This is just food for thought, but several people on this board bought new 2007's that were NOT buybacks ( MSRP at $42,000) for $36,500 -$37,500. I would want a better deal than $35,000.
  • fastcavettefastcavette Member Posts: 9
The Ultra Luxury Packaged ES350 runs MSRP $44,615 to $45,111. Even then, I wouldn't touch a buyback unless it's $30,000 with no more than 5,000 miles.
  • ocautoseekerocautoseeker Member Posts: 425
Great deal! Looks like you got the car for roughly $500 over invoice.

The guy who claims you got a bad deal is wrong! $500 over on a high-line vehicle is a good deal, especially on a Lexus.

Regardless though, it's after the fact now, so just be happy and enjoy your new car.
  • huskies1huskies1 Member Posts: 5
Okay, So the best deal I've gotten on a new 2008 Ultra Lux w/ nav & Mark Levinson package is $41,700. Should I take it and run or can I do better? The salesman said that the Ultra Lux is hard to find. And black on black is even harder. What if I can negotiate $42K with a clear bra thrown in? I think that's worth about $1K.

The MSRP on the vehicle is $44.9K
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
What does Edmunds.com say the "True Market Value" is? When I bought my car I also ordered a Consumers Report for $14 that listed the dealers actual invoice price and msrp. Both of those tools (Edmunds and Consumers Report) were helpful plus the consumers input from this board.

    Good luck.
  • sodaguysodaguy Member Posts: 84
Edmunds TMV is worthless as far as a prices paid guide. If you are paying more than 1k below listed invoice, you are getting ripped, period.
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
I agree. I should have said the information it gives on the invoice price is valuable - no necessarily what others are paying.
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
I should have said to look at the Edmunds.com information for the invoice prices - not necessarily for the market value.
  • fastcavettefastcavette Member Posts: 9
For 2007 models, the best I've seen fellow forum members get is about $39,xxx for a 2007 ES350 Ultra Luxury Package.

For 2008 models, I think you should aim for another $1,200 off and try to get it for $40,500 + tax + license/registration. But you may have to wait another month for dealers to take substantial amounts off the 2008 models.

Paying about $1,000 over the best forum member prices it the way to go and still a smokin' deal, since I think best forum member prices reflect deals-of-the-century.

P.S. The thing about Ultra Luxury being rare - please... - tell the salesman that it's also rare to find a buyer for an Ultra Luxury Package as well!
  • huskies1huskies1 Member Posts: 5
Okay, I've got one down to $41K. What do you mean by substantial in another month? It's costing me about $500 a month to wait. (Long story) If i wait until December to get the car it would have to be more than another $1000 off so $40K or less. Also, on the $41K I'm trying to get him to throw extras like clear bra or interior protective coat. Which I don't think I'll get the clear bra, but I've got a 4 year old so the protective coat might be good enough.
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
What all options does the ultra luxury package have? The navigation and Levinson audio?
  • huskies1huskies1 Member Posts: 5
Yes it has the nav and levinson. MSRP on it I believe is 45,600. He said he would also throw in an interior coating on the leather to help protect it. Not sure what he value'd it at, but another dealership quoted me $500 for some type of interior coating. My husband thought it was bogus and that we could probably buy some leather spray that would do the same thing. I've never owned a car with leather interior, so I don't know.

    thanks for the insights!
  • zekeman1zekeman1 Member Posts: 422
Your previous post talked about a clear bra for $1K? That's a ripoff - save yourself some $ and go to a custom detailing shop and probably pay half that - the dealer is probably getting a contractor to come in and do it then marking it up just for you. Leather "protective" coating? You're right - go to a auto shop and buy the best product they have for dollars - $500 is bogus.

The biggest thing that comes with the Ultra Luxury Package is the panoramic sunroof. It also comes with nice 10-spoke wheels.
  • fastcavettefastcavette Member Posts: 9
What I meant by waiting another month for "substantial" discounts was to go from $41,700 to $40,500.

But it looks like you are almost there with the latest quote you got at $41,000. I would still try to go for another $500 off and tell the dealer that he's got a 100% buyer today if he goes another $500 off to $40,500. Given that the best price I have seen here on the forum is $39,xxx, I think somewhere $500-700 over the best forum price is a great deal for you.

As for the dealer, it's a good deal for him, since you are a serious buyer with the financial means to buy that car at $40,500 now and take it out of his inventory!
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
I don't know how much the price difference is on the 2008's but on my consumer report for the 2007 ES 350 it quotes the base invoice price of the car for $29,772. Navigation system w/Mark Levinson Audio invoice price is $3350. The Ultra Luxury Package (includes the HID/Adapt headlamps, rear sear side airbags, wood steering and shift knob, heated drivers seat, leather upholstery, memorized adjustments with 2 programable settings, rear electric sunroof) invoice price is $4378. So Far that is: 29,772 + 3350 + 4378 = $37,500 invoice price. What other options are included? I can look for the invoice price on this 2007 consumer report if you want me to. It might not be exact, but I don't think the prices have gone up that much from 2007 to 2008.
  • ocautoseekerocautoseeker Member Posts: 425
Just bought a 2008 ES350 UL (Black/Black) for $40,459.00. MSRP was, $44,812.00. That was exactly $1,070 over factory invoice.

Remember, Edmund's never includes local advertising fees in their invoice prices, so if the dealer's invoice is off by a few hundred bucks, that's typically the case.

As for TMV's, all they do to get that figure is balance the rock-bottom deals with those that payed full tilt and thus you get an "average" price paid. Don't be average! Hehe...

If you're in SoCal, send me a PM and I'll hook you up with the fleet department at this particular dealership.
  • ocautoseekerocautoseeker Member Posts: 425
    You're forgetting the destination charge.

The factory invoice on an '08 ES350 with an MSRP of $44,812.00 is $39,389.00 (in SoCal). That number includes the regional advertising fee of $422.00. It's part of the factory invoice and is a charge billed to the dealership.
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
Yes destination fee is appx. $765 but dealer holdback is appx. $669 so need to add another $100 to price. Also the intuitive park assist is another $400 but I think that is part of the Ultra pkg. The bluetooth is another $240 if not included in pkg deal.
  • jd_strongjd_strong Member Posts: 1
A previous poster mentioned his local dealer's sales rep told him the Ultra-Luxury package was hard to come by for the 2008 ES 350. I talked to a sales rep in the Carolina's area and was told the same thing.

So, in an attempt to obtain a little more info, I went to Lexus' web site and used their "Build Your Lexus" tool. This tool forces you to plug in a zip code before it will let you go further.

Sure enough...when I plugged in my zip code, the options for the UL packages were not there. I tried a few other zip codes for major cites in the South East with the same result. However, if I plugged in a zip code for some of the major cities in the North East (New York City, for example) the UL options were there.

Does anyone know what's the story on the UL packages? Are they offered only in certain regions of the country...or is it simply a case of they haven't done a complete rollout of the 08's as yet?

Just wanted to post my deal in the Houston area. This is pretty much the most basic model that comes to the Houston area dealers.

    MSRP 38457.
The lowest price I could get was 35,000 plus TTL at Clear Lake if purchased before the 1st of the month.

Westside wouldn't go any lower than 36k. Lexus North wouldn't deal with me over the internet. The two dealerships that showed the most interest over the internet were Sterling Mccall and Clear Lake (they are also both owned by the same people).

    Very happy with the car.
  • rou1rou1 Member Posts: 7
I had the same problem when I was looking for my 2007 ES350 in Houston. I ended up going to Sewell Lexus in Dallas for the best price. It saved me about 3K. I posted my details much earlier on this board. BTW, when I took my car for service at Sterling McCall w/ the Sewell Lexus license plate frame, my care specialist said, "I see you got your car from Sewell. You must have gotten a good deal." She said she sees many Houston folks who get their Lexus from Dallas for the price.
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
I also went to the Dallas area (Plano) and got a better deal than I could in the Houston area. I out right told one salesman (I think he was with Northside) what I was going to pay. He told me he could not sell it for that price. The base price I was given was $35,997 + TTL BUT i had already repeatedly told him I wanted the navigation, bluetooth, rear side bags etc...and he was not figuring that into the price. I guess that would have been the surprise when I came into the dealership! Anyway I felt he wasn't paying attention to what I wanted or was just trying to get me into the dealer ship and then SURPRISE me with all the extra add ons.
    This was for a 2007.
It is not time yet for my 5000 mile check, but I will be driving to Houston for those.

Just a update, one bay area dealer quoted me $33,404++ for premium and $37,339++ for premium plus.

I am going to get the car today, hoping to get a better price. Wish me luck!

December to Remember season is around the corner and wanted to pass on the price I paid for my new 2007 ES350 last year, so it can help people planning to buy 2008 ES350 next month.
I bought my car in it's first year of production and in the first week of the December. I assume, would have done a better deal if I had bought it in the last week of December or waited for 2008 ES350 or both.
The MSRP on the vehicle was $37,087 with premium package, rear seat side bags, heated and ventilated front seats, wood- and leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, blue tooth audio,6-Disc In-Dash CD Auto Changer,full-size spare tire with 17-in alloy wheel and accessory package. I paid $33,400 + TTL and the dealer gave me free window tint, touch up paint, clear floor mats and leather key fob cover. I think the cost of those freebies might have been $400. So, I paid approximately $4,000 less than the MSRP which is 11%. I think you guys can get a better deal than mine but all depends on the region. I live in Phoenix and purchased mine from Lexus of Chandler. The deal was over in 5 minutes as the other 4 dealers where quoting $1,500 - $2500 more. All people who work there are very good to deal with including the service/sales/finance/customer relation managers and I highly recommend this dealer to anyone planning to buy Lexus from the valley.

    Furnclub,
I am also in the market for a 08 ES. You mentioned in your earlier post that you are getting the quote from Stevens Creek. I test drove from them, but we did not "talk numbers." I believe the $37,339 (permium plus) is with Navi. I am very interested in how your purchase turns out, your overall experience with them. Who did you deal with and how much is the final price.
  • jdowdjdowd Member Posts: 1
I just got an offer from a dealer in St. Louis on an 08 ES 350 with Premium Package, rear side airbags, bluetooth, full-sized spare, heated and vent frnt seats, wood and leather steering wheel, preferred accessory package.
  • gopreagoprea Member Posts: 1
Reading some of the entries, above, I am amazed how high "our" Canadian prices for the 2008 ES350 are. For the one with NAV and Ultra-Luxury Package (top of the line, including second sunroof) the MSRP is approximately 55,000 CAD$ + approximately 2,800 Dealer's charge + 14% taxes = approximately 65,000 CAD$, which at today's exchange rate is approximately US$ 70,000 !!! You guys can get the same in States for approximately US42,000, which is .... 40% less !! Lucky you.
Since it makes a lot of sense to buy the ES350 from Sates (NAFTA group), I found out that the US Lexus Dealers have an interdiction to sell to Canadian customers (Dealers may lose their licence!?). Is there anybody that have any idea how I can still buy the car in States? (Probably somebody "local" have to buy it, and then re-sell it to me (more taxes added here)). Thanks.

    ocautoseeker,

Thanks for your kind words, my wife likes the car very much. I went to the dealer on a weekday night to test drive the car, the sales person first offered me $2k off MSRP, as I was walking out the door, the manager stop by and offered me $37450 ( he said it was his cost, adding the regional advertising fee of $422.00 to the invoice, it would be close).

After checking what others paid on this website, and felt it was a fair price, next day I went back and pick the color and purchased the vehicle, it had 7 miles, it was quick and painless.
  • fastcavettefastcavette Member Posts: 9
Are there differences in the invoice price listings among the various publications (e.g., Edmunds, KBB, and Consumer Reports)?

I noticed that there is none between Edmunds and KBB. So the question is whether there is any difference in invoice price listing between Edmunds/KBB on one hand and Consumer Reports on the other?

Dealers rotate their courtsey vehicles every 12 months.
Back in 2001 my dealer made me a great deal on an RX300, then 2 years ago on a 2006 RX330. Now I am buying an 07 ES350 with 7K for $9400 off msrp. It's a good way to get into a Lexus at a toyota price. Next time you see all those "loaners" setting near the service dept on the weekend, those are the ones I'm talking about. Good luck.

I am looking for the 2008 ES350 with premium plus package (the one with NAV). MSRP is $42,122 and I offered $38,000 and they said no! I have read some threads now and I think $38,000 is totally doable for them. I really like the car but was not ready to give in.

Anyone has experience with this dealer? The problem with me is that I really need to go to this one since it is in between my home and work. They offer free oil change and weekly car wash. Other dealers are really out of the way for me to take advantage of this deal! Help!
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
I tried to deal with other Houston area dealerships, but was not successful. (Aren't Clearlake and Mcall owned by the same person, and then Northside and West Lexus owned by another?) I think $38000 is do able, but maybe you will have better luck during the December to Remember promo if they do that again this year. You could buy at whoever gives you the best deal and have it serviced close to your home/work. For what it is worth I bought from Plano and got a much better deal than I could get in Houston.
  • dinhhdinhh Member Posts: 2
I am looking to deal on the Internet with my local dealers, the usual suspects in Northern VA area (Lindsay, Pohanka, Rockville, etc), only two of them quoted by email. ONe quoe is $33,900 +TTL for a premium package, other quote is $34, 400 +TTL for the same car. I am planning to negotiate more, what do you all think?
  • ninasninas Member Posts: 7
I paid $33,300 for a 2008 ES 350 with premium package (no HID or heated seats) but with bluetooth, premium, etc.. its about $1200 more with HID lights and heated seats.
  • sugarlsusugarlsu Member Posts: 3
I purchased today. The MSRP on my loaded up 2008 ES 350 was 42421 (this is the factory MSRP). The invoice price was 37732.

Invoice price on my 2008 (verified by 2 dealers)

    car 33720
    rear airbags 200
    full spare 164
    HID lights 652
    power rear sunshade 168
    nav 2230
    park assist 400
    prem plus 2058
    wood steering 264
    preferred acces package 117
    rear spoiler 199

    total 37732

They came down to $100 over invoice plus their fees of $399, so I paid $499 over invoice. (I originally made the deal at 500 over invoice, and when I saw the fees in the financing office I told them I was very upset and was not going to pay 900 over invoice, and they caved in). I was able to get them down to 5.9% for a 5 year loan putting 10,000 down. (they originally wanted me to take 6.4).

So, when you say you paid so much over invoice, remember you have to include all the dealer's fees so we are all working with the correct numbers here. I ended up getting about 10 percent off the MSRP (4190).

I believe the only way to get this deal is to go through the internet. I told them I was definitely going to buy, and if they could beat my other deal I would go through them. I drove the exact car I wanted, and checked for the transmission problem ( I had no problems with the tranny at all, and I checked closely). I also drove it in 40 degree weather and listened for the valve noise (the car did not make any valve clattering noise at any point, and I checked closely). I also checked for any rattles and wind noise from the driver side (again no problems). I was so impressed with the car that I purchased it. I compared it to the Infinity M and it compared very well. (the M has a more impressive interior around the console, but it costs thousands more). I owned a 2003 infinity G, and I think this car is nicer, more luxurious, but my G was not loaded like this one is.

At first they doubted me. They wanted to know how the other dealer let me go if I was willing to pay 500 over invoice, and when I said it was an internet deal, they agreed to the price right away. (keep in mind they were really agreeing to 500 plus the 399 doc fees they thought I was going to pay). But in the end I got it at 499 over invoice and I am happy with that. I realize some people have gotten even better deals than this, but I feel I paid a fair price.

I post this simply to let you know that it can be done, but it takes work on your part. I wish everyone the best, and I am crossing my fingers that the 08's have none of the 07 problems. If I have any problems I will post them right away. Best of luck to all.
  • cowbertcowbert Member Posts: 3
    Sugarlsu,
Thanks for the info. It really helps to know the "really" price, instead of the TMV, which is close to useless.
Please let us know if you have any problem with your new 08 ES. I was also getting ready to purchase a 08 ES, but changed my mind because of the tranny problem and the auto acceleration problem. I still like the ES much more than my 2nd choice, the Acura TL.
I have to buy a new car by the end of this month (long story). I'll try to hold out as long as I could to see if there is any problems reported for the 08 model. I still hope to find a reason the get the ES instead of the TL. :(
  • ocautoseekerocautoseeker Member Posts: 425
In Socal, our doc fee is capped at $55. I agree, $400 for someone to process paperwork is legalized theft!

The one fee that brought you to $500 over is the regional advertsing fee (TDA). It's a true cost to the dealer that is included on the invoice.

Nice deal! Now, go enjoy your new car and take comfort in the fact that you got a great deal at $500 over.
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
Cowbert-I agree with you that it is good to know the real price. You go to the dealership as an educated buyer. I bought the Consumers Report for the 2007 and it was worth every penny of the $14. I ordered it online and just printed it out so I didn't have to wait for it to be mailed.
  • prazpraz Member Posts: 163
I always wonder what the transmission issues are with ES350. It is my second car and first luxury car that I have ever purchased. I had rattle issue which is fixed now. But, can anyone please enlighten me on the issues regarding transmission and what I should look for to check if my car has issues? Thanks in advance.

Just bought 2008 ES 350 with a premium package +
    full size spare
    rear seat air bags
    HID
    Heated front seats
    Bluetooth
    6 CD audio

Paid 35,000+TTL. The dealer originally said it was with premium plus. After I pointed out that the car was actually missing a seat extender and rain sensing wipers from the premium plus package, he gave me 200.00 refund just acknowledging missing rain sensing wipers. He alleged that there was a seat extender. Later I again pointed no seat extender. Then he refused to give me any more refund but offered to give two free oil changes on top of the first complimentary oil change. Considering Lexus charges almost 150 per oil change, I think my out of pocket cost was:

345K + TTL. I think this was not a good but decent deal.

    I am in NJ.
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
Lexus charges $150 for an oil change???? Oh my, what have I gotten myself into? That is crazy.
  • johngreisjohngreis Member Posts: 70
Not to worry. Go to any Toyota dealer and get the oil change for about $32.00. Camry with V6 engine is the same as the engine in the E350 so they have the proper filter and oil.

Good luck with it. I think you'll really like the car.
  • zekeman1zekeman1 Member Posts: 422
Correct - lots cheaper at Toyota. However, my Lexus dealer charges ~$50 for the oil change...$150? Something smells.

Hello all. I'm a member of the Lexus family, as I've had my '07
RX350 for a little over a year. I took my car in today to be serviced and my loaner car was an '08 ES350.

After spending the better part of the day pretty much running all
over town on errands in the ES, I can report that I didn't experience a single problem or any type of "hiccups" in the tranny of the ES. In fact, I noticed that it doesn't seem to
have the annoying engine-braking drag that I do have on the RX.

So I think the '08 ES350's should be fine!!
  • lexusbunnylexusbunny Member Posts: 40
I am so amazed how people can pay so much less than what the dealer asks for! The 2008 ES350 I want with premium plus (MSRP $42122 Invoice $36,917 before advertising fee). I offered $38,000 plus the upgraded tint that they offer (worth about $250) and they won't give in! I guess the dealers in Houston are more greedy.
  • jano2jano2 Member Posts: 141
I could not get the Houston dealers to deal with me either. I bought from Plano.
