I have this Vibration /shutter. Its been doing it for 5 months now. I'm not sure how it started or really when but I think it may started from when I had to give it a lot of gas from not getting hit from someone?? I also had to have the throttle body replaced before then too. Its a 03 4.7v8 with 36 thousand miles on it. I have taken it to the dealer 3 times. Had the 30,000 tune up done also. I also get engine Vibration sitting still with in park and rebbing it to 1300rpm -1700rpm that's were it really like to vibrate in that area. I can feel it in the steering wheel and pedal when driving as well. So I don't know what it could be. The dealer just says it normal, the maint guy said it feels like a Jeep. I think it may be the Transmission ?? That acts up too, when I shift from R to D it will want to die some times??? some times when it shifts from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd I get a shutter. Will the Transmission make the car Vibrate /shutter when driving and sitting in park?? Any ideas? I don't know what I should try next. I hate to drive it on long trips because the Vibration /shutter is so annoying and maybe doing damage to something. Other than that the engine runs strong.
Please if anyone can help with any ideas.
Thanks
I have fixed four new Perilli 245/65 R17 ATR tires for my Hemi JGC 2005 but I noticed that they are too noisey at the inside while driving. I was told that because they are off-road hard tyres.
Can any one advise me what are a better performance and more quite/smooth on-road tyres for this Jeep. I'll be able to resell them over here with minor loss.

I have full-time 4WD, but the treads have lasted a while, and they will for you as long as you rotate them often. When I get new tires later this year I will be getting the exact same ones again. Good luck
Today wouldn't shift into park, RND were fine. I drove it home.
Now won't shift out of R. Can't get it into neutral to start it. Shifter will move down to N and D, but remains in R. Will not go into P.
Thanks for any ideas. :confuse:
Thanks....M.T.
I recently purchased a 2006 JGC 4x4 automatic about two weeks ago. The vehicle has 59K miles on it.
After 2-3 days, I noticed that the shifting was somewhat erratic - it is difficult to explain the symptoms, but I will try.
When accelerating, and the vehicle reaches about 35-40 MPH, and the RPM is around 1500, it seems to "stick" or shudder before accelerating more - as if the transmission is stuck. If I am going up a hill, it will sometimes shudder or surge a bit, as it gets through this area.
Also, around 60-65 MPH Ive noticed a similar surging.
Often, it seems Ill be driving along, and I will need to increase my speed very slightly, so I slightly depress the gas, and the vehicle seems to stick and start to lost power and surge - again, it "feels" like the transmission. It seems, especially around these problem points, to shift inefficiently at points where power is lost.
In general, the driving experience is awful, because it seems like I have to keep fighting the transmission - I have to accelerate more to get past these sticky spots, and then Im going a little too fast, so I have to coast and slow down, while the transmission has to jump around while doing so, and it never seems to shift where I would shift if I was driving a manual.
There are no engine lights, no warnings.
I did take it to a "transmission specialist" who test drove it with a scan tool, and he said he did feel a "slight slippage" (he thought) and did indicate he eventually saw a scan code indicating a slippage. He was going to start dissassembling the transmission, but at that point, I decided to take it back to the (Mazda) dealer, and have them try to diagnose it and work with the warranty company directly. (They told me to bring it back next week)
But after browsing through some of the forum, I have seen a few posts mentioning similar symptoms - specifically one that indicated nearly identical symptoms at 35-40 MPH and 60-65MPH that turned out to be a "Throttle Position Sensor"
My question is - if it -IS- the throttle position sensor, would occasional "slippage" scan codes show up, without an engine light warning?
The problems are just subtle enough that its difficult to get a service tech to really understand them, and I am afraid of having to go through months of trying to get someone to recognize the problem, and not just say "Jeeps just drive like that" which I know is not true (this is my 3rd)
The jeep is great, otherwise - like new.
I have an extended warranty (Easy Care/Total Care) that should cover things - assuming someone actually can diagnose it correctly.
Does anyone have any advice for getting this diagnosed and repaired competently?
How much does it cost to replace a TPS, if I was willing to just "try it"?
My JGC is having difficulty at precicely those two spots.
Code Uo404 = Invalid data received from control module gear shift. This means Trans Control Sys malfunction. From what I have googled so far that means that there is a problem with the computer that shifts the tranny. I have seen two solutions. Replace the shifter bezel in the jeep (makes the most sense - replace the computer) and replace a few filters in the tranny (seems like BS). I did find that both of these fixes are in TSB's (Technical service bulletin) 21-016-06a and 21-007-06. I would think it would be smart to do both actions. I am not sure if either of these are covered by the original warranty 36K / 3 Year or the 7/ 70 K drivetrain. 3/36 should cover it. I of course am at 50K. Does anyone know if the drivetrain warranty covers a shifter bezel or TCM? I am going to go into the dealer and see what they tell me. I have a feeling I will be going somewhere else to fix it since dealers usually try and get you. BTW, I had a high whining noise at about 60 mph when I had 30K on the truck and they replaced the whole drive shaft under warranty (this is under a different TSB I think). I believe this will be the last piece of junk jeep I ever buy. Cash for clunkers anyone?
My problem: 1994 Jeep with 155k miles had a new tranny installed less than 15k ago and now when I take off from park and if I get on it a bit it won't shift The engine revs up but the tranny just kinda hesitates and I have to let off the gas to get it to shift. Going up a steeper hill at 55 it will try to kick down but once again just kinda hesitates there will lose 8-9 mph by the time I get to the top. Talked to place that put in tranny and of course they want mega $ just to check it out because the warranty in up. But the guy said maybe the governor pressure sensor or solenoid even the crankshaft postion sensor? Any ideas? Thanks
I've 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4*4 - 51K miles. Last weekend I couldn't shift to anything - it stays N.
I took it to a service, he said the transmission needs to be changed and it has European made transmission. He told me that it'll cost around 4.000 USD!!
Any suggestions will much appreciated... I'm in NY - Queens and if you can suggest an honest service, it'll be much appreciated...
many thanks in advance...
where's the service that took care of your jeep? I'm in NY and need a honest one for my transmission problem...
many thanks...
Its in the shop right now - fortunately I have an extended warranty that I bought last month, that -should- cover it (or most of it)
If your jeep only has 51K miles on it, it should still be covered under the original manufacturers 70K warranty, if you have all of your regular service receipts to show youve maintained it on schedule.
My jeep was a former rental, so the 70K waranty didnt apply, and I needed to get the extended warranty.
many thanks...
I have done the research and read the posts, The Trans "slips" and will not shift into overdrive, sometimes will not shift when it is supposed too. I hope it is the TPS. Now I just need to know where it is and how do I change it? Please tell me if you have done this fix so I can get the old lady off my back and out of MY Tahoe!!!
So you were able to start it? My guess would be that the transmission fluid sensor is misbehaving.

It turns out that some major bolt to the master output shaft had been improperly tightened in the past (the transmission mechanic said he suspects that it was when the vehicle was first assembled(!)) and simply worked its way loose, got stripped and was alowing the master output shaft too much travel and shaking, and things got stripped.
The gears themselves were fine (no wear after 59K) but the master output shaft and collar (and torque converter) were all damaged from the tranny moving around too much. There were other contamination issues. The warranty company sent two inspectors out to see the damage.
In the end, I needed to have the entire transmission replaced, for $2750.
Since the failure started just 4-5 days after I bought the vehicle, AND I bought an EasyCare "Total Care" extended warranty, I would have thought it was covered.
EasyCare however, balked, and said "Too soon - must have been preexisting, we're not going to cover it" and the dealer said "the jeep was sold "as-is" with a 3rd party warranty - you need to work with the warranty company" - I am apaprently out of luck.
Obviously I have been complaining to both parties, and I think they may be actually reconsidering my claim, and -may- still cover part of it. I am still waiting to hear back from a manager at EasyCare, and the dealer claims they have heard that there is a "Maybe 60% chance they will cover some of it as a special circumstance" - but I am still waiting. I very much hope they cover all or most of it - or I will be detailing this experience onthis and several other forums, to make sure people know.
The good news is, after replacing the tranmission, the jeep runs GREAT.
Im sorry that I dont have a magic, cheap fix to reveal to you. I wish I had had one.
E.C.M mean Engine Control Module ! I removed bad E.C.M. and replaced it. SMOOTH and DRIVE! E.C.M. is control for Engine and Transmission.
Again both problems are intermittant and most days the tranny is fine. Just curious what's going on. I plan to drop the pan and do a gasket and filter swap in the event there is some sort of blockage in the filter or pan somehow affecting the shifting. But aside from expensive tranny work I'm at a loss as to what's happening. I really need this thing to last me a few more years if possible.
Any help would be great.
Cheers,

AS the tps tells the trans where the throttle is at dont use cable to tell what posion the foot feed is at
And in case anyone is following this question, I replaced the tranny fluid, gasket, and filter and I am still having the same issues. The fluid was at least 50KM old but had no burnt smell and was still clear. The magnets in the pan were intact and had only very small almost graphite-like particles attached to it (no obvious metal filings). The filter looked clear and a visual of the tranny guts seemed fine too.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Cheers
