Has anyone found a good source of discount Toyota Acessories on the web? I found a couple, but I think I can do better based on past experience with Honda Odyssey acessories. If it violates the current rules to post links, please e-mail me.

    Thanks

What're you doing on this board? Did you buy a Matrix to go with your Odyssey???
  • tom3ktom3k Member Posts: 91
I bought a '00 Odyssey 2.5 years ago. It is still going strong as the primary kid mover and Mrs. 3k's main vehicle. Thanks to Edmund's Town Hall, I was able to not only find a decent price on the van, but find sources for deep-discount accessories and the factory extended warranty. (which you oughta remember dogtrainer!;-) Unless, of course I'm confusing you with someone else.)

I was hoping to do the same for my new Matrix, which I indeed now own and will be my daily driver (the Integra and the Escort SW died in rapid succession).

Nope, you're not confusing me with anyone else, it's the ol' COOT Cop himself!

To get back on subject...try these if you didn't find them yourself: www.toyotapart.com and
www.toyota-parts.com. I don't think either is as good as HandAparts, they sure don't have anyone like Trevor giving out free advice! Be sure to post any others you come across.

Problem is, the Matrix is still so new there isn't much aftermarket stuff yet.
  • tom3ktom3k Member Posts: 91
I'm just looking for the factory mats (probably all-weather) and the bumper guard (functional, and looks really cool against the red paint). Mrs 3K has already put the kibosh on new wheels or an upgraded stereo (and they complained about the Odyssey stereo! You should hear this thing!), so I'm nearly done.

When I bought the car, I just wanted to get it off the lot and home before they changed their mind on the price (just under invoice), I didn't ask about accessories and neither did they. When I went in today to give them the loan check, I asked the parts dept. what they wanted for the mats, and they quoted me over MSRP ($106 vs my best internet price so far of $68)!

It was also a week-and-a-half special order for red touch-up-paint (got a chip on the way home, pre-Zaino :().

According to this "Tire Calculator" at (paspeedo.com/calculator.htm), the tire size 225/45-17 will work just fine on my corolla, because the stock tire size is 195/65-15. I am just checking to see if this calculator is all that accurate.
  • 8u6hfd8u6hfd Member Posts: 1,391
    225/45 r17 is fine

(I deleted my tire size post, because I finally noticed the typo)

I agree, the bumper guuard looks really good on the best color, Radiant Red! Also helps to prevent marks when loading stuff. Have you checked to see if MacNeil Auto has Weather Tech mats for the Matrix yet? I can't get to them myself because something on their site keeps crashing my browser.
  • tom3ktom3k Member Posts: 91
MacNeil does indeed have the mats for the Matrix on their site (which my browser survived, BTW). They are around $20 more than the best price I can find for the factory all weather mats. Are they worth it? What are the advantages?

Shouldn't we be referring to the color as 'RR'? Is ti the matrix equivalent of GG?;-)
  • dogtrainerdogtrainer Member Posts: 96
The weathertech mats have really deep grooves that hold any snow or mud that falls/melts off your feet, thus protecting the carpet. They're each supposed to hold something like a quart of liquid. That's a lot of snow melt.

    You're right, RR it is!
  • tom3ktom3k Member Posts: 91
Well, we haven't had a decent snow down here in at least two years, plus I found a company that will match my best price so far on mats and the bumper guard and waive shipping if I order both, so we're talking close to $50 difference in price. For that kind of money I think I'll go whith the Toyota all weather mats.

I'll post a link to this place if everything works out.
  • tom3ktom3k Member Posts: 91
My all-weather mats and rear bumper protector arrived yesterday from Butler Toyota. Just under a week via UPS ground (free shipping because the order was over $100 - by $0.80).

Mats were very heavy and fit perfectly (as they should). Only carpet now visible is on the center 'hump'. They might not have been up to Weathertech standards, but between price and shipping, they were $40-$50 cheaper for the set.

The bumper protector came with alignment templates and detailed instructions. Had to improvise a little, as I didn't have the 3M prep solution (?) or a hard roller to press it in. Used alcohol to remove the Zaino and get to the painted surface and applied pressure with both hands (using the palm of one hand to sub for the roller and dragging it across the protector with the other) to adhere it to the surface. Only time will tell if it worked, but it seems to be good and stuck and properly aligned.

Now I gotta go re-zaino the edges;-).

does anyone know where to get one and price and is it easy to install it yourself? I just need the keyless entry feature, I don't need the alarm.

    thanks

Has anyone installed a Rear Spoiler on a Corolla LE? Is it easy to install and does it look ok on this model?
  • raven18raven18 Member Posts: 33
hi bmxkid, someone on the corolla/matrix problems and solutions board had the same problem with their matrix, as do I. Go to that board and read post #65 that I added. Hope it helps. I haven't had it done yet, but will soon. Good luck.

hi everyone I have matrix xrs, just replaced my stock air filter with the trd air filter, excellent throttle response I can feel big diffrence, It cost only about $40 but it really worth it. Just go to your local toyota dealer and buy one. I'm waiting for Toyota trd to make the air intake system that really make it faster too.

Does anyone know if there is a short shifter/ quickshifter kit(s) available for the 2003 Corolla?
  • zukhovzukhov Member Posts: 34
Can someone tell me whether TRD makes an air filter for the XR? Thank you
  • jediknight1jediknight1 Member Posts: 1
I am looking for color-keyed Mudguards for my 2003 Toyota Corolla LE. I need 4 mudguards total (2 front & 2 rear). The color I need to match my vehicle is 'Lunar Mist Metallic'. Any help in finding these would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
  • 8u6hfd8u6hfd Member Posts: 1,391
don't know off the top of my head.

But what you can do is check the air filter numbers between the engines of the Corolla and the Matrix XR to see if they are similar. If they are, you can use the TRD Filter for the Corolla

found the Ventvisors for my Matrix, and installed it today. I had these on my truck, and I loved it, but I've had a hard time trying to find them for my Matrix. If anyone else is looking for them, I would highly recommend shopping around. I looked online and couldn't find them any cheaper than $77 (plus $16 for shipping) for the set - on sale. So I took the part number off the web site and checked with the local auto store. The store didn't have it, but they were able to order it with the part number I gave them (they didn't have a reference or description for it, but they ordered it anyway), and I got it for $49.99, and no shipping charge. Came from Tennessee 3 days after ordering it. $50 vs. $93......definitely worth the extra leg work!

I just got my Matrix and it has the 6 disc changer. Is there anyone with the cd/cassette combo in the Phoenix are that would be interested in an upgrade? I would pay for the swap.

    thanks!
  • roxy_caroxy_ca Member Posts: 2
Well just so you all know Auto Club members get 15% off of accessories and upgrades up selected Toyota retailers.

My toyota dealer had the regular floor mats for 46 bucks and the all weather (not needed here in sunny southern cali) for 78. I guess it just depends on the dealer eh?!

As far as auto door locks...on my honda I went to best buy had them install an alarm system and the auto door lock/unlock feature was only 12 dollars extra per door plus 50 dollars for labor. So it was less than 100 dollars to add it. I know that it was cheaper than letting honda do it for 500 bucks plus labor.

And as far as my toyota corolla s...it came with floor mats and the cargo trunk mat for free??
  • leedav08leedav08 Member Posts: 1
I went to a car toys shop to install power locks but they said that the way the door locks are set up it will be impossible to do this. They were going to charge $300 to do this. They called the parts department from the toyota dealership and they said that i would have to have acctuators put in. 1 for each door at a cost of $210/acctuator. So with parts and labor to put this in it will be about $1100. Has anyone found a cheaper way to do this. I've seen some posts on the 2003 Corolla CE car ratings that someone installed powers locks. Please help.

    Thanks

Bought fog light kit from on line dealer. The kit even came with a switch that mounts in the dash next to other switches. It also came with a relay for the fuse box. It is genuine Toyota parts. Even fog lights plug into plugs already on vehicle wiring. However, the instructions for wiring are not correct for Base Matrix. Has anyone successfully installed the kit sold by toyotapart4U.com? I paid big bucks for these lights but cannot get them to work. Yes, the fuse is installed. The directions for finding the 12volt lead on connector c12 are correct, but the line that connects to the relay for the lamps is not part of that connector plug. Believe me I have tried every wire on that connector and the only response I get is that the bright lights turn on. I would really like to use the factory wiring if it exists. I know that there are some changes with the Base over other models. Does anyone have this kit and successfully installed it on a Base model?

those of you with the 03' corolla, you may wanna look at adding red reflectors on the rear. u can stick them on the lower part of the rear bumper. the lower part is painted black and with 2 pieces of red tape reflector - it looks sharp!

looks like OEM reflectors too. on the front left and right, u can stick some on this two mudflap type of plastic in front of the tires. also look OEM and looks sharp!

just thought i'd share my cheap upgrade! :)

    Hi All:

___I have not seen anyone post in regards to finding original 03 Corolla LE aluminum wheel style that were initially available but appear to have been changed as of ~ July, 2002 on forward. You can see the older and more desirable IMO aluminum wheels here:

    http://www.toyota.com/html/shop/vehicles/corolla/index.html

with the latest offerings in the options and accessories section here:

    http://www.toyota.com/html/shop/vehicles/corolla/options/corolla_options.html

___I am interested in possibly purchasing 4 of the older aluminum wheels for my 03 LE but cannot find them as of this writing.

    ___Thanks in advance

In regards to those two website links you posted. The first shows the corolla S in siver correct? Those are the rims that I have on my car. I just bought it Aug 30th. It was in the final production stage and I picked it up on Sept 5th. Those are the standard aluminum wheels if you get the sports package or aluminum wheel package.

As for the others on the 2nd link that kind of sqiggle (shown on the phantom grey/moondust corolla) those are the upgradeable rims. They are a bigger size as my dealer explained to me. Maybe in your area they automatically come with the 2nd style and u have to pay for them. Personally I like the original ones myself. Very nice and stylish.

So to answer your questions they still come with those...my car was made after July 2002 and I have them.
  • jeproxjeprox Member Posts: 466
i thought LE comes standard with mags.
the mags on the first link looks nicer.

just to let you know, lots of corolla 03' parts are out of stock! there's a memo that went out from toyota saying that they cannot manufacture enough 03' corolla's to meet the demand! they are the 2nd best seller right now in the toyota line-up, along with echo. not sure what is number one best seller.

so if you want 03' OEM corolla parts, be prepared to pay a premium price for it and be prepared to wait a long time! :)

Well my car was suposed to come with floor mats but they were left out. Only took my dealer 2 days to get them ordered and in and picked them up yesterday. All the dealer has to do is rush the order and you get them.

And I had to order the cargo net also. I got dealer price on it (30 bucks) and that will be UPSed to me by thurs for free. I guess maybe you just need to hobnob with your dealer to get a better price and get it faster.

I guess maybe all the corollas are coming to california. All the dealers I went to had at least 10-20 on their lot but mostly in black, white, silver and that phantom/moondust metalic color. They don't make as many of the red and blue so those are more rare. Thats why I bought my from the production line...so I would get blue. Of course most of the cars were sold with downs but every other day they get more in.

I Saw in 77 Matrix Fog Light Kit by jimmie9 Any more info? I want to add fog lights to my matrix
  • nippononlynippononly Member Posts: 12,555
the ones you like are part of the sport package on the S model. The second ones (the ones you don't like) are the stand-alone optional alloys for all models.

They are both the same size.

And no, LE does not come standard with alloys, they have to be optioned in.

You can still get both of the alloys in xcel's links from Toyota.

I'm looking to replace the steering wheel on my '02 Corolla LE. I originally thought of putting in the steering wheel of same year S version (it looks nicer and is leather-wrapped), but my Toyota dealer told me it wasn't possible (he didn't look like he knew what he was talking about, though!)

The standard steering wheel on my Corolla is sooo boring and I'd like to know what others here may have done to address this problem with their Corollas! Any ideas?
  • fgf001fgf001 Member Posts: 98
They are only available in black. You will have to have them painted to match your car. FYI I found them on the internet for half the amount the local dealer wanted and intstalled them myself. If your car has some black accents (which mine does) they look quite nice unpainted.
  • jeproxjeprox Member Posts: 466
its best to leave your steering wheel alone coz of the airbag.
your dealer may be correct when he said S steering wont fit on your car. i could be wrong though.
if you dont care about the airbag, then you can pick up a nice MOMO steering wheel. they normally cost an arm and a leg though!
  • nippononlynippononly Member Posts: 12,555
if you trade out your steering wheel, is there someplace that will buy it? I have heard airbags cost 100's of $$.

Surely the S steering wheel will fit on the same model year cars...

  • jeproxjeprox Member Posts: 466
    yes airbags are big bucks!
those of you buying used cars that have airbags, make sure you have them!

we've had reports on tv about re-built cars being sold without airbags! they just stuff cloth or something inside to make it feel like you have an airbag! and of course when you're involved in an accident, nothing deploys!

so if you buy a used car, have your airbag checked to make sure its there!
  • fgf001fgf001 Member Posts: 98
How would you know if a used car had functioning airbags or not?
  • jeproxjeprox Member Posts: 466
i honestly dont know how to check for it... but as it said on the tv report i watched, it basically said to have the car checked out by someone like AAA.

i assume they would look under your dash and maybe remove the steering - i really dont have a clue.

You can get all of these accessories put on when you buy the vibe new. The supercharger will give the matrix/vibe welcomed low end torque. If anyone puts one on please start a new discussion and share your experience.

Has anyone installed an Injen or AEM cold air intake on an '03 Corolla? I'm curious as to the difficulty of the installation and accessibility of the cone filter to clean, etc.

    look here www.vvti.net
lots of info for toyota vehicles.

  • jeproxjeprox Member Posts: 466
yeah there are many sites on the internet for corolla or matrix. the vvti.net is pretty good. mostly younger guys and lots of pics there as well.
i got lots of tips from there and they have a DIY section as well.

Has anyone had an automatic car starter installed on the 2003 Matrix, and if so did you have any problems after?
  • fgf001fgf001 Member Posts: 98
I'm probably twice as old as anyone on the vvt-i site but the hot rodder's heart never changes...if you've got 400 horsepower you want 450!
  • jeproxjeprox Member Posts: 466
just wanted to share with 03' owners out there...
if you shave off the "toyota, corolla, CE, LE" on the trunk of your car, it will give you a very nice clean look! :)

i removed mine and except the toyota logo, it looks really nice and clean. also, you don't have to worry about wax and dirt in between those letters! :)
  • friendly_jacekfriendly_jacek Member Posts: 96
    How did you do this?

Also, does anyone know how to remove the dealer crap stickers without damaging the paint (very delicate in 2003 I hear)?
  • jeproxjeprox Member Posts: 466
you can use a nylon fishing line or just use your hand/fingers! i just used my hand to slowly pry it off. while prying off the emblem, i used a very thin plastic ruler to slide behind the emblem and cut through the two sided tape.

after the emblem is off, i just used my fingers to rub off the remaining tape. once done, wax it and wow, clean look and no scratches!

to remove the dealer stickers, use a hair dryer. heat up the stickers and use your fingers to peel the stickers off. when done, use wax to remove the remaining tape! done!
