I need a cruise control on my Yaris Hatchback. It was not available as a Hatchback option but was as a sedan options (??). The dealer here claims it is not available as a daler installed option either.

I found an after market unit by Brandon Distributing (BD) that uses the cars ECM computer's built in cruise control programming (according to BD). But it has it own control head and requires breaking into the car's harness to splice onto the wiring. I do not care for that approach. BD claims dealers all over the US are installing them with good results but I am afraid Toyota might back away from their warrantee if something happens.

In reviewing the cars Service Manual it appears that everything is there (with one exception) for cruise control. The throttle is "fly by wire" meaning it is completely controlled by the computer with no mechanical link between the foot throttle controller and the engines actual throttle.....its all done electrically with a motor controlled by the ECM computer. What is missing is the control stalk with the switches for Set and Resume and Off, etc.. It seems to me that all that is necessary to get factory cruise control is to remove the steering wheel and install the factory stalk and plug it into the existing connector that is used for other functions in the steering wheel area as well. Did I miss something?

Has anyone done this themselves or had it done through a dealer?

    I posted this in another discussion but now that I see how this board works, I thought it might be seen here a little better.

    Does anyone know what size speakers the Yaris Liftback takes (front and rear)? I want to order a good set now so I can install them when I get the car in a few days.

    Yakima and Thule don't make one yet as the car is to new. I really need a rack asap to carry my bike and kayak around. Does anyone have a solution as where to get a roof rack? Thanks so much, adios, Atom...

    You might talk to McGeorge Toyota. They are the best for parts, etc. They might have a solution for you. You can find them on the WEB.

    I am considering replacing the radio. But before I do, I'd like to know what the stock radio is in the Yaris Liftback. Is it difficult to replace a "double din" radio? Also, what's the answer to the other question re speaker size? Thank you.

    It is pretty easy to replace the stock radio but you need an install kit to fill the extra space in the dash around the new unit. As far as I know, none are available specifically for the Yaris yet. It will likely add a small shelf under the head unit. There are generic kits available, but I'd wait for the vehicle specific kit for the nicest looking install. You also want a wiring harness kit - again none available yet.

    I've been told by someone on another forum that he just replaced the spaekers in his Yaris Liftback with 6 1/2" MB Quart component speakers - front and back. I went ahead and ordered some for mine based upon his experience and the fact that Circuit City says 6 1/2" is the right size.

    I expect to pick up my car later today or tomorrow so I can confirm the size shortly.

    I have a Yaris on order, and I have the power package and they researched it to add either the VIP security and or the keyless entry to my car and they said it cannot be done from the dealer, they said it can be added to Corolla, but the Yaris they didn't know why but they said I would have to go through an aftermarket company, and it wont be the Toyota system. I find this very hard to believe, but this is what they said... If I dint its false information, I will most likely cancel my deposit with them. Cause I will not buy a car that is not equipped properly the way I am asking it to be.

    i got an alarm in mine. The dealer installed it for me. They never told me it wasnt a toyota alarm. Now im worried that it isnt. I never got any special reciept for it, btu i know that the dealer installed it special for a customer who ended up not purchasing it. They told me it was $995. Does this seem like a reasonable price for a alarm?

    The alarm for the Yaris is listed on the official US site. http://www.toyota.com/yaris/accessories.html I know of one dealer who is selling the part only for about $325... List is $417. I doubt that a dealer would install anything but a Toyota alarm but a nearly $600 intall charge seems a little steep. It can be added to any Yaris with power door locks but without factory keyless entry.

    You can get an decent aftermarket alarm installed starting at about $200. Add remote start for about a total installed price of about $400.

    They played it off that that was how much they charged. I dont have power locks on the car to begin with so i coudlnt even get remote keyless entry. I ended up paying alittle less than 400 for it. So i guess i didnt really get any deal. No biggie i would have bought an alarm anyway and i guess it saves me the trip and wait for it to be installed.

    So much for the advice I got on the other forum.

    The front speakers in the LIFTBACK are 6 1/2". The rear speakers are 5 1/4".

    Looks like I'll be paying return shipping on one pair of 6 1/2" speakers. Oh well.

    I've checked with the dealer, and these are not available for my Yaris sedan. Does anyone know of an after-marker supplier that might have something that will work?

    Is it possible to have keyless entry installed without power locks? Is there anyway to install power locks if it doesnt come with it? Im almost certain the answer is no but i figure id ask.

    From the posts I have seen, I don't think the bra is available yet. Personally, I would be careful with the bra as they can rub and make your car look much worse than w/o the bra.

    Hi owners. Just got home with my white Liftback-auto tranny with upgraded stereo & mp3 Player etc. But NO tweeters! Anyone know best way to add em?
    Also, I do NOT like the center armrest option from Toyota that takes away teh center cupholder. On Scions, there is after market version WITH built in storage in the new armrest. Anyone have a source for the Yaris?

    If you want tweeters and want somebody else to do, just go to Best Buy or Circuit City or your nearest "good" install location.

    Not sure about the armrest but my Scion tC had a center armrest with storage but my Yaris S ALSO has same except tC had another top compartment.

    I do like the drinkholders near the vent as is easier to reach/see though it takes away the heat/ac vent.

    If by "upgraded stereo" you mean the stereo that comes with the power package or convenience package, the speakers are not really very good. Adding tweeters would not produce much better sound, especially without a crossover network.

    My own preference is for the MB Quart component/coaxial speakers that can be set up with the tweeter in an independent location or in the center of the mid/bass speaker.

    In the Yaris liftback you can put a 6 1/2" speaker in the front door and put the tweeter in the rectangular piece of plastic above the window switches. Use 5 1/4 inch speakers in the rear configured as a coaxial.

    If you are comfortable doing the work yourself, you can get pretty good deals on last year's MB Quart RCE-216 and RCE-213.

    I am working on upgrading my sound system in my 2007 yaris, and while I know that the front speakers are 6.5" I am not sure about the rear ones, they look like 6x9 but I can't verify this without removing the back covers. Has anybody else upgraded the rear speakers in the S coupe?

    Does anyone know if the armrest on the Liftback can be "uninstalled". I ordered a Liftback automatic without an armrest and I was told by the dealer that it was installed at the port and can't be uninstalled. I don't want to lose out on the cupholder. Does anyone know if the dealer can "uninstall" the armrest? Those that have the armrest, do you think its worth keeping it?

    Those that don't have an armrest, do you like the Liftback without it or do you think its worth installing.

    Iam adjusting to NO armrest. It just slips into the cupholder. YOUR dealer is nuts! I forsee problem with setting the parking brake and NEED that cupholder so I may live without it myself? STOOPID of Toyota to destroy all the storage potential setting up the Emergency brake like they did. Sad........ :sick:

    Thanks. that is what I thought since I don't want a problem with the emergency brake and also I don't want to lose the cupholder. I tried the yaris specialist online and they were no help and two different reps. give me conflicting information. I am calling the dealer manager in the morning (he didn't know much when I first spoke to him.) I just don't want the armrest and its annoying at this point. The salesperson says I have to take it if it comes with it. I say bull. I will let you know how I make out.

    My automatic Liftback came without an armrest..and I wanted one! I bought one on E-BAY (Factory from Toyota) and installed it myself. If just fits into the cupholder, with a little wire for support that runs down to the seat rails. One screw holds it in place. It also lifts up, so you can get to the parking brake and has another cup holder built onto the back end, so you don't loose the cup holder space! I think you should give the armrest a shot..it is comfy. BTW I only paid $50 on E-Bay, plus $13 for shipping.

    thanks for your comments. Much appreciated. It is good to know that you don't lose the cupholder. I am a coffee drinker and travel a lot for work (I am also right handed so the left handed cup holder by the a/c heating vent on the driver side is awkward to me)

    Do you find that with the armrest that you have easy access to the cupholder for coffee and other beverages? Just wondering.

    I can't believe you found one at less then half the price on ebay and the arm rest is a $129.00 accessory....amazes me!

    thanks again for your help..that means a lot to me. I have stressed about the armrest because I was afraid it would be a loss of the cupholder and loss of decent access to the emergeny brake....I will let you know what happens. Also, I am glad to hear that you love your Liftback..that is music to my ears!!

    My liftback came with an armrest installed. I didn’t really want one but was just happy to find a liftback otherwise equipped how I wanted it. I had a similar armrest in my 1985 Mazda RX-7 and it eventually broke off and I’m afraid this one will one day too. I find that I really like having it though.

    Like rodnreel says, it is just attached with a screw and a couple little wire supports. It would be easy to remove.

    I don’t know how useful the cupholder would be there anyway. The way it is now, the piggybacked cupholder is really only useful for back seat occupants. The left-handed cupholder is not that convenient for us ‘normal’ people (right-handed) but it works OK.

    They really do mark-up those port installed accessories. You can order most through your dealer for much less and install them yourself.

    rocketman: I am right handed too and a morning coffee drinker. I sometimes reach around to the back cup holder and put my drink in there. It is a little awkward, but once you know where it is, you can feel for it...or use your right hand and go across the steering wheel. :sick: Neither is a great option. It is my one complaint about my Liftback. Oh, and it was not any better without the armrest...it was still awkward to reach.

    Drop a line when you get your Lift. Mine will hit 3000 miles tomorrow. I bought it on 5/19. My last tank I got 37.1 mpg, about 25% city and 75% HWY. Who needs a cup holder? :D

    Thanks for the insights and for the report. I was going to get my vehicle the same weekend you did (except it was a demo and I had a bad feeling about it....sorta looked used too much....turns out someone bought it after I test drove..silly me thought they would have more then one in...but I am glad that I ordered the Liftback. I am still waiting to find out if it did or didn't come with an armrest (the sales person says no, the internet manager says yes...you would think its an easy question to answer????/grrrr!!! Congrats on the 3000 miles and great mileage..I will let you know. I am supposed to hear within the week about approximate arrival time.....I hope sooner then later...I feel like a kid waiting to open up his Christmas present and very anxious for it to arrive!

    Oh, and I forgot to mention I've been driving 75-80 mph on the HWY with the AC on. I could get better MPG if I were to slow down. :shades:

    There's one thing the Yaris lacks, especially the Liftback model (which is the version I'm VERY much interested in :D ):
    a power sunroof. I wonder why Toyota doesn't offer a sunroof option with the Yaris. Excuse my ignorance, but is it possible to have a power sunroof installed, either through dealer or aftermarket, WITHOUT voiding the warranty? Can someone please inform? I sure would appreciate it.

    I am sure you can get a sunroof installed. Just google to find someone in your area. The Yaris is an economy car and made to have a low price. Toyota did not put many accessories on this car in order to keep the price down.

    Most dealers will have someone they use to put in sunroofs that won't void the car's warranty. In fact, if you are financing you can usually get them to include it in the financing, and to have the sunroof put in before you take delivery.

    I have seen this on Ebay and was wondering about it. It appears to be an aftermarket item rather than the Toyota Factory Model (TFM). Does it fit into the cup holder or does it have to be installed with screws, etc? How much trouble would it be to take it in and out once it is installed? Does this come with the two cup holders for back seat riders like the TFM?

    Seems to have 3 screws and "covers" that rear cupholder. Since it offers FAR more storage of the type I need, losing the cupholder didn't matter. It's also wider and more supportive. It will ship to me tomorrow and I imagine will take a week from Canada to California?
    Has NO cupholder options you refer to that I know of?

    my toyota dealer said (when i test drove to scion xB,) that a power sunroof could be installed for around 1000$, depending which kind you like, the sliding " indide" the roof or the one that kinda lift at an angle
    (french is my 1st language so not sure how you guys call it!! LOL :confuse:
    personally, it is not worth that much...as long as i have A/C (i am in kansas) it is all good! and i am in the group that couldn't care less about cruise control. my husband wouldn't buy a car without it though!!! ;)

    I have a hatchback and sent an email to both LeBra and Covercraft. Nothing from LeBra but Covercraft says they are working on the pattern now. Maybe next month? So many bugs until then!

    I finally got time to install my speakers yesterday. The MB Quarts sound great with the factory head unit. (MB Quart RCE-216s in front, RCE-213s in the rear.)

    The factory speakers are different than I've seen before. The mounting bracket is actually the speaker cage. The rear speakers are a little larger than 5 1/4" - more like 5 1/2" or 5 3/4".

    To install the woofers, I just cut the speaker cone and the rear basket off the factory speaker and used it as a mounting bracket. The front was easy. I just used longer screws to attach the woofer to the factory bracket. For the rear I used construction adhesive and glued the MB Quart mounting bracket upside down on the factory bracket and screwed the new speakers to it.

    The rear speakers I set up as coaxials and installed the front as components (photos below).

    It looks and sounds great.

    I also added Dynamat XTREME sound damping in the doors and hatch lid and some closed cell foam as well. This not only makes the speakers sound better, it cuts down road noise a lot and eliminates the cheap *ting* sound when you close a door.
