The worst rattle was one that sounded like ball bearings rolling around in the roof. The dealer fixed the latches once and it seemed to work. It came back and I could get rid of it by lowering the passenger window a bit. It stopped sometime after I put the Rubber Care product on.
About the time I had a dead spot at top dead centre of the steering fixed. It could be that the wobble in the steering was causing a unnoticed vibration that caused the rattle?
It could be that after 80,000 kl the car just settles in and the rattles get less; or maybe the car is just happy now that I own it rather than the leasing company.
Vroom vroom........vrooooooooooommm....mmm.....mmm
Having owned several convertibles I had settled with a Pt Cruiser GT Turbo convertible for being affordable and easy to maintain.
After so much complaining about how ugly the car is, although I like the style, I decided it was time to move on and look for a new convertible and as a requirement it needed to have seats for 4, possibly a hard top.
After considering the options, besides a bmw or a sebring, there isn't much choice for a real 4 seater.
Sebring is crap, bmw too expensive, so I decided to go for the G6.
After several months looking for one that would catch my eye, I finally found a 09 diamond white with low miles.
I don't get all the haters on this thread, this car is great, handles awsome, very little shake and lots of room inside.
Pontiac did a great job on this car for the price, and maintenance is a breeze.
I made some changes to it, put on a front bumper from a GXP and the rocker moldings, even though they are not made for a convertible, and the car now looks awsome.
It put a smile in my face everytime I see it or drive it.
Being a car dealer, I know life will not be perfect, exaust issues or rattles on the top will eventually happen, but if a car makes you happy, those issues will never be a problem.
Looking foward to the summer with the new ride......
So make sure to grind them down at least 1/4 inch before installing it.
I'm not sure if you need the bumper absorber, so I would recomend finding one with all the parts included, if you have to order all grilles and inserts it would get very expensive.
Now the side rocker moldings are a pain, they don't make them for the convertible, so I bought the ones for the coupe and found a way to adapt them.
Not perfect since the mounting tags don't match and sheet metal is completely different, so I'm not sure if I would recomend.
I hope you are enjoying yours as much as I am.
thanks.
I've posted several times before, and my main objective has always been to DISCUSS issues about G6's. Of course no car is perfect, and the G6 HTC is a complex piece of engineering that is more prone to issues.
My G6 has lived up to my expectations and I love it. Maybe I'm a bit luckier than some owners, because I've never had major problems. My G6 is a fully loaded 2007 with less than 16,000 miles.
I would have expected slightly better gas mileage, but I guess that 20 MPG isn't that bad (3.9 engine). I've used spray lubricant on most accessible roof parts and I have no rattles at all. I built my own windscreen and it definitely helps prevent drafts on cooler days. The only handling problem I've found is that the car wants to follow any grooves in the road and it takes a certain amount of excess steering force to pull out of the groove. In all honesty, I wish the air conditioner didn't come on every time I start the car (automatic climate control). I have two Malibu Maxx's and the A/C system is wired differently.
To anyone wanting to "dress up" the front end of the G6, you may want to consider purchasing the factory chrome lower grilles. I bought mine two years ago on Ebay when they were cheap and plentiful....no so anymore.
Happy motoring.
This is an update to my own posting regarding touching up the outer edge piping of the light taupe leather seats. The perfect color match attained by HomeDepot in a sample bottle (under $3) and applied with a small brush to the worn out area worked out perfectly. I also sealed the paint with an aerosol can of clear. It looks great and hasn't worn off at all.
I am posting this due to my frustration with GM and the dealer I have been working with for 6 years now.
I have a 2007 G6 convertible and from DAY ONE my car has been plagued with numerous issues. I have had to leave my car for weeks at a time to get everything worked out. I have had numerous issues with the top, I had a complete exhaust system re-installed, I had an air bag sensor replaced on my passenger side the list goes on and on..
I am currently having one issue that no one will help me with.. not even GM customer service or the dealer. My cruise control only works when it wants to. I have had the car at the dealer about 4 separate times to have this fixed but each time I am told there is nothing wrong with the car. The service tech has told me offline he does believe me but he needs to register a code on the computer or he can’t do anything.
The problem is my extended warranty expires in August and I know this issue will continue and not be fixed. I called GM directly and I was told I should drive the car immediately to the dealer when the issue arrives again. Not the most practical thing in the world to do.. especially when the cruise fails on the weekend 200 miles away from the dealer.
Can any of the GM mods help me out? I have a case number from GM (71-1055079779). I also had the dealer make a complete copy of my service history, which is quite large.
You can also search for my posts in these forums which detail my issues as well.
Please help me... I am at my wits end with these issues.
EDIT: Just to put this into some type of perspective I have summarized all of my car issues below. you will see that I have major issues with my car.

Don't you have anything you can do for me? It's nice to help other people but I think I need some help too.
Kevin
It's hard to target a market for a specific vehicle like the one you own. If you live near a Carmax, you can take it there - they purchase used vehicles, usually at decent prices.

We'd be happy to assist. Could I get a better understanding of where you're at? Are you having any current concerns with your vehicle? Have you been working with your dealership towards resolving it/them?
Looking forward to hearing more,

I have a cruise control problem that still exists today. As my last post outlined, I have taken the car into the shop 4 times and each time no one can identify the problem. The cruise control works when it wants and shuts down randomly every time I use it. This has been happening for years.
This is also the same issue that led to a recall of certain g6's but my model is not included.
I have been told by the person who has worked on my car that he believes me but theres not much he can do unless he gets it to fail on his end. I have spoken with the dealer numerous times with no help in sight. I believe this car has electrical issues which is preventing the cruise from working.
Why do I think this? When I took the car to be inspected by a NJ inspection station my car was failed due to electrical issues. I took it back to the dealer and they just put an inspection sticker on my car and said somethings cars just "fail." really?
My driver seat also has electric issues where the power seat will not work and the seat gets stuck in the position it is in. I have to keep turning the car off and on for it to re-engage or I have to let the car sit overnight and it works the next day.
Again, the dealer said he believes me but can't do anything until the issue happens with the car at the shop.
my PP warranty expires in a few months and I know when I take the car in to the shop again for the cruise issue the dealer will not look at the car even though the issue has been happening for years.
So thats where I am at.. suggestions?
Did you not see the message I posted on April 26th?
Have you tried giving your dealer the following information? My dealer could not fix the problem until I gave him this... then the top was corrected and I only have rattles when the weather is freezing. Once the car warms up there are no rattles.
The following info was taken from page 26 off this forum:

Here is your solution if you top rattles over bumpy roads
TSB#06-08-59-003B
Part#'s 25898407 and 15815546 they need to order 2 of each.
These are two new rubber sleeves that install on the two pins located on the rear top half. They mate with two reciever block that will need to be adjusted to the rearward most position.
Also if you hear a creak it may be coming from the two rubber seals in the doo jam rubbing. apply some Dielectric grease and it stops.
Service bulletin "Rattle/Creak Noise Retractable Hard Top (Convertible) (Adjust Roof) #06-08-59-003B - (07/30/2007). Models 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 Built Prior to June 1, 2007. The conditions identified in the document were
Rattle/ticking type noises over bumps in colder weather from mid-roof area; Rattle/ticking type noise over bumps from the front top of the windshield header area;
Creak/pop type noise over bumps from rear quarter panel area;
Seal itch type noise;
Snap/ticking type noise over bumps from rear quarter glass area;
Snap/knocking type noise over bumps from rear shelf/tonneau panel/flipper door area;
Creak/pop/thump type noise over bumps in rear wheel well area;
Creak/pop/thump type noises over bumps in rear trunk area.
When I checked your posts in our admin tool, which lists posts chronologically from top to bottom, for whatever reason your April 26 post came up at the bottom, so all I saw was your post from today, then a gap of a few years. Don't know what is wonky in our system, but sorry that I missed that you HAD, in fact, posted recently.

So if someone from Pontiac monitors this board, you really need to get ahold of me. It is an every 6 month issue including the research that I have paid for personally at GM/Pontiac's direction and I am still the one holding the bag sort of speak with a car that is now getting ready to need its 3rd set of tires, its at least fourth set of brakes, an oil pan leak and manifold that was leaking. On top of 5 years of frustration, hours upon hours of discussion with Specialists at Pontiac to go no where. Have over 40 pages of information about repairs done to this car from the time I purchased 5 years ago and the issues were documented the day that I pulled this 'new' car off the lot.
Is your dealership one of our GM dealerships , or is it independently operated? Let us know if we can look into anything further for you.

I purchased the 2007 Pontiac G6 Convertible as a pre-owned vehicle from CARMAX in Kennesaw, GA. I am taking the vehicle back there tomorrow for repair of the "rattling noise" coming from the roof/door. Their service department said, they would look at it and repair free of charge. I hope the information I found in this thread are sufficient for the dealership to locate the problem. Any additional info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I hope that everything goes well today at your service department! Unfortunately, I don't have any technical information to pass along to help in the repair process.
All the best and have a great weekend,
Sarah

A couple of other issues to note are that the resonator was causing a whine/ whittle sound whenever we accelerated plus the oil pan gasket is leaking. All this and the 2007 G6 only has ~27K miles.
Thank you for taking the time to post your concerns. Have you spoke with GM Customer Assistance? I would be happy to look into your concerns for you. Please feel free to email me directly; please include your complete contact information, VIN, current mileage, and dealer of choice. I look forward to hearing from you. I appreciate any updates on your concerns and situation.

I have been having some hesitating and jolting from the automatic transmission. Dealer found a bulletin for "TCM" which they "reprogrammed". We will see if it works. Car does seem more responsive already though.
We'd be happy to answer any warranty questions you may have and check for any open recalls if you wanted to send us the last 8 digits of your VIN via email at socialmedia@gm.com

Perhaps it could be a function of a roolback prevention feature if indeed the car has one. Or it could be the antislip kicking in somehow. My tires are original and the rubber is hard and nearing the end of its tread life.
To avoid the problem, I start using the manual shift (touchtronic equipped car). So it seems it could be a problem with the computer regulating the automatic transmission incorrectly by missreading a sensor.
I see in an earlier post that you have used kilometers as your unite of measure. If you're writing from Canada and wish to speak with Customer Assistance, you can contact GM of Canada at 800-263-3777 (Hours: M-F 7:30am - 11:30pm, Sat 7:30am - 6:00 EST).

The dealer had the nerve to tell me it's no big deal.. well that didnt fly and he had to give me a complete exhaust system. It's a known problem with the G6 convertibles...
I still cannot get my cruise control fixed and the car is out of warranty now. If I had to do it all over again I'm not sure if I would buy this car again.. too many headaches for the money I paid.
I tried getting my cruise fixed numerous times but here I am with no warranty and no cruise.
My rattling sound in my 2007 G6 GT Convertible seems to come from the roof top while stored in the trunk. I have had this car into the dealership (not GM) several times, and they followed the service bulletin to the "T", exchanged some rubber parts, greased it, but it still rattles. This does not appear to be a whistling sound from the exhaust. It's a rattling sound like something is "stacked" in the trunk and "shaking" going over every little bump on the road.
In addition, my car is now displaying the "service airbag" message on the radio. This message comes and goes, with no rhyme or reason, no matter if someone sits in the passenger seat or not. I called the GM headquarters and they were kind enough to make an appointment for me with the local GM dealership. They said, if it is determined that I did not cause this problem due to misuse or negligence, GM would cover the cost. However, I have to pay for the diagnostic out of pocket first. I saw online that other 2007 G6 Convertible owners are having this problem as well. And there was a recall on some VINs from 2007. (Mine not included!) The repair cost is anywhere from $800 to $1,000, as the entire seat cushion has to be replaced.
Well, needless to say, I am disappointed with my recent pre-owned vehicle purchase. Just like Kevgret, if I could do it over again, I would consider other makes and models. :lemon:
Why all the concern? If you love your car with all its top and door rattles, poor gas mileage, lousy transmission, ridiculous handling, then fine. But why do you have to criticize those who write about their issues?
Because you know the resale on these loads is sinking far faster than the value of your loans. You want to keep the spin on the internet good for your car so you wont get hurt so bad when you unload it as upside down as you already are.
Its too late for that. I took my pain a year ago and couldnt be happer. Drove off the dealers lot right by my Blue beauty G6 and never looked back. Although I dont get all the complements in the gas station or the ooosss and ahhas from people seeing the roof in action anymore, that kind of attention getting is for morons.
GM knew about all these problems with these vehicles and shipped them anyway. Too bad that I found out after I purchased mine.
Maybe someone can read ALL the viewpoints in this forum, decide for themselves and hopfully not make a major mistake!
This is a great forum BTW, I enjoy all the comment
