Dealer quoted $431/mo, 36 mo, 15,000 mi/yr, $2500 down. It looks way high given Subaru's May leasing incentives. Appreciate your help.

Hi Jim. I don't remember what the February numbers were like, though you may be able to find them by scrolling back, but I can provide you with this car's current numbers.

Subaru's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2011 Legacy 2.5i Limited CVT with 15,000 miles per year are .00080 and 55%, respectively.

I just leased a 2011 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium on May 16th and I wanted to share my experience along with the lease calculation:

    Silver Steel Metallic/Black Cloth
    MSRP $21,295
    Option Package 2 $500
    All-Weather Package
Heated Front Seats, Windshield Wiper De-Icer,
    Heated Side Mirrors
    Lineartronic CVT Transmission $1,000
    Auto-Dim Mirror/Compass/Homelink $271
    Partial Zero Emission (Pzev) $0
    Destination and Delivery $725
    Total Suggested Retail Price $23,791

    PRICING
    MSRP - $23,791
Gross Cap Cost ***Agreed upon value of vehicle***- $21,640.86
Adjusted Cap Cost ***(Selling Price)*** - $22,734.86 ($21,640.86 + Acquisition Fee $595 and Dealer Handling Fee $499)

    LEASE
(36 months 12,000 miles/yr) *($0 down, first month payment due at signing $299)*
    May Money Factor - 0.00115
    Residual Lease End Value (12,000 miles/yr) - 60% or $23,791 x .60= $14,274.60
    Lease Calculation:
    $22,734.86 - $14,274.60 = $8,460.26/36 months = $235.01
    $22,734.86 + $14,274.60= $37,009.46 x 0.00115 = $42.56
    Payment = $277.57
    Tax (Denver, CO 7.72%) = $21.43
Total Monthly Payment = $299 per month (35 months)

I hope this information is helpful...good luck!

I would love to pull off a lease similar to this. However, my motivation is to get out of negative equity on my vehicle. Our local Suburu dealer is also our Mercedes/Volvo Dealer. I currently drive a Mercedes C230 that I purchased CPO from the dealer. Hoping they will give me best price for my car and help roll it into the lease so I can start fresh. Based on the numbers I see, affodability should be cheaper than my current payment even with the negative rolled in. Is this realistic to hope for?
  • cubuff1cubuff1 Member Posts: 5
I went to 2 Subaru dealers and both told me that there will be an upcoming shortage of new cars due to the Japanese earthquake and they are selling more pre-owned cars and giving better trade-in values. This may help you get a higher trade-in for your existing car. Always get the best sales price possible for the new car and then talk trade-in. Good Luck!

Hi jimvt. I believe that Subaru's residual values for leases with 12,000 miles per year are 1% higher than its 15,000 mile per year residuals.

    Dear Car Man,

Can you please provide me with Subaru's residual rates and money factor for the month of June on a 2011 Legacy 2.5i Limited for 12,000 36 months?

Please also provide the rates and factors for the 2.5i Premium, and 3.6R. Thanks so much.

The numbers for an otherwise identical lease of an '11 2.5i Premium are .00050 and 60%.

    Thanks Car_man,

I was able to pull the trigger on a 2011 Suabaru Legacy Automatic CVT Transmission 2.5i Premium with the All-Weather Package for 12,000 miles/year for 36 months with no money down. The All Weather package gave me, Heated Front Seats, Winshield Wiper De-Icer, Heated Side Mirrors.

They gave me a 59% Residual Rate, and a .00065 Money Factor.

Please let me know if I made a good deal. Here are the lease deals:

    $23,900 MSRP

    $23,000 selling price
    $695.00 Acquisition fee
    ----------------------
    $23,695.00- adjusted total
    -$14,101.00- 59% residual
    ----------------------
$9,594.00- figure used to calculate part one of the lease
    + $75.00- Dlr. reg fee
    + $75.00- to transfer plates
    + $10.00- inspection fee
    + $12.50- NYS tire tax
    -----------------------
    $9,766.50-- Total
    - $0.00-- cap reduction
    -----------------------
$9,766.50 divided by 36 = $271.29 Principle part of lease
    $23,695 + $14,101= $37,796

$37,796- # used to calculate interest charge
    * .00065 Money Factor
    --------------
    $24.57- interest factor
    + $271.29 - Principal
    + $21.30 - Tax 7.2%
    -----------------
    $ 317.16- monthly payment for 35 months

Plus they are getting me out of my current Subaru lease, which had three monthly payments left, waived the disposition fee of $500, and waived my first monthly payment of $317.16 since I am a Subaru Motor Finance loyal customer. Is this deal fair?

This is a quote from a Denver Subaru dealer. I'm looking at leasing a new 11 CVT Legacy 2.5i Premium AWP/Moonroof for 36/15k.

"Thank you for your inquiry into our Subaru Legacy. Please find attached a copy of the Invoice to our Azurite Blue Legacy CVT Premium with AWP & Moonroof as my example. MSRP is $24,915 but the selling price is $22,284 plus our $499.95 dealer fee.

To lease for 36 months with 15,000 miles per year and no money down, just first payment, you are looking at $286 plus tax per month. If your tax rate is 4.9% then thats $14.01 extra."

So lease is coming in at $300/month with $0 down. They have 2.9%/72 financing, which would make my payment around $360-370/month with $0 down.

HELP! I would really like to get the payment around $250/month, is that asking way way too much ($1800 in price difference)??

    car_man,

Could you please give me the money factor and residuals for a 36 month and 39 month 12000 and 15000 mile lease? Any rebates, incentives, holdbacks??? Having a tough time with the dealers in Norther Cali....

    Thanks so much
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
I'd be happy to help you out, jamtracy. Subaru's August buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2011 Legacy 2.5i Premium with auto and 15,000 miles per year are .00015 and 54%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

The numbers for an otherwise identical 39 month lease are .00030 and 52%.

I believe that its residual values for leases with only 12,000 miles per year are 1% higher.

Subaru is currently providing a $500 cash incentive on leases of the '11 Legacy in your area.

    car_man,

My daughter's car has just given out, and we need to buy her another one within the next week!

    What are the residuals/mf for a 2012 2.5i premium, 12K?

Also, a few dealers in my area still have 2011's on the lot. What are the residuals/mf for a 2011 2.5i premium?

    Many thanks!

    Car man,

Could you please give me the November MFs and residuals for 24 and 36 month leases on the 2011 and 2012 Legacy 2.5i Premium (pzev CVT) with 12k miles for a top tier credit buyer? If there are 10k leases, the related information would also be appreciated.

I'm asking for a lot, so thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

I'd be happy to help you out, badger1994. Subaru's November buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36-month lease of a 2011 Legacy 2.5i Premium with 12,000 miles per year are .00040 and 52%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

You definitely do not want to lease for 24-months, Subaru's lease program for that term is terrible.

The residual value for a lease with only 10,000 miles per year is likely 1% higher.

I'm not sure if Chase publishes residual values for leases with more than 15,000 miles per year. Most banks do not, but instead sell lessees additional miles above 15,000 on a per-mile basis for less than they would have to pay for them as a penalty at lease-end.

  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Hi sirbigsley. For some reason either Chase or Subaru does not want people to do 24-month leases. Its money factor for a 2 year lease would be .00320, more than triple the .00100 and less that it is providing for other terms.

I know it's early in the month but I was wondering if the money factor and residuals were available for a Legacy 2.5i Limited lease in New York. If you don't mind could you post it for all available lease terms, 24 months/36 month/39 months/42 months. Could you post the residuals for 15,000 miles a year and clarify if Subaru uses the standard 12,000 mile 2% increase and 3% increase for 10,000 miles. One last thing, is the acquisition fee still $595 or has it gone up and are there any promotions that waive it or is it never waived and just rolled into the "special" lease price? Thanks

Hi battlle. Chase's January buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36-month lease of a 2012 Legacy 2.5i Limited with 15,000 miles per year are .00040 and 52%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

    The numbers for an otherwise identical 39-month lease are .00050 / 50%. The 42-month numbers are .00065 / 49%.

You definitely don't want to lease for 24 months. Subaru's terms for that length lease are terrible.

Subaru increases the residual values for 36- and 39-month terms by 1% for 12,000 miles per year and 2% for 10,000 miles per year.

    For 42-months it bumps them 2% for 12k and 3% for 10k.

Chase's base acquisition fee is indeed still $595. They will not waive it, but you can roll it into your vehicle's capitalized cost to bake it into your monthly payment.

Hi tja1. I also need a selling price in order to work up a payment for you. For now I will just work up a couple of different scenarios.

According to my calculations, if you were to lease a 2012 Subaru Legacy 3.6R Premium that has an MSRP of $28,749 with a $1,000 dealer discount through Chase right now for 39-months with 15,000 miles per year, your zero down, pre-tax monthly payment would be around $337.

A $2,000 discount would drop this car's payment to around $311.

I worked up zero down payments because it is in your best interest as a consumer to put as little down as possible when leasing. Consumers who make large down payments risk losing part or all of them if their vehicle is totaled in an accident or stolen and never recovered.

    Hi carman,
I was just quoted a price on a lease and was wondering if it is a good deal. I am looking at the 2012 subaru legacy 2.5i premium with sunroof and all weather package. On a 42 month lease at 10k per year with $1263 out of pocket (ny taxes and plates) 1st month and dispo fees waived, I was quoted a price of $278.47. The msrp on the car is $25,286. Additionally the car includes, cargo net, all weather mats, auto dim mirrors and rear appliqué .

Please let me know if you think this is worth it. Thank you!!!

    Hi,
just wanted to let you know, the selling price for the subaru legacy I was speaking about in my previous post (#556) is $24,294.

    Thanks :)
  • stackowax1stackowax1 Member Posts: 1
I was just quoted a money factor of .0008 and a residual of 52% for a 42 month lease on a Legacy. The money factor seems rather high. Is there an "official" money factor rate published somewhere? How does one determine what the money factor "should" be?

Other info: the price quoted for a base model 6 speed manual transmission Legacy with Alloy Wheel Package and Popular Package #1 was $20,700 (MSRP=22,701).

Using the money factor above with $2,000 down, the payment came to 234.65.

Hey mooch722. Do you happen to know what this car's selling price is? I ask because the selling prices of leased vehicles are negotiable, just as if you were paying cash for or financing them. Knowing this number makes it much easier to tell how large a dealer discount you are being given and in turn if there is any room left to negotiate. Let me know and either myself or another helpful community member will tell you what they think.

Ah ha, mooch722. I should have scrolled ahead ;). OK, so you are essentially getting a $1,000 discount on this car. I suspect that this car probably has a spread of around $1,750 or so between its full MSRP and its dealer invoice price. That puts you at $750 over invoice, assuming that there isn't any cash incentives on this car in your area. $750 over isn't bad, but I wouldn't want to pay any more than that. If you tell me what state you are in, I can try to find out if there's any cash available on leases of this car in your area that you can use to your advantage during negotiations.
