The LR3 is an astonishing vehicle. Do yourself a favour and see if the dealer you are working with has any Wheels events. They are bit tame compared the the Experience centres, but they give you an idea of what they can do.
I just got back from the Montebello Land Rover Experience Center, and my wife and I had a hoot! It is absolutely incredible the punishment these trucks can take. Don't let the pretty looks fool you - this truck can work hard and do things other SUVs can only aspire to. I saw one LR3 recently with the bumper sticker: Jeep Recovery Vehicle. It was completel coated in mud, and was towing a Jeep Willys on a trailer - the Jeep had less mud on it.

I haven't really seen that much in the way of tire wear problems except on early build 2005 MY LR3s. I haven't seen any on 2006 MY cars that I can think of. They are very heavy vehicles so getting 30,000 miles out of a set of tires even with very agressive rotation scheduales is not going to be very likely.
Besides - I expect to change tires on all my vehicles every 20-25 thousand miles anyways... just for the safety and grip issues. It wasn't something that I wasn't expecting with this vehicle.

Previously, I had a 2002 Mercedes ML500 that was a good reliable vehicle. I like the build quality, ride and roominess of the LR3 much better.
My tires seem to be wearing perfectly.
With the third row flat folding seats, the cargo carrying capacity is amazing. Recently, I bought a piece of furniture that I was concerned about it fitting in the back of the LR3. I thought I was going to have to put the second row down to accomadate the large box. I knew that my width was fine but the depth is what I was concerned about. To my surprise and amazement, this huge box fit without me having to lower the second row. I did have to remove the rear cargo cover as it blocked the height of the box. This box would have never fit in the Mercedes.
I'm a very happy Land Rover customer so far!!
I do wish I could get the 14 mpg's stated on the sticker for city driving as I'm getting about 12 in the city.

I have never seen the problem on a Range Sport so I guess they are just covering themselves in case it does show up. The suspension geometry on the RRS is a little different then the LR3 and the RRS is a little bit lighter as well.
Under this bulletin they are assuming 30,000 miles is normaly tire wear. Tires that are worn unevenly and prematurly at 10,000 to 15,000 miles will be prorated at 50%.

I believe I've had a very similar experience in that I too had to drive up to Mission Viejo LR from San Diego to purchase my '06 LR3 HSE. Bear in mind that I had purchased a new Disco back in '01 from Miramar (unfortunately my sales rep, who was pretty good, stayed with the Porsche side of the house when they divided...Hmmm) but their best offer for me as a prior customer was close to 2K off from a number of other SoCal LR dealers including Mission Viejo. Needless to say I made the drive and experienced the best treatment purchasing a vehicle yet. I saved money, they made thiers, and I will drive to have my LR serviced at the slightest excuse (the Lakers play up in that neighborhood, don't they?)
By the way,
-3700 miles
-paint flaw on tailgate
-buzzing front speakers (both sides) problem
-chattering windscreen fascia (at highway speed)
-ungodly crappy transmission performance (programing, I think) at low speeds
Other than that, I love it...
Cheers
There's a tech notice about buzzing speakers on the www.landrovertechinfo.com web site.

I get none of the problems you are describing on my 2006 LR3 HSE and it's tyres. It's one of the smoothest driving vehicles I've ever had - in fact my wife complains about how smooth it is, because when she's passing someone, she can get up to 90-100 mph without even feeling like she is going that fast.

This is my first time posting on this forum I have been shopping around for an SUV since May 06. For the last 24 years I have owned only Ford products (2 x Escorts, 1 x Probe GT, 2 x Explorers XLT and 3 x Windstars SELs). Presently my wife has a little Ford Escape XLT and I drive around a 01 Focus SE which I bought used 2 years ago to commute to work. I never had any major problems with any of these cars except for my Probe GT. It had a re-occurfing left tail light assembly fogging problem. After getting it replaced twice on the warranty, Ford's good will ranout. I drilled 4 little holes at the bottom of the assembly with my DREMEL drill and it was the end of that....Coming back to the LR3 I have read all 402 pages of this forum over the past few weeks and overall I retain a positive impression of the LR3 despite the worrisome electrical problems that seem to plague this great SUV. I have also noticed something else. From pages 320 to 402, which coincides with the arrival of the 2006 model, the number of reported major problems appears to gradually decline. Many of the ones I have read refered to 2005 models. I hope this is a clear indication that LR is solving the earlier problems and reliability is on the rise.
I recently test drove a 2006 LR3 V6 SE7 and simply loved it. I wanted to test drive the V6 to see if it was up to the task and generally it was excpet that I only 2 of the 4 kids in the LR and not much luggage. I will most likely settle for the V8 in the end. I am considering 2 other vehicles: The BMW X5 3.0i 2007 with third row seat and the 2007 Ford Exepedition EB or Limited. With 4 kids I need space and cargo room but two of them are teenagers and will eventulally leave the house so I might not need a vehicle as large as the Expedition.
I am waiting to test drive the X5 and Expedition before I make up my mind but the LR3 is still the front runner. The only area of concern remains the reliability issue :confuse: I hope the 2007 models will have solved many of the major issues. I can live with small problems, all vehicles have them. I would be interested your thoughts
Finally does anyone know if changes have been made in terms of both standard and optional equipment for the 07 model?
Cheers from Ottawa, Canada

To those ends, we will be shutting down the general make/model discussions and work exclusively with specific issues. This requires us to populate the make/model subsections with relevant, interesting and timely topics. Rather than having the hosts simply create boilerplate topics for each make/model, we feel that you, the owner, the make/model enthusiast and the prospective buyer can best judge what those topics should be.
You can help by adding a discussion (it's easy!) or suggesting one here.
To add a discussion, click on the last link in the "You are here" line at the top of this page. That will take you to the topic page for this make/model. Review the list of topics and click on the "Add discussion" link when you've decided what topic you'd like to add. Follow the directions and you're done! Feel free to add more than one. Just avoid duplicating existing topics and try not to make it TOO specific!
Your help and continued participation in the Forums is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
I think I am just going to call the dealership and watch while they take off and inspect the tires...I know at least one or more of them has an issue, I have never had tires that sounded like this, on a car this expensive, or with only 6,000 miles. Or I might take it too Goodyear, get their advice, then take it to the dealer. I think the dealer is avoiding the issue, so they won't have to replace the tire/tires.
Another interesting note about the various rattling...I never had a problem until the past couple weeks, now I have a rattle coming from both the middle seat area and front passenger door (can't pinpoint the exact place of either rattle, but I'm trying). It takes the slightest bump in the road for both these areas to rattle - very annoying.
If I hold the area right in front of the dome light up, then my rattles stop right away.
I just got mine back from the dealer, where they did some work, and now it's back to normal.
As for the doors, I had a loose cable behind the speakers. It was causing a rattle, as well as because it was touching the speaker, the speaker would buzz when low notes came through on the radio/cd.
That's all fixed now too, so my truck is back to 100% quiet.

If you haven't bought it already, go with your gut and get the LR3. The Expedition really isn't in the same class, and the X5 is so much more commonplace.
I've had my '06 V8 SE for a few months now, and haven't had any reliability issues. No tire noise, no rattling, etc. And I've driven it over 7,000 miles already.
JR
Is it a good assumption that tires will need to be replaced at 20k miles? other thoughts?
:shades: Thank you for the advice, I am about 99% decided in favour of the LR3.
Have you heard about the new custom mapping feature in the Land Rover navi system? It's all up on the Land Rover website but you can plot your points of interest and generate a picture of it, for example I could enter certain points in and have it resemble the washington monument........pretty cool, let me see a Jeep do that!
GPS security & recovery system
Power electric lumbar, etc, etc, etc
If I hear they put an ipod connector on it, it may just send me to the dealer to say WHASSUP?? Hopefully some of the things can be added later for those of us who have already taken the plunge.
I shoulda waited!!!

Everything else is just speculation and I haven't seen any bulletins on it.
The lumbar support was on 2005 MY LR3s and was dropped on the 2006 MY cars for some reason.
This is my first time owning a car with Navigation so this might be a stupid question.
It seems that the audio navigation only come out of my left door speaker(seems logical). Allot of times when my wife is driving I would like to have it come through both front speakers but can't find a way to do it. Anyone know if this can be done?
Here is what Ford has on their web site about the new LR3
"For 2007, leather trim, a power sunroof, and a 240-watt harman/kardon ® nine-speaker sound system are all standard equipment. All V8 models are now equipped with three-row, seven-passenger seating. Aluminum-alloy wheels fitted to the V6 SE are a new design this year. A power lumbar adjuster has been added to the driver’s seat while the front passenger-side power window responds to one touch. Power seat adjusters operate when the ignition switch is in the off position. For lane-change convenience, a new three-flash position has been incorporated in the turn-signal switch. To supplement the time display in the radio, a clock has been added to the driver’s information center in the instrument cluster. "
Is it possible for a reasonably agile adult to access the third row via folding down the middle seat in the second row? We have twins - so two car seats - which I would prefer to mount in the outer positions using the latches.
It appears that the LR3 can be imported to Canada from the US. I have gone this ay on other vehicles - better choice, better price. Has anyone done this with an LR3 - and if so - are any mods required (does not appear that to me that any are required). Also - will LR honor the warranty?

tidester, host
I just leased a 2007 LR3 HSE Tonga/Alpaca. The dealership is Land Rover Ottawa. Here are some details:
a. Retail price $72,794.00 (canadian)
b. $2500.00 rebate brings cost to $70,294.00
c. Cold climate package is standard in Canada
d. APR is 4.9%
e. 39 MONTH LEASE WITH 75,000KM MONTHLY PAYMENT with tax $1131.20
f. Residual value $40,373.20
This includes rubber floor mats all three rows and cross bars for cargo rack. I am looking at adding the front and rear mud flaps and running boards. I have two young children and two teenagers figured they would be a good accessory to add.
Delivery 2 to 3 weeks the vehicle appears to be in Halifax.
Looking forward to it and will keep you posted. :shades:
Heavy Duty model, with locking rear dif, and full-sized spare.
Third row seats
mud flaps
seat covers
wood trim (looks nice!)
Dual DVD Screens in roof liner
Towing pkg with electrics
3M clear nose protectant covering
If you do a lot of highway driving, I'd recommend the 3M protective coating as well. I've taken quite a few stones off the nose, and this stuff really works to keep your pait intact.
Cheers!

A fair amount of my driving is highway. I am waiting for dealer to give me price on front and rear mud flaps and running boards. I have two small children and they are having a hard time getting in my wife's Escape.
The 3M clear nose protectant was that dealer installed or you got it done by a specialized shop??
Cheers!

It's a little pricey, as it hasn't been around long enough to have a decent amount of competition to drive the prices down, but in my case, I figured if I was spending this much on a leasing a truck, then I may as well do everything I can to protect it to keep the end-of-lease police off my back.
Sorry, it's not a mini-van and I just don't see how it's possible. I'm fairly agile, and there's no way I could do it... (I'm 5'10", so not the largest of guys...)
If that's what you're looking for, I would suggest a new Tahoe or (gulp) Hummer H2 (although they only have 6-passenger seating) and put the child seats together.
The Tahoe has slightly higher tow rating (even better with the 4WD) and the H2 slightly lower towing.
How about posting some pics on your CarSpace page when you get a chance?
Thank you for the info. I will look into that. I was informed yesterday that my 2007 LR3 HSE has arrived. They are waiting for the running boards. I am picking it up 30 Nov in the morning. Can hardly wait. Based on your recommendations I asked the dealer to add the front and rear mud-flaps and the running boards.
Morocco2 :shades:
I don't have the running boards myself, as I do want to offroad this baby (yes, I know - nobody offroads a lease, but what the heck - I'll do some mild stuff) so I thought the running boards may be an issue with that - as for the mud flaps, they come off with two quick-to-remove bolts, so I keep an old ratchet in the rear with the right socket on it to take em off whenever I need.
Congrats on the new truck! For my wife and I, it was like bringing home a new baby!

Any clues as to what this may be? :confuse:
