I agree with laurasdada about the Simonizing. Don't do it. It's not worth $400 for a wax job and they'll just do the usual anyway. As for the trunk tray they should throw that in for free. I've bought 3 Acuras in the past 4 years and I always got the trunk tray, wheel locks, and cargo net for free. Don't pay for those things.

Maybe I'm biased but i think the extra Hp and the upgraded looks are worth the extra cash, but i would say that b/c I bought the Type S!! The car looks distinctive and goes so well. Negatives are, poor traction in winter, poor mileage in town driving....

I think the Type S is well worth the extra cash. I had an 05 and traded to 07 Type S. It looks better, it feels better, it drives better. I had problems with the rear struts (see my posts), but they fixed it. I am totally in love with the red/white instrument panel (much nicer than the blue on my 05). I bought mine for $35,444.10 plus TT, I added the body side molding, trunk tray, and mud flaps. And other than the rear strut issue I had, I LOVE the car, the acceleration, the handling, the techno gadgets. And I agree, the $400 wax job is a waste of money.

I've my TL-S for over 2 months with no problems. Your price looks in the ballpark; I paid $500 more in Dec. Didn't order any options because the car has everything I wanted. However, I did pay for the wheel/tire hazard insurance because I had a couple of bad experiences with low profile tires/wheels on a BMW coupe a few years ago. I'm thinking about the mud flaps because the sides did get ugly with snow crud. Trunk nets came with the car. Only down side as noted by others is city mileage is in the high teens but highway is in the mid 20's. Good luck.

BUY IT!! cool car, had mine since Tgiving and its a hoot. usually driving a company car, so mine has 1700 miles on it. when i do drive it, its a treat. i paid almost a grand more than you, and its still worth it. maybe those acura lug nutz are what cost the extra dough. you guys plowing around in the snow is a hoot! i hate taking mine in the rain, and in SF bay we dont even get that much of it. 85 degrees here today, so free sunroof open time. PS on the music link cable, i stuck a reburner CD-RW in the dash, and it holds 150 mpg tunes so i dont need a cable.

I'll do you one better. Picked up my Type-S last night around 9pm...had it back this morning at 7am. The car has 35 miles on it and we noticed the noise immediately when we drove it off the lot. The car we test drove was fine and the salesperson mentioned there were strut problems with some Type-Ss. Our car was brought in from another dealship because we wanted a specific color. I'm not as mad about the strut, because I know it will be fixed, as I am with the idiot who drove the car from the other dealership but didn't report the noise. Anyway, they're supposed to overnight one in and get the car back to us tomorrow.

the good news is after they replace both back struts, I have not had any problems. The car is incredible, and I am sure Acura will issue a recall if this is a nagging problem when they find a permanent fix. But other than that, it is awesome to drive. You will enjoy it, especially at night when the instrument panel lights up in red and white, it is breathtaking really. Best cockpit of any of the cars I test drove. Enjoy it, you got yourself a great car (after the fix that is).

the only wierd thing at driving in the dark is when those NIGHT SUN headlights start reflecting off roadsigns putting the juice back your way. best lights i have ever had, and agree with all the instruments and ambient lights. good choice and i am still passin on strutz. cant stand anyone messing with my stuff. sure enough some highschool ROP fool would try the work and scratch the L out of it or do burnies around the store lot.

"...do burnies around the store lot."

Since it is FWD, you're probably safe on that count! :P

tgr3 (or anyone else looking on):

I have an 04 TL and am thinking of trading up to the new TL-S. How much different is the ride? I have had some intermittent interior clicks and noises on my 04 TL that the dealer has not been able to fix - minor annoyances but expected more from a $30K+ car. Any problems with build quality / interior rattling or noise on your TL-S? I was also very disappointed in the stock Bridgestone tires on my 04 TL - only lasted 20-21K miles - replaced them with Pirelli P Zero Nero which are so much better. What kind of tires come on the TL-S? You like them? Thanks for any input or info you can provide.
  • tgr3tgr3 Member Posts: 13
The '07 Type S is much MUCH more fun to drive. It rides stiffer and tighter, steering is also tighter, but it is a hoot to drive. I drive it sometimes just for the hell of it. The instrument panel is amazing, and the navigation/voice commands is much more advanced than the older models. It comes with Michelin tires, which I am guessing won't last more than 25K miles.

Rattles ?? Had some rattling in the subwoofer deck. But I guess this is a well documented problem and easily fixed by the dealer. I have had no other rattles - and I am anal about rattles in a car, they drive me crazy. The quality of fit is very impressive, the interior is extremely well put together. I really enjoy the car, and to me, it is well worth the money. For comparaison's sake, my friend bought IS350, and he has had a handfull of rattles and squeeks he had to deal with. And the voice commands are nothing compared with what I have. In all fairness, I think it is unrealistic to expect absolute perfection in a car, I do not care which one (in our price range).

You would love the Type S.
  • ledwingledwing Member Posts: 31
i too have really enjoyed this car, as i am sure anyone would too. i have a couple of small rattles, and those too drive me buggy since its the most expensive car i have owned.

two issues popped up today (at 1995 miles):1) the back up cam went into a static filled split screen pulling out of the garage, with a vertical line right in the middle. did it once, and only once.
    2) the nav lost its mind a bit, putting the car several hundred feet behind where it really is. this you would not think would be a factor, but it tells you to turn in qtr mile, 200 feet, now, etc. there is a screen to reposition the car on the map, easy to correct but it will then jump back to the incorrect postion (and it used to be right on the money $$$$).

guess that will give the dealer a little sumpthin to do at oil change time.
  • slzweibelslzweibel Member Posts: 33
Glad to hear it. I find my TL a hoot to drive - even after 3 years so I can imagine the TL-S will be even more fun. I am not looking for perfection in a car but the ability to locate and fix rattles is mandatory. I have had them take my driver's side door apart many times looking for a squeaking noise and they seem to fix it for a few days but it always returns. I hope the Michelin's are superior to the Bridgestones that came on the original TLs - they were pretty bad - especially in comparison to the Pirellis I have on now. Had you given the G35 a test drive prior to the TL? When I test drove the G35 and TL back to back in 2004 I felt the G35 had slightly better handling characteristics than the TL but that the TL was superior in almost every other aspect (comfort, ergonomics, etc..). Since I spend a long time commuting in my car, comfort is very important to me. I hear the new G35 is improved over the older one - am thinking of giving it another test drive prior to updating to the TL-S.
  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
The G35 has one of the sweetest engines I have ever driven. Right from the start, you can feel the car move you without any noise. A real polished engine here. Unfortunately, my head hits the top of the vehicle so it's not going to happen for me but the TL-Type S is no slouch so I'll take one.

Okay - I really like this car but hate the wheels. Does anyone else think they look like they're covered with brake dust?

Besides Acura, can anyone recommend a nice chrome wheel to replace the standard ones?

    Thanks in advance.

    Ken
  • pv2pv2 Member Posts: 37
The wheels are easy to get used to; I didn't think I cared for them but after a week it wasn't worth spending serious $$$ to replace them. Actually in the color I got, Carbon Bronze Pearl, the wheels are a decent match. Also, when they do get brake dust on them it's not that noticeable.

I felt the same way too about the type S wheels. I was dead set against them. From the first time I saw them I thought that if I end up buying the type S, I will be getting another set of wheels. Looked into a replacement set and I like to stick with OEM stuff. Acura offers another set in 17" but I don't like the way they look either. So the only other option for me was to get the 18" chrome look alloy by Acura. Their price from any Acura dealer lists @ $550 a wheel. I was able to negotiate the set from my dealer to $1700 for the set. This cost of course doesn't include tires. You still need to add their cost. A cheap set of Yokos ES100 (compared to Michelins) can be had for about $700. Add mount and balance another $100. Looking at total cost of about $2500. Eventhough the cost was a bit too steep, but I was seriously considering it. I bought my car a week ago. The dealer believe it or not talked me out of it. He said he felt the same way about the type S wheels when he first saw them but they grew on him. He said drive it around for a bit and see if you like them. If not come back and he will get me a set for the price agreed upon. I have had my car for a week now and everyone I know who saw it thus far really likes the look of the wheels. I hate to admit it but I think the wheels are growing on me as well.

  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
the replies regarding the wheels. I will try the wheels for a month or so. If it doesn't bother me than that's great. If so, I'll search around for just the wheels.

I hope people are telling Honda about this. I also think the parchment interior would've been a great choice for the S as well.

Looking forward to purchasing the TL - S :)

I have Nighthawk Black Pearl. And the wheels are a perfect match. when I first saw them, I thought they are ok at best. But everyone that sees the black car with the dark wheels think they are cool. They do not show brake dust at all, like they are always clean. Believe me, they will grow on you quickly, and they are distinctive, I have no problem with them, and they match my black car very well.
  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
I'm thinking of the White or Red for the exterior color. Red might be a better choice for these wheels.
  • glaukosglaukos Member Posts: 1
Yeah, I have to agree about the wheels... I was already negot. them away before I test drove the car. The "S" I tested was black with the gun-metal gray but the one I bought is the kinetic blue, which to me looked even worse with those rims on it. But now that I have had the car two days, its starting to grow on me too. My only complaint, and it is nothing really, is that the V-tech doesn't engage sooner cause 5k only leaves to 2k room to get that big horse moving... Its cool though, much better than the Evo 9SE (good car, terrible Mitsu service) I left at Acura!
  • ledwingledwing Member Posts: 31
you will like the wheels more and more, and will find out the "brake dust look" is not all look. quite a bit on mine, even both sides. your car is in all the ads, with the cool looking blue. talking about 5k Vtech will put you in with the rest of us at 20-22 mpgs. there are things more expensive than gas, and that car likes to scoot. take a look at your navi someday at high zoom, and let me know if its off a bit. ps, i saw on this site or another where someone is looking for a TLS rim. musta wiped out his brand new baby

How's the back seat room for family members?
  • pv2pv2 Member Posts: 37
Back seat room is spacious for 2 adults but marginal for 3 (useful only for short trips). I've had 2 adults in there with plenty of room. The fold down armrest with cupholders is a plus. Foot room is also good since they can tuck their toes under the front seats.

I have two children ages 10 and 12 so we should be fine.

    Thanks for the reply.

The rear seat room is one of the main reasons why I bought the TL type S instead of a 2007 G35 or 2007 IS350. Both of the other two vehicles are considerably smaller in my opinion.

maybe maybe not on the kidz. my 7 YO daughter always sits in the middle back there. she has to see the back up cam, then the map, then the list of her mp3 songs, then . . . . so yours can fight over the middle.

I guess all of us TL-S owners are in somewhat of agreement..you have to drive with the rims for a while to get use to them. Got my TL-S 6 speed last month in Morraccan Red, get tons of compliments on the color. As for the rims, they really hide the brake dust from the Prembo brake pads, if they were silver you would see it all the time because of the softness. I was def. sure I was going to change the rims..but the cost is not worth it. You get use to them and tons of have people complimented me on them. They are still not my favorite part of the car...but they are an eye catcher on the road..most people know you have a type S by them.
Immediately upon getting my TL-S it was pulling hard to the left. Dealer said it was a bad tire, I said it needed an alignment. Ended up taking it twice until they did the alignment. Much better, still pulls a lot when in the left lane of the highway. Service tech said this is normal with the tire type. Any one else experiencing this?
Got the all weather mats..they are sooo worth it. They will save the car and look really nice. Other than that its a blast to drive!
  • jme470jme470 Member Posts: 5
I slightly scractched my rim...can hardly see it on the edge but was at the dealer and asked how much to replace...the gun metal rims that come with it are only $280 a piece..not bad compared to what you will pay to replace them with a chrome rim!
  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
    Well,

I picked up mine S today. We struggled with the White and Red but decided to go to get the White. It was a coin toss.

I guess the wheels aren't too bad. I still think I will research getting Chrome wheels and see if there's anything worth getting.
  • expattlsexpattls Member Posts: 4
I have a new red Type-s with A-Spec package and upgraded factory chrome wheels. I saw a few of the Type S's with the 'standard' wheels and was not thrilled. With the pearl paint, I wanted the wheels to pop out at me, not look like a dusty set of alum rims. I found the dealer to be very willing to put a package together that I wanted. For the price of this car, you can upgrade and still have an affordable sports sedan.

I believe that if you are going to have a performance car, go for the look as well. But as the saying goes "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", or something like that. Whatever you get, enjoy the ride.
  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
I agree about the wheels. I don't think I will get accustomed to them. One of the nicest combination of colors is to have a white car with tire dressing with chrome wheels. These standard wheels will more likely look better on the silver and black.

I do have a question that I need to ask others and that is why does it feel so warm in the car? I don't have the heater on and it's not that warm out but it feels very warm.

    Strange.
  • ledwingledwing Member Posts: 31
might just be your blood pumpin while you mash the gas. remember to at least spin the fan, or tell it AC ON or whatever you want. mines a bit hot with no ac (75 degrees here now)
  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
I wish it was me mashing the pedal but since I just purchased it, don't I have to wait until after 1,000 miles are put on the car?

Right now I'm keeping it under 70 and not driving at a steady speed as to allow the piston rings to wear evenly. I will also change the oil at 500 miles and again at 1,000 before I proceed to the 3,000 mile oil changes.

I can tell this car wants to be driven. You can just feel it when just touching the pedal. I'm looking forward to the day I can just hit it.
  • ledwingledwing Member Posts: 31
well i agree on being carful breaking it in, but i have heard about different methods (baby it, drive it like youre going to drive it, etc). i ended up mashing it along the way, and only have 2100 miles now. not hammerin, but still letting it loose a bit. about the oil, i have been following the computer because i know there are multiple theories on this as well. the big one is the first oil is rinsing out all the loose debris, but i dont buy that. i will change it when the little puter pipes up and says so (70% right now) is what it says.
  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
    Ledwing,

Do you know what that little circle is on the front bumper? It almost looks like a rear parking sensor to alert you when you're getting too close to an object but it's on the front bumper. Does the TL come with a parking sensor for the front of the vehicle? If it isn't that, what is it?
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
I will also change the oil at 500 miles and again at 1,000 before I proceed to the 3,000 mile oil changes.

I have an 06 Acura MDX which I bought last May.
I brought it in early for it's first oil change and the dealership sent me packing.

They explained that Acura uses an oil with special additives that enhances proper engine break-in. This is loaded into their cars at the factory and it is not recommended to remove it early.

I explained that I was getting ready for a road trip to Chicago and I would rather change the oil at 2,500 miles than at 4,500 miles.
They asked me to go on my trip and then come back in at 4,500, which I did.

Acura does not recommend early first oil changes.
  • expattlsexpattls Member Posts: 4
njvike, the RL comes with a collision mitigation braking system sensor, but it is mounted behind the front grille. Nothing that I know of like that on the TL. Do you have any other dealer options added?
  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
Thanks for the reply. I will wait.
  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
I beleive there were no options on the TL Type S. I have everything in it including the Navigation system.

Not sure what that little cirle is on the bumper but it resembles a backup sensor that matches the same color as the bumper.
  • ggesqggesq Member Posts: 701
I have an 05 and that little circle is on my front bumper too. I have read other owners say that it is for tow recovery but I am not 100% sure.
  • njvikenjvike Member Posts: 56
I just called my dealer and they said Yes, it's there's a tow hook behind it.
  • spyderredspyderred Member Posts: 138
The little circle in the front bumper is to plug in an eye bolt that you will find in the trunk that is inside the spare wheel well. This eye bolt is so that a tow truck driver can use it to pull up the vehicle instead of pulling it from the suspension below.
My 2001 5 Series BMW had it.

    Spyder,

Thanks for the clarification. It's very much appreciated.

Still working on getting some chrome wheels.

    I really like this car.

Hope this works, here are the chrome wheels on a new 2007 Type S A-Spec.

Wow what a beautiful car. The 18" chrome wheels look awesome with it. Do you mind sharing how much did the wheels and tires (also which tires did you end up with) cost you? I think you mentioned in an earlier post that you got the A-Spec package. What does it all include? Just the ground effects kit and wheels and tires? or did you do anything else to the suspension?
Maybe I can contact your dealer to check their prices?

Sorry for too many questions? Just debating between keeping the stock set up or going with the optional Acura 18" setup.
