Keep me posted on this too. I just got a new 2011 engine for my Equinox plus fuel pump and fuel injectors. I still don't trust it. We'll see.

    Mine averages 28 mpg combined.

I cannot believe they did not give you a loaner!! That is insane......

Having issues with heater on 2010 Equinox...dealer re programmed but still not correct problem ..sometimes have to keep turning the temperature control knob back and forth to get heat...then a rattling noise as shutters open and close.. dealer says not sure how to repair ???? anyone else out there with this issue..Thanks
  • nox123nox123 Member Posts: 76
I have had similar positive experience with some warranty issues taken care of at my GM Dealer. I had some minor engine work done under warranty, re-programing for transmission shifting issues, heater / defroster control panel replaced Etc. Always offered a loaned at GM Dealer and treated very well. Repairs made never cost me any $$$ or stress. I currently have over 50K on my 2010 4cyl Nox, get 23-26 average MPG and change oil at dealer every 3500-4000 mile. I really enjoy this Nox and glad I have a 100k driveline waranty that has worked so far and saved me money! I will probably trade for a 2014 Nox later this year after 4 years riding this 2010 Nox!
  • duetsuduetsu Member Posts: 36
Have your dealer check for a warranty recall on this. shortly after I bought my 2010 Nox GM had a factory recall to replace the computer module on the heater/defrost.

Glad to see not everyone is suffering :)
How long before GM Sarah responds thanking you for your post!
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
Make sure you check your oil - you could have one of the trucks that has horrific oil consumption problems and needs a new engine. My truck never rode right. I just picked it up yesterday with a new engine. Will let you kow if that has solve the problems you mention in your post.

So true...I was thinking exactly the same thing!! Or one of the other GM paid pacifiers..

In fact, the fakeness of the political corporate concern just makes it worse for those who are at their wits end with this car. It is an insult to their intelligence and I just don't understand why it is allowed on the forum. Ads maybe?
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
What is worse is the response you get when you call GM.. I have ben forbidden to speak with a district manager. I have placed another call but am not holding my breath that someone will call me.
  • tlocketttlockett Member Posts: 8
Sound like we in the same boat!!!!!!!! I just CAN NOT take it. I WILL BE trading my 2010 in for something else. I cannot take these $700 repair bills and my car is still under warranty. Then they had the nerve to give me a $40 credit, REALLY!!!!!

Vehicle is a 2011 Equinox 4 cyl, 36000 miles on it, we do approx 130 miles a day communting here in DC / NOVA. I am seeing lots of posts about excessive oil consumption and engine stalls,,,our vehicle recently started stalling when stationary in traffic or waiting to turn across traffic. First thing I checked wa oil level, perfect, it gets changed every 3000 with new filter each time...I took it to the local dealer in Warrenton VA, where they diagnosed the engine light code as "low oil level" . I told him to check the oil level, which he said was showing as correct. They finally changed out the oil level sensor, as I pointed out that if the oil was at the correct level, only a bad sensor could be the culprit...my point here is a simple one...WHY DOES CHEVROLET FORCE AN ENGINE SHUTDOWN WHEN A LOW OIL LEVEL CODE IS GENERATED? Why not just push a warning up on the DIC to immediately check engine oil level...having the vehicle code out, stall and potentially cause a major traffic accident is just plain and simply STUPID ! I have been a GM owner all my adult life...GM...you just lost me as a client. And a note for GM customer service who monitor these posts,,,,Sarah...your use of copy and paste standard replies is unprofessional and GM's clients deserve better.

    Good morning aussieinva,

Sorry to hear you had to go through this. How has everything been running after the oil level sensor was replaced?

how long did it take GM to respond to the dealer about replacing your engine? I talked with my dealer yesterday, they contacted GM on Monday about the problem of excessive oil consumption but told me they have not been advised as to what to do yet..... altho they did schedule my car to come in on Monday (2/4). When I asked if this was to start the engine replacement was told 'I don't know'....
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
Took it in on Monday and the dealer called my Wednesday to say they were replacing the engine

I wish I had that kind of luck. I have been given the run around, and had a pile of pieces replaced, had high oil consumption, had the auxiliary fuel pump replaced and now I have a blown seal on the back of the engine. Since the seal blew my car has been in the shop for a week with no action. Not the way to treat a customer GM.

Who can I talk to about what my options are? GM Customer SVC Sarah any ideas who I should talk to at GM?

I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox with the 4 cylinder engine. Tuesday the vehicle suddenly starting stalling out and the engine died and the check engine light came on. i tried to crank it up but it would not start. It would only turn over but would'nt fire up. I towed it to the local Chevy dealer and they said the engine had no compression. They also said there was sludge on the dipstick. I change the oil myself at about every 5,000 miles. Currently the car has 68,500 miles approx. I have experienced any sludge in the oil or filter. I have read some posts where Equinox owners are getting new engines put in. I was wondering if it was covered under the powertrain warranty and for what reasons they were getting the new engines? Oil consumption? Anyway my dealer said that I'm probably going to need a new engine which sucks. This car has been babied. They want to see my service record receipts on the oil changes which is hard to come up with since I do them myself. I'm trying to work with walmart to get a copy of my receipt where I bought the oil and filter. Has anyone else experienced any problems like this? Will GM cover this engine?
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
Good luck... they refuse to return my calls.
Picked up my truck monday with the new engine - my husband decided to check the oil last night - thank god - after 250 miles I am 2 quarts low and the oil totally smells like gas!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a nightmare. I am at the end of my rope!!!

I think that may be a tough one. Its ok to change your own oil and still have coverage for warranty I believe, but you do have to keep receipts and should keep written records of changes (also proper oil or acceptable substitute).

Maybe , if your nice about it, they may be willing offer some assistance with costs to repair.

Take the new engine!! I fought for 2+ years regarding the at first noisy engine, then the horrific fuel economy and ultimately the dismal oil consumption. There is a problem with the 2010 engine - let GM fix it. I was lucky to have an amazing dealership that went to bat for me with the manufacturer. It was alot of grief and agony and countless phone calls, emails, and dealer visits. I got my new engine in November and am happy to report better fuel economy and oil consumption and a nice quiet engine. The last step for me in the process was an oil consumption test. When they see high consumption they take the engine apart to look at the cylinders. If they find something called "zebra striping" they will stop all work until the new engine comes in. GM covered everything for me, including a new model rental for all the time my 'nox was in the shop (which was a substantial amount of time!). Sadly, it took alot of time and effort to just get them to do the right bloody thing. Good luck to you, we all feel your pain on this forum!
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
Do you know if your 2nd engine was brand new or rebuilt. I was so hopeful that the new engine would do the trick but after 250 miles already low on oil....
The time and effort involved in this matter is getting exhausting....
I cannot understand how GM can close my complaint and refuse to speak to me...Clearly my issues are not resolved. I do not have a reliable and safe vehicle but I still have a payment which they expect every month.....

right now its still at the dealer for a blown rear main seal. Apparently all of this a s a result of a faulty auxiliary fuel pump which was putting the gas in the oil leading to a high oil consumption. At what point do they stop the band aid fixes and really fix the problem.

I am completely dis-satisfied with the way that GM chose to handle this issue, and I even bought an extended warranty because of all of the issues i was having with my car during the initial bumper to bumper period.
  • jpfjpf Member Posts: 496
With all due respect, GM can't help you (short of giving you a full refund for the purchase) because this generation Equinox is designed and engineered so poorly. There is no fix to a poorly engineered and designed vehicle. Your best bet is to get out of the vehicle by selling it or trading it in. Good luck.

I've posted before regarding having the engine replaced on my 2010 Equinoix LS, just note GM doesn't not do a full engine swap, thery just replace bottom of the engine, main block, any other parts are taken off ur old engine and placed on the new.

Warranty wise ur only coverd for the block, bottom half of the new engine, above that is not. I learned that when last Saturday as I was driving my car lost power and got the following messages "Engine power reduced" and "service stabilitrak". I managed to make it to my dealer, car only able to do 20kms, and it tunerd out that the throttle body wasn't opening due to the cold, lube was freezing, causing the code, and they could relace it for $499.99+ tax, not covered on my warranty on the new engine. I said no and they just cleared the code and i was on my way. My Brother-in-Law who is a mechanic, said that all that needs to be done is just remove the thorttle body and clean it out, so all of the gunk that builds up is cleaned and can't freeze, just $80.

Since then it has happend one more time, i just pulled over, waitied 15-20 mins and the computer cleared and |I was able to drive again. Has anyone else had similar issues?|

My other new issue is, now my rear hatch wont open, i managed to get it a few times, but all it does is pop open on random and i can't open it, need to push hard to get is shut again. The button to open the trunk on the door it self no longer engages, it would at times, which would allow me to get the trunk open. Any one with simlary issues?

Sorry for the long post, but i'm so annoyed with the SUV, im ready to trade it in and get a used car. I should have stayed with my 2008 Malibu, but the Equinox caught my eye and i could have used the extra room.
  • jpfjpf Member Posts: 496
The reduce engine power and service stabilitrak problems are also common to the Impala. From reading that forum, the throttle body or accelerator appears to be the culprits. Check out the Impala forum on this issue for more information. Good luck.

It is a shame they are not standing behind thier product. Who wants a 2 year old car with a "new" or supposedly "new" engine.... They need to take these vehicles back for lease customer and provide the customers who purchased them a new model without all the headaches.
They really are GOVERNMENT MOTORS - the government should have let them TANK!!!
It is our tax money that bailed them out - and look how they treat their customers.....
    HORRORFIC!!!!
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
Went to drive an Acura this weekend - when I pulled into the lot with my piece of crap - the dealer said let me guess - you have ONE OF THOSE EQUINOXES..... Problem is so well know - GM get you head out of the sand and help the people you have royally screwed!
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
What mileage are you getting with your new engine - I am only getting 18
  • didhedorightdidhedoright Member Posts: 15
I asked for that "please take the Nox back !" they replied we will give you the book value and a great deal on a GM product......" I wanted a divorce from them instead they give me back the value of a crappy marriage and they want me to meet his brother to replace hubby...." By the way I received a 50$ gift certificate from GM to go against the next repair, so I will use it for cab fare ....
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
How insulting - they should be giving everyone gifts cards for the gas milage we do not get that they advertised - Hyndai does - oh and yeah - pay me back for all oil I needed to put in this truck over the past 2 years!
I got the offer of a credit towards anothe GM also - that was probably the only time I had a good laugh lately....
I think I am going to get big stickers to put on the truck that say GM SUCKS for the rest of the time I am forced to drive this piece of crap!!!
  • ray80ray80 Member Posts: 1,655
I don't think it would be unusual to see poor mileage on new engine, should get better after a few thousand miles
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
Have no high expectations - never got more than 18 m.p.g on old engine - don't really expect anything better this time around.....

Don't think I have ever read truer words on this forum.

I was sitting in a 2010 Nox awhile back. I asked the salewoman leaning over the door if she "had heard about any issues these cars have been having"? She looked curious..so I elaborated...any pinging issues, oil burning, FE complaints being way under the ratings etc. I knew the answer, but wanted to see if she was trustworthy. Before I judged her, I asked how long she had been with GM? Well she had been there plenty enough years..so, ya... I found out if she was trustworthy.
    She wasn't.

I have been looking at a Spark lately, and who knows..it might have just enough Korean content in it that it is not total junk, but can the selling manufacturer be trusted? That's the $60000 question..many would say no, go anywhere but GM.

Hope you can get out from under it without too much extra grief..GM should being owning these cars and giving customers who trusted, another chance at a better product, even another GM product if that was the only option.

My local dealership is telling me to get my oil purchase receipts because GM won't cover my engine under warranty without the receipts showing where I purchased my oil and filter. There telling me if GM won't cover the engine I'm looking at about $6000 for a new engine. I'm unemployed with my third child on the way. There is no way I could pay for a new engine. GM needs to step up and replace my engine so my wife and I can have a vehicle to drive. It's very frustrating that a vehicle that I maintained frequently has had an engine failure due to bad parts. I need help GM.
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
This is terrible - especially since this is a KNOWN issue - you need to engage any and all social media to ensure you get that new engine with paying for it! How sad.
GM - step up - enough is enough!! Your greed is overwhelming - hopefully the next time you need to be bailed out the government turns it back on you the way you have turned your back on the your customers!!!!

I purchased new pontiacs and chevrolets since I started driving 47 years ago with one exception a new 2009 Toyota corolla. On the corolla I had an alternator at 43000 miles (out of warranty) however the dealership apologized for the failure and covered the cost. At 53000 miles I had the water pump leaking and again they apologized and replaced at no charge. I purchased a used 2010 4 cyl equinox 9 months ago since the equinox will pull much more weight than the Toyota venza. I am really beginning to regret that decision since I will not have any receipts for the oil changes made by the previous owner who put 20,000 miles on it before I bought it. I agree with every one that GM needs to cover all these bad engines without looking for any and all excuses to avoid covering these engines. If my engine fails and is not covered since I do not have the previous owners receipts, I guarantee I and my 3 sons will not buy anything GM makes ever again. Can GM really afford to loose all these customers?
  • juve3juve3 Member Posts: 15
Just updating my situation, I have contacted GM here in Canada, waiting to hear back from them. Once again I got the Reduced engine Power issue in the middle of traffic, very unsafe. Dealer still hasn't called me to let me know the new throttle body they ordered had come in. Took my car to my brother in laws shop to get the codes read, 3 came up. First being the recurring throttle body issue, new ones are cam shaft sensor and the other with voltage.

Called GM today and rep I spoke to before not in today, can't wait to tell her the new issues. I'm gonna fight to have these repairs covered by GM, I can't believe all the issues this suv has had. I look forward to what is next.
  • lsb1955lsb1955 Member Posts: 17
The dealer you are working with is not looking out for you. I didn't have to present any receipts for mine. Granted that I didn have it serviced there some but not everytime.
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
Good luck - I cannot get anyone to speak to regarding my issues - as far as they are concerned my case is closed.....
The replaced the engine - however the truck still does not get the advertised gas mileage and rides like crap......
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
I guess they really don't care about the customers - probably figuring the government will bail them out again!
