I have not been able to find the GM card rebate for an '09 G8 GT on the GM web site. Can anyone help out?
Would you send a link to the site, or just let me know what the current allowance is? I received a top-off note in the mail this week that allows up to $2K.
Thanks.
feedback please!!!!!
They aren't getting any more cars either so prices seem to be creeping up. The sales volume in May was healthy, so dealers may be gambling that demand will eventually exceed supply. The only thing that would depress G8 prices is if GM announced that the G8 will be rebadged as a Chevy or Buick in the future. So far GM claims the G8 is gone from the USA forever.

The Pontiac brand will cease to exist after next year, but one of the brand’s brightest stars could live on in one of General Motors’s remaining brands. GM CEO Fritz Henderson has stated that no Pontiac model will live on in the ‘new’ General Motors, but one GM exec has hinted there might be a future for the G8 sedan.
Tom Stephens, General Motors’ vice chairman of global product development, said the G8’s fate may not be completed sealed. “I know there’s still discussions on it,” he said. Stephens wasn’t overly optimistic the G8 would find a home in the Chevrolet lineup as the next-generation Impala SS – saying “Chevrolet already has several sedans” – but didn’t rule out a version of the G8 for the Buick lineup. Sales of the G8 have actually picked up in recent months – despite a lack of advertising and the winding down of the Pontiac brand – so there is definitely potential for the platform.
I think that if the only thing that moves G8's is a low price then you better get one while you can because they're not coming back in any form. GM wants cars that sell at a big profit, that's why they kept Buick vs Pontiac. How do the 2 owners of GM feel? The UAW is no fan of the G8 because it's made in Australia not here, and the Government is no fan for that reason plus the MPG is not that great.
$27K out the door. MSRP 34,655.
1500 Rebate
500 Dealer Cash
2500 loyalty
2000 GM card
If you are going to keep it for many years, then buying new is a good idea.
Though, real world prices are not lined up with its MSRP, or even the sale price.
I bet the white looks very nice!
I love it when someone says, Great Price, then comes back and says the car isn't worth that much on the open market. It's worth that much to me, so that's what I paid and bought the EXACT car I wanted.
BVDJ84, do you drive a Camry?
I'm currently looking at the G8 GT myself and have been offered a pretty good deal, at least by normal standards. It seems there are two schools of thought, those who believe it's a bad idea to by a dying breed and those who feel this is the last chance for something great. I'm leaning more toward the latter. Whether or not this car holds significant value into the future, I'm looking at higher CAFE standards and the auto industry in general as leading to more "sensible" cars...meaning much more tame as far as performance is concerned.
I'm struggling over the nit-picky things, e.g., cruise control functionality, lack of Homelink, lack of fold down rear seats, lack of auto-dimming mirror, etc. Of course, I don't like spending such a large amount of money, regardless, on something I don't HAVE to have.
I've been offered a Black/Black leather GT with Premium Pack and Sport Pack for $29,505 out the door and I've been told (but not in writing) that I can apply my GM card to that for a final of $26,505.
Has anyone received anything close to this? Anyone care to comment on whether or not this is a good deal? Please give me more than a simple yes or no. I'm looking for comparisons...I'm getting this offer in Charleston, SC. Thanks!
quietpro, what are you referring to about the cruise control? the cruise control on my 6-spd GTO is awesome. After 4 years of ownership, I remain hugely impressed with my 05 holden/pontiac - but annoyed that the nearest pedders-authorized-suspension-shop is hundreds of mile from here, now that my radius-rod/bushings/something-near-there is surely trashed.
in nearby G8 news, a pal of mine just traded is 04 GTO for a white 6-spd G8-GXP, the day after GM announced the demise of Pontiac...
"I like this ship, it's exciting!"
Do NOT worry about homelink or auto dimmng mirror. I had the same problem with my 09 Jetta TDI, just not offered with the vehicle and VW parts quite silly expensive ( auto dimming, no homelink, parts alone $330! ).
Google "Mito" for the OEM supplier of the day / night and homelink mirrors. I didn't need homelink, got the auto dimming mirror for about $90. I recall the homelink auto dimming was about $260 or thereabouts. They even have OnStar mirrors with auto dimming and homelink for vehicles factory equipped with OnStar to start with ( which I don't believe the G8 has ).
A competent stereo installer should be able to handle the auto dimming homelink mirror as well. The only "hard" part is running power to it. If you are doing this, I suggest considering a bluetooth hands free install at the same time. If you go with something like Blue Connect, which builds in to your headliner about the driver ( I like this and have it in both of my cars, the voice recognition and command is worthwhile IMHO ), the installer can run power once and service both devices.
Good luck with your G8. If I get one, I am holding out later for a GXP 6 speed manual, if if if.
quietpro, I hear you about the steering wheel cruise control - that can be nice too.
fwiw, on my GTO, when cruise is enabled, one tap on end of stalk will make it inactive/remembering-set-speed. two taps turns it off.
Thanks for the tip. I'll try it out and see if the same command works on the G8. That will be good to know.
Love the car. I'm just over 500 miles, still in break-in period. The torque curve from the 6 ltr. is great. The car is also fun to put through the twisties here in W.V.
Anyone notice that the OEM Good Year's are made in China?
$34,155 MSRP
$32,500 Negotiated price
-$4500 Incentives ($2500 loyalty, $1500 cash allowance, $500 dealer cash)
-$5000 GM Dollars (You need to have earned them)
$23,000 +tax, title, & reg.
And nice buy, S "agent 99" Hayes !
You & our favorite NY-Barbarino with the >$3500 GM cards are both heroic.
Personally I'm hoping to find a way to use my $2K GM card rebate to buy the used geo-metro from the free-credit-report-dot-com guy, along with the wear-a-pirate-hat-roundup if I'm really lucky.
ps - For some enginerdly and Holden-o-rific ways to sidetrack yourself from watching the road, maybe check out the diagnostic mode of the dashboard
by starting the car while holding down the "mode" & "set" buttons.
Then you can cycle through the diag info by hitting "set" repeatedly.
One of the cool diag modes on GTO shows the true speed: note how the
big-digits digital-readout reads ~2% faster than actual speed, as does the analog speedo pointer.
After 4 months and 5500 miles still lovin' my G8, although probably a little less if gas prices go way up again.
Another coincidence...I was driving my "Sport Red" G8 GT through the WV twisties yesterday. I used my Verizon phone VNav to show me the way to a casino in Charleston and, as has happened before, it led me to the middle of nowhere. No worries (other than for the REALLY strange folks I passed on the street) because I used the OnStar nav to rescue me. It was all good because I wanted to take the road less traveled and this car LOVES it.
Happy ending...I came out a winner at the casino. It was my birthday, after all.
Glad you were in Charleston and not an hour southwest of there. We may never have seen you again!
Happy Birthday.
Sorry to re-awaken a dead forum, but I was considering leasing a G8. I know what the selling price will be (based on discussions with dealer), they just haven't given me the lease price yet, and I figured I should go in prepared. Does anyone know the MF, residual % (2009 G8 sedan - 6 cyl, 15K per year), etc. that I could use to calculate a price.
Looking at a sales price of 23,500 (31ish MSRP). The reason I might be leaning towards leasing this car is that I don't know what the market will be like in 3 yrs, and depending on the price, I would rather lock in the loss I am willing to pay vs. be surprised by it later.
Thanks,
RJ
The interest on the leasing program is very high. They actually stated it could be as much or more than just getting a loan out on the car. That would be a bad idea for a car that you do not own. Sure, you can turn it back in, but you will be paying more on the car and have nothing to show for it. At least with a loan, you'll be paying towards the principal. A lot of wasted money to go right to interest alone.
Now this was back in May, I am not sure what has changed since then, probably not much.
If you're willing to buy and take it on the back end on this vehicle, they have some amazing deals right now. I just cannot justify the extra few thousand this would end up costing over some of my other options.

If you can pull the trigger on a G8 with a very good sale price, then do it. If not, walk away and look for another car.
A dealer has a G8 GT that's a GM special event vehicle for sale.
Thanks.
