I'm buying an automatic because it gets better gas mileage than the manual. I do know how to drive a stick, but I don't drive it to optimize my fuel economy.
Reviews are merely an individual's subjective report. Read them by all means, but only as a means of picking up comments on things to look for that are important to you personally. The only way to decide is to drive it yourself and be as objective as possible. But you already know that.
My review of the old Ferrari Testarossa would make depressing reading, (I drove one for 6 laps of a race circuit). I climbed in prepared for the experience of a lifetime and climbed out bitterly disappointed and cured of Ferraris for life. Other folks drove the same car and came away close to orgasmic. That's life. A Lotus Elise on the other hand..................OMG !
ETA : Just read the review in question. Sounds like a Friday Afternoon Car that hadn't been PDI'd properly by the dealer. Hopefully that isn't going to be typical. The most damning comment was that he wished he'd bought a Dodge Caliber instead. We get those in Europe and the only positive attribute they seem to have is that they're relatively cheap for their size. Just about everything else is dire, it seems. Fiesta is, (over here), in a completely different league. Hopefully yours will be.
I'm sure it was just a bit of hyperbole resulting from his disappointment
I read them when I'm interested in a car but only to find common complaints. Then when I test drive I look at these closely to see if I can live with them. Otherwise, I don't put much stock in them.
If it isn't a better time to highlight it, the entire Gulf Coast is in the process of being FUBARed yet no one around here seems to give a rat's [non-permissible content removed].
An no, 40 MPG in this day and age is no breakthrough and won't make a damn's worth if a dent in the problem we have.
Pretty sad and pathetic folks.
See ya!
Yes I ride a bus...etc....but instead of driving everyday to work, I bike once in a while, I take the bus most of the time....
Does that mean that you need to waste or not find other ways of using energy? WTF is wrong with you?
We have available technologies NOW to produce safe, clean energy in our own country....would you prefer we keep sending money and people overseas and have endless wars and destroy countries? Sound like a better plan to you?
Take a fews days off and all hell breaks loose. The Fiesta is for baby boomers on a fixed income,or a kids first car on a low budget.
We in America are not going to get the real German feel of a Fiesta made in Germany. This car is not the end all or be all you can be.It's a Mini wannabe, but lets hope the quality is better.
Yup, I'd want an armrest,4 wheel ABS and multi level heated seatsand an eternal temp display(Bluetooth) standard on the cars the wife and I have now)
May, I dare mention the Polo has all these features, the Mazda 2 might turn you on also.Remember this country dosen't get the numerous models,Ford and GM sell in Eurpoe.WE are La Vien Rose. :shades:
Ford has a swap your car deal going. I guess you can try out the car before you buy.
I tried a car for a week(rented) and I was surprised at no dead pedal, felt carpet hid by real carpet mats. . The fit and finish was good, but the auto tranny just had park, reverse ,drive and low,the gas milage was good, it had RSA 17" Goodyear Eagles on it and they are noisy and don't wear well.Plus the engine noise was noticeble, all they had to do was offer an insulation pkg. I didn't like the cigarette lighter and ash tray either. I realise the car was built this way with lighter material for better gas milage. I didn't get it though.
Well good luck.
Well good luck.
The capet is felt and the summer mats are velcrowed down and it cost $75.00 for rubber ones that fit over a post. Also, the seats were heated only, they were not multi leveled so as heat went up your back. Same as new Fiesta.

Thank you all for your concern.
Proof
And Edmunds told one person it'd be cleaned up with Sunday maintenance. It remains. This is ridiculous. If I was Ford I'd be angry.

As I had predicted, the criticism of the back seat has begun, just like the Contour. Really, if a buyer plans to use the back seat a lot, I'd think they'd at least be looking at a Focus or Civic not Fiesta or Fit.
However, the Fit does have more cargo space, but lacks options I want. I want Blue Tooth hands free, Mulitilvel heated seat like VW Golf, Subaru Impezda has that heats your back as well as butt.(Synch also)
Do you think the Fiesta would be a Home depot car? Compared to the Fit (except for cargo space) and the others Yaris, Versa,I think the Fiesta wins hands down. :shades:
But, it's a LONG way from even a Mini, which I'd rate as better than average.(steering is overly dampened, front-wheel drive, and horrendously large turning radius considering its tiny wheelbase)
A Yaris, OTOH, actually feels worse than a Kia Rio. You'd be better off getting a used *anything* for 12K than a Yaris.
Something like a Fiesta very well might hit that sweet spot, but only if you get a manual. As noted in that review, Ford still can't seem to make a decent automatic.
The one I drove was an automatic and it was loaded to the teeth. Road noise wasn't too bad (then again I'm used to a cobalt). Steering was excellent. Engine power was a little lacking at times, but for the most part it was there when I needed it.
The interior is what really sold it to me. The front seats were roomy and the dash/instrumentation were awesome. The salesman was sitting in the back seat and unfortunately for him he was a pretty hefty fellow (probably slowed the car significantly) and he looked incredibly tight back there. The car itself though was way bigger and much better-looking than I expected.
Salesmen said they'll be getting a large shipment the 3rd week of July but most of those would be pre-orders.
The Fiesta is cheaper & better, but an used '07 Focus SES is even better (hydraulic Euro steering, multilink Euro ride, & Euro-size high chairs front & back!), & way way cheaper today :P
I would go find an used '07 Focus SES sedan in mint condition especially if you need auto, or the the sporty '07 ST sedan stick w/ "muscle-size" 4-cyl.
I really couldn't stand the current Fiesta's rearward visibility corners being blocked by the rear headrests, even in seden body style.
I like old sedans' wide rearward visibility, especially the '91-96 Escort/Tracer sedan & 96-'00 Civic sedan.
The Fiesta I drove was an automatic SEL model and it had leather trimmed seats w/ push button ignition. Personally, I liked the fiesta better. I liked the zippier handling and the cockpit was sportier. All of the tech and features make the fiesta feel like a truly "modern car" and since I myself am a 21 year old tech savvy college student the fiesta appeals to me more for that reason.
The civic was by no means any less of a car however, it just doesn't suit me as well as the fiesta, since I don't plan on using it as a family sedan. Plus after driving a used '05 Stratus for 3 years, I would like my first new car to stand out from the crowd.
I hope that this answered your questions Iamz. I would still like to take a look at the Mazda2 before I make a final decision though.
We had initially been given some kind of Toyota hatch that is not sold here and I went back to Hertz the second day to get something different as the Toyota wanted to go off the road to the right anytime there was any crown to the road (the seats were too small also, as I usually find with Toyotas). The Fiesta tracked straight on all the roads, I am assuming this was at least partly due to compensation for the road slope built into the electric PS.
It was a 1.4L diesel that got about 60 mpg!
It was a nice little car, but not sure I'd buy one when it seems maybe a Fusion can be purchased for about the same price for now.
No way you can buy a decently equipped Fusion for under $16K new.
