage the $2,500+ expense cost me $250. And since it wasn't an accident claim it didn't affect my premiums. Just remember that there are limits to the coverage, in terms of months and miles.

    Theracoon, Thanks for replying to my post.

    I think I will go with the Geico Warranty. I'll think on the Alarm for next week or so (They won't have a CRV for me until June).

    I checked out the http://www.handa-accessories.com/ site. I will probably buy my Cargo Cover, Wheel locks and anything else I think I might be able to install without screwing up. Things like Bodycladding & Roofrack I'll have to do with the dealer.

    Take care, all.

  • crv139crv139 Member Posts: 41
    you can put the roof rack on ur self and save the money, all u do is pop off the plastic and screw the rack on. very easy. No need for the alarm. no one pays any attention to them when they go off due to the fact so many are false alarms. get the fog lights instead they are cool.
