Nissan Versa Interior and Passenger Comfort Questions

I love my very new Versa (S model with power package, Magnetic Gray color), but ran into a problem on the way back from the dealor (I had to go about 150 miles from home to find the one I wanted).

It's a problem mentioned by another poster here.

When you swing the sun visor to the side, it covers only part of the top of the side window. A large gap is left for the sun to stream in, and that can be quite uncomfortable.

Any suggestions on how to deal with it (it can be brutal in the Southern California summer). I wonder if sun visor extenders are available, and if so, hopefully they are not hideously ugly.

    This issue is not exclusive to the Versa, but because of the high roofline and short sunvisors, it is about as bad as it can get in this model.

    If you can legally tint your side windows (in some places you can't) that is the first step, next is to install Vent Visors on all 4 windows, takes about 5 min and costs less than $50.00 bucks. This will help cut the sidewindow glare and also let in some fresh air without the rain and snow blowing down your neck.

    Now, you can also leave the side windows down an inch or so to help stop the Bake Oven effect of parking in the blazing sun.

    I notice your posting was way back in Aug. so I am su :shades: re you have come up with these solutions by now. But for the rest of the New V owners, it's something to think about.

    Hello everyone. I bought a new 2007 Nissan Versa in FL and you know the A/C is one of the most important features when living in FL ?? so... anyways after I drive the bugger for around 20 minutes with the A/C on the blower can be heard running but no air flow is coming out of the vents no matter whaere you select it to come out. There is a old stank of a frozen freezer coming out too ! If you turn it off and let it thaw then the air flow continues to operate normally. Took it to the dealers once , could not fix it. Took it in again and they did not fix it but said they would call Tek Line at Nissan, a month later no calls (( except for the salesperson trying to sell me one after I already bought it )) I took it back and now its been around 4 days no word. Anyone else seen this ?

    for your troubles then I would take them up on it. Is that what you meant by "except for the salesman trying to sell me one after I already bought it"?

    It's under Warranty so they have to make it right for you. With Florida's heat hopefully its sooner than later. :shades:

    A salesman from the same dealership must received a sales tip that I was interested in one so they contacted me again. It has been a week and a day since I took it in and I have not received any calls back yet. Maybe should of bought a HONDA !
    I am patient and I guess we will see, and your right the dealership has to make it right , its just WHEN. I am not going to hag them to death by calling and calling but one would expect a call back for status on a brand new car. Playing wait and see. Generally Nissan are pretty good cars I know its the first year so that expalins it , I am sure they will work onit and make it right; hopefully right ?

    Chris, I have had my versa since July and living in PHX, where its maditory to have AC, I never had a problem with the AC unit, in fact I was nice and cool the whole time this past summer, we run the AC 24 hrs a day durning May thru Sept. Take it back to another a dealer, and remember this, Do not be nasty to the service advisors, they can make getting your car fix a breeze or make it a pain in the a**...

    I'm going to come up with something to fill the gap between the visors. It's fairly wide and leaves a lot of room for being blinded by that late afternoon sun this time of year :surprise:

    Today was thefirst daysince I picked up my Versa that's been warm enough to test the AC, and pretty much no cooling was going on at all :cry: AC light would come on, but as far as I could tell, the compressor wasn't even running.
    So I stopped into the dealer and described what I was seeing. They were able to take it right in and found the issue. (I LOVE my Nissan dealership and have been dealing with them since 1979!)
    When the car was assembled and the low pressure line was attached to the compressor, the o-ring apparently got pinched or torn and the seal was compromised, resulting in the refrigerant leaking completely out. With no refrigerant, the compressor disables itself as a safety issue. (The refigerant also acts as the lube for the compressor system.)So my observation of the compressor not running was also correct! :shades:

    A little over an hour later, out I go with a car that WILL keep me cool as the weather heats up.

    I very interested in buying a Versa but recently healthycars.org measured the pollutants (volatile organic compounds, lead, and other metals) in 200 different new cars and rated the cars according to the risk to humans. Versa came out worst among all 200 cars in the rankings!

    This has tempered my enthusiasm for the Versa but I don't see another car on the market that so exactly meets my needs. Does anybody have experiences to share about perceived health issues such as breathing problems or headaches after buying a Versa?

    I love these lists. Worst on the list. I doubt that worst on the list is any more "harmful" to you than #100 on the list. Frankly, if I was THAT concerned about exposure to pollutants, I wouldn't go near a car.

    This is purely my own experience, but "new car smell" really wasn't all that pronounced in my Versa, or any other new car I've sat in lately.

    I have asthma that is triggered by a variety of things such as cigarette smoke, mold, normal household pollutants (like the stuff found in air ducts) and I had not problem in my Versa (and I bought it in December so the windows were up during the "new car" phase). There are people out there more sensitive than me (I am well assured) but if you sat down and read "Living Dangerously: Navigating the Risks of Everyday Life" you may see things in a new light. There are several books that deal with everyday pollutants, but if you knew what was in your couch, you probably wouldn't sit in it. If you knew what was on toddler PJs only a decade ago you'd be appalled...

    I guess it's that it's getting VERY old hearing how EVERYTHING is going to kill me :sick:

    I know some folks who are are pretty much afraid to do anything that has any risk at all...which means they pretty much do nothing but worry about whether they're about to do something risky.

    My Versa was purchased in early February and I've been in the same "closed window" mode until yesterday. Nobody that's been in the car has remarked about anything unusual. As you note, medical conditions are an entirely different matter.

    When we took our test drive, the wife remarked that she thought it was unusual that the black interior was only black up to the level of the windows. Above that level everything is that light beige. I thought it was "different" but it really works visually, creating a feeling of more room. There's plenty of actual headroom, but if the headliner was black to match the seats, the space might feel more closed in.

    I love that feeling... maybe I'm just odd, but I made my other vehicle like that on the inside and I loved it! It was like driving around in my own private cave... surely there must be more like that because otherwise people wouldn't tint their windows so dark... right??

    which dealer in FL did you get your versa?
    has the problem been fixed?

    by the way in FL there's car shops where you can take your car and they will take your manufacture warranty. If your Nissan agency is taking to answer you maybe you should take it some place else. I also leave in FL and I don't have AC in my current car. It sucks, that's one of the reasons I am getting a new car (versa sl) within a month. good luck!

    Anyone used scotch guard themselves on their Versa? I have the S sedan and the material is a little different but I want something to protect it.. any advice on brands or types? Or what to do or not to do? Thanks.

    I haven't tried this on a Versa but for many years I've used 3M Scotchgard spray on all my cars with cloth interiors and it's worked well--no staining, seems to help keep the fabric clean or easy to clean up.

    When you spray it, be sure to follow directions on the can and cover any other interior bits like the console.

    I purchased my Versa in August, 2006. It currently has 24,000 miles. There have been several problems through the months, but this one has me very puzzled. The finish is coming off of the top of the steering wheel. The dealer is telling me that the interior trim warranty is only for 12,000 miles. I have had cars that were 7-8 years old that did not have the finish coming off of the steering wheel. Is anyone else having this problem?

    But so far no sign of anything that looks like "finish" coming off any of the interior surfaces.

    Does it look like something peeling off? Maybe take a pic and add it to a post so we can see what you're seeing.

    I cannot get a good picture of it, but I will try to describe it to you. The steering wheel is shiny black all the way around with kind of a slight nobby finish on it. At the very top of the steering wheel, the shiney, nobby finish is coming off. The place is now about 3 inches long and about 1/4 of the diameter around. It appears to be worsening. I checked with the dealership, and they told me it is no longer under warranty since this car has more than 12,000 miles. They say the interior warranty is only for 12,000 miles. I will never buy another Nissan.

    All you other Versa owners better start watching the top of the steering wheel. Maybe you can catch it before 12,000 miles.

    That seems very odd that the "interior warranty" is only 12,000 miles. I am used to adjustments on a car, and wear items like brake pads, being warranted for only 12,000 miles or 1 year. But interior items? They should be covered for the duration of the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Did you read the warranty book with the car to see what it says?

    If that is really how the Nissan warranty works, I will have to rethink whether the Versa stays on my "consider" list.

    Do you rest your hand up there, causing it to rub off, or do you think it is due to sunlight UV rays coming through the windows?

    I have the beige interior (US) and my wheel isn't really "shiny". I wonder if they changed it with later manufactures. Mine was built 5/07

    Hello all. First time posting here.

    We have a new 2008 Versa SL-CVT. We are quite happy with it so far, it drives great, got the loaded version, stereo sounds great too. All is fine, other than maybe not being able to get the advertised mileage.

    However, one odd thing I have noticed is that the A/C will turn itself on pretty much every time we touch any of the A/C related controls. Like tonight, I moved the air flow control knob to select from the far left (air through the dashboard vents) to the far right (defrost/defog) with the vent in 1, and the A/C light turned itself on. Or I will turn off the car with the A/C light being off, and then re-start the engine and the A/C light turns itself on, etc.

    Any idea if this is supposed to work this way? Or if it is something that I need to have checked?

    That's the normal operation. When you have the selector set to Defrost, the AC light will be on indicating the compressor is running.

    Two things going on. One, having the compressor running is how it lubricates itself, so that's kind of important, and two, the windows will defog better with the AC than just air.

    Kind of drives my wife crazy too, but I've gotten used to it.

    My 2001 Altima also runs the AC compressor on the defrost setting as well.

    Just purchased my first Vehicle (Versa SL). Did not come with a moonroof, the dealer suggested top of line, more feature, top quality after market one. i was convinced since i was dealing with a nissan dealer. it turns out it was poorly installed with cheap headliner and flimsy moonroof. the dealer mentioned how they could not get there hands on a moonroof pre-installed. called nissan about it, the car is only a week old, tomorrow feb 5th a regional specialist is supposedly going to call me. i would like a new vehicle, i payed for a new vehicle. :( please anyone with suggestions?): :lemon:

    If this moonroof was installed by the dealership, then any kind of warranty deal must be with the dealership and/or whoever manufactured the moonroof. A poor installation unfortunately is a common issue with an aftermarket sunroof/moonroof. Since Nissan was not involved in the moonroof part of your Versa's transaction, the best you could have them do for you, if at all, is to apply pressure to the dealership. But do not be surprised if Nissan chose not to do anything, since, from the way I see it from here, Nissan is not legally liable for anything involving the aftermarket moonroof that your Versa has. You must work with the dealership to resolve the issue.

    The regional specialist never contacted me. i called nissan twice and was told they'd get right on it, but nothing. i am with in the week of my purchase with 400 hwy miles. does anyone know wether i can return the versa even though the moonroof was installed after market (the job was done by the dealer)?

    I'm between 100 and 100% certain that you have absolutely no chance to return that vehicle after it has been altered from the factory-delivered state, no chance at all. You must take on the dealer with all the resources you need to muster, to make him fix the deal. The best I think you can expect is for the dealer to pay for the necessary repairs.

    Hi- I own the Versa automatic trans since November 2006. I must say I am very happy with it and did get 36 miles / gallon on the highway when only driving highway. You do have to break the car in. My one complaint is that my windows fog up more than other cars. What can I do?? I even have frost on the inside when I park outside overnight and have to use a scraper inside the window which is hard because of the curves. I would also like to know what the overdrive button off s used for. I was told to use it when there are allot of small hills . I also heard to use it in snow driving ???? :)

    I also think the A/C is designed to work like this, but what puzzles me is that while the A/C is on when the defog setting is activated which sets the temperature at "high", the A/C is blowing "cold" air while the defog setting is blowing "hot" air, is there a conflict here? Does it hurt the A/C in this combination? Should we always set the temp. to "cold" with the A/C is on, like the way we do it in the summer time?

    Any thoughts?

    What the A/C is doing in the defog mode is to act as a dehumidifier. Also, the A/C system is "piped" separately from the heating system. That is why it is completely possible to run the A/C when the temp setting is set to "hot," and in doing so, there is no harm done. The A/C's compressor is kicking in to make the air dry while the heating system is pumping in heated air, both of which can help with the visibility and passenger comfort. It's a team effort, so to speak.

    Thanks for your reply. Does the A/C blow cold air or hot air when set in this mode, as a dehumidifier? If it is cold air, does it make the heater less effective in a way, but of course the main benefit is dehumidifing the air.

    The A/C, at least the manual A/C which is most common in North American cars (versus an automated climate control system), is always working to send in the chilled air. When it meats the heated air at the vent, the cold air is, in the strictest sense, canceling out some of the calories it took to heat up the air (or, in the reverse, the heater is canceling out some of the work the A/C compressor did). So yes, you could say that this action is not thermally efficient. However, the true benefit in this situation, just as you have pointed out, is that the HVAC system in your car is working in tandem to warm you up while removing humidity in the air to defog the wind screens. Seen from this angle, it is a very effective system. No, it is not the most efficient thermal exchange (not to mention the gas it takes to run the A/C compressor), but it may be better than not being able to see out your car! ;)

    2008 Model Versa SL Hatchback.
    -I want to NON-destructively remove the rear seats ( and be able to re-install them later ) from my Versa. Has anyone else done this ? I am not sure of the method, 'cant find the bolts readily accessible, and don't want to indiscriminately pull all the upholstery apart looking for them. If the interior space can be made to flatten out more from the "trunk" area forward up to the rear footwell point, it would help me alot with my use of the space, even if it requires storing the seats in my garage for the duration.

    No relpies indicate that this is not a subject of interest to anyone, but the removal of the rear seat and backs went successfully, Now the car is a two seat hatchback with a continuous flat cargo area accessible thru the rear hatch and the rear side doors.
    I removed all the seat belts under the seats, replaced the bolts thru the floor pan with nylon bolts, and put down 2 layers of thick car insulation, with a cut-outs for the center hump and other obstructions. Then after fitting a 1/2" fiberboard floor over the insulation mat, I covered the board with a close-match carpet fastened with stainless steel staples to the bottom after cutting and folding it around the corners and edges. Two large nylon bolts hold it to the front of the floor pan bulkhead behind the back seat footwell, so there is storage there too. If anyone else wants to do this, I can send you more detail, and digital photos .

    Actually , yes. I also have a 2007 Versa bought in Nov 2006 and the finish on my steering wheel is getting abraised in some spots. Never, had this happen on a car even after 10 years in the past. Also , the rear window rubber siding came loose twice.

    while the paragraph I wrote above on how to do the rear seat removal and decking off of the interior for a flat cargo space seemed clear to me, I see it might not be enough explanation ....     - pull seat cushion up, then remove seat cushion from the seat cushion hook
    - remove center seatbelt anchor bolt from under the seat
    - remove the seatback mounting bolts from the right rear seat back brackets
    - remove the seatback mounting bolts from the left rear seat back brackets
    - remove the seatback from the vehicle
    - remove the kicking plat rear inner
    - remove the bolt under the seatback side
    - pull seatback side up, and then remove the seatback side
    - remove the bolts, and then remove rear seatback center bracket
    - remove the bolt, and then remove rear seatback side bracket from the vehicle
    - remove the rear seatback finisher
    - remove the bolts, and then remove the rear seat striker
    - reverse procedure to install

    I am a new owner and fan of the Nissan Versa. I was wondering if anyone has heard of any problems with the automatic windows? Today I noticed that when I put my window back up, some skinny, spongy/foamy things were coming up with the window. They are sticky on one side, which leads me to believe they are suppose to be sticking down inside the door for possible protection of the window.     Hello All

    We just bought a new 2009 Versa. Strangely enough, the salesman told us that it came with just a single key and that we could get an extra key made. It did however come with two remote keyless entry remotes.

    Q1. I looked in the forums, but didn't see anything about a single key

    Q2. Do I have to go to the dealer (and pay $$) to get an extra key?

    Hi,
    I just bought a 09 Versa SL FE+. The car came with two Smart Keys.
    I am sure they all come with two remotes. If the dealer lost one they should pay for the replacement. Check the Nissan web page under power package.

    It did come with two remotes, but a single physical key. Also the power package info on nissanusa.com doesn't specifically mention two keys. I guess I'll try calling another dealership and ask about it.

    Can anyone else confirm?
