Nissan Murano Locked Gas Cap
I was hoping that I will not be one of the victims of this lockied gas cap. Yes, it happened when I tried to fill-up. The cap doesnt open. I tried both the mechanical and remote on and off switch for the door but was unsuccesful so I decided to go straight home and try to worry about it the next day.
This morning, I played with my remote key again and finally the cap opens. Just out of curiousity, I left the cap open to see how the mechanism works if I played with the remote key. I found out that it doesn't engage all the time but the best way to do it is to keep pressing the 'open' position untill the lock on the cap disengage.
I did it several times and it worked. I just hope that it will work all the time using this method.
I also sprayed a rust check oil on the mechanism as suggested from a previous post.

It takes a lot of patient. I'm glad that the gas station wasn't busy when it happened.
To play it safe, I will spray the pin with this lubricant once in a while. I will report back here if I encounter another problem.

::confuse:The solution, I folded the area where the pin engage to lock and the problem's solved. Now I can open and close the lid anytime I want!
There should be a recall on this!

I wonder if the tranny does go out after the 120,000 will this be consider having it on record ?? or any one have any other thoughts on how to approached the issue?
To Nissan = this type of issues frustrates many people and some will not be coming back. Take care of your current clients and you'll get more business. Just look what happened to the big 3 when they underestimated the power of consumers.
for instance, I had a Infiniti FX35, and I now have a Maxima SV; with both vehicles, I have had a lousy experience when I've called or written a letter to Infiniti or Nissan Consumer Affairs they both have either never returned my calls/letters or when they contacted me they sent me to a regional rep who knew nothing about my problems, since she never has seen my car, and knew nothing about their own vehicles and then try to tell me that I should just live with it and that the car back to the dealership and that they are the ones I should really be talking too, though when I go to the dealership, they tell me to speak to corporate and the regional rep! so you can see the kind of run around I get, its very frustrating and poor customer service
now, contrast that with my Acura and Lexus, if I call or write a letter to either of them, I can't get corporate off my back! they are always up my butt calling to see if my problem was resolved and if not what I can do to get it resolve and if there is anything they can do on their end, etc; they've even called up my dealership and gotten them in line to try and help me again after my dealership has snubbed me a little bit and tried to brush off the problem!
Nissan and Infiniti really needs to improve their customer service; this regional rep thing Nissan uses when you have a problem really is a waste; the regional rep either doesn't know anything about the vehicle and tells you to go ask the dealership, who then tells you to speak to the regional rep :mad: or the regional rep won't even come out to your house or dealership to listen to the problem; for example I had a question about the Bose Audio System setup and why no sound comes out of the speakers in my rear window and she couldn't answer it for me; also, I have had a rattle in my driver side door from day 1 of getting my Max when ever I go over bumps in the road and since its right by where I sit when I drive I hear it all the time; I've brought it to the dealership and they give me the lying run around that they don't hear anything! my regional rep wouldn't even come out to hear it and told me that rattles/noises/creaks/etc are normal in a 38-40k dollar car, such as the Max, because its a sports sedan, which is complete BS with the CVT, and you can expect to hear sounds like that :mad: I told her right on the phone, when you get vehicles like the Maxima and Murano that when you add packages to them they cost just as much or a little less then a Infiniti, Acura, and Lexus and that you shouldn't tell a customer oh its a normal problem on a car that expensive and you should live with it" she didn't know what to say!!!
just poor poor customer service! you know, I was with GM for 30 years and this is the kind of lousy stuff they pulled and you know what that got them! Nissan better get its act together; its just like all you poor people who have 1st Gen Murano's with the 1st Gen CVT; since you have the first model Nissan used this new transmission in, there were bound to be problems till they got to the 2nd Gen CVT, which I have in my Max now and they provided no support to people having their trans blow at 60-70k miles until enough people complained and sued together that now they extended the powertrain to 10 years/120k miles I think!
Sorry for the little rant I went on but I had to get that off my chest; except for the lousy customer service I've been really happy with my new Max and all the cool features and comforts it has!!
One thing I would also add, and it was not my case, the actuator has a fuse in the fuse box, by the driver's left knee. I would suggest people trying the spare fuse before trying anything else, those things do go bad now and then.
