I've been testing the waters on a new 06 Forrester 2.5x via the internet and this has been my best quote to-date:

2.5x equipped with the all weather floor mats, rear cargo net, cargo tray and rear bumper cover (1C). The List Price on the vehicle is $23,455. Invoice cost on it appears to be $21,953. Discounted price before the rebate is $21,153.

    Sale Price $21,153 (before rebate)
    Processing 225
    Taxes 1,106, Tags 153
    Total before rebate: $22,637
    Rebate: 2,000

    Total out the door: $20,637.

I would have thought with the 07's now on the lot that prices would drop more and that there would be some dealer incentives to move the 06's. Doing a quick new inventory search in the area shows that most dealers have up to 20+ Forresters on the lot. I'd really like the 2.5x premium but the rebate is paltry compared to the base 2.5x putting an out-the-door price on the premium at $23,5k or so. That's a $3k premium on the premium especially since I believe the invoice on the premium package is like $2k to the dealer.

So, deal or no deal? Wait until the end of month (July) or end-of-month (August). I'm only in a hurry for the right price and can afford to wait. Can I do better on the premium package?

    Thanks,

    Diveguy

I think it's pretty good... you might be able to eke out a couple hundred more off the price. If there are plenty of Xs in the color you like, you could wait 'til the end of July. Wait 'til the end of August and the price probably won't drop any more, but the inventory will be much smaller.

    Hello All,
Could use some help - I've never owned or bought a new car and am interested in a Forester (my best buddy comes from a "Forester Family - (3 in her family...)
Been closely monitoring the forum to see the type of prices people are getting for the '06 models. Am from the tri-state area so there are numerous dealers around me.

    Dealer 1
2.5 X Prem with package 1 (rear bumper cover, cargo tray, splash guards), all weather mats, rear spoiler, custom tailpipe, package 4 (autodim mirror/security sensor)
    Sticker: $26607

    TMV Invoice = 23968 + 625 Destination = 24593
    CR Invoice = 23220 + 625 Destination = 23845

Dealer 1 offered to sell for 23000 (not including tax & tags) - and I think he WAS including the $1000 discount (finance rate of 7.4 - )

    Dealer 2
2.5 X Prem with package 1 (rear bumper cover, cargo tray, splash guards), all weather mats, package 4 (autodim mirror/security sensor), 2 side cargo nets, & wheel locks
    Sticker: $26274

    TMV Invoice = 23754 + 625 Destination = 24379
    CR Invoice = 23006 + 625 Destination = 23631

Dealer 2 offered to sell for 24379 (not including tax & tags) - with 3.9% financing.

I just don't feel like I'm getting much of a "deal" from either of these dealers and am willing to shop around... Am I being unrealistic?

One other "cosmetic" question -- for those of you that have the beige interior - how does it hold up in terms of dirt??? Common sense leads me think that the gray interior is better? And has anyone ever had trouble with "leakage" or malfunction with the moonroof?

    Thanks in advance,
    Webdiva

$21k for a Premium? That's not a typo? The price sounds excellent. I thought they were a grand or so higher.

My wife has tan interior with roof, the roof is awesome and no leaks, although I'm not a huge fan of the intermediate stopping point (have to push twice to have it go all the way). The tan interior takes some getting used to. All weather floor mats may be a good investment, but if you get them clean them often, otherwise sludge builds up in the treads.

Thank you. Yes It is $21K+tax+license ;).

This is the first time ever, I didn't feel that the dealer robbed me after the car purchase!

When I told my wife this, her answer was:
What you mean, the dealer didn't rob you... You robbed them :D.

The salesperson told me that, they are losing money on this car. The only reason for them to sell at this price was just to move the car. I didn't complain :).

While going over some of the papers, I found that the car's age (days in stock) listed as 237 days (or 257 days). They did a very sloppy detailing job before selling it to me.

I wonder, would there be any problem in buying a car that was in stock unused for such a long time?

The car had about 40miles on it. Is it normal?
My last car(accord) had less than 10 miles on it at the time of purchase.

Also, it seems that the car was assembled in Vancouver, Canada. I was under the impression that all Foresters are made and assembled in Japan.

They tried to sell me an extended warranty, I thankfully declined all their offers. Did I do the right thing?

    Yes, a most excelent deal!

No, no problem at all being in stock for so long, however unless they occasionally charged the battery, its life might have been shortened by a few months out of the several years it should last.

Also, I would have the oil changed imediately, as it has been sitting in the pan for a year.

As for the extended warranty, I prefer Warranty Direct link title because they offer one that works in tandem with the longer Subaru power train warranty. Check out the Power Wrap + one, and make sure you take the emission coverage. ;)

I have no idea how long you usually keep your cars, so as to if it is worth it or not, up to you. Studies have shown it adds value if when selling it, you have one.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I agree about changing the oil, but otherwise it should be fine. 40 miles are probably from test drives. I bought an Escort with 70+ miles and it lasted for over 100k miles until it was totalled in a wreck.

    Enjoy.

40 miles? No worries about that.

Foresters are assembled in Japan, Gunma Prefecture. Maybe the port of entry for the vehicle was Vancouver? In that case, any port-installed options would go onto the vehicle in Vancouver, but that's it.

Vancouver would be a very expensive place for Subaru to have an assembly plant. :)
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
    Exactly right, Jeff.

Vancouver is the POE, and things like the chrome tail pipe cover and the rubber hatch mat are "installed" (read as thrown into the back of the car) there. ;)

I live in the bay area(California). Dealer is located in Roseville. YMMV.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Terry.

My last car was Accord and I did buy the extended coverage from Honda 7Years/100K miles. Never had a chance to use it though. Ironically, I met with an accident just after 7years and the car got declared a total loss!

I will check out the Warranty-Direct. How much did you have to pay for the PowerWrap+? Does it cover the Head-gasket(spelling?) oil leak type issues?

I did notice that the Forester was rated to be higher on the emission scale when compared with the Outback! I wonder why. [I am the new kid in the subaru candy-store... inquisitive about everything :)]

Find out if you can get a refund since the warranty was not used. Don't some of those work that way?

Sweet. I wish the X Premium had the same incentive!

  • kate5000kate5000 Member Posts: 1,271
yep that would be sweet. It was strange that the cheaper model had twice as big an incentive, but I guess X Premium's were moving faster off the lots. In fact, by time I came to test-drive Foresters, dealer had only 2 X Premiums on the lot: golden (auto) and red (stick). Next morning, golden was already gone!

Bought the 2006 Forester 2.5X, base model, AT, cyrstal grey at the end of last month, $19600 (including destination after rebate), with options of auto dimmer mirror and compass, splash guards, cargo tray, cargo net, real bump cover and tinted window. OTD $21362.
I haven't drove the car back since the dealer said they need wait unitl my check to be cleared.

The deal was done with Oasis Subaru,NJ. I test drive the car before they put it in the showroom, it has 10 miles.

The internet manger of Coleman Jeep Subaru Kia of NJ is totally a liar, I confirmed with him about the car one hour before I went down and then he told me the car was sold once I got there after driving 30 miles.

Last night we purchased a 2007 Forester L.L. Bean Edition. This is our first Subaru.

Red Garnet/Urban Gray, Cargo Net-Rear of Seat, Cargo Net-Rear Vertical, Rear Bumper Cover, and Splash Guards Gray.

    MSRP 27,629; Invoice 25,757; TMV 26,240

Negotiated Price 25,557; less $500 'Rebate'; Final Cost 25,057 before tax, tag, title -- $700 under invoice.

Additional items: Window tiniting and 2 year maintenance contract at no charge.

We originally were pricing a Forester XT (also under invoice), but quickly realized that the non-Turbo models were powerful enough, use less gas, and don't require premium fuel. We are very satisfied with our buying experience at Troncalli Subaru, Cumming, GA and would recommend it to anyone shopping for a Subaru.

$200 under invoice, nice! Any tips or comments on how you got them that low?

congrats! great deal on 2007 LLBean!
Please post the pix of your new ride - I love Red Garnet/Urban Gray combo - looks very classy.

Tint is worth $200 at least. The 2 years' maintenance adds up to at the very least 4 oil changes, or roughly $88 at my dealer. Figure another $300 or so in discounts due to the value-added.

    Congrats.

in the market for a XT, previous car got totalled so need to buy a car soon. Done quite a bit of research and think the XT will satisfy my taste buds although my other car has blue tooth and it'd have been nice to have that here.

Any prompt help 'd be very helpfull. I am in the northern cali/folsom area.

When calling around check Reno as well. ;)

Many of my friends, when buying a new model, not just Subaru, have saved more than a few hundred driving over the pass...
  • apawarapawar Member Posts: 14
yeah but how would the taxes and registration stuff work?
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
    No problem at all!

Don't worry, even in Nevada they are quite used to handling it. Works the same as if buying in Sac, they collect and send it all in. :)
  • apawarapawar Member Posts: 14
so they would charge me Cali taxes in Reno? :confuse:
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
    Well, of course!

The Nevada Sales Tax is the same as California's, 7.75%. They either collect it and give it to California, or you would have to pay it yourself, and of course they would report the sale, and California DMV would tell the Franchise Tax Board.
  • apawarapawar Member Posts: 14
    I see

Now I am starting to wonder though if the base version would be enough for us since we don't need to use premium gas. So does anyone have any price comparision in California for the X premium vs. the XT.?
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
Some great deals out there online on the L. L. Bean editions....and the X's, try the get-a-quote dealie on edmunds.com. :)
  • apawarapawar Member Posts: 14
arent' those prices delivered though? so wouldn't that be delivered to Norther Cali if I wanted to buy it from them?

(I was referring to fritzmall.com pricing)
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
All car prices include "delivery" no matter if they say it or not. Someone pays to get them from the POE to the dealer, you know...... ;)

Go use it, and see for yourself what it "includes". :P

Online you can buy a car from any dealer, anywhere, if you have a mind to. It does let you select the search area. If you buy it somewhere besides No. California, you will need to go pick it up, of course. Oftentimes I have done that, if I am saving $1500 or more, a $300 plane ticket from Reno to Chicago is a small price, eh?
  • apawarapawar Member Posts: 14
just got quoted $27330.00 plus $364.00 for hitch installed = $27694.00 plus fees.

    $27694.00

    +$45.00 documentation fee

    +$2149.77 sales tax (sacto county)

+$251.75 dmv registration and tire fee

= $31,135.52 out the door including hitch installed.

Warranty price will depend on which deductible and the amount of component coverage you need? The Subaru Added Security 5year/100000 miles with a $100.00 deductible would be $1120.00 and that is for a gold plan that covers most components.

    # Automatic Transmission
    # Cargo Tray, Beige
    # Splash Guards - Champagne Gold Opal (it's either this or the rear bumper cover)
    # Security Sys Shock Sensor (doesn't this just mean that the car has a security system) Turbo

I am still trying to figure out what a comparable 2006 would cost so if someone can post their recently aquired deal a 2006 I'd really appreciate it.
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247

    Hi everyone,

I was quoted $23,791 OTD for the 07 Forester X with premium package automatic with compass and auto dimming mirror. Is this a good price?

    Thanks!
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
    Very good price!
  • jeffmcjeffmc Member Posts: 1,742
Invoice is $23,742, no rebates available, so basically they're paying your taxes & fees and selling at invoice. I think that's a great price, too.
  • subaruguy2subaruguy2 Member Posts: 1
You must live in a very low tax rate cuz that is stupid

You're right, I'm in DE (2.5%) and you get a full credit of the NADA value for a trade-in or total loss vehicle. So my tax came to $46.

    Hi all,

I think I found a deal but something is amiss, please give opinion/advice: An add with a local dealership online in nashville tn is advertising an 06 subaru forrester X model for 17875, it has 4500 miles on it. It is listed as an X model online but when you open up the "standard features" list it lists out the features for the Premium package. I did go to the dealership and this car was the X not the Prem. and they were asking 18995 on the lot....also, online they have a silver model selling on the same page that is listed as an X type but under the standard features it lists out the Prem package. Is this false advertising? Is this something I should take as the dealer being a "hoodwinker"? It feels smarmy...help! And of course, I want the Prem Pkg!...I haven't asked dealer about the descrepency yet...
  • terry92270terry92270 Member Posts: 1,247
You should be asking the dealer. They must sell it exactly as advertised, under the law, or produce documentation from the newspaper's advertising department that they made a mistake. If it is their mistake, they eat it. If they refuse, file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and whatever State agencies have purview there. ;)

But certainly you should be first speaking to the Sales Manager about it....
  • gladelillygladelilly Member Posts: 6
Thanks so much! I want to get the best deal I can but I think they just made a mistake but I guess I want to be sure it wasn't intentional just to get me to stop by. That I would not be happy about being misled just to get me on the lot and I would therefore go to another dealer. I'll definately speak with the Sales Manager about it. The Sales person I spoke with that day was top notch, no pressure so...we'll see! I'm just glad I found this forum because there is so much great info! Thanks, again! :D
