    Any chance I could more details. Where exactly is the air box cover? Any chance I could get a picture?

    I had the same problem on my 04 silverado. There would be hot air coming out about every other time i started the truck. Chevy has an updated part now, there is a parts problem. I took the actuator out then cleaned and lubed it. It has worked great for over a year.

    Hey,

    I have an 05 sierra denali. I got home from a trip and it was doing the same thing. Blowing hot on the drivers side and AC working on passenger side. I removed the AC fuse in the engine compartment and disconnected both battery terminals. I then waited 5 min and reconnected battery and installed fuse. I then put the key switch to the on position and turned the ac to the off position. I started the truck and set it to auto and within 15 sec i had AC on the driver side. Its worth a shot before going to the dealer.

    Hi, I'm new here and I have a..
    1994 GMC Sierra 4.3L V6 (Manual) that has a problem.
    Until recently I had a compressor that was completely locked up. I was driving home when the engine quieted down.. (Like a normal noise), I was startled, being used to a loud idle noise. (I have the impression that a quieter engine is a GOOD thing).. I carried on and went back out a couple hours later to start hearing a metal on metal noise..
    To the best of Our knowledge we believe it is the compressor's bearings are completely shot giving play where there shouldn't be, and making a terrible noise (not to mention how it sounds on my school's campus!)...

    Anyway, I am looking for any quick fixes to this, if we are on the right track.. etc.. and so on.

    Is there a seperate belt to drive the compressor? if so, cut it.

    Is this fix still working? Bought a 2004 K2500 crew cab about 3 months ago. Air will be working fine and then driver's side will blow hot air while passenger's side is still blowing cold. Turn switch off and then turn back on and everything is fine for a while. It started out only happening once in a month and now it is about week or so.

    I need directions for changing blower motor on 2000 Silverado. Where is it located, do I need to remove the glovebox to get at it? And can a "weekend mechanic" do the jpb?

    I would recommend purchasing a subscription at www.alldatadiy.com for your Silverado. Aside from the factory manual, alldata provides the diagrams and step by step instructions that's almost as good as the $200 factory manual. They provide it online, 24/7 for, if I remember correctly, $14.95 per year per vehicle.

    I looked up what you're asking for and without the manual to refer to, I wouldn't want to attempt the job.

    I HAVE BEEN READING THE BLOG AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY CLIMATE CONTROL, COOL AIR ON DRIVERS SIDE, HOT ON PASSENGER SIDE, HAS ANYONE GOT GM TO HELP OUT WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH DIST. SPECIALIST TO NO AVAIL. HELP!!!!!!!!! THEY WANT WELL OVER $500.00 TO FIX PROBLEM.

    I was told it was the accuator(sp) the 2004 GMC Sierra had a recall on the instrument cluster, I took my truck in and had that replaced, I don't recall my air getting hot on the drivers side since then. It probably wasn't related but thought I'd mention it. I've since sold my truck. :(

    There is a technical service bulletin to correct this problem. It is normally covered under warranty. Unfotunately, yours failed outside of the warranty period.

    Did you try what i suggested in post #159? It only takes 15 min or so. I had the same problem and its been working for 2 weeks now. As for the fuse to pull it is labeled HVAC and is located in the fuse box in the engine compartment. Good luck.

    I followed the instructions on this blog and it worked for me. Disconnect the battery and wait for awhile then reconnect. I had to do it a couple times and also realized that because I have a diesel I had to disconnect both batteries (duh!). Also, turn off your climate control before shutting off the vehicle and then disconnect the battery.

    It cleared up my issue, good luck on yours.

    Hello, I'm having the same issue w/ my ac not working and air only coming out of the defrost on my 03 chevy silverado. Did you fix your problem??

    Just turned the heat on in my truck for the first time this fall and only had heat coming out of the dash under hard acceleration. The rest of the time it blew cold regardles of the position setting. Also, when i tried to put it on recirculate, the light flashed a few times and turned off. The temperature gauge was also way up the hot end and didn't come down. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Check your coolant level in both the overflow box and the radiator.

    when you hold the cables together they are not connected to the battery. your just holding the cables together you dont have to try it but it worked for me. I got the idea from the tv show TRUCKS on spike tv. i have not had any problems since, did it about 6 monthes ago

    I HAVE A 06 GMC SERRIA MY A/C WILL BLOW COLD AIR THEN IT WILL START BLOWING HOT AIR.WHEN YOU TURN THE A/C OFF IT WILL STILL BLOW HOT AIR.YOU CAN RESET THE A/C SOMETIMES IF YOU TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART THE ENGINE. ANY HELP OUT THERE.

    Hi
    I have a 2006 serra and the Fan motor is noisey and squeaking the first 2 minutes its turned on. Its like a dry shaft in the motor assembly. It very annoying. My problem is I'm trying to remove the fan motor to fix. I have remove the black shroud that covers the fand and vents, but can't figure out how to get the fan motor out. Please help

    I have had the truck since new and it now has 68,000 miles.The noise began near three yearsuse and has been intermittent . I noticed a drop in cooling ability last year and I did add a can of r-134 this year. That made it blow much colder but the expansion valve noise did not change. It can be quite loud at times but is tollerable( stereo volume up).When the truck was under warranty the dealer dealer told me it could be replaced ( the valve) but it would end up doing it again. I'm wondering if this is common with the 99's and has anyone with this problem been solved ?

    I was driving along the other day with the A/C on and started to smell burning wiring (kinda of hate that smell being a commercial pilot) and a little smoke. Then the blower fan stopped working. i pulled over and looked under the dash and the four wire connector going into the fan box was smoking and melted...so were the wires for about an inch back from the plug.

    I am taking to the dealership that I bought it new at on Monday, but am asking you experts if their is any documentation of this being a problem? The dealership that I bought it at is one of those high volume stores and they have a reputation of being hard to work with on the service side.

    Any help would be great!

    I have never personally heard of anything like what you described happen. I frequent several GM boards none of which reports anything like above.

    If you find your dealership hard to work with on warranty issues, give GM customer service a call and they usually can refer you to another Chevy dealership in your area. With what you describe, I don't think that the dealship can question or deny warranty coverage as the results (burnt wiring) is obvious. Probably due to a ground condition somewhere along the wire.

    I am also currently having this issue i have a 2005 sierra 2500 with 20,000 miles the thing is only used during the winter and my heat /ac does not work brought back to the local dealership where i bought it from and was told a bad relay caused the wiring harnes to burn up and was quoted 300 to fix i think that is b.s. it is obviously a factory defect i called gm cosomer service and they offered to pay for half but will not cover the whole repair. the tech at the local dealership said he sees this all the time obviously they have a problem.

    As a follow up, I just got back from the dealership. I was 3,000 miles out of warranty and the cost to replace the resistor and wire harness was quoted at $340. When I asked for the number to the customer service rep because fried wiring is not normal wear the service writer had me speak to the service manager who stated that this is such a common problem that they have all the parts on hand to fix it and for "goodwill and to fix a known problem" they would fix it for free. One hour later I was down the road with it fixed.

    I have a 2003 Gmc Sierra 1500 with dual heat control. The air conditioning works fine but when you slide the controls up to heat the heat only works on the drivers side and the passenger side still blows cold air. This happens whether or not the AC switch is on or off. Thanks in advance.

    I was jumping another person's car and accidently got the cables on the wrong posts. When I started my p/u it only put out hot air. I talked to the Chevy dealer and he said they would have to re-program the a/c computer. I thought if it was like other computers I would just re-boot it. I unhooked the negative cable from the battery for a few seconds and reconnected. It fixed it.
    Only thing is, my a/c will not put out very cold air. It has a good charge of freon (had it checked) and I suspect the cold/hot air mixing valve.

    How do I check it for sure?

    my 2006 sierra has a dead blower motor at 50,000 and is out of warranty & the part is not available at the GMC distribution center.

    others have the same problem?

    I have 03 GMC 2500 HD with the digital climate control. My problem is that i can only get hot air when its set on 90 degrees, anything below 90 is cold air. Any suggetions would be appreciated.

    I had the same problem; replaced the burnt resistor and wiring harness ($170); called GM Customer Service and was told that I needed an official diagnosis from the dealer in order to have a Dist. Rep. call me to discuss the problem.
    Mine is a 2006 GMC Sierra with 50,000 miles/ no warranty.
    The wires/connectors that come out of the fan/ resistor box by fan look burnt if you look closely.
    My dealer also had the resistor/wiring harness in stock.
    I commend your dealer for the fair "goodwill" N/C repair.

    I have a 2007 (NBS) Silverado 1500 with digital climate control. I was into the under the hood fuse box searching for a switched circuit and didn't think to disconnect the battery until I had been poking around for awhile. Now, the heater blower works in all settings ( auto, manual, defrost, etc.), but no heat regardless of how high I set the temperature.

    Will appreciate any help, ideas, suggestions...

    Not sure what the original problem was but if you disconnected the battery you could have flipped the computer, which I had done.

    Turn off you climate control, then try disconnecting the battery again for 5 - 10 minutes. Then put it back on. Just disconnecting doesnt reset the computer it takes a while of no power.

    With a 1500, I imagine you only have 1 battery but if you have 2 make sure to disconnect both.

    When I left work at noon yesterday, I discovered that the remote start was also inoperable. I did as you suggested, turned off the HVAC and disconnected the battery for about 15 minutes. That restored the remote start but not the HVAC.

    The original problem was my own stupidity! I removed the under hood fuse box without first disconnecting the battery (I certainly know better). Since resetting the computer by disconnecting the battery didn't fix the problem, I suspect that I have fried something in the HVAC circuitry. Have any suggestions short of taking it to the dealer?

    the weather just turned bad, like 20 below 0 and now the heater motor runs all the time, whether the key is in the ignition or not. Had to pull the fuse for the heater so it won't run my battery down at nite. Any body have an idea what could cause this?

    although there are many posts similar to my problem i didnt see any that were exactly the same so i figured before i started ripping stuff apart i would see if anyone could help me. Ive got a 2006 GMC 2500HD standard work truck. it has the manual dual climate control and it stopped working the other day. i snow plow so it worked all night but after turning the truck on after gassing up i no longer got any forced air. i need to get this fixed fast because i NEED the defroster. all my fuses checked out fine (2 under the hood and 2 on the left side of the dash) and the lights on the ac and stuff work i just dont get a fan i guess, no matter the setting. ANY help with this would be greatly appreciated!!

    2006 gmc sierra 1500 slt climate control fan switch only works up to level 4 thought the problem was blower motor resistor, replaced it and the plug, still doesnt work on level 5, not sure what to do next? any ideas?

    My Sierra 5.3 defrostor vent seems to be too small to properly heat the entire windshield. The vent seems too small. Has anyone encountered this problem? The older styles have three vents compared to the one vent on the current models.

    air only comes out of defroster no matter where the knob is, also makes no difference if its on heat or a/c. sounds like the air is coming out of the back of the dash itself. Already tried resetting the computer and changing the fuses. I can not find an air leak in the vent hoses for the vents in the dash. Anyone have any other ideas of what or how to fix this?
