As for the labor costs, my dealer, Crowley in Plainville, CT hasn't charged nearly anywhere those prices.
How are the labor rates calculated for the Maintenance Guide?
Thanks!

What! Why? Synthetics are used to prevent frequent oil changes. Sounds like a $100 VW money maker to me.
It took my local shop a week to get me a 17 inch Dunlop - it was supposedly mailed to Texas first. I am in Virginia. I take it in and they change the tire. In the meantime I had called the Dealership to see if they had a tire. They did not tell me not to have anyone else change the tire. At this point, after the tire is changed, I start to drive off the lot and a fault appears. "Running Gear Workshop". It does not mention the Tire....so I think O.K. some sensor is messed up. I drive for a few days and finally get it into the Volkswagon dealership. Diagnostic testing reveals the following: When the local shop changed my tire, they cut thru the air suspension sensor- probably with their lifts. This sensor is connected to the wheel strut and the entire strut needs to be replaced. Cost = $1,400. Of course the insurance of the local shop is paying for this. BUT....the part is not in the United States and I am told to be prepared for it to take 2 months. Insurance company has expedited the shipping on the part and hopefully it will be here before then. All in all everyone involved has been great....the Volkswagon dealership (once they realized I did not do this to my vehicle!) and the local shop as well as the insurance company.
Please all, just be aware of taking your Toureg to just any shop to change the tire - or at least make them aware of this sensor. Better yet, stand their while they "Lift" the vehicle. I know Volkswagon does not want anyone but their own dealerships touching this car. It says this in the manual regarding the Tire pressure sensors themselves...but to my knowledge it does not adequately explain just what can happen.
And remember this part is NOT in the US. YUK! I really just want my Toureg back. However, the learning curve on this vehicle is long.....I really will have to wait and see if I buy another one....depending on what else happens. All vehicles have problems....this I know. I will appreciate any additional info anyone else has who either has knowledge of this Fault or has experienced it.
Pushing buttons 1 and 3 as instructed do not make the light blink to activate the "instruction" mode.
I'm the one w/the bad rear differential (supposedly). They replaced it, however, I'm still hearing the same whistling, almost vibrating noise coming from the right rear of the vehicle. Of course the dealership can't duplicate it so, I'm in a holding pattern right now. They basically told me they have no idea what's causing it but they "think" it may be the tires warming up?? I'm extremely frustrated. Does your noise happen all of the time? I'd love to discuss this w/you further & the response from your dealer.
I notice my wind whistle when I get up around 45 to 50 mph.....and not until then. It "sounds" to me as if it is on the right side of the vehicle...and is a "high pitch whistle...just like wind streaming thru some vacant spaces along the right side.
First, the dealer told me that it was just the nature of the Toureg. I told them they would have to take the car back...as it drove me nuts. That said, I suggested to the dealer that it may be the racks...since someone on this forum made that suggestion. The dealer adjusted the racks....told me "THATS THE PROBLEM!!!!" and that they had fixed it. They didn't.
Interestingly enough....we got a lot of snow and ice here during one week. It covered the entire vehicle. When I drove it with the ice covering the car...PARTICULARLY where the windshield meets the car......IT DID NOT WHISTLE !!!!!!!! I thought this important!!!!Obviously, the ice covered up the entry way for the wind!!! So...I am thinking it is coming in thru the windshield, traveling all along the right side of the vehicle between the door panels or something like that. See....mine sounds like it is starting in the front of the vehicle.....but then I am in the front. I would think that depending on how large the GAPS are, where they start, where it ends and where we sit....all might influence how it sounds and where we THINK it is coming from.
Yes, mine happens all the time....when I am traveling above 50 mph....between 0 and 45 or so it does not happen. I can't hear it when I have the window down....or the radio on. Does this help at all?
Any more details on yours?
I have not taken it in for this particular problem again.....since they have my vehicle for another issue with the rear fault on the air suspension system...and it can not be driven until this is fixed. However, I will be asking them to do so.
I will take them off tomorrow....and let you know...if this solves it. I hate to take them off since they look good on...but the whistle has to go...
Sounds like its coming from roof rack, however it doesn't sem to be as bad as some here are getting. Also, what's way worse is loud noise/vibration I'm getting when driving with sunroof close to or fully opened & going over 20 mph.Extremely loud/irritating. Haven't told dealer but getting ready to. By the way, roof rack noise disappears when both racks are locked together in furthest rear position, guess that's why every Touareg on every dealer lot I've ever seen has the racks in this position....try it yourself.
i purchased a v6 toureg last week. i have experienced two major problems since. the wind noise seems to be coming from the rear of the car. i have complained and i will meet with the sales person on Saturday for a test drive. as we converse on the phone he eludes to the possibility of the racks on top of the car. i don't believe that that is the case. Most importantly is that i now feel unsafe in the vehicle do to a shifting problem. i was in my car driving 80 miles and suddenly had the need to merge. because i reduced my speed suddenly the car began to jerk as if it were choking and about to die on me. this has happened twice. i love the car but i love me more.

Boat and trailer weighs in at ~5000 pounds. Towed it from Houston to SC. Treg did great towing it, plenty of power with the V8, braking was also good (trailer has surges brakes).

Very nice picture though. Notice how the air suspension has brought the car back to level even though the tongue weight is around 500 lbs. Owner said gas mileage on the trip was only about 14 mpg though.
"There is a TSB for the TPM system. What is says is that the new part number: 7L0 907 273 supercedes all other TPM control modules.
I had mine replaced today. The difference between the new and old modules is that you no longer have warm (actual) tire pressures displayed in the MFI."
Description of problems you experienced with your new Touareg match exactly with my discoveries.
I have learned that there is a solution to increase remote FOB distance. VW dealers are aware about the problem and know how to solve it. My V8 Touareg in the shop now for 5K service. My service advisor promised to increase FOB. However, I would like to know if you were successful to resolve breaks squeaking problem. I complained to my VW dealer and VW of America. Both gave me the same answer. Metallic break are noisy and nothing we can do about it. I cannot believe this answer. I drove less expensive cars and none had breaks as noisy as my Touareg. By the way the problem did not go away with more miles on the car. My car has 5K miles on it. Did your problem go away ? Let me know.
Thanks.

NAV: Why won't the system take you to an exact street address? My Acura, Lexus + Lincoln nav systems let you.
What are the single buttons behind the steering wheel controls for?
Dealer tells me it will take "weeks" to get the part to fix the airbag fault problem. What's the deal w/ that?

Thanks.

Other issues- My dealer called me and asked if I wanted to come in and have the key-fob distance fixed. The distance great now and I'm able to open my back hatch which I wasn't able to do before.
I've been reading some posts complaining of horrible service. I recently changed dealerships and it made all of the difference in the world. The one I go to now always has a loaner. A VW, not from a rental car company. They tell me exactly what's up and how long it's going to take and the last time I had it in, they cleaned the inside and outside of the truck and even put air in the tires of my son's bike that was in the back. It's little extras like that that take some of the hassle out of having to bring it in.
Electric Trailer Brakes:
There is a connector under the dash. Here is info on the Tekonsha Prodigy, where the connector is located and how to wire it: http://tm-techmark.com/touareg/PDFfiles/Tip%202%20Volkswagen%20To- uareg%20Porsche%20Cayenne.pdf
Navteq POIs:
This is an issue that I am hoping VW will resolve with the next version of the Navteq CDs. The resturants are all on the CDs but they just don't show up on the map. If the software is anything like the Garmin iQue3600, then there is a way to indicate how much detail you want displayed on the map. Unfortunately, this is hidden from the user by VW/Blaupunkt/Bosch. I recently received a software upgrade for the nav system from Germany but it didn't address this issue.
Squeaking brakes:
I haven't had this problem but I've heard from other Touareg owners who have had this problem and have had their rotors and pads replaced under warranty to solve the issue. Best is to demonstrate the problem with the service manager in your car. When the brakes squeak so loud thathe can't stand it you should get good service.
