I assume that they meant removed and replaced, removed and adjusted or something like that. I didn't read the exact words until I got home so I did not question the wording.
Not one more noise since then!
Plus they reprogrammed the van to fix the sliding door problems. And also found the Rad Cap was leaking, apparently this is a common problem on the new 08 GC and the Cap needed replacing with a different one. Anyone else experience this?
Also the sliding doors have been working 100% since the software upgrade.

Is this the only issue you've had with the minivan?
Most have been resolved, but since I had the software in the Vans computer upgraded I have had this temporary loss of audio on the radio. Now I live in Canada, and the radio I have is standard. No U connect, nav or anything like that. Just the touch screen with the DVD player and hard drive. These radios need upgrading in the software then? Why wouldnt the dealer/chrysler have a tech bullition for this to be done on all the vans as they come in for service?
Apparently so, as do most consumer products today that have any sort of computer chip in them: digital cameras, dvd players, etc. and, of course, computers and their operating systems.
Why wouldnt the dealer/chrysler have a tech bullition for this to be done on all the vans as they come in for service?
I have no idea. I'm new to the Chrysler experience, having dealt with VW exclusively in the past. Customer service with VW was great, from automatic notifications of any vehicle issues to getting loaner cars when the vehicle was in for any maintenance or service. So far so good with Chrysler, but I'm not expecting any loaner cars and am looking into purchasing Chrysler's Alternate Transportation plan.
bzhn why not just upgrade the MyGiG software yourself. Seems straight forward. and do you know if the software upgrade will resolve the problem for sure? The mofv.com/mygig site re posted the 8.4ver ((There is an issue with REN radios that have factory uconnect when upgrading beyond 8.400. Uconnect still works fine, but voice command button does not. )) So upgrading to the 9.112ver you need to be aware of this. Plus you can always go back to 8.4.
Be careful of which version your download. That 9.112 sounds like the one for MyGIG with nav. Your unit will say something like RER or REN on the front bottom right in tiny letters. Be sure and d/l the software update for the correct version. I can't access the unofficial MyGIG website here at work, so I'm just going by memory.
Also, on the DVD while moving, there apparently is ONE software version which works with some units that will let you watch a movie while in motion. If you update the software you'll lose that capability. I guess it's a trade-off if you'd rather deal with the occasional muted audio.
There are aftermarket products that you can purchase which will let you view a front seat movie while in motion but they're around $300. They will also let you use the touchpad keyboard while moving and a few other things.
Here is what is written on my invoice: "Lower control arm hitting front backing plate...removed both front brake calipers and brake rotors. Remove front brake backing plate and grind off 3/4 inch from backing plate so will clear from hitting on turns."
It has only been a few hours, but when I make the slow left turn into a parking space, all is quiet!
Hope this helps someone else and I'll let you all know if the noise returns.
My sliding doors also, have been working 100% since the upgrade to the software.
The tech and service manager were not able to duplicate the whistling noise, but the mgr. suggested it may be that the windshield needs resealed. He even went for a ride with me, but of course the van did not whistle! Anyone else have their windshield resealed?
I would expect Chrysler not to have an issue with this. Why are some vans having this problem? This is unacceptable for any new vehicle needing adjustments like this!
9.111 was the prior. ( these versions are Not for Navigation systems)
However my question is, does upgrading from 8.4ver. ->9.112ver fix the radio muting issue?? :confuse:
The myGiG Lock Pick is the $300 aftermarket product I am guessing your reffering to. That is crazy money to spend for such minimal advantages. I think i am going to stick with the 8.4 software and see where things progress.
Just got my first ETC warning light (and check engine light) today on my '08 GC/3.8. I have had the car for about a month and have just over 1k miles on it. When I shut it off and turned it back on, the ETC warning light was no longer lit but the check engine light stayed illuminated. My gas mileage through town has been pretty poor this last tankful - around 12 MPG (so far we've gotten around 16 MPG in town). I'm not sure if they are related. Also, we got a lot of rain today (again, not sure if this is related to the problem.) I'll keep you posted on what I find out from the dealer (who unfortunately is only opened for service Monday thru Friday during hours I'm at work).
Hopefully this is nothing major - we love the van so far, but this raises reliability questions.
But for me there is a big issue with the suspension or sock absorvers. The problem is than I can not tume the tyre preasure to have a confortable ride. 2.5 psi (36 bar) recommended do generate a continuous oscilation in waved or not very flat roads. The oscilation can be felt from one side to anothe when the sock is in one side/tyre or from front to back in general. If I adjust the tyre presure higher the effect is lower but then every single thing on the road is felt like a kick. I adjusted to lower preasure the oscilation issues has higher effect.
I do not remmember having this with the previous T&C or other car.
Has anybody experienced this sensation? is really anoying. If so, or if you have any solution I would really appreciate any advice. I would like to hear is only my car issue and that has a solution. I do not thrust so much on my dealer service for this.
Thanks in advance. Regards from Spain.
I would recommend that you take your Van in to check the balance on all 4 tires, and get an alignment done. Since you have a brand new Van the dealership service department should be preforming these types of services free of charge. And doing a fully functional road test. If you do not trust that particular dealership it would be very wise to ensure you find a warrantee approved shop to preform any type of service. Even another Chrysler shop. If you do not do this you may void all warranties.
I had my van serviced about a week ago and they were unable to duplicate the whistle. The service manager even took a ride with me but of course it didn't whistle, even though it does it almost every time I drive! He said the windshield may need resealed. Stated that they had done that for one or two others experiencing the same issue, but said their's whistled constantly. Mine is from 40 mph+ but is not all the time. I'm thinking of having them reseal the windshield just to see if it takes care of it. We moved and then removed the roof rails, but that was not the cause for us as it has been for some. So that would be worth a try for you.
...I remember in the first year run of the current Honda Ody body style...'05's I think or '06's...they had a rash of poorly sealed windshields. Could be the culprit here as well in this first year of the model run.
Oh hey, let me ask, any takers on the $2.99 gas deal !?? I'm curious if it's worth the sign-up hassle, vs standard rebates, etc. Will the 4.0 run on 87 octane ??
Thanks !!
I am very interested to find out what the mechanics in these other states find out. I am in Kansas.
I was looking at my dodge yesterday and I was just curious if the plastic piece that is under the windshield wipers and under the hood that has rubber thing that goes on the windshield could be allowing air to get up underneth that and makes the whistle? I looked at mine and it doesn't seem to be very tight. Just a thought.
I just went and checked out the plastic piece you referred to -- it is quite flimsy on my van too...makes me also wonder if that could be it.
Hopefully, everyone will stay in touch thru this great forum and we'll find our answer. Sure wish the service managers and technicians would read these posts -- maybe it would be helpful.
Guys, that's a deer whistle. JC Whitney auto parts sells them as an aftermarket item that you attach to the inside of your grill. As you drive along the wind rushes through the device and causes it to whistle. The pitch has been laboratory tested to the exact tone that will make a deer run the other way instead of in front of your minivan.
Other people pay extra for these things but they are now included in selected Chrysler and Dodge minivans for free.
And if you believed that I have some swampland in Florida...
Seriously, I hope there's a common cause for all the whistling and that someone finds and publishes the fix for it soon.
BTW, anyone with one of the whistling minivans ever have a deer run out in front of you?
Thats ok when the vehicle is fairly new, but wouldn't let it get that low on fuel as you keep it. Your fuel pump is in the gas tank and over time the tank will build up crap in it. You don't want that stuff settling in your fuel pump. It's expensive to change.
We are all having this problem as it's a factory defect on this first year model. I have to drive the thing several hundred miles on I-95 every week and the whistling makes me completrely insane. I first noticed it about an houir after I took delicvery and have had it in for service 4 times already and the problem has yet to be fixed....I am bringing it back to service on Tuesday and if they don't fix the problem, I'm filing a complaint with the State of Florida Lamon Law for the purchase price of the vehicle to be returened...Dodge is well aware of this problem and they are ignoring it....I have read two car reviews on this vehicle, one from Forbes, and they both mention the whistle. I will let you know where I get with the 5th service and the Florida Lemon Law. Incidentally, the whistle becomes much worse as the tempature rises and the windshield becomes heated so the complaints will continue to roll in as it gets warmer in all the northern states.
