What I meant to say was, what do you think I could get from a dealer with a 2008 Volvo S80 with NAV, heated seats front and rear (front seats also ventilated) and 61K miles. I would like to use it as a trade in. I am hoping for $10,000.00 (very good condition), what are your thoughts?

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,891

    Which engine?
    Any past or present damage?
    What part of the country?
    What color combo?

S80 3.2L, Ice White (Sand Stone Beige interior), Sport Package, Climate park Assist Front and Rear, Volvo Navigation. Yes one accident and everything was repaired perfectly (I checked online and this reduces the price maybe $10,300). I am the only owner.

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,891

but how bad was the accident? how much $$ in damage? Repainting a bumper is totally different from replacing 3 body panels and 2 airbags. It will affect the value.

Miles are low, color should be good in any part of the country. If we're talking a resprayed bumper, your number isn't unreasonable. If metal has been repainted and the carfax shows it, you could have a tough time ahead.

Hi, what kind of trade value can I expect for a 2012 4Runner SR5 4WD with 25K miles in Blizzard Pearl with Convenience Pkg, Cargo Deck, Leather, and Alarm? No accidents or damage and all service records.

What can I expect for a trade: a 2007 Toyota Sequoia SR5 V8 4.7L 4WD with 27K miles (yep, only 27K), Desert Sand Mica, cloth, no accidents or damage? Garage kept and owner is ocd about keeping it detailed, 3K on tires SW VA 24018 zip.

Well I certainly have no comps for that. Lowest of late was 62k miles that hit $14800. Why not sell it yourself? Dealer is prob gonna hit you at like 15k.

Thanks for the rapid comeback. I was looking at the $21 - 22K range. Private party might be the way. Didn't want the hassle.
Might run it by a dealer to test the water.

Ok. So I have a 2005 jeep wrangler unlimited. Soft top, stick, 124,000 mile. I have owned since new and it is in great shape but could use a new top and shocks. Thought I would keep a long time but thinking of selling to buy a roadster for the wife's 50th. I am in south florida. Any ideas!

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,891

Tough one. Could be as low as $7k.

Do you think a dealer would give me $4K for a 2003 Mini Cooper S, clean, 6 spd, dark green with black top, fully loaded with options (except NAV), 111K miles? Has a few chips on front fascia and hood, some road rash on wheels, new tires--very nice 5-footer.

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,891

I'm going to say its unlikely. Really depends on the dealer. If its the type that would put it on their lot, they should be able to make that happen if you are buying from them. If a dealer that only wants to wholesale it, you might have a tough time getting over $3k-3500.

Although, you are in cali, right? And with a glass roof? So that might help matters tremendously (although I'd think the black top isn't the best choice).

  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481

yep, California and glass roof. Hmmm...I don't think I'd trade it at $3K. Good to know, though.

Thanks for the update on the jeep. For 7k I think I would keep it. Maybe try private party route and see what it brings. It really is a great beach/weekend ride.

  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481

Well the trade was based on the convenience factor (as you well know). It would make a nice down on a new, or newer one. I need to drive the 2014s first.

q - turning the tables a bit. My sister wants to buy a car and I'm wondering if we can use your knowledge to figure out a good starting point for negotiations.

2010 Infiniti G37 Coupe. 41K miles, premium and nav. Not CPO.

Dealer is asking $25K. Sister wants to get $500 off - I'm thinking she should start at $23K and go up from there.

They are averaging in that $21k zip code. Some pushing over 22. My guess is $24k buys it.

What would price range be from a dealer? 7k miles small scratches. 20inch tires premium sound leather. How much should I pay? 2 LT RS 2010 Camaro
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
    edited May 2014

I think you asked this somewhere else in the forum. I guessed 18K--$20K for a V-6, which I think is the standard equip on a 2 LT. I'm not sure what you mean by "scratches"--if they are ground down to the primer, maybe a good deal less.

  • chow3chow3 Member Posts: 37

2004 bmw z4 tampa. 56 thousand miles white with tan. Standard and looks really good at a dealer. What is a fair price?

  • insaniakinsaniak Member Posts: 15
    @MrShift@Edmunds‌
Even with only 7k miles? 2Lt with RS package also. I'm just trying to get an idea I don't want to over pay they want 25k for it
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
    edited May 2014

Okay, the RS package adds a little but not a lot. Let's look at the whole thing more carefully.

Normally the car would have about 40,000 miles, so do you really want to pay $5,000 more for those 33,000 miles? That should be worth maybe a $1500 premium at best.

I mean, of what benefit is 7,000 miles? If you don't use the car in order to keep the miles low, then you have a $25,000 car you don't drive, but it also too new to be collectible in any way--it will continue to depreciate as you store it. If you drive it all the time as a daily driver, then you will quickly eliminate the low mileage, thereby rendering your $5,000 premium of no value anymore.

The RS package is an appearance package which includes different headlights, a drip rail, a spoiler and 20 inch wheels. That's worth something but really it's just cosmetic stuff.

$25,000 is full dealer retail, if that's what you want to pay. They probably won't take $20K unless they've been sitting on it a long time, so I'd guess the car will sell at $21.5K to $22.5K and that's includes a generous premium for low miles.

But again, don't expect this car to retain its value, and even less so with the V-6 option.

There are some very experiences sales people here on the board so they might have a different opinion than I do, and if so, I'd listen to them.

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,891

V6 2010 Camaro? Well, a couple with those low miles have settled in just a tad south of $22k at the block, so they probably won't come down a whole lot from that $25k number.

you've left a lot to the imagination on that z4. Fair price? Somewhere between $11k and $15k depending on the details.

That's for sure they wouldn't even budge at 26900... They said its like brand new.. Someone will pay if not you so I said forget it then they try and talk to me in terms if payments... I was like if you won't even go down from that price I'm not buying

Okay so let's say the dealer gets the car at auction for $21.5K, washes and preps it--he could sell for $23,5K. I wouldn't pay that, but someone probably will....but the question remains...why does one seek low miles on a depreciating asset? Store it and you lose. Use it and you lose.

Looking at a couple of Civic Si's:

    In Colorado,

    2008 Civic Si Coupe,
    Blue exterior, black interior,
    Navigation,
    48,000 miles,
Very well maintained and in nice condition. Clean one-owner carfax.
    Dealer listed at $15,800.

    2008 Civic Si Sedan,
    Black, black,
    Navigation,
    66,000 miles,
Haven't looked at it in person, so can't vouch for its condition, but let's assume it's in good shape.
    Clean one-owner autocheck.
    Dealer listed at $14,995.

These seem to hold their value annoyingly well (from a buyer perspective). What are these going for?

    Thanks!

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,891

Seems like a good deal on the coupe. Only a few with miles like that and they averaged around $14k.

Sedan is a bit less of a deal but still not bad. About $12k auction value.

Great - thanks for responding so quickly.

I figured those were pretty decent deals on the Si's. Was hoping there may be more room for wiggle, but sounds like they're priced fairly.

They probably have near $21k into the green one, so not a lot of wiggle room there, either. $23,500 would be fair, $23k would be a good deal.

I'm sure you have your reasons, but I just want to point out that an equivalent Mustang would be less expensive and offer better performance and slightly better fuel mileage. A 2011 Premium V6 coupe with 25k miles is about $17k at auction, hitting the lot at $18k'ish, and selling at a fair price of $20k-$21k.

Somewhat 'off the wall' question for you, Q:

A friend traded in his 2002 BMW 330 coupe a while ago. He had owned it since new, and it had very low miles for the year. It sat on the dealer's lot [ Audi ] for a while, and they dropped the price, and then it disappeared from their web site.

I am curious: Can you tell if it went to auction - and what it brought?

    VIN: WBABN53462PH01173

    Thanks!

    -Ray

    Just very curious....

It was sold on April 30. It shows front end accident damage of a "moderate" nature. 63K miles but a "black mark" on the record.

  • nbjanbja Member Posts: 3

MrShift@Edmunds, I'd like to get a sense for the trade in value on a 2011 X5 35d. It has premium package, cold weather package and technology package. It has 18K miles (of the 30k allowed on the lease). It has 3rd row, navigation, panoramic moonroof, running boards, automatic tailgate, back-up camera, parking sensors, basic sound and basic wheels. No accidents, all maintenance on time, at least once a year oil change (low mileage oil change).
Deep Sea Blue exterior and beige leather interior. I'd appreciate your comments.

@qbrozen, thank you for your comment. I am impressed with the accuracy.

I asked for a quote at Carmax this morning and it is right on the dot, $35k.
My lease residual is $34.7k, so I will likely just return to BMW. I was hoping to have some equity in it due to low mileage. Thanks again.

Hi, Qbrozen..I was wondering if I could get your input?

    I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE/Limited
It has 95,000 miles, and is fully loaded. Leather, navigation, adaptive cruise control, dvd player, parking sensors, running boards, automatic doors, hydraulic lift gate, etc.
It has never been wrecked. I WAS looking to trade, but I am not getting anything on it! The highest they want to give me is $7000. I am not going for that. I currently have it listed on craigslist for $12,000, with that being negotiable.

    Any advice??

Is it FWD or AWD? What region of the country/state are you in? Please don't take offense to this, but you are talking about a 10 year old mini van. Even if the car's exterior has been taken care of like it is a Porsche, wives and kids aren't kind to the car's interior (goldfish, ice cream, cereal...).
