Not to be mean or anything but wow a RAV-4 for 30K... man that is a lot of money for a RAV-4. I think I'd rather have a Highlander with a little less equiment on it for that price. According to my sales rep. the HL are not selling well and the RAV-4 is taking sales away. I would think they would deal on the HL's now.
  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
Yes there are deals on the Highlander. And for a reason. It drives and handles like a truck compared to the RAV4, has less usefull space in the rear and gets worse gas milage. It is very nicely fitted out.

You can get a nice RAV4 V6 Limited for about $27k if you shop. And the I4 for $1500 less.

My wife and I are considering getting a V6 Limited RAV4 with the 3rd row seating sometime after January, so I'm doing some research on the vehicle. In looking around the 3 Toyota dealers in my area, they only have 4 RAV4's between them. Is this lack of inventory normal for this model, or am I just looking at a bad time of year? If so, when will the stock levels be back up to a point where we will actually have something to look at or at least a few colors/options to choose from? Thanks in advance.

For reference, I'm located in Roanoke, Va.

What I have found is that what the dealerships have on the websites does not match what they have in inventory. This model (in our area and from what I see in Automotive News) is moving very quickly. So, they probably don't update the inventory on their web site quick enough. The dealership I bought ours at had 15 listed on their site, three I was interested in but were already sold. The one we bought was not even listed yet. We live in Central Ohio, and the other three dealerships has a grand total of 5 listed on their sites. I would either email the dealerships, call, or simply go in really. If you email them there is less pressure on you and maybe more on them to get you to come into the dealership. The longer you wait though I think inventory will catch up with demand. This is a new model and is eating into sales of the Highlander.

Would you really want a Hyundai rather than a Toyota because of the interior? A car is a conveyance. It's supposed to get you from point A to point B in the safest manner possible. Don't you think the mechanical quality and reliability are the deciding factors?

Anyone know where to buy these all weather mats and cargo tray other than paying 'blow-out' retail through dealer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
    Ebay has it all. Just search 2006 RAV4. Some of it from dealers like Deland Toyota. Prices are better than at the dealer usually Also, try this link;

  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
Well sales are good but most of the problem right now is the transition to 2007s. Fitzmall usually has 40 RAV4s, but only a few for the last month almost.

Since I am guessing that Roanoke is in the SE region try this:

Go to www.toyota.com , go to build and buy and enter your zip code. This should show you the SE region stock which is 900 RAV4s in or coming in. from there you can see what your dealer or other dealers have by playing with local zips. SE region has awefull prices and fees. If you are flexible and go to www.fitzmall.com you can get your RAV4 for $200 over invoice + $99 fee. in Baltimore MD.. Fly up there on a Southwest internet fare for $50, they bring it to the airport and you might save $1000 or more versus your local dealer. lots of people on the net have done it. One guy all the way from Little Rock, AK!

    Good luck
  • rav4mnrav4mn Member Posts: 10
I noticed earlier that if you enter zip code 34423 in the toyota.com build your own tool, you see the ACTUAL inventory for the SE region.

Is the a "special" zip code for the midwest region? (Or other regions for that matter). (If I enter my zip code the build your own tool acts completely differently, and does NOT show any inventory info whatsoever.)

I am after a Blizzard Pearl, V6 Limited, tow pkg, three rows, taupe interior, sun roof, and am having a devil of a time in the midwest region. (But I am being quoted $700 over invoice, Costco price, when/if they find one.)

I have a question on out of state purchases and taxes. Do you pay taxes only in the state you ultimately register/license your vehicle? My real question is...you don't have to pay taxes in both states...right?
  • pittsburgherpittsburgher Member Posts: 1
Hi. I've been reading these posts for a week or two, and decided to check out FitzMall. They gave me a price for a 2007 RAV4 4x4 Sport V6 with JBL, moonroof, tow package, tonneau cover, preferred accessories package, wheel locks and mudguards for $26,546 (plus tax, title and tag). I called a local dealer to see what they would say about that price and they told me the dealer that offered the price was only making $50 on the sale. In fact, the sound of the dealer's voice seemed to indicate he didn't believe the price I quoted to him.

I was a little bummed that I couldn't get the security system or auto-dimming mirror. But I guess I can buy and install the mirror myself. The vehicle is silver, that was the 3rd of my color choices (Red and Flint Mica were tied for 1st).
  • wolfzr2wolfzr2 Member Posts: 20
Roanoke actually falls into the Mid-Atlantic region. I think we're going to end up waiting until at least January-March. Hopefully inventory levels will be higher then.
  • robwar1robwar1 Member Posts: 11
    Hey Jim:

Thanks for that tip. I just saved $88. by going to trdparts. Their prices beat the hell out of my local dealer's. What a great deal! I'll let you know how the rest of the purchase goes. I assume you have bought from them.

    Thanks again

    Rob
  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
Well you are picking a RAV that is maybe .1% of the total

SE region is the only one I can find that shows all the cars.

But if you go to buil and price for your zip code and ones close to you and select dealers then you can go to the web site of each dealer and look at "new inventory". The trouble is it can be tedious and some dealers show the cars but not the options. But if you looking for a Limited with 3rd row it is going to be in the $30. In the NE they only come with leather as far as I can see.
    Have fun
  • wolfzr2wolfzr2 Member Posts: 20
I think we're going to forget about the 3rd row, seeing as it's only good for kids or guys named Mini-Me.
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
No, you don't pay taxes in both states....just the state where you register it.

We'll finally purchased my 2007 RAV4 Limited. Took 4 weeks to get here and so far very pleased. Paid $500 over invoice and out the door with options including sales tax it came to $26,000. I'm sure it was not the "deal of the century" but we got the color and options we wanted so we may have paid a little more than what would have been spend at a wholesale outfit. I also like the idea of working with a sales person and a manager that will "bend over backwords" to make sure I'm happy.

This car has some zip for a 4 cyl. and very fun to drive!! I think I got a decent deal?
  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
If you got a 2007 Limited for $500 over invoice with what you wanted you got a good $deal and your happy! Getting what you want is harder than getting a good price with Toyota it seems.

    Enjoy
  • cjosephsoncjosephson Member Posts: 24
    JMID4,

Yes, I'm very happy so far. This vehicle drives like nothing I've ever driven before. I have a bad back and the lumbar support is unreal. I think I could drive for hours without getting a sore back. I'm very impressed!

I too agree, I have the V6 Sport and I took a short trip...about 600 miles a little bit ago. What a surprise, the car was very comfortable. Let me tell you though the V6 is the star of this show...there is nothing like it out there..I look forward to my commute every morning. ;)

continues...first of all, I love my RAV4 V6 Sport...but I am completely unhappy with the dealership..(except for service). I am still waiting for my refund on GAP which I cancelled over a month ago. Yes, I have called Toyota Customer Care and they were extemely nice. They said I would get a call from King but nothing has happened. The most upsetting thing is that the finance manager out and out lied to me. When we made the final deal he said he would sell me the care at his cost. I asked if that was Edmunds price. He said yes. I asked to use a computer to check it. He said he did not have internet access as other were using the internet for porn. I should have know right there and than that something was wrong. I said well I will go home and check. He promised me and I trusted him that I did not need to do that and he guaranteed that the figure he gave me was the figure on Edmunds. He lied..it was $1000.00 more. When I went bac to the dealer they told that finance manager was no longer with them...and that supposedly solved the problem....can you believe it??? It is hard for me to believe that a large dealership would resort to this type of tactic. Oh, I checked the web site tonight of King Toyota in Deerfield Florida and checked a page they had set asside for Customer Testimonials...guess what...there were none!!!!

My parents picked theirs up on Monday. Ordered it from the factory. Family deal so they go it a few thousand below invoice.

It is in that gorgeous Savannah metallic color (champange) with a tan leather interior. Took 5 weeks to arrive.

It is a 2007 V6 RAV4 Limited, fully loaded (leather, moonroof, JBL with blouetooth, heated seats, tow package, mats, cargo mat, etc).

The only option they did not get was the entertainment center.

Guess family really is everything :)
  • vegasresidentvegasresident Member Posts: 22
2007s are also longer than the 2006.
  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
2007 is exactly the same as 2006 except for cupholder inserts and JBL has bluetooth and Sat radio compatiblity
  • vegasresidentvegasresident Member Posts: 22
I think the 2007 also made it standard with seat-mounted side airbags for both front passenger and driver, as well as two curtain airbags.

I made a mistake on the length. It was the 2006 that got longer and the 2007 is the same length.

    To Jimd4,
I live in NY too. if u get the car @ Fitzgerald Auto Mall, r u need to go to there to pick up the car, or they can delivery to your area to u?
  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
You go there. You can go to BWI airport or DC airport or DC train station and they will bring car there. They will not bring it to your house but I guess the could arrange to have it shipped for you. You can fly from Long Island to BWI for $29+Tax on Southwest if you buy ticket over internet.

    Where are you in NY?
  • phanatic06phanatic06 Member Posts: 7
I got a price quote for $25,186 plus TTL for an '07 RAV4 limited AWD 4cylinder with JBL, moonroof and daytime running lights. This price is supposed to be $400 over invoice ($24786 + $400). Edmunds.com says the invoice is $24,397 which should make my price $24797. Could the invoice price on Edmunds be off by almost $400? Is this a good deal?
  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
The Edmunds price does not include advertising fees (TDA)which is $418 in NY and could vary. There are other considerations that are not in the Edmunds invoice number.

Also, focus on how much less than MSRP your are paying. MSRP is known and can be found at the Toyota site for any model and option. If your gettting more than $2000 off invoice and not paying any high fees you are starting to approach the sweet spot of RAV4 pricing at least for now.

You are not getting the car at dealer cost. You are getting it at a good market price at Fitzmall.

If you can wait, do it. Sales are slowing and prices will come down. But if you find what you want and want it, Fitzmall is a good as you can get.

No one seems to sell RAV4 for a lower price than fitzmall unless you know someone in fleet sales etc.
  • guestguest Member Posts: 770
Jim...you are starting to quote me. :)

    You said;
If your gettting more than $2000 off invoice and not paying any high fees you are starting to approach the sweet spot of RAV4 pricing at least for now.

Wish that were true. I think you meant MSRP.

OH yes, my mistake. My new 2007 RAV4 V6 Sport arrives tomorrow afternoon so my mind (what is left of it) is wandering I guess.

I just put my deposit down on a Black 07 V6 awd Base model last night. I've been looking for awhile and finally pulled the trigger. Got about $900 of MSRP...nothing special but everytime I said anything about price they just brought up the idea of a FWD or i4...
Didnt have much time to hold out becuase I had to register my old Rodeo in Missouri and it wasnt going to pass MO inspections. Anyways Im happy with the purchase, dealer was very helpful finding what I wanted.
Should be here in a week or so~ :)
  • daqule76daqule76 Member Posts: 6
was it a few thousand below invoice or below MSRP?
  • jimdrewjimdrew Member Posts: 84
after calling Toyota Customerr Care I got a call today from King Toyota Customer Care...about my GAP cancellation. The lady was very nice. She said it was cancelled on Sept 9th and money went to bank. I told her no, I have the paperwork in front of me and it was cancelled on August the 13th...and what bank did the refund go. She spoke broken English and said she did not know but would forward me to the Finance Manager...could not get the Finance Manager but said she would call me...that never happened. Of course she said nothing could be done about being lied to about the invoice price...somehow I knew that. Toyota Customer Care has been very fast but when it gets down to King Toyota...nothing happens. RAV4 is great..still average around 24 in mixed driving and I have checked it several time.

I just bought a new RAV4 from Daytona Toyota. My sales rep and the manager were very accommodating. I waited 4 weeks to get the RAV4 I wanted (2007 Limited 4 cyl with JBL upgrade and bluetooth) and there were no pressure sales to buy off the lot. I avoided the unnecessary costs like the toyogaurd (saved $699) and it gave me time to research prices and sell my car instead of trade-in. I also got my loan pre-approved by my local credit union so I didn’t have to deal with the dealership’s finance department and be pressured into buying GAP and other warranties or insurance I did not need. When I walked into the dealership I had the down payment check, loan envelop, and old tag from the car I sold. No hassle buying! I new the prices and agreed to pay the $500 over invoice. I think by selling my car and not trading it in and having all of my loan work done ahead of time, I saved myself at least $3000 not to mention avoiding the aggravation of negotiations with the trade and finance department. I would highly recommend selling your car and have loan work done ahead of time before purchasing a new car. By the way, I love my new RAV4!

After 2 months of research, I purchased a black 2007 RAV4 Limited 4x4 V6 for 27,000 +TTL = $29416.74 . Black was my last choice but there were only (2) 2007 and (1) 2006 among 9 dealers in the sacramento region with the options I wanted. I used Consumer Reports new car price service ($14) to determine invoice ($25969), MSRP ($28749), holdbacks ($517 based on 2006 figures).

2007 RAV4 Limited 4x4 V6 w/ JBL w/Bluetooth, 3rd Row Seat, Tow package, floor mats, Rear bumper applique.

    Paid Cost Breakdown:
    Car 27000
    Document prep fees 45
    Sales tax 2096
    DMV electronic file 28
    License fees 176
    Registration 63
    CA Tire fees 8.75
    TOTAL $29416.74

In hindsight, I think I got an OK deal considering the rarity of the model and options i wanted in my region but I wish I started at a lower beginning price (say, invoice of $26000). I think I could have gotten it at a better price considering what I've read on this forum with people getting it close to invoice or below. All i know is if you stick to one fair price, the dealer will probably end up selling it to you. The sales manager tried to go in between the MSRP and my firm $27,000 3-4 times to no avail.

Has anyone else purchased a similar third row RAV4 Limited V6 4x4? What did you pay? Do any fees above look excessive? Any other negotiating, research, tips to share for my next vehicle purchase?
  • vivavegas99vivavegas99 Member Posts: 39
Ours is pretty much the same as yours w/out the 3rd row because we got the 2006. So it didn't come with blue tooth, but we got the side curtain airbags which were optional. We also got the moonroof. We paid $28,000 for ours. Gotta remember these RAV4s are very popular right now so it's hard to wheel and deal with them. We ended up taking the price because they met us on our trade in. We knew we couldn't get what we wanted for the trade anywhere else. We also got black, but that is because Nautical Blue wasn't an option in our region.
  • guestguest Member Posts: 770
    Below MSRP
  • cjosephsoncjosephson Member Posts: 24
The price sound about right. You're going to pay at the mid-point between invoice and MSRP. That would be a good deal. Anyone who says they paid less than invoice or just above purchased a base model or one sitting on the lot. Limited models 4 or 6 cyl with certain or lack of ertain options will cost $500 over invoice. If you can get a better deal, you are going to get what you pay for. As far ordering from these auto malls, how much really do you save and is it worth it when you have a problem. Going to a dealership is no big deal. Be up front and honest with them and they will treat you with respect.
  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
It should have been off MSRP! Whoops...
  • jimd4jimd4 Member Posts: 877
If you pay at the mid point between MSRP you left a bunch of money on the table for sure.

In the east there is no problem getting a RAV4 for $500 over invoice if you work at it a little. And I am not talking about just taking anything. I am talking about getting what you want. You may wait a month or two but you can get it. Except for Limited with leather and RAV4 with 3rd row. Hard to find. And it is possible to get what you want close to invoice if your lucky. Remember if you pay invoice the dealer still probably makes a $1000 on a well equipped RAV4 in the end. And you can buy at a mall and your local dealer will be glad to see you if you have a problem and need service. They get paid by Toyota to fix stuff.

After about 4 days of emails and visiting Toyota dealerships, I bought an '07 RAV4 i4 LTD with JBL stereo, sunroof package for about $400 under invoice ($24400). I think the key was printing out the prices from Fitzmall as a starting point. Their prices are $400 over dealer invoice (which probably includes Toyota dealer advertising fees). Then I just kept shopping around at various local dealerships until someone was willing to dip into their holdback. I added aftermarket heated leather seats for about $1300. Expect to pick it up in about 10 days. CAN'T WAIT!
  • redtrain75redtrain75 Member Posts: 15
Sounds awesome and a pretty good price. Good luck. We have the base model for about 6 weeks (980 miles) and love it so far.
  • guestguest Member Posts: 770
Are talking Edmunds invoice? That would be a very good price indeed. If you are talking $400 below an invoice price that includes advertising, that would be just a tad over Edmunds invoice. That is still a very good price. I haven't notice any posts on this site or at RAV4world.com where anyone has purchased a RAV for near Edmund's invoice. Fitzmall's 06 models are going for $200 under their invoice. At that price, the buyer is paying about $200 over Edmund's invoice.

Anyone can fly at islip. I can tell you how to get a RAV4 for less if you are a serious no nonsense buyer, ready to buy and take the truck as soon as it comes in.

    I got mine last week.
  • cjosephsoncjosephson Member Posts: 24
Edmonds invoice for the RAV4L (I4) with moonroof and JBL is $23,200. TMV is $24,800 which is $400 below what you paid which is a very good deal. I couldn't getbany dealers to "dip" into their holdbacks. That's a no no. They have to make a profit. I called around and the best I could do was $500 over invoice. I guess I could have flown to these automalls and save some $ but to me it wasn't not worth my time.I got a fair deal and I'm very happy with my RAV4. I paid $23,500 give or take a few dollars. I think I got a fair deal.
  • cjosephsoncjosephson Member Posts: 24
Forgot to mention I got a pacific blue, ash interior RAV4L with floormats and JBL upgrade. I'm in the SE region.
  • phanatic06phanatic06 Member Posts: 7
Actually, the invoice for the car I bought on Edmunds is $24221 (with TMV being $26346) because of the way Toyota adds on options as a package. You can't individually select options. You have take the whole package of options together (carpet floor mats, JBL stereo, moonroof, daytime run. lights) so the Edmunds invoice/TMV/MSRP listing can be deceptive.
