I was disappointed to see the cable system carried over into 2011. This for me is a deal breaker when we replace the Toy.
purchasing home by telling the current condition of the home!! http://equityinspection.com//
site helps you a lot in doing this work!!
More recently however the passenger side door refuses to open at all.
We've tried the lock lever in both positions and tried opening it from both the inside and the outside with no luck. In desperation we even re-enabled the power door function. With this we can hear the lock release and, what sounds like, the door trying to open, but it remains closed.
I haven’t approached the dealer on this yet because I’m afraid it will be an expensive fix.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks.
There are 2 latches that need to be released. 1 at the front and 1 at the rear. Which latch are you hearing release? When my door would not open, the rr latch was not being released and the door would try to cycle open but couldnt. I ended up opening the door by prying the cover open (where the window switch is) Once you get this open you can use a screw driver and manually push the cable that releases the rear door latch. Then you can take the 2 screws out on the edge of the door that hold this cover in place.
Look at this assembly and you will see 2 white plastic bushings. The top more visible 1 is for the child lock, The bottom 1, which is hidden, is for the door lock and is probably broken and when the door tries to open the lever is not being moved because of this. This assembly is around $600 plus installation. I repaired my own by machining a replacement aluminum bushing. Took a couple of hrs and saved me the $1,200 the dealer quoted to fix it. If you have an email I can send you a photo of the assembly unless you know how I can post attachments here.

Thanks,
Thanks in advance.
...the passenger sliding door started making a grinding sound when trying to open or close it with the remote or with the power button and then would not function.
After reading the posts here, I was concerned that the door would not be covered for repair.
I am happy to say that the door was covered for repair with absolutely no problems. They said it was the motor, and the motor is a covered part. Just thought I'd share my experience with a sliding door problem.
Thanks.
?? :confuse: ??
Sienna sales:
YTD 2010: 89,509
YTD 2009: 75,509
up 19.0%
Did you mean record high sales? I think 2010 will be a record year for the Sienna.
I called the 800 number before I went to the dealer because of my concern that the sliding door would not be covered under the extended warranty. The representative told me that the door would be covered UNLESS it was the hinge, which he said it sounded like it was not and the door would probably be covered. After taking the Sienna to the dealer, the warranty department did come out to look at the door, and covered the repair. I paid nothing. I think if I were you, I'd get a copy of my receipt and forward it to the warranty department to see if you can get re-imbursed. I don't know how long ago you tried to get your repair, but maybe things have changed.
We are not happy with our Toyota either and will not buy another one.
Supposeably they have fixed the problem. Obviously knowing that there was a issue in the first place. Our door stop working 2000 miles out of warranty and they would not fix it.
The powertrain warranty would not cover the door cable. A 2004 Kia's B2B warranty would have expired in 2008 or 2009, depending upon when you bought it.
You may want to consider an extended warranty, just make sure it covers your door.
Mar 04: Left siding door not opening (dealer fixed) (~ 20000 miles)
Sept 14, 05: Right sliding door not opening, left sliding door intermittently not opening (dealer fixed)
Sept 21, 05: Right sliding door not opening(dealer fixed - notice a week after previously brought in for SAME problem!)
July 06: Right and left sliding doors not opening (dealer fixed)
Feb 09: Right sliding door intermittent (dealer notes that latch needs replacing), left sliding door does not open at ALL
Mar 09: right and left sliding doors not opening (dealer replaced both left and right door control assemblies)
Dec 10: left and right sliding doors not opening, right power cable broke and right rear latch broken (dealer is going to fix but at an exorbitant cost of $1500!! I'm opting to do only the right side (for my family's safety) at a cost of ~ $850, which is outrageous given the fact that this has been an on-going problem since day-one with this vehicle! ~113000 miles)
We've given up fixing the left door since they want about $800 just to replace the front and rear latches on this door (w/o labor)!
I've also contacted Toyota Consumer affairs about this on-going problem and basically they will NOT do anything for us! Their 'explanation' was that it was fixed before under warranty so this latest occurrence is not covered (i.e. too bad, you're on your own!). Because of this response from Toyota this will be the LAST Toyota vehicle I purchase!
I've also submitted complaints to NHTSA:
( https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ ) and suggest that others who have this problem do the same.
The price however was $599 for just he part - I have 2005 Sienna XLE Limited.
Was that your year and model? If u got it for $103.09, that was a great steal !
It was covered completely. But I was at 65k miles. I have 10k miles left of coverage - I hope the other door doesn't go bad after.
