With the new engine i am averaging 19 MPG.....
The ride is somewhat the same - rough acceleration and no pep. I will be checking the oil after 1000 miles to make sure there are no oil consumption issues.
Cannot wait until this truck is gone :(

My 2010 is very efficient. Efficient at burning oil that is!
The water pump went two months ago and GM paid for that thankfully!
My dealership has officialyl said my car is burning lots of oil after 5 visits to confirm.
The lastest is they filled it with the new DEXOS oil as if that is going to fix something.
I"m sure they hope the car gets totalled before I get to return for the next check in!

Anyone else get the DEXOS treatment?
    Thanks

Nope got a new engine - would always pray it would fall off the lift when they were working on it!!!
You sound like you need a new engine as well.....
  • juve3juve3 Member Posts: 15
Same as before, only difference is so far not losing any oil. Still noisy and runs rough. Gas millage the same, been a year and a half now. While waiting for a solution to my new issues, I have parked the Equinox, i can't trust it, all i could think of was me to be driving on the highway and then go from doing 110kms to 20kms due to losing enging power and some one behind me not paying attention.

    ciao for now

I am car shopping now as we speak - will be parking the piece of crap as well - will not put my kids in it anymore!

Well, it's going back to the dealer on Tuesday. It's making popping noises when turning/slowing down. I don't have time for this mess.

SUEVAN Wow..Why would you continue to be so negative??? You really need to cooperate with your GM / dealer and get REPAIR issues resolved; you do have a 100K drive line warranty IF YOUR SERVICE RECORDS ARE IN ORDER! JUST GET A FREE dealer loaner till issues are resolved. I'm a Nox owner since October 2009 and have never been treated wrong by MY GM dealer or denied 100k warranty and reasonable repair issues! What is up with all the bashing and negative garbage? I have over 50k on my 2010 4cyl Nox and have never been broke down or denied a reasonable repair covered by MY GM warranty plan..INCLUDING THE GM FREE TOW OR 24 HOUR GM ONSTAR OWNER ASSISTANCE...

CHALLANGE..WE SHOULD SWAP OUR NOX VEHICALS AND SEE IF YOU CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES WITH MY GM NOX VEHICAL! I HAVE OWNED AND MAINTAINED MY NOX AT GM MY FLORIDA GM DEALER SINCE OCTOBER 2009!

I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN EXPERIENCING YOUR REAL NOX WARRENTY ISSUES YOU SAY YOU ARE HAVING!!!!!
  • nox123nox123 Member Posts: 76
PLEASE ....NOW TELL EVERYONE ABOUT YOUR GM ISSUES STARTING FROM INCEPTION OF YOUR NEW VEHICAL PURCHASE AND HOW YOU MAINTAINED YOUR GM VEHICAL TO THIS POINT!
  • nox123nox123 Member Posts: 76
REALLY....WOULD YOU BACK UP A MANUFACTURES WARRENTY IF THE OWNER / CONSUMER DID NOT MAINTAIN THE VEHICAL OR SHOW DOCUMENTATION FOR ENGINE MAINTENIENCE? ANY OWNER THAT DOSE NOT FOLLOW THE WARRATY / SERVICE GUIDLINES IS NOT GOING TO BE A HAPPY OWNER...CHANGING OIL & FILTERS IS JUST CHEAP INSURANCE AND COMMON SENSE!
  • jpfjpf Member Posts: 496
No need to use caps! As for your other comments, stop insulting car owners. They have issues and have the right to complain. Further, just by the sheer number of complaints and the numerous blogs on the internet regarding problems with this vintage of vehicle indicates the issues are more than just regular maintenance issues.
  • nox123nox123 Member Posts: 76
I have had several issues and each time the warranty covered the issues! The Dealer had a loaner available and the specific issue was resolved! I have service documenation for Oil Changes, Filters, Trans Service Etc and have never been denied a loaner or free GM Warranty service to date. I have experienced engine timing chain issues that basicly eliminated the clicking noise in engine; reprogramed transmission to shift as engineered, Heater control panel replaced. I personally know people that think nothing of NOT Changing motor oil; these are probably the same owners that are screeming about 4cyl nox engine issues; and as a result have warranty issues with dealer! If GM wanted to replace my NOX motor this week; I would drive off in their loaner and have them ring me when done; I would welcome a New FREE Motor if this should become nessisary! In addition; consumer reports continues to reccomend the Chevy Nox as a reliable, safe and trouble free SUV vehical!

NOX123 - I too have had several warranty issues with my 2010 Equinox. And while the warranty coverage has been good - so far - I take exception to your statement that owners who do not do regular oil changes are the ones who are having engine issues. I have always had regular oil changes - at the dealer - and have major oil consumption issues and also a warped oil pan now on my engine. I've had the timing chain replaced, the heater module and the oil pump replaced - just to name a few of the issues my car has had.
My dealer doesn't want to replace the oil pan until he hears back from GM what they are going to do about the engine oil consumption. Its been over two weeks now and nothing has been resolved.
The dealership I'm at now is great about putting me in a loaner for the duration of the repairs I've had, but not all of them are this way. The dealership I bought the car from told me I had to rent a car at my cost if I needed to leave the vehicle. This was the case even for a factory recall repair two months after I bought the car - so not all dealers are alike or care about their customers once the sale is made.
I would welcome a new engine in this car and can only hope that is what GM will do for me. I just want them to stand behind that 'famous' 100k powertrain warranty.

Droppped my 2010 Equinox off today to have engine replaced. 2/11/13. Today would be it's 3Rd birthday right around 50,000 miles. Has been burning oil.. only got 21 mPG local & highway. Will see what happens from here.
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
The point is no one buys a car and is happy that the engine needs to be replaced before 50,000 miles along with many other parts. And as it is evident from this forum - this is not a one off situation. Many hours of my time have been spent back and forth from the dealer - this is not what I signed up for - not did I initially expect 18 mpg.... nothing with this vehicle is what I expected - especially the serivce from GOVERNMENT MOTORS!
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
I have a new engine - my son asked me why the car feels like a rocking chair - the ride is terrible..... PLEASE GM take this piece of crap back!!!
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
My dealer is great - they have given me loaners and have repaired my vehicle to the best of their ability.... My issue is it still is not a safe vehicle - does not ride right - at times does not respond when i press on the gas after pulling out on a highway.
I would gladly swap with you. Or I would be glad to drive YOUR kids in my NOX!!! Unless you can walk in someone else's shoes - you should really keep your comments to yourself.
Be grateful you did not get one of the trucks the rest of us are suffering with!
  • nox123nox123 Member Posts: 76
Be glad you have a 100k warranty on this questionable drive line; it was not all that long ago 36K was the GM Deal for Warranty Service! I still enjoy my Nox after 3.5 Years @ 52K + miles of local / Hwy driving; feel safe, average 24mpg, never broke down or left stranded. However; I will trade this 2010 Nox on its 4th birthday in October 2013 and purchase a 2014 Nox that will probably be WELL Engineered by then! Consumer report ratings are still up there; must be a very low percent of newer nox owners having ongoing un-resolved issues with this Nox vehical.

I just had a throttle body replaced in my 2010 Chevy Equinox which I purchased 9 months ago. The part was covered under my extended warranty. It took 1 month to get this fixed because, Chevy stated all throttle bodies were on back order until further notice. Good luck. Also, I hope you have a spare vehicle to drive while you car sits at the dealership. I am not being negative but, after reading all the issues with Chevy and based on my own experience... get it fixed and trade it in for a non - GM vehicle.
  • juve3juve3 Member Posts: 15
I'm in the same situation now, waiting for a throttle body, still on back order in all of North America. Unfortunatly it won't be under warranty, but the dealer has said we can work on the price. Recently had the cam shaft solonoids replaced under warranty and had the rear trunk pad replaced, had issues opening my trunk. I have been very frustrated with the issues with my 2010 nox, but I will admit I still enjoy it, and if I could I would trade it for a 2013. With the weather a little milder the last few days I have been able to drive my equinox, I seem to have the engine power issues when its really cold, so I have had to park it due to not feeling safe, once i get the throttle body replaced things will be back to normal.

Update on my 2010... yesterday I called my dealer and was told they hadn't gotten a response in the last two week from GM - so I emailed GM directly and in an email response was told someone from GM will be calling me today and they also assigned a case number to my complaint. Not sure if this will expedite the process but it's time to start being the squeaky wheel in this matter. Last nite I checked the oil in my car as directed by the service tech at the dealer and found white, milkish substance on the dipstick after checking it twice.... hmmm head casket going??? Called dealer this morning and advised them of the development and that I had contacted GM....
Dealer told me to drop off the car this afternoon and pick up the loaner they have for me. Tech told me he hasn't been advised that GM has given them a fix for the problems.
    And so it goes.......

My 2011 Chevy Equinox has had the stalling issue since it hit about 20,000 miles. I bought the vehicle new. On January 23, 2013 I had it at the dealer and they replaced my cam actuators. They told me that should take care of the problem. Yesterday on my way to work, it stalled on me 3 times. I again took it to the dealership. This time they replaced the solenoid valves. The service manager said that GM was going to issue a recall regarding these issues. I will be surprised if this fixes my stalling issue. I am afraid to go long distances with my Equinox.

so the dealer called me first thing this morning. A new engine has been ordered and will installed when it arrives. They gave me a loaner last nite to drive in the duration. Great service from the dealer!! Let's hope this new engine replacement fixes the issues. :)

After having many of the same problems (excessive oil consumption, ticking in the engine, poor gas mileage, smell of oil, timing issues) I took my 2010 Equinox into a Chevy Dealer who repeatedly told me that they could find nothing wrong. I finally decided to do my own research and ended up here, among other forums. Needless to say, I am scheduled to take it to a DIFFERENT Chevy dealer tomorrow. My guess is that mine too, will need a new engine. MY question is this - does the "new engine" solve the problem of the incompatible metals of the piston and cylinders? Or can I expect this problem to arise again in another 50k miles? Is the new engine under a 100k mile warranty? Or the typical dealer warranty on parts and labor? My husband is strongly trying to talk my into getting rid of my nox after the new engine is put in. I really like the vehicle, but am worried about hanging onto it.
  • duetsuduetsu Member Posts: 36
meowkat148 - I have some of the same questions that you do. At the moment I am having conversation with the GM Specialist about my car. It is in the shop with a new 2013 engine ordered and to be installed next week. I'm so happy about that. But when I asked about the warranty on this new engine the answers I got were conflicting. At first she said it would have the standard 12 month/12k miles dealer warranty. No I said that's not good enough. Isn't GM standing behind these engines? Then she said it would be covered under the balance of my powertrain warranty. Told her I would like a new 36k/3 yr warranty as I am 39 months (less than 2yrs left) into my powertrain warranty. She's investigating the owner specific options I may have and calling back with them today. I also asked what GM might be willing to do towards a new car as I feel this one may have some lemon issues..... we'll see what GM will do....
Like you I really like this car. The mileage has been great and it handles so well. Find a dealer who will work with/for you. The dealer I am at now is wonderful, the car has been in so much the last year we are on a first name 'how-you-doing' basis... but I believe they are trying to do the best for me. Supposedly my Nox is the only 2010 they have had with these problems. And I think they were doubtful about the engine issues until I asked them to check out this forum.
Maybe others who have had the new engine replaced can give more insight on the warranty of it. I know I would appreciate their input....

Just got off the phone and the district specialist on my case from GM told me that the best and ONLY thing GM will do is offer me either a $500 Owner Loyalty credit good for one year only or a 12 month Specialty Care package good for oil changes and tire rotations. I have 90 days to decide. GM won't extend the warranty for a full three yr/36k miles on the new engine either. I get the balance of the powertrain and that's it. Gosh Thanks ever so much. They don't seem to understand my fear that this engine won't fail at 50K miles like the last one did.

I appreciate that yes GM is standing behind the original warranty on the car, just pretty disappointed that they don't seem to be doing much to keep me as a happy customer. And the 'Specialist' tells me she is closing the case as 'pending'.... why do I get the feeling in a few weeks once I decide on these offers that they will be off the table? Offer me $2k towards a new car and I would be happier.
  • dnydny Member Posts: 8
duetsu ... thanks for the info on your experience regarding the warranty.

I dropped my 2010 Equinox off at the dealer on Monday with the same problems and they have ordered an engine to put in. I made it to 75000 miles before the oil consumption got really bad so if I get the same warranty, I'm looking at just 25000 miles of warranty.

Frankly I like this car, and I had hoped to keep this car past 100000 miles but there is just no way I want to take that kind of a chance with an engine design that is known to be defective.

I agree with you in that GM should be offering everyone who owns this car a better than usual trade valuation towards another vehicle, i.e. all the current promotions plus another $2K bonus for having to deal with this crap.
  • jpfjpf Member Posts: 496
I don't understand why GM won't give you a 3 year/36k mile warranty on the new engine. I believe, if you go to a GM dealer and buy (i.e. pay cash) a factory made engine, then it comes with a 3 year/36k mile warranty. If they're replacing the engine with a "new" engine under warranty, then it should come with the 3 year/36k mile warranty. Unless the so called "new" engine is really a rebuilt engine. You need to find out if the "new" engine is really new. Good luck.

they do not appear to be doing anything to keep happy customers. When I have I will have to go thru the earlier posts - people were given replacement vehicles or 3000.00 credits....
Those offers do not sem to be on the table any more....
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
Good luck is right - GM refuses to speak to me since I got the new engine and has closed my case.....
  • duetsuduetsu Member Posts: 36
You are correct - that kind of offer is not on the table. The district rep I spoke to told me that really I didn't have that many issues with my car, gosh I'm driving a loaner while the replacement engine work is done, what MORE would I want? I wasn't inconvenienced the numerous times I had to take the car to the dealer. Not at all.
I bought this car in good faith. Gave my hard earned money in good faith of getting a quality vehicle. Obviously GM got the better part of this deal.
Offering $500 credit to a new car is insulting. I can get $500 off before the salesperson and I even start talking serious numbers. I'm not looking for something for nothing. I would like GM to care about what makes me a happy customer. This has been a lesson in dealing with a global corporation that is so large taking care of the individual is certainly not a priority.
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
Amen - they think just because they replaced the engine they are off the hook - well the car still does not get the stated gas mileage and runs really rough....
And they have not even considered the time and energy on our parts bringing this vehicle back to the shop so many time, nor all the oil I needed to put into it...
You are right - we purchased these vehicles in good faith... with our hard earned money.
They have lost a customer for life - and I make it a point to share this story with as many people as possible as people need to be aware of what a potential disaster is in store!!!
  • duetsuduetsu Member Posts: 36
I agree with you. WAS a lifetime GM customer .... did I mention that the $500 customer loyalty credit was only good for a year? how nice...

I work for a large equipment manufacturer within the service engineering dept. I see how our company goes the extra mile to please the customer when something fails. We depend on repeat business and customer loyalty. We even have a category of warranty called 'goodwill' that enables dealers to take care of issues that are out of warranty to keep the customer happy.
Here's the irony where my case is concerned. Had the snotty district rep apologized sincerely instead of reading from a script and offered me, say $2000 off of a new vehicle, I would have been happy. I would have felt like I had an ace in the hole, and probably NEVER USED IT. Would have kept this car and drove on.
  • juve3juve3 Member Posts: 15
Well I'm dropping my car off at the dealer tomorrow morning, throttle body finally came in. Hopefully this resloves my issues and I really hope thats the end of them. Fingers crossed.
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
I too work for a large company in the finance industry - and we would never treat oyur customers like this....
    Complete sin!
  • meowkat148meowkat148 Member Posts: 2
So the dealer calls....and tells me that the timing chain is bad and will be replacing that under warranty along with a couple sensors and other things. To which he so dutifully explained to me that the timing chain is dependent on oil. Please - do go on. When questioned as to WHY the timing chain was bad - ie. the engine consistenly running low on oil - he gave no answer. When I specifically explained to him what I thought was wrong (cylinder problem) - said that he couldn't investigate that until he could prove that I was excessively consuming oil. He also said that if i was claiming that, that I needed to produce maintenance records to prove that I had taken care of the vehicle so as to not void my warranty. While I may be able to produce some of those records, I often change the oil myself - and have been forced to add oil on the fly. Not happy with how I was treated. Being forced to go through "the process" when I have a good feeling that the cylinders are the problem in the first place. I know that I am not entirely knowledgeable about engine, but aren't their other signs of oil consumption - ie spark plug evidence?

Hi-My name is Traci-I named my truck "Chuck" Chuck is sick--REAL sick. Chevy Case ID number 71-1135219519
11 visits to service with NO RESOLUTION to my problem.
    We replaced
    a) Timing Belt
    b) High Pressure Fuel Pump (TWICE)
    c) Heater Core
    d) AC Compressor
    e) Changed the cover on the crankcase (?)
    f) power wash engine
    g) Carbon filter changed

GOD-I have lost count on the amount of work I have had done. Owning this truck as become my part time job. We are about to do the Valve Cover. No leaks, no puddles, no blue smoke. Just buring oil smell inside and around the running car during idle.

Chevrolet Customer Service thinks its ok for me to CONTINUE to own/drive a truck that releases the smell of buring oil IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT when the truck is
    1.stopped at a light
    2.warming up in the driveway
    3.stuck in traffic
    4. ANYTIME it is standing still

Oder is also OUTSIDE the truck.

They have refused to offer a Service Engineer because my truck has 70,000 miles and is NOT covered under the bumper to bumper.(this issue began over 6 months ago and about 5k miles or more) (I do have an extended bumper to bumper tho) They think I should TRADE my truck for a new one (AND take a LOSS on this one)

I am at my wits end. I have no resolution. My 4 year old HATES to get in my truck because "it makes her belly hurt
Chevrolet does not think my daughters safety is important enough. Please, Please, Please help. I am at a complete loss.
Don’t get me wrong, I have owned and driven Chevrolets MY ENTIRE LIFE! This is my 2nd Equinox. (I had a 2008 that I traded when I got this one)

Help. I can’t say it enough.
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
I am convincved that until someone dies - they will not do a damn thing!!!
I am so sorry for your daughter. This is my first and last chevy piece of crap - hoping to scrape together enough money together to buy another car and park this piece of crap until the lease is over and bring it back.
Funny you should mention the smell - my 11 year old son the other day mentioned how bad my truck smells with the new engine....
I give up - i cannot afford anymore time on this or I will loose my job and not be able to pay for the piece of crap....
Good luck to you :lemon: :lemon: :lemon:

To all of the unfortunate owners of a 2010 equinox, if you have any chance, GET RID OF THE CAR NOW. GM is apparently building cars for leasing only, because they don't last more than 3 years. I have owned Nissans, Mitsubishis, Hondas, all with more mileage on them than my 2010 equinox and have never had the problems i'm experiencing. I now have a 3 year old car with 50,000 miles on it that has a new transmission and new engine. The transmission failed first followed by 2 weeks later the engine failed. Between warranty replacement parts and loaner cars, GM has spent more money on this car than the purchase price. A note to everyone, GM has no intention of helping anyone out, the GM social media folks have no power to do anything to help you, district managers have no power to help you. The only chance you had was if you filed a lemon law case before your car had 24,000 miles on it. I filed a lemon law after the 24,000 mile period, the second I filed the case GM calls me and says they will do everything they can to help me, blah blah blah, the second the case was closed due to mileage being over 24,000 miles they called me to tell me the case is closed, they will do nothing. Luckily I have a phenomenal service department who has been helping me deal with Government Motors, but the second I get a chance to sell, trade, or give this car away I plan on it and I plan on never ever, buying a GM again. In all of my years of driving cars, this is the first car I have ever had to tow, the tow truck guy looked at me and was like "how in the world does a 3 year old car have a dead transmission". No one on this forum can offer any help, they have no power so stop giving people false hope SocialMedia folks. The citizens of this country bailed out this piece of garbage company and then bought there cars to help support the USA and what do we get in return, a big giant lemon that GM will not stand behind. If you have a 2010 equinox run, GM knows the car burns too much oil, they just quietly issued another engine software update to lower the mileage you change the oil at. They know this car is a lemon but they won't stand behind their cars and buy them back. GM has spent over $3500 is loaner car fees alone, I have been to local car rental place so many times for a loaner that they know my face and name, that is disgusting. The only good thing about getting loaner cars is that every time I get a loaner car it has to be a GM, dealer policy, I get to experience the rest of the crappy cars GM has to offer. Explain to me how I get better mileage in an Equinox than I did in a rental Malibu and Impala? Good luck to all the other equinox owners, stay strong, find a good service department, don't depend on GM customer service they have no power to help you.

I thank god everyday I leased this hunk of junk. Notice how BMW just did a big recall - GM - take a look at them and learn.....
The support for the NOX owners is pathetic. I think I will have big stickers made to put on this car for my last 10 months letting everyone know it is a hunk of crap and GM does not care!!!

i thought of doing same thing! A big magnetic sign on the back so ewveryone can read it while I sit in traffic. Last rep i talked to aske dme what I was looking for? i said something!!!! I want me deposit back on this car or I want a a few months of my car payment paid bc of how many service days my car has been in shop -I want a crdit towards another car etc..he said nothing they can do - my warranty has covered everything. I said not my sanity!! not my time! Oh and by the way - I PAY for the extra warranty. I asked to talk to someone at GM - he said theres no number to contact them. Imagine a business with no phones? Interesting. I sent my case to GMs PO box only to get a call from the same service rep at Chevy. They forwarded it to him again!!!! I also sent my case to the New york State Attorney General. And every few weeks i remind my 485 friends on facebook how much they should avoid GM and Chevy. Hopefully everyone of you has used social media to your advantage.

I know how you feel. We are at 50,200 miles and have had our Equinox towed to the dealer 3 separate times. We have an engine replacement at 42k, a fuel pump, cam actuatior, and I've now seen it all: this weekend the lemon won't start, just clicks. The battery was replaced 2 months ago so I was sure it wasn't that. After 25 minutes of sitting, I got it to start. I took it directly to the dealer and was told the key sensor was faulty. NOW I HAVE A CAR WHERE THE KEYS DON'T EVEN WORK?! They tell me they'll reprogram it from my spare key and I'm now out $119.

GM should be embarrassed of this product.
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
I have been doing the same with social media and will probably get the sign as I sit in tons of traffic!!!
I would be willing to split the remaining lease payments if they would take this piece of junk back.... but no - no offer on the table so I will spend the rest of my days making sure everyone I come in contact with never purchases a GM product again!
  • suevensueven Member Posts: 79
    Unbelievable!!! I feel your pain.....
It is a wonder they would even think to charge anyone with one of these lemons for anything!!

Had the throttle body done Saturday, so far so good, but on Sunday the radio turned off then on again, then after a bit the radio turned off again, not lit up, just black display, heat and a/c still worked.. I just laughed and laughed, yet another potential problem?... then when I got home and shut the car off the radio came back up. Hasn't done it again yet. Anyways, my dealership was great, helped out alot with the cost of the throttle body replacement, i'm thinking of asking them for my own private room and chair since I just know i'll be back.

My dealer called and the car is ready for me to pick up this afternoon. Great job!!
The GM district specialist also called me and again the most/best I can hope for in all this mess is $500 towards a new car and/or a years worth of free oil changes, lubes and tire rotations. Am I happy about all this and the way I feel that GM just doesn't give a damn about me or other owners? Heck no, but it is what it is.... and I can buy from another manufacturer.
The $500 offer is an insult to my intelligence. I get a GM supplier discount already and I can get $500 off before I even have a serious chat with the salesman over pricing....
Is it enough to keep me as a GM owner? KMA GM.... I'll be buying someone else's product....
What kind of warranty have other 2010 Nox owners received? Just curious before I go to the dealer to pick up my car.....
