What are the prices for 2006 Camry going in SF Bay Area region. I do see a $1000 rebate. Planning to buy camry instead of corolla or civic. Anyone got a 2006 Camry recently in and arond this area?
  • jefftownjefftown Member Posts: 8
Anyone bought a car similar to 2006 Camry XLE v6 ( with leather, side airbag, etc.)? MSRP: $28,550. Invoice: $25,593.

Any comments about the reasonable price will be much appreciated?

    Hello ttcc06,

Walnut Creek Toyota has standard Camrys going at $15,9XX(after rebate), plus TTL. Le camrys @ 16,6XX. (I can not recall the exact figures, but if you check the paper or their website. These figures are very tempting.

Capitol Toyota has LE camry for %16,588 or so, plus ttl after rebate.

    Hope this helps.

Anyone know what is the dealership invoice price on this? We all know that's what the "true" price of the dealer paid to Toyota to get the car. The absolute bottom price would be that price minus all the dealer holdback and TDA fees etc etc

Anyone could offer some hint here? ;)
  • thcc06thcc06 Member Posts: 3
    Hi Tinatina,

I didn't find advertisment on paper or internet of capitol toyota on the price you mentioned. Could you let me know where to find this.

Do you think the prices would be going down further by next weekend or thereafter. I suspect the 2007 is on its way by March early.
  • tinatinatinatina Member Posts: 388
    Sorry ttcc06,

It may have been Stevens Creek Toyota. However, their price excluded the mat package (floor and trunk mats.) It was in the Mercury New's Saturday edition, but I think it may have been in the Sports Section. Walnut Creek Toyota had the better value because their vehicle included the mat package for about $60 more.

I doubt prices will be going down any further on the 06s unless larger rebates are offered. I'm still debating between the 2006 and the 2007, but if I go with the 2007, I don't plan on buying until May (memorial day weekend).

You also mentioned possibly being interested in a Corolla. I saw those for around $12.9K to $13.9k. Personally, I like the new Civic better.

    Best of luck.

Here in IRA toyota MA, I was able to find a Camry automatic LE for 17k before TTL. There were only 3 colors to choose from and it contains no extra options. Shopping today presidents days is a pain, because of long wait times even after settling on a price. I don't see what's the big sale during holidays. You still have to negotiate every day for the same price.

Bought a blue camry SE V6 with Premium package and leather this weekend.

Started at Magnusen's Toyota, Palo Alto, had a great test-drive, good salesman, although it wasn't in the car I wanted. Unfortunately, they didn't have the car in stock, although they kept insisting that they could get it. We negotiated all of five-minutes on the price ($24,000 after rebate + TTL), they flinched, and wouldn't come down any more.

Then we waited an hour or so while they kept insisting that they could find it. They couldn't. We waited, they couldn't. They were desparate because they knew the checkbook was open. But they couldn't find one or couldn't get some other dealer to trade. So finally we walked. Which was a bummer, because they had been really good to work with. I'm pretty sure that $24,000 was the best the could do.

Went to Toyota of Fremont, which we knew had a car that matched out description. They matched the $24,000 without batting an eye (so I think we could have done a little better there.)

Unfortunately, the tried the old "add the rebate then subtract it scam", and we had to get a manager in there to demonstrate that they were wrong. I was very ready to walk. Very very ready. But in the end I decided I would just show it on their survey.

Then they made us wait for an entire hour for the F&I guy, insisting that he would be with us very soon. And so we did walk.

They called us in a panic that night, and offered to deliver the car to our house across the bay, with the finance contracts. So we let them. And we now own a 2006 Camry SE V6 with leather and premium package for $24,000 after rebate.

I am absolutely sure we could have ground Fremont toyota's fleet department for a couple hundred more, but I'm pretty sure that was the bottom line at Toyota Palo Alto.

I just wish Toyota Palo Alto could have found the car. I would much rather have given them the business.

Is TTL = Targeted Trade Leads? Is that a price paid by consumer always? I saw a few post keeping saying "price before TTL", and I just wanna understand it clearly before start throwing terms at the salesman.

    Thank! :confuse:

    Hi,

    Thanks again.

How would you all compare different dealers based on their after sales service - how is stevens creek / capitol and toyota sunnyvale?
  • kelvamkelvam Member Posts: 20
    Thank you very much!

So when we are comparing the price before TTL, would I be accurate to say that we are looking at:
    1) the price that's been marked up after the "real" dealership invoice price
    2) with the Destination Charge and TDA (toyota advertisment fee?), and
    3) your options selected?

Is there any kind of other hidden fees? I am still learning to see how should I negotiate when there's a dealer holdback offered by Toyota to the dealership, or when there's a rebate (e.g. $750 currently available on Camry).

Thank for all the help! :shades:
  • kelvamkelvam Member Posts: 20
Oh also, other than Edmunds (this site), Automotive and KBB, what other sites provide accurate pricing information? The dealership that I'm negotiating try to give me a higher price than I asked for, and saying that CarsDirect is offering that price and it's "good".

So many online resources is making it a bit confusing...
  • jefftownjefftown Member Posts: 8
    gallileo,

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am looking for a V6 with leather too. What kind of options do you choose besides Premium package? Is your MSRP $26,275?

    Thanks a lot.
  • kelvamkelvam Member Posts: 20
I have gotten a few quotes now, and they all are pointing the TDA as a fee that I (the buyer) have to pay the dealership for even before TTL (tax, title, license). Is that the case?

Have anyone been able to negotiate without paying the TDA?

What's TDA for anyway, Toyota Dealers Association / Toyota Dealer Advertising Fee? Those are what I can find online so far...

    Thanks

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am looking for a V6 with leather too. What kind of options do you choose besides Premium package? Is your MSRP $26,275?
    ------

Well, I got an SE, which is the "sport edition", not an XLE, which is the "top of the line luxury edition".

Nearly all SE's come with the stability control, side airbags, and rear-spoiler. So, you pretty much have to get those if you go with an SE V6. My MSRP was $28K and change.

Don't know what you are looking for in the car, but XLE's have more amenities, like memory seats and climate control but a weaker engine and poorer mileage--both are V6's but the SE's is bigger and more advanced. I really like the SE's engine compared to the XLE's. V6 LE's also have the poorer engine. SE's also have a stiffer suspension than any other camrys. I consider that a good thing, but you might not.

XLE's are also more expensive, generally speaking.

I would have to check, but I think that by the time you add a V6 and Leather to an LE, you are pretty close price-wise to an XLE or SE, which both have more features than the LE. The extra bucks might be worth it to you to upgrade.

You may have issuese finding one with the options you want. SE's are fairly rare birds, even more so with leather, and XLE's are somewhat uncommon too. Some LE's have leather though. But although the first dealer had trouble finding my car, I surely didn't.

I do know where to find a couple of SEs just like mine (except the color) in the bay area.

The trick is that dealers want to move these off their lots. Hold out for the one you want. The dealer needs to sell more than you need to buy. Camry's are a dime a dozen.

And when you do purchase, make sure the dealer's numbers add up before you sign anything.

Toyota of Manhattan in New York City practices bait and switch tactics. The sales dept. and mgmt are dishonest in their business dealings. Avoid them or be very careful when doing business with them. They do not keep their word.
  • jefftownjefftown Member Posts: 8
It's very nice of you. It really helps a lot. I will consider SE too. The main requirement is leather. And I prefer v6 becasue 4cyl is not so power.

    Thanks again.

    Hello Gallileo,

Can you please explain a bit more about this : "add the rebate then subtract it scam" ?

Also, in your opinion, which dealership around the bay area would offer the best price ? Sunnyvale Toyota or Fremont Toyota or Hayward Toyota ?

    Thanks,

Thinking about buying a 06 Camry this week or by next weekend. Can anyone tell me about prices paid and dealer experience? What about Carmax?
    Appreciate it.
  • pranrasvijpranrasvij Member Posts: 4
    Bought it on 02/18 - $16599 + ttl = 18310 (OTD).
    Gray LE - 2532model#
No options added- not even floor mats.

Donot go to stevens creek toyota as the service is bad and they make you wait a long time. Car was not clean when delivered so it is a disappointment. Capitol Toyota matches prices so try them.
  • kelvamkelvam Member Posts: 20
The $16599 must be after the $750 rebate correct? That's an absolute amazing deal. Is this a Manual or Automatic? I have to guess it's a manual.

Because as far as my research go, the "dealership invoice price" -- i.e. price paid out of dealership pocket to Toyota -- is $17491. Then there's destination chage of $580.

Even excluding TDA (toyota advertise fee, usually in the $00 range), after $750 rebate it still total to $17321 -- a $700+ price difference!!!! :surprise:
  • pranrasvijpranrasvij Member Posts: 4
The rebate in febraury went up to $1000 - check toyota.com before you go to dealer. This is a 2532A => automatic.

In bay area, they advertised these in the newspapers and sold out pretty fast. The Finance guy told me that this is close to wholesale...ie: they are not making much on car ($50 max) but they hope you will buy finance/insurance/warranty/prepaid maintenance from them. They make a lot from that !!!!!

Where are u located? it all depends on location for deals....
  • kelvamkelvam Member Posts: 20
Dang, I wish I'm up in the bay. I'm in southern CA. Maybe it's even worth it to fly up to SF, buy the car and drive it back :P
  • pranrasvijpranrasvij Member Posts: 4
I read somewhere sales of toyotas in northern CA were slower so these deals are on....

still i think wait till 2007s come out , if they have 2006 they will need to clear out..
  • kelvamkelvam Member Posts: 20
I heard that since Feb already ended, and 2007 is coming out in mid-March (rumor?), they already up the $750 rebate to $1000 rebate. Have anyone heard of it, or confirm this?
  • statecatstatecat Member Posts: 10
On Edmunds it shows the March rebate to be $400 and no APR incentive. Is the rebate regional? Is the info on edmunds correct?
  • kelvamkelvam Member Posts: 20
I compare with KBB, and it does seem to be regional.

Bought a Camry Le, standard-equiped, auto transmission, for $18250, every thing-included, drive-out price. The original sticker price is $21190 Could get cheaper, since another dealership called and offered $18150 while I was test-drving, doesn't want to travel 100 mi(round trip) for 100 bucks (I know actually I could squeeze them to 18000, just felt enough is enough). By the way this $1000 rebate is national wide and the purpose is to clear the inventory and make room for 07 camry which is coming next week.

Don't believe too much about this so-called invoice price since if using this number, it doesn't make any sense on my deal. As I know, every time the dealers get cars from the automaker, their prices will also be different. Also don't believe the so-called dinstination charge, it's a BS to squeeze consumer's money.

If you are serious about buying a car, my suggestion is to call around dealerships and negotiate the price on the phone, let them know you are a serious buyer and you know what you are doing. Don't waste your time on traveling and talking in the dealerships. I only spent 2 hours on making phone calls and another hour to get the car.
  • jimfireftrjimfireftr Member Posts: 26
$18,250 You said Drive out price. I am assuming you mean this is your OTD price that included Tax, Title etc.. ???? Please clarify Thanks
  • kelvamkelvam Member Posts: 20
Ditto. If 18250 is price after TTL, that's amazing. In LA 91789 zip code, the tax itself (8.25%) is already 1500 which brings the car "drive out price" at 19000+.
  • erickarscoverickarscov Member Posts: 3
Yes $18250 is OTD. I am in Tennessee, our sales tax rate is 9.25% for the first $1500 (don't remember how to calculate the >1500 part, maybe 6%, if i am right). The price before TTL is about $16400. This is a brand-new '06 Camry LE with cargo net and all the floor matts. The meter reading is only 27 mi.

My salesperson couldn't believe her manager agreed on such a price ( I directly talked to the manager on the phone in the same day morning).
  • bigbird1bigbird1 Member Posts: 1
Where at in TN are you located? I'm trying to get an 06 at around that price. :)
  • erickarscoverickarscov Member Posts: 3
i am in middle tennessee. you can talk to alexander toyota in Franklin or Roberts toyota in columbia. I bought mine from alexander and roberts was the one called during my test driving. If you talk to beaman, you may reach the deal but usually they give you a lot of trouble. Last year I helped my friend to buy a 05 camry le there for 17980(with a $400 college new graduate rebate). That was the best deal i have ever reached but it took me 6 good hours! Good luck!
  • jimfireftrjimfireftr Member Posts: 26
Ok I wish i were in TN due to the deals that the previous posts had but here is the best deal i could get after emailing and calling for three days 12 different dealers in OH ( Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati dealers)MSRP 21,141 Negotiated Price of $18,028 with one free oil ( i could have had $17,028, but i chose the 2.9% APR instead of the extra $1000)They have coupons of $2000 for supposedly only one more week. I was told by all the dealers that they cant give all the discounts with the APR. I will break down the OTD price. REMEMBER REBATES ARE TAKEN OFF AFTER ALL FEES INCLUDING TAXES.
    MSRP = $21,141
    INV = $19,435
    subtract $407 (dealer cash back)
    This = $19,028
    + $ 100 ( Doc fees)
    = $19,128 x my tax of 0.65% = ($1243.32)
    = $20,371.32
    + $ 25.50 (title and registration fees)
    = $21,396.82
    - $1000 ( toyota coupon )
GRAND TOTAL OTD = $19,396.82 with the special APR of 2.9% or 3.9%.
Remember you can do $1000 better w/o the special APR. I have excellent credit rating and could not come close to 2.9% or 3.9%
So this is basically $407 under invoice.
Good luck Hopefully this helps, Like i said I have no clue as to how they did it in TN. I worked email and phone for three days and 12 different dealers.

    Y E S,
Rice Toyota was selling 2006 Camry's for $17,257 which included all paperwork & advertising fees. It did not include T/T/L.

I suggest getting a 2007 version of the LE Camry for for about 1000 more than you were quoted. They also sell on eBay, go there and do a search for "2007 Camry"...you'll see what I mean.

I believe MSRP is $21,790 for that vehicle not including delivery fee.
    http://www.edmunds.com/new/2007/toyota/camry/100699455/prices.html

Does it come with anything else?
Check out Edmunds.com under new cars and kbb.com for invoice and other pricing info.

What part of California are you in?

  • kelly224kelly224 Member Posts: 4
I don't get why the dealer told me that their MSRP is $24,709.00 and their invoice is $22,200. But when I check online, it's $21,790 for MSRP and $19,391 for the invoice like you said.

At Tracy Toyota, they are offering $22,644. I think that also includes destination fees but not tax.

I'm living in San Jose, CA.
