My dealer told me you could not order 2008's as of 2 days ago? Are you sure about the year? I Called Ford SVT and they say they are not taking orders for 2008 as of now? Make sure you have it in writing. My dealer has been straight up with me from what I have found, but if I could have ordered a 2008 2 days ago and could have gotten a 2008 at the same time period (4 Months) I will be mighty pissed off. Did you get a copy of the order, and does it say a 2007 or a 2008 at the top of the page? Shelbydude please confirm that 2008's are not available to be ordered yet?

"Well there goes your free enterprise and supply/demand theory. Some dealers are cornering the market by grabbing them up from other dealers. You must admit that helps to make the price stay high."

Huh? Who said DEALERS were the only ones who could do that? What's to keep some rich guy with millions in cash on hand from buying up 40 or 50 Shelby's himself to 'corner the market' (btw - just how does one 'corner the market' by buying 20-40 Shelby's when Ford will build roughly 8000 for this model year?).

It's called 'speculation'. These guys (whether private individuals or dealers) are SPECULATING that the market for this car will STAY red-hot and thus justify the higher price. It's all the market. These dealers have also taken a large RISK because I'm sure they didn't buy them for MSRP from the original dealers so they've got their [non-permissible content removed] waving in the breeze if they find that they're still sitting on unsold inventory 3-4-5 months from now.

The market system works. If you don't like the price, don't buy the car. Would you somehow feel better if Ford had set the MSRP at $100k and then was offering $20k rebates? Would buyers then be getting a 'steal' if they bought Shelby's for $75k?

    nipntuck,

You can't "place" a order with Ford right now for a 2008 but you can put a deposit on one with a dealer where you will be able to get one ordered as soon as Ford opens the order banks for them.

What he did was he locked himself in on a pre-order for a 2008. Production on the 2008 should beging in June 2007.

We can sell our 2008 allocation ahead of time to anyone wanting to commit to buying one. Collect a deposit and as soon as the order can be placed the dealer contacts the customer to select whatever color and available options they want. Then it is just a waiting game until Ford pulls the order and schedules it. So the vehicle could be built the first month of 2008 production or be months later.

So your 2007 could be built in May which should be the last month of production where someone else ends up with a 2008 built in June.

In your case you know your wait is only going to up to four months because the last month for 2007 production should be May.

Someone getting in line putting down a deposit on a 2008 "possibly" could see it in as little as 4-5 months IF their order is pulled in June during the first month of production. Or it could be May of 2008. It just depends on when Ford schedules the vehicle from any particular dealer.

Many thanks again to shelbydude for his astute contribution. The deposit is indeed for a 2008, which is my preference. I have a gut feeling that, if a 2009 is made, it may have a different appearance which I may not like. I'm hoping they don't switch over to sequential tail lights. That proved to be a bit of a nightmare in my 1968 model, and I finally gave up on it and fixed it for standard blinking.

Is this the best place (Cervini's https://www.cervinis.com/Default.aspx) to buy the rear side window scoops for this car? I see the scoops on their website for $189. Also, I bought my daughter a Mustang GT last year and I found it is a little tight seeing I am 6'3". Is there any way to move the drivers seat back and if so what kind of specialist would do that (Body Shop ,Ford dealer, etc.)? I plan on driving this car 2-3K miles this summer and I don't want to be cramped. I got a quote from State Farm for $670 for 6 months. How does this compare to anyone else out there owning a Shelby? I do need to talk to them about replacement costs over MSRP. Maybe Haverty's has a better plan? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Couldn't say if they are the best place or not. I haven't found to many places to choose from. But Cervinis seems to have a nice looking style to their window scoops over the others. I will probably go with those if I do it.

As for relocating the seat I don't think a Ford Dealer would do it because of any liability issues that may result from it in the event of an accident. You might find a body shop to do it, then again, how much could they move it without removing the back seat? There is barely any room left now if the seat is all the way back.

Did you try tilting the seat back to get a little more room?

My insurance is a $100 month on mine through Farmers.

I just noticed there is a Shelby GT500 Convertible being sold with NO RESERVE! Right now there is only one bid and it is only at $40k.

NO DEALER! This is a private party! So it is USED with 900 miles on it, but so what! MSRP on that car was probably about $49k.

So if this sells for a lot more than that, then who are you going to blame this on??? It is a NO RESERVE AUCTION! So here is your chance to buy one! This is also your chance to see what the MARKET VALUE will really be for this car!

I'd say anything less than $60k would be a steal even though it is USED! The convertibles bring a good premium, but I expect you will jump on this and enter a bid of at LEAST $49k since you said you would buy one for MSRP!

So here is your chance, moronix!!!! Time to step up or shut up! Go for it, man!!!
  • shelbydudeshelbydude Member Posts: 90
Forgot to say it is listed on ebay. Grabber Orange Convertible!

NOTE: I have nothing to do with this vehicle and I do not know the seller. I just seen it listed and wanted to let moronix know about it so just MAYBE he could get lucky enough to buy one for the MSRP price! Also, to let him see for himself that the price on these has nothing to do with the dealers and that is solely the CONSUMERS that are determining the true market value on these based on what the CONSUMERS are willing to pay!
  • bri66bri66 Member Posts: 220
For what I have seen anywhere the Cervini's are probably the closest looking window scoops to the original style on the 67 GT500's. Some people prefer the louver style over the vent style scoops. If I go with any for me the Cervini's would be my choice.
I'm not too sure who you would talk to about moving the seat back. I guess you could start with a local body shop in your area and see what they say. Might be a safety factor preventing a business from doing it, but it won't hurt to make a couple phone calls.
I have Hagerty antique insurance on my 66 coupe for a stated amount of $30K and pay around $225 a year for it. I can't get special interest insurance in the state of Massachusettes for my Shelby. The state does not allow those type of policy's unless it's an antique. For full coverage a year on the Shelby through Hanover Insurance I'm paying around $1K. I dropped collision while it's stored away for the winter in my garage, so I saved a little on it.

Thought I might try and go to this event this summer. Anyone here ever been to one?

Sounds like it will be a good time. It would be great to see all those Shelby's in one location. I know last summer while I was waiting for mine to be built they were talking possibly of having one at the Ford plant in Flat Rock. Events were to open up the assembly plant and tour their facility and meet some of the people that actually made our Shelby's on the line and of course the engineer's that designed it. I won't be able to go the one in June, but if they schedule one in Flat Rock next year, I'm there. If you do go take plenty of photo's and post them here in your album. I would love to see all those Shelby's together.

I understand that the dealers can charge whatever they want for a car. How is negotiating a car price to invoice and below any different than 20% over sticker? As a current owner of a 2002 GT convertable, I was chomping at the bit for a GT500. Upon seeing the car, I was more than willing to plunk down up to 50K for one.

But at the prices that the market has set, I won't be buying a GT500 convertable. I will either get a Corvette or a SLK55. The reason is that the fit and finish of the GT500 is that of a 30K car. The interior of my 2002 is a rattling plastic box. I would be willing to pay the premium if the new Mustang was going to give me any more confidence that this will not repeat itself.

    Ditto.

An alternative to consider is the Roush stage 3, which includes a supercharger. Trouble is, imo, the Roush's are overdressed. Also, not sure the 4.6 L engine was built for supercharging. Could drive it to an early grave. :shades:
  • shelbydudeshelbydude Member Posts: 90
The 04 and older mustangs compared to the 05 and newer mustangs are like night and day. There is no comparison. The 05 and newer are a much, much, much better! They are a lot more solid and have a lot more power.

I understand what you are saying about your 02. Compared to the 05 and newer you are 100% correct. The older ones are and feel a lot cheaper made in construction.

Have you driven the new mustang at all? Drive your 02 and then go drive a new GT Mustang. It will be like night and day between the two.

As for the Roush, I don't personally care for the look for what they cost. I personally like the look of the Saleen a LOT better and for the money.
  • mschmalmschmal Member Posts: 1,757
I believe that you can take the look of the Roush or leave it and still get the power upgrades.

  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
Yeah, you can get the performance upgrades without all the gawdy bodywork.
  • akirbyakirby Member Posts: 8,062
    And vice versa.
  • pony_piratepony_pirate Member Posts: 317
But what about the issue of supercharging an engine not designed to be supercharged? Do you think it can bring on a whole host of problems? (The GT's 4.6 liter small block seems just right, pretty sweet the way it is.) After all, the supercharged GT 500 has an entirely different engine, cast iron as opposed to aluminum, 32 as opposed to 24 valves, more displacement, etc -- it's basically a Ford truck engine. :shades:
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
Apparently supercharging it is no big deal as the supercharged Roush still carries the same 3/36 warranty as every other Mustang. The same applies to the Saleen Mustangs. Both use the standard 4.6L V8 in the Mustang GT.

How difficult is it to access the oil filter on the new Shelby GT500? Does it require a lift bay? I prefer to do my own oil changes.

Some careless mechanic stripped the oil pan drain plug on my 68 GT 500 way back when.

Could the prices be falling? Saw this one go on EBAY for $54K.

I just received an email from a friend who works in the Shelby plant. I ask him to check out the reliance of the Nav System. I thought some of you here might be interested in his response.

    Quote
The GPS is a good one in the Shelby It's the same one in the GT. I talked to one of the Electrical Techs and he said that the Mustang has the 2nd best Electrical system in the world, just a hair under Toyota.(I hate Toyota!) Anyways that is a plus but I was told that if you don't
plan on driving it a lot then you either need to get a battery tender and use it or disconnect the battery because of all the electronics. The battery will only last 28 day's. I suggest getting a battery tender that
has the lead you hook up battery and then you can easily plug in your battery tender without opening the hood.

Anyway I hope that is of interest......
  • rhellerrheller Member Posts: 61
Thank you very much nipntuck. Your post reinforces our decision to order the nav system on our 2008.
The tip about the battery tender is also appreciated because I don't plan on driving the car much during the New England winters. Any recommendation on a particular brand and model? This may sound naive, but I don't want to compromise on one that could "fry" any part of an electrical system. Thanks.
  • bri66bri66 Member Posts: 220
I believe I read somewhere if you order the Navigation you can not order the upgrade shaker 1000 stereo. Not sure if that's a correct statement or not, but I believe I read that somewhere. For me I ordered the shaker 1000 when I placed my order and I won't be driving mine enough to worry about the battery going bad. I much prefer the upgrade to the stereo plus when I drive my Shelby I'm usually not worried where I'm going, just out wasting gas and having fun. Also for me it is important that I sound good when I get to where it is I end up at. ;)
  • mschmalmschmal Member Posts: 1,757
that is in line with my experience with cars on our lot.

As for the price coming down, you have to make sure you are looking at a brand new car verses a used car.

New means never titled before. You can determine if a vehicle is new or used by running a carfax.

Even if a car only has 10 miles on it, if it was titled before, it is now used.

  • rhellerrheller Member Posts: 61
Bri66 - I think that is the concern. Not driving the car much is what drains the battery, because when you run it the alternator recharges it.

BTW - I'm interested in networking with any New England Shelby owners. I hear there is a NH SE seacoast Shelby enthusiast who has some Carroll Shelby memorabilia, including three signed engine bonnets by Mr. Shelby, himself. I would like to track him down, but only know him by Rich.

"As for the price coming down, you have to make sure you are looking at a brand new car verses a used car."

That e-bay listing for a GT500 which sold for $54k was for a car that hasn't hit the dealer's lot yet (from the writeup it was due to hit the lot in late March). So I'd assume that was for a new vehicle....
  • bri66bri66 Member Posts: 220
Not sure what you mean by engine bonnet. I know I sent the cover to my air filter box to Mr Shelby and had that autographed. That was my Christmas present from my family. Once his dash plates become available hopefully sometime this month I want to get one of those. They will have his personal autograph and our GT500 Vin # on them. I believe they will mount to the center of the dash with double sided tape. A lot of Shelby owners have pulled their dash's apart and sent for autograph's, but I'm not ripping mine apart. I will post a picture of my signed air filter cover in my album here at Edmunds so you can see it.
  • rhellerrheller Member Posts: 61
Bri66 - I believe it is an English term referring to the hood. Since I'm all American, I should have said hood. I, too, want one of those dash plates, but won't have my Vin # until later in the year at the earliest.
Please let me (us) know how to navigate to your Edmunds album - thanks.

That's a sweet looking GT 500! Exactly what color is it? Looks like your car was not delivered to a dealership. What state did you purchase it from? Just curious. Was the truck driver able to onload and offload it without damaging the fascia? BTW - I'm not far across the Mass border, in NH.
  • bri66bri66 Member Posts: 220
Alloy with the silver stripes. It was ordered on June 24th and delivered to Franklin Ford on Sep 29th. Small Ford dealer short distance from Framingham, MA. I was amazed it had no scratches at all. Especially where they placed it on the end of the car carrier and I-495 South was under construction at the time.
  • rhellerrheller Member Posts: 61
I don't believe some small Ford dealerships paid FoMo for the privilege to sell Shelby Mustangs, but that's a hunch on my part. You are indeed lucky to have the car delivered in such fine shape. I had my former Buick Wildcat delivered in an open carrier from San Diego to CT. It showed up a mess, with a heavy film of diesel oil all over the car.
I'm having to put down a sizeable, non-refundable down payment on my '08 because I am insisting on no CA emissions package. The dealership customarily orders their cars with the package because bordering states require it.

It is my understanding that now a days, cal emmisions is basically a different warrenty.

Does anyone know what the difference is?
  • rhellerrheller Member Posts: 61
Decades ago it meant worse fuel economy, less HP, and difficulty tuning the engine. I would like to think it has changed, but I doubt its simply a warranty issue.
  • nipntucknipntuck Member Posts: 13
You know what, I still have yet to see your car on the photo page? I don't think this is a very user friendly site. Maybe I'm wrong but is anyone else having problems?

Thank you. Anyone who knows me knows I have Ford oil in my veins. I can't wait till this winter's over so I can start driving them. I'm sure she will post her pictures as soon as she shuts her car off to give it a rest. HA! HA! :shades:

How about a little shop talk for a change.
How accessible is the oil filter and oil pan drain plug on the new GT500?
  • shelbydudeshelbydude Member Posts: 90
    Hey bri66,

The new Shelby GT500 dash plaques are now available online at shelby autos!!! I just ordered mine earlier today. The email said 6 - 8 weeks for delivery.

I'm going to look into having that clear coated to protect Carroll's signature!

I also ordered the Cervini's side scoops and window scoops.

I'll add pics once they are installed after I get them.
  • bri66bri66 Member Posts: 220
Thanks for the info. I've been checking their site daily waiting for this day. I just tried to order, but their web-site to confirm order won't open. I will try again later. You placed your order for the scoops, awesome. Please let me know what you think when you get them.
  • bri66bri66 Member Posts: 220
I haven't done one yet and my first one in April is going to be free from the dealer. However the car as you know is pretty low and I believe you will need a lift to do it. As for location underneath I'm not too sure.
  • bri66bri66 Member Posts: 220
It took me about 100 tries, but I finally got the order in. Their server must be very busy I guess. If anyone has trouble keep trying. I am so glad I waited for these plates vs ripping my dash apart to send the dash plate. You get the $200 autograph (CSCF), the dash plate with vin#, and the sill plates for $300. Not too bad. :shades:

Saw a Shelby on the road, all black, no adornments, no stripes, no chrome wheels, etc., didn't even have any writing on it. It was beautiful. Can see the attraction. The car has its own special character, quite unlike any other car. :shades:
  • rhellerrheller Member Posts: 61
Boy, this forum is slow. Nobody seems to know where their oil filter is under the hood, so let's talk about the styling. How difficult is it to mount the front license plate bracket? Are their indentations to show exactly where the holes go? Any suggestions for straight mounting of the bracket, or does one have to trust the dealership on this one? As much as I would love to avoid it, I really don't want to be hassled by the local police. Carroll Shelby's "Own GT500," which is being auctioned for charity is a blue with white stripes. The front license plate bracket on that particular car looks really nice.
  • bri66bri66 Member Posts: 220
Can't help you with the oil filter. I have yet to look for it. I know as low to the ground as it sits you probably need a lift to get a look under. As for the front license plate I had the dealer install mine. They did show me prior to drilling it where it would go and there were two small dibits on the front bumper you could see under the paint where they drill it out. Take a look at my pictures on my car space and tell me if it looks straight to you. My co-workers I think are just busting me, but they claim mine is crooked. I brought it back to the dealership and they loosened it and re tightened, but they claim they drilled it correctly. Let me know what you think?
