If anything, you gotta look at the big picture. SUVs often get 12-16mpg, including compacts, so anything in the 20s is a blessing.

I usually fill-up when I need around 13.5 gallons which translates into over 300 miles. Sure wish I had a 20 gal tank and get 15 mpg so I could have a better range vehicle. Just joking, it is all about what makes you feel good. Hope everyone enjoys there CR-V as much as I do.

atthebeach1,
Is yours a 2002?
I thought I was the only one who puts alot miles on my ride!

Does anyone know of another brand of bike rack that will actually fit this model year? Our local bike shops (and I live in Davis, CA, so there are more bike shops than car dealers!) don't seem to know of one. I'm a 98-lb. weakling (well, ok, a 122-lb. weakling) and can't deal with putting two bikes on and off the roof all the time.
Thanks.
Good luck.

Honda has thousands and thousands of CR-V's sitting in California waiting for delivery BUT, there is a part they are replacing on ALL of them. It supposedly takes 15 minutes to make this switch but, they are not letting ANY of them go until they are fixed.
Valves or brakes? I wonder. Happy to get it fixed now than to worry about it later!
This after the ports were a mess a while ago, supply has been short lately.

Anyway it could be a computer mod to prevent the valve problem?
Thanks
Is that what you were thinking of?
To date, I am aware of three owners who have documented similar valve issues at relatively low mileage. Certainly, these people and others may have a real problem. I've counted several more who have symptoms that sound similar, but have not been linked specifically to valves. I haven't bothered with the posts from people who are just flabbergasted by the subject.
I'm hoping that folks here will take advantage of the request mentioned a few posts back and list their specific problem and experience (not speculations). Then we can compare it with the information that poster appears to have from his sources. I know that the CR-V Engineer responsible for designing fixes surfs/lurks this and other CR-V threads.
Thank you, I am waiting patiently...sort of.
What do we say about trusting dealers?
To answer your question about our engineer friend, he is only an engineer. Not superman. He is responsible for designing fixes for problems. That does not mean he can completely understand the problem and fix it in 10 seconds flat. He works with service records, not rumors. If anything, reading these boards (with many people reporting variations on problems), may only confuse the true issue. That's why I hope people will stop speculating and stick to the facts.
Furthermore, he and Honda are not solely responsible for the time it takes to implement changes. Using the O2 sensor problem as an example... Changes to emissions software have to be approved by the US gov't before they can be put into use. Hello red tape. Would you be happy if they provided new valve adjustments which only made the problem worse? They need time to test it. Then there is simply the business of retooling the factories which make the parts and logistical factors.
Bottom line: It's complicated.
BTW, isn't your's an '03 model? The valve issue is for the 97-01 engines. (See how screwy these rumors can get?)
My local Honda dealer isn't open on Saturdays! I just don't get the logic in that. Personally, I think they should maintain showroom hours of 9-5 and stay opened on the weekends. I think that would work better than 9-9.
Extended warranties can be worth it when you consider that you also get roadside assistance, a free loaner for service, and red carpet treatment from the dealer.
No matter how reliable the brand, one major repair and it's paid for. My Escort's A/C was $700 to fix (condensor). Our 626's wheel bearing was more than $800.

I hadn't heard that they changed this for 2003, but I have heard about a "fix" that lets you turn the A/C off when in defrost mode. Some people think this also returns you to your previously selected A/C mode, but I haven't tried it to see.
Well, that's how I rationalized it :-)
My 02 LX was confusing the h--- out of me with that auto A/C always On in Defrost mode -- it just wouldn't go away when I changed settings! Now I understand what's going on.
The pre-set on CR-V for Heat/Defrost will always begin with A/C ON when you switch to one of the Heat settings, but the fix will allow you to cut off A/C whenever you want to. Cutting the fan on or off and back on will not cause A/C to cut back on once you have cut it OFF, even if you remain in one of the Heat/Defrost settings. A/C will only cut back on if you switch settings (like Vent) and go back to a Heat/Defrost setting.
Now I just quickly cut off the A/C when I start up the car and whenever I switch from Vent to Heat in cold weather.
Don't know what the change is on 03s.

tidester, host
Robmarch, Sorry for the stupid questions.
As it is now, the CR-V has no real rear bumper and I might buy one if there was a way I could remedy that.
